10/3(+39%)
(3) Return Fire 10/3, Ended last season out of sorts but wasn't beaten at all far back hurdling on his recent reappearance and he's of interest back here (winner of both completed starts over fences at this course) off a reduced mark.
2-2 in completed starts at Hexham, including a success in this race two years ago.

15/8(-50%)
(1) Kelce 15/8, Lightly-raced maiden in Ireland and, having understandably looked in need of the run on return/debut for new yard at Fontwell last month, he subsequently went close on recent chase debut in first-time cheekpieces (retained) at Uttoxeter (2½m, good to soft). Big player.
Improved effort at Uttoxeter last week on chase debut; 3lb higher in future; respected.

(8) Gibberwell 12/1, Only fifth over this C&D on final start of last season but record here is otherwise strong (form figures at Hexham read 122245). On the downside, his record when fresh doesn't augur well ahead of this first run for 6 months.
C&D winner in 2023; close second off 4lb higher in this race 12 months ago.

Ange Endormi

(7) Ange Endormi 11/2, Winner of just one of his 14 starts over hurdles but pretty consistent on the whole in that sphere and latest third of 12 over 23.3f in first-time cheekpieces (retained) here last month was a solid effort. 1 lb lower now switched to fences and wouldn't be without hope if his jumping passes the test.
Ran respectably here on latest hurdles start; possibilities if taking well to fences.

(6) Ocean Legacy 7/1, Winless since last May 2023 but performed with credit on a couple of occasions for Dermot McLoughlin earlier this year and wasn't disgraced on debut for this yard at Sedgefield (26.3f, good to soft) 19 days ago. 2 lb lower here and each-way chance if able to build on that.
Ex-Irish; modest third at Sedgefield on debut for new yard; needs to improve.

(4) Gipsy Lee Rose 20/1, Hit the target twice last season, taking a small-field 2½m Newcastle handicap (heavy) on latest outing in March. 3 lb rise by no means prohibitive and moving back up in trip won't be an issue, so she could have a say if fully tuned-up for this.
Absent since Newcastle win in March; placed in this contest for the last two years.

13:02 Hexham Handicap Chase (Class 5) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Only worn down late in the piece when second on his chase debut over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last week, KELCE is expected to build on that excellent effort. The six-year-old is preferred to proven stayer Gipsy Lee Rose, who scored over further at Kelso last November and was a winner at Newcastle latest, though seems to have a preference for softer ground. A respectable fourth on his return at Kelso last month, Return Fire cannot be ruled out either.

KELCE produced a near-fautless round of jumping when narrowly outpointed on his recent chase debut at Uttoxeter, and he will prove hard to beat off the same mark here (due to go up 3 lb for that effort) with improvement likely now moving up in trip. C&D winners Return Fire and Gipsy Lee Rose are taken to fill the places, in that order of preference, while chase-debutant Ange Endormi and Ocean Legacy are also worthy of consideration.

Unexposed chaser KELCE (nap) is 3lb ahead of the assessor and may prove difficult to beat. Return Fire is second choice.

13:37 Hexham Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A revelation on her first start for the Jennie Candlish stable last month when scoring at Worcester, FROMHERETOETERNITY might have a bit more improvement in her and the daughter of Doyen is taken to go in again. A bumper winner at Carlisle last December before competing at a much higher level the last twice, Just Call Me Lucy must be of interest on her hurdles bow, while Reina Blanca is another to monitor for market support.

Likely to develop into a match between JUST CALL ME LUCY and Fromheretoeternity, with marginal preference for the former in receipt of 7 lb in the hope she takes to hurdling at the first attempt.

Mark Walford's JUST CALL ME LUCY showed more than enough in bumpers to believe she can win a novice hurdle of this nature.

14:10 Hexham Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A promising second on his hurdles debut at Wetherby last week, EXPRESS RUN outran his odds and, but for some jumping errors late on, he may well have gone closer. Justin Landy's charge is expected to have improved for that spin and he may have too much for Shadowfax Of Rohan, who performed with credit on his first start for new connections at Perth in August and could go well on his hurdles bow. Chasingouttheblues should relish the step up in trip and is another to bear in mind.

HELSGETAWAY showed plenty to work on when finishing midfield on hurdles debut at Wetherby 23 days ago and with that experience unlikely to be lost on him, he can find the requisite improvement and come out on top. Hurdles-debutant Shadowfax of Rohan and Chasingouttheblues are others to consider, along with the returning Kidman.

Today's longer trip should suit Chasingouttheblues, while the stiffer track ought to help HELSGETAWAY, whose dam was a dour stayer.

14:45 Hexham Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The Churchill Lad pipped Caithness over C&D, with Dream Jet back in third, before finding only one too strong when attempting to follow up at Carlisle. There is more to come from him, but a chance is taken on the fitness of ONE MORE STROKE. Donald McCain's five-year-old was a promising novice hurdler earlier in the year and lost little in defeat on his handicap debut at Newcastle. He has the potential to make up into a much better chaser, certainly one who is capable of handling a mark of 115.

Cases can be made for all the quintet, but the suggestion is CAITHNESS, who went down by a head to the race-fit The Churchill Lad on chasing debut over C&D 5 weeks ago and can turn the tables now 1 lb better off with that rival here. One More Stroke, who was runner-up on both starts in Irish points earlier in his career, rounds off the shortlist making his return/chase bow fitted in a tongue tie.

After his promising second on his chase debut over C&D last time CAITHNESS is taken to reverse the placings with The Churchill Lad.

15:20 Hexham Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Mr Le Philosophe has shown very little since arriving from France, especially on the Flat the last twice, but it could mean he is dangerously well handicapped. Even so, it would take a big leap of faith to select him so NATIONAL QUESTION, who was a surprise second at Newcastle last week and is well-in here, gets the nod. Grifter is better than he showed in that race, while A Day To Dream offered a bit more encouragement at Sedgefield.

FOREST BLAZE has likely been brought along with handicaps in mind and his opening mark is lenient based on bumper form, so he gets the nod over fellow handicap debutant Mr Le Philosophe. National Question should also be considered after a solid showing at Newcastle 8 days ago.

As National Question lacks consistency the choice is GRIFTER who was in good form before a below-par run at Newcastle last week.

15:55 Hexham Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 23f  Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Fainche proved costly to follow at the end of her last campaign and although she will have her supporters once more, she may need the ground a bit more testing. In contrast, BERGENTOWN has handled a sound surface to occupy the runner-up berth on two of his last three outings and might be able to boost a moderate strike-rate. Dequall also arrives on the back of a second, over C&D last month, and should be in contention again.

BERGENTOWN rates the pick of these weights on the back of his very good Sedgefield second so edges the vote in this very open handicap. The returning Fainche could emerge as the main danger now renuited with Brian Hughes, although Dequall, Twoplacesatonetime and Beat The Boum all need factoring in too.

A chance is taken on LADY HAMILTON who was in good form earlier in the year and should improve for last month's reappearance run.
