1st (7) (7/4 -40%) Nab Wood |
7/4(-40%) | (7) Nab Wood 7/4, Lightly-raced gelding who got off the mark in 10-runner novice hurdle over C&D (heavy) 33 days ago, hard held. Likely more to come on handicap debut and is not taken lightly. Easy win over C&D last month and he's open to more progress on handicap debut; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (5/2 +44%) Eloi Du Puy |
5/2(+44%) | (9) Eloi Du Puy 5/2, Has improved since switched to handicaps, completing a hat-trick (at up to 20.9f) when seeing off 7 rivals at Carlisle in December. Still in contention when brought down late on Sandown since and must enter calculations. Won three in a row before being brought down at Sandown last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/1 +25%) Step Above |
9/1(+25%) | (5) Step Above 9/1, Winning Irish pointer who made a successful hurdles debut at Ayr last season. Hasn't really progressed over fences this term but returns to smaller obstacles on a workable mark. Visor on first time. Still lightly raced but he was pulled over fences last time and comes with risks attached. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (15/2 +46%) Maimie's Magic |
15/2(+46%) | (10) Maimie's Magic 15/2, Twice a winner (including at this course) last term and wasn't seen to best effect when eighth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Naas (16f, soft) latest. This longer trip should suit and she must be taken seriously. Tongue strap on first time. Has a patchy profile and he's untried beyond 2m4f; risks attached after a short break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (33/1 -65%) Didtheyleaveuoutto |
33/1(-65%) | (2) Didtheyleaveuoutto 33/1, Ended long losing run over hurdles at Cartmel (22.1f) in July but hasn't really threatened since, although he's best excused his latest effort (unsuited by way race developed). On dangerous mark on this drop back in grade but he needs to get back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (80/1 -400%) Dallas Des Pictons |
80/1(-400%) | (3) Dallas Des Pictons 80/1, Useful hurdler/chaser at his best and, having dropped to a career-low mark, caused a surprise when getting back to winning ways in this sphere at Hexham (20.1f) in September. However, he's been well below that level in both starts since. Won at Hexham in September but he struggled in his final two runs in the autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (7/1 +65%) Pavlik |
7/1(+65%) | (8) Pavlik 7/1, Course winner (20.9f) in November 2022 but showed little on first start since in handicap hurdle at Ayr 67 days ago. Bit to prove now. Won here in November 2022 but struggled on his comeback at Ayr in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (9/1 +55%) Grand Voyage |
9/1(+55%) | (6) Grand Voyage 9/1, Been out of form this season and produced a laboured effort over hurdles at Ayr last time. On reduced mark but he's lost his way and was pulled up over hurdles last time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Immortal Fame posted a career-best performance when completing a double at Ascot in December and he must enter calculations. However, he's effectively 17lb higher in the ratings without Cameron Iles' claim so it may be worth taking him on with handicap debutant NAB WOOD. Nicky Richards' gelding was quite taking when landing a novice hurdle over C&D last month and a rating of 114 could underestimate his true ability. Eloi Du Puy has the form to feature too.
Plenty with claims here including ELOI DU PUY, who has really upped his game this season and was still in the firing line when brought down at Sandown last month. He gets the nod. Immortal Fame and Nab Wood rate the principal dangers.
Preference is for NAB WOOD, who was an easy winner of a C&D novice last month and is open to more progress on this handicap debut.

1st (3) (3/1 -9%) Alnilam |
3/1(-9%) | (3) Alnilam 3/1, Fairly useful winner on Flat who offered something to work on when fourth of 16 in novice hurdle at Newbury (16.3f, soft, 14/1) on NH debut 24 days ago. Respected. Dual 1m6f winner on the Flat; promising fourth at Newbury on jumps debut; should improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/4 +33%) Tedtwo |
6/4(+33%) | (2) Tedtwo 6/4, Promising sort who won a Ffos Las novice hurdle for Kerry Lee in December and matched that form when creditable second at Wetherby (16f, heavy) on first start for new yard 22 days ago. Likely more to come yet. Progressive; won Ffos Las maiden in December and good second at Wetherby last time; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/1 +29%) Ballyfort |
10/1(+29%) | (4) Ballyfort 10/1, Showed ability in a couple of runs over timber, latest when sixth of 9 in novice (11/4) over C&D (heavy) 49 days ago. More required to figure here but he can't be ruled out. Tongue strap on first time. Placed in 3 Irish points; fair 5th behind Primoz on hurdles debut; tongue-tie now tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (13/8 -47%) Primoz |
13/8(-47%) | (1) Primoz 13/8, Runner-up both starts in Irish points and looked a good prospect when making a winning hurdling debut at Ayr (16f) in November. Well below that level at Haydock since but remains with potential. Won an Ayr novice on hurdles debut; below-par in Grade 2 next time; chance down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (50/1 -52%) Northern Cardinal |
50/1(-52%) | (10) Northern Cardinal 50/1, Third in a course bumper in April but comfortably held in both attempts in this sphere and will likely be seen in a better light when sent handicapping. Third in a C&D bumper on debut (good); ordinary form over hurdles; looks stable 2nd string. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (150/1 -355%) Boot 'n' Shoe |
150/1(-355%) | (5) Boot 'n' Shoe 150/1, Reached the frame in a couple of AW bumpers in early 2022 but hasn't threatened in either start in this sphere more recently. Fair form in bumpers but only modest efforts over hurdles; more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (200/1 -150%) Dapper Gent |
200/1(-150%) | (7) Dapper Gent 200/1, Modest form at best in bumpers and last of 6 on Hexham hurdle debut in October 2022. Best watched on return to action. Hasn't shown a great deal in bumpers or on hurdles debut; back from a break; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (125/1 -25%) Last Mission |
125/1(-25%) | (9) Last Mission 125/1, Fair Flat winner but unproven beyond 8.5f and finished well held on his completed starts over hurdles. Had wind operation. 1m Flat winner who hasn't shown a great deal over hurdles; not an obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (300/1 -200%) Flying Sandpiper |
300/1(-200%) | (8) Flying Sandpiper 300/1, Down the field in 2 course bumpers 7 months apart and can only be watched now hurdling. Modest efforts in two bumpers; likely to need the experience on hurdles debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Although PRIMOZ was ultimately disappointing when finishing down the field in a Grade 2 at Haydock in late November, it's still early days for Lucinda Russell's gelding. Previous to that effort, he got the better of two subsequent winners at Ayr and, with his stable in flying form, the six-year-old is taken to regain the winning thread. Tedtwo posted a solid second on his stable bow at Wetherby last month and is feared most, ahead of Alnilam and Ballyfort.
This can go to TEDTWO, who pulled clear of the remainder when runner-up on debut for Ben Haslam at Wetherby last month and likely has more to give yet. Primoz and Alnilam look the obvious dangers.
In what is likely to be a well-run race TEDTWO is taken to win his second race over hurdles with Ayr winner Primoz his main threat.

1st (8) (11/4 +54%) Cracking Rhapsody |
11/4(+54%) | (8) Cracking Rhapsody 11/4, Perth bumper winner who went in at the first time of asking over hurdles in 2m Hexham novice in November. Better form in defeat since, chasing home the reopposing Ginger Mail on his C&D handicap debut last month. This unexposed sort probably has more to offer. Progressive sort who was a good second to Ginger Mail over C&D last time; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (15/2 +6%) Jungle Jack |
15/2(+6%) | (1) Jungle Jack 15/2, Point winner and useful handicap hurdler, successful twice again last season. Seemingly amiss when pulled up on chase debut/return at Wetherby in November and interesting now returning to the smaller obstacles on the back of a breathing operation. 5-9 over hurdles (pulled up in a chase last time); chance on first run after wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/3 +5%) Ginger Mail |
10/3(+5%) | (3) Ginger Mail 10/3, Largely consistent type who was back to winning ways when seeing off a couple of today's rivals in a small-field race over C&D last month. 4 lb higher in a deeper affair now so more will be needed to follow up. Two good runs with this headgear this term, last time winning a four-runner C&D handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/2 -88%) Ip Up |
15/2(-88%) | (4) Ip Up 15/2, Fair hurdler/chaser in France who has won 2m handicap hurdles at Fakenham and Newcastle since joining this yard. A further 6 lb rise demands more of her but further progress can't be discounted. Has won two mares' handicaps this term, latest off 6lb lower at Newcastle; each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (8/1 +33%) Slugger |
8/1(+33%) | (7) Slugger 8/1, Made a winning start over hurdles in C&D novice on return in October. Never involved when sixth of 11 on his Musselburgh handicap debut on New Year's Day but that was after a short break and he might be sharper now. Has a refitted hood combined with the tongue tie he wore last time. C&D novice winner; tried in a hood having pulled hard when sixth in a handicap last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (11/4 -10%) Carnfunnock |
11/4(-10%) | (2) Carnfunnock 11/4, Winner of Ayr novice and Naas handicap last season. Creditable efforts in handicaps at Haydock and Navan this season and he's down to mark he can be very competitive from. Respected. Good fifth in 2m3f Listed handicap latest; each-way chance but this sharp 2m a concern. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Ilanz appeared better than ever when landing a 15-runner handicap hurdle at Wincanton on his seasonal bow last month. He warrants respect in his follow-up bid, but an 8lb rise may be enough to thwart him. The downgraded CARNFUNNOCK has some fair form in the book this season and a return to two miles may be enough for the seven-year-old to register a third victory in this discipline. Ginger Mail and Ip Up are sure to have their supporters too.
JUNGLE JACK has dropped back to only 1 lb below the mark he defied at Bangor last spring and might be worth chancing to make a successful return from wind surgery. This is a slight drop in class for Carnfunnock and he's second choice ahead of Cracking Rhapsody, who can turn around last month's C&D form with Ginger Mail on these 4 lb better terms.
In an open race the progressive CRACKING RHAPSODY is taken to reverse last month's C&D form with Ginger Mail on these better terms.

1st (2) (2/1 -33%) Empire Steel |
2/1(-33%) | (2) Empire Steel 2/1, Took this event in 2022 and posted a good second of six in handicap chase at Wetherby (24.2f, heavy) 52 days ago, hindered by error 3 out. Since had a wind op and merits serious consideration eased 1 lb. Won Listed event here last spring and was second in Rowland Meyrick last time; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/2 +25%) Nells Son |
5/2(+25%) | (3) Nells Son 5/2, Scored on his return to chasing at Carlisle (2m) in October and not discredited when fourth of 10 in handicap chase at Doncaster (16.4f, good) 20 days ago. Shortlisted. Still unexposed over fences and he looks interesting back over this stiffer stamina test. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (50/1 -213%) Whoshotthesheriff |
50/1(-213%) | (4) Whoshotthesheriff 50/1, Won a couple of times in 2021/22 but lightly raced since and pulled up after 14 months off in handicap chase at Wetherby (19.4f, heavy) 22 days ago. Has something to prove. Well treated on his old form but was pulled up on his recent comeback at Wetherby. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (5/1 -100%) Richmond Lake |
5/1(-100%) | (1) Richmond Lake 5/1, Quickly got his act together over fences last season and progressed again to complete a four-timer in 9-runner handicap chase at Aintree in December. However, below par at Cheltenham and Doncaster since so needs to get back on track. Won five handicaps since last January but he's been well below form in last two starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (11/4 +50%) Ned Tanner |
11/4(+50%) | (5) Ned Tanner 11/4, Scored twice over fences here last season and arrives in decent nick, third of 7 in handicap chase at Haydock (19.9f, heavy) 48 days ago. Possibilities. Triple course winner but he goes up in grade and needs to find more back at this track. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Nells Son wasn't disgraced when fourth over an extended 2m at Doncaster and he is 1lb lower now so is an interesting contender stepping back up in distance. However, the vote goes to EMPIRE STEEL, who wasn't beaten far into third over 3m2f here before occupying the runner-berth in the Rowland Meyrick. He has had wind surgery since and can repeat his victory of two years ago in this contest. Top-weight Richmond Lake looks the best of the rest.
EMPIRE STEEL found a late error proving costly when runner-up at Wetherby last time out and, now back after a wind op, is taken to repeat his success in the 2022 running. Nells Son and Ned Tanner both arrive in good form and can chase home Sandy Thomson's veteran in that order.
The vote goes to triple course winner EMPIRE STEEL, who chased home a major improver in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby last time.

1st (2) (8/13 +69%) Special Rate |
8/13(+69%) | (2) Special Rate 8/13, Has enjoyed a most productive campaign over hurdles/fences, quickly leaving behind a lesser effort when making it 6 wins from 7 starts this season in handicap at this C&D last month. Scored with a bit in hand on his latest outing so he has to be respected. Up 18lb having won four from five over fences, latest over C&D; conditions suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (5/4 +79%) Imperial Merlin |
5/4(+79%) | (3) Imperial Merlin 5/4, Took well to hurdling last season, winning 3 times including novice handicap at Ayr in April. Sent chasing on his second start of the current campaign, was yet to be asked for effort when stumbling on landing 3 out at this course (22.3f) in December. Open to improvement. Decent novice hurdler last term; plenty of promise on chase debut; tough task here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
SPECIAL RATE is three from four over fences after securing a C&D victory by just over two lengths when denying a hot favourite. Philip Kirby's gelding is 5lb higher now, but he is clearly improving at a rapid rate of knots and can continue his progression. Imperial Merlin was well held on his chase debut here in December but could easily take a step forward, with improvement likely. Giovinco would take all the beating but he won a match at Newcastle on Thursday.
GIOVINCO possibly found the race coming too soon in the Grade 1 Kauto Star on Boxing Day, 18 days on from his good effort behind Stay Away Fay at Sandown, so he can bounce back to winning ways if taking up this engagement. Special Rate looks the biggest threat as he bids for a seventh win of the season, though Imperial Merlin could take a step forward from his chase debut.
The promising Giovinco won with ease in a two-runner race yesterday. If he is absent, this would be a fine chance for SPECIAL RATE.

1st (2) (11/8 +0%) Escapeandevade |
11/8(+0%) | (2) Escapeandevade 11/8, Hurdles winner who bounced back to best in first-time cheekpieces when doubling chase tally at Sedgefield (17f, heavy) 3 weeks ago, seeing things out better than usual. Consistency not his strong suit but claims if replicating that here. Career-low mark when winning at Sedgefield last time; back up 5lb but conditions suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/4 +13%) Dubai Days |
7/4(+13%) | (3) Dubai Days 7/4, C&D winner who suggested he's coming to the boil when fourth of 7 in handicap here (23.4f) last month, despite some indifferent jumping. Versatile as regards trip and he could just be worth chancing to come out on top. C&D winner; fourth over 2m7f here last time and is worth considering despite shorter trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 -50%) Salamanca Bay |
5/1(-50%) | (4) Salamanca Bay 5/1, Wide margin winner of a Thurles maiden hurdle but much too free on belated return/chase debut for new yard at Ayr in December. Subsequent Warwick effort in 2-runner affair was disappointing and he's tough to assess at present. Strong-pulling front-runner who has shown little over fences this term; plenty to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (15/2 +6%) Marshalled |
15/2(+6%) | (1) Marshalled 15/2, Winning hurdler/chaser in Ireland and better than ever when doubling tally for new yard at Cartmel (21f) in August. May of needed first start for 5 months at Wetherby in January and this rates less demanding. Two wins over further last year but too free over 2m3f latest; best form on faster ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Escapeandevade was able to exploit a drop in the ratings when winning at Sedgefield three weeks ago and he merits respect off 5lb higher, but it might pay to side with DUBAI DAYS. Nick Alexander's charge took a step in the right direction when fourth here recently and, from 1lb below his last winning mark, this could be a good opportunity. Marshalled can chase the pair home, ahead of Salamanca Bay.
DUBAI DAYS usually comes good around this time of year and, having displayed encouraging signs over further here 33 days ago, this former C&D winner could be worth chancing to build on that effort here. Escapeandevade, a good winner in first-time cheekpieces (retained here) at Sedgefield 3 weeks ago can also feature with a repeat.
Although put up 5lb for his Sedgefield win, ESCAPEANDEVADE (nap) has plenty going for him with doubts about his rivals.

1st (5) (6/4 +63%) Dedicated Hero |
6/4(+63%) | (5) Dedicated Hero 6/4, Placed in point and solid start under Rules when third at Carlisle 4 months ago. Likely to be on the premises again. Promising third on his rules debut at Carlisle and he's respected back from another break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/2 +78%) Malicash |
9/2(+78%) | (7) Malicash 9/2, Malinas gelding who has offerd something to work on amidst inexperience on his first two starts. May be more clued up this time, so not dismissed. Enters the reckoning on his debut third over C&D but he faded at Ayr last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/1 -25%) Cushendun |
10/1(-25%) | (4) Cushendun 10/1, Telescope gelding who has shaped like a stayer in finishing third on his first two outings. Can make his presence felt if the emphasis is on stamina. Third in his two runs at Ayr late last year but he needs to find some improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (17/2 +66%) Balking |
17/2(+66%) | (1) Balking 17/2, £36,000 3-y-o, Balko gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful French hurdler/chaser Kapking. Makes some appeal on pedigree but may need more time. £36,000 3yo; yard 1-5 in bumpers last season and market should guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (22/1 +12%) Lance Les Des |
22/1(+12%) | (6) Lance Les Des 22/1, Half-brother to numerous winners on Flat, including useful German 6f-1m winner Manipura. Dam 7f/1m winner in Germany. Stamina might be an issue but stable does get the odd bumper winner. Flat-bred 5yo who makes his debut in a bumper and market should be informative. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (25/1 -25%) Authorized Mission |
25/1(-25%) | (12) Authorized Mission 25/1, Tongue tied when down the field at Newcastle on debut 55 days ago. Needs to leave that form well behind if he's to have any chance here. Made a low-key start at Newcastle in December and he needs plenty of progress up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (7/1 -17%) Santapietra |
7/1(-17%) | (11) Santapietra 7/1, €34,000 3-y-o, £40,000 4-y-o, Flemensfirth mare. Dam (h123) 2m hurdle winner, also 17f winner on Flat in France. Wears tongue strap. Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Nov 12). Changed hands for £40,000 after a close second in an Irish point; respected on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (14/1 +58%) Wor Lad |
14/1(+58%) | (13) Wor Lad 14/1, Harbour Law gelding. Dam (h81), placed over hurdles, 13f-16.2f winner on Flat. Yard has uninspiring record in bumpers (3-43) in recent years and others look more likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (66/1 -32%) Disco Annie |
66/1(-32%) | (10) Disco Annie 66/1, Runner-up completed start in points (Nov 2022) but failed to beat a rival at Aintree on Rules debut. Others are more persuasive. Tailed off on her rules debut at Aintree in December and hood is now added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (14) (18/1 -50%) Caledonian Pearl |
18/1(-50%) | (14) Caledonian Pearl 18/1, Nathaniel filly who shaped better than the result at Huntingdon on debut and warrants consideration with more to come. Didn't live up to market expectations at Huntingdon and she needs improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (18/1 -64%) Theonetowatch |
18/1(-64%) | (8) Theonetowatch 18/1, Showed a bit when sixth of 15 in bumper at Ayr (16f, good, 33/1) on NH debut 104 days ago. Could do better, so not without hope. Made some eyecatching late headway at Ayr in November and he's in the mix for in-form yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (3) (40/1 -100%) Bridge Court |
40/1(-100%) | (3) Bridge Court 40/1, €34,000 3-y-o, £62,000 4-y-o, Court Cave gelding. Closely related to useful hurdler/chaser Smoking Gun, and half-brother to 2 winners, including useful hurdler/chaser Hazy Tom, stayed 3m. Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (May 2023). Runner-up in an Irish point but yard is 0-38 in bumpers in recent seasons. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
There was lots to like about YAKALEO's Musselburgh debut, where he finished hot on the heels of the front two despite finding trouble approaching the furlong pole. That form has since been franked and with improvement on the cards, Nicky Richards' charge can strike. Cushendun has produced a similar level of form across both of his career starts and must enter calculations along with the Lucinda Russell pair of Caledonian Pearl and Santapietra.
YAKALEO's third at Musselburgh first time out is the best piece of form on offer and there's reason to think he can do better, so he gets the nod over Caledonian Pearl and Dedicated Hero, who also showed promise on their Rules debut.
Preference is for YAKALEO, who made a promising start with his close third at Musselburgh in December.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance.
