13:15 Hereford Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

PALACIO caused a minor surprise on his hurdling debut at Chepstow before being pitched into a better race at Cheltenham last month where he finished third after setting a decent pace. Back into calmer waters, Sam Thomas' gelding has been found an ideal opportunity to continue his progression. Starcrossed Lover has to enter calculations following his Windsor success, while Renoir appears best of the remainder.

STARCROSSED LOVER made an impressive start for this yard when easily landing a Windsor novice hurdle a month ago and, with further progress on the cards, he's fancied to edge out Palacio in a race that the pair should dominate.

Granted some controlled aggression from the front, PALACIO may have too much under the bonnet for Starcrossed Lover.

Seems to be building up to something and the switch to fences could unlock more. Tongue tie applied. Placed over hurdles; pointing background and could develop into a superior chaser.
5 2nd (5) (9/2 +44%) Golden De Coeur	4.5 9/2(+44%)	(5) Golden De Coeur 9/2, Fair hurdles form and bettered his inauspicious chase debut when fourth of 9 back from a 7-month break at Windsor (20.2f, good to soft) last month. Eased 3 lb since and this dual point winner is probably capable of better in this sphere. Second chase run was better and potentially well handicapped on his hurdle form.

Step up in trip sure to suit and remains with potential. Second at Sandown and conditions were extremely testing when fourth at Haydock.

Another personal best needed up 8 lb but he's clearly thriving and another bold show may well be on the way. Raised 8lb for winning so well at Ludlow but still commands the utmost respect.

Can make amends here upped to 2½m for the first time. Excellent seconds in both his chases and probably ready for this extra yardage.

THE GOOD DOCTOR has taken well to chasing with a brace of runner-up efforts at Warwick and Newbury last month and a step up in trip might help to get the six-year-old a first victory in this discipline. Moodofthemoment went up 8lb following a return to winning ways at Ludlow in decisive fashion, while Intimate is feared most of the remainder.

Cases can be made for most, but the vote goes to THE GOOD DOCTOR, who has found just one too strong on both starts over the larger obstacles so far but Ben Pauling's 6-y-o can make it third time lucky with this extra distance promising to suit. Moodofthemoment made it 3 wins from his last 4 starts when scoring at Ludlow 4 weeks ago so heads up the opposition, with Intimate taken to edge out Golden de Coeur for third.

Preference is for INTIMATE, who ran a race full of promise at Sandown and his heavy-ground Haydock run can be forgiven.

Went backwards upped in trip at Newbury subsequently but well worth another chance. £350,000 recruit; beaten fav in both his hurdles but he's up to winning a race like this.

Dam (c111/h110), 17f-3m hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to useful hurdler (stayed 23f) Boreham Bill. Runner-up sole start in Irish points and showed clear promise for all that he ran out a very fortunate winner on his Newbury hurdles debut 4 weeks ago. Can improve. Gifted the race at Newbury after the clear leader came down at the final hurdle.

Has had a breathing operation since. Had wind operation since a forgettable hurdle debut; did win a point, albeit a weak one.

14:15 Hereford Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 22f Race Class Flow

King Califet had the race presented to him on a plate when making a winning Rules debut at Newbury and he will need to have improved considerably from that performance to defy a 7lb penalty. With that in mind, BUCKNA is given the benefit of the doubt after disappointing on the same card Emma Lavelle's gelding was successful at. The five-year-old had shown a fair amount of promise at Ffos Las the time before and anything close to that makes him a big player. Johnny Boy is noted too.

BUCKNA was a bit disappointing upped in trip at Newbury last month, but he's well worth another chance based on his hurdling debut promise, a performance supported by the clock. King Califet ran out a very fortunate winner on his hurdling debut at Newbury but shaped clear second best on the day nonetheless and can be expected to improve, with Sole Solution also of firm interest.

It will be disappointing should BUCKNA not live up to his big-money transfer sooner or later. He contested a stronger race last time.

Should strip fitter for last month's Doncaster reappearance and must enter calculations. Won five handicaps; possibly needed his comeback race and that was encouraging.

This slightly longer trip promises to suit and he warrants plenty of respect. Good third in a valuable race on handicap debut; should have more in the locker.
1 4th (1) (14/1 -17%) Stolen Silver	14 14/1(-17%)	(1) Stolen Silver 14/1, Very smart chaser at his best but made early mistakes when pulled up on his Chepstow return and failed to make an impact back over hurdles at Aintree next time. Has been off a couple of months. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Down the weights in new headgear and returning to softer ground looks a big plus.
5 5th (5) (5/1 -25%) Lemoncello	5 5/1(-25%)	(5) Lemoncello 5/1, Useful recruit from France who again gave signs of finding his feet for this stable when second in 4-runner affair over C&D 25 days ago, albeit flattered by proximity to winner. One-paced second in a small field here latest; gives the impression he wants further.

14:48 Hereford Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Having posted a good third in a competitive 14-runner affair on his handicap bow at Haydock in November, KNIGHT OF ALLEN looks ready to strike. A 3lb rise in the ratings looks workable for Jane Williams' gelding and this extra yardage looks likely to suit. Lemoncello lost little in defeat when runner-up to the classy Nemean Lion over C&D last time out and the six-year-old is feared most, ahead of Santos Blue.

KNIGHT OF ALLEN posted his best effort yet when third in a useful handicap at Haydock towards the end of November and, with the still longer trip sure to suit, he's an appealing candidate to notch a second career success. Santos Blue is a likeable type who should be all the better for his reappearance, while Jour d'Evasion is well worth another try at this trip given how he shaped at Wincanton.

A good handicap but the one they all have to beat is KNIGHT OF ALLEN (nap) who held his own in a strong race on handicap debut.

1 1st (1) (7/2 -5%) I Shut That D'or	3.5 7/2(-5%)	(1) I Shut That D'or 7/2, Has been rejuvenated by the switch to front-running tactics, making it 2 wins from his last 3 starts with a bold-jumping display at Plumpton (19.8f, good to soft) 30 days ago. Capable of another bold bid in his current form. Won well at Plumpton and a big leap at the last suggested he had a bit left in the tank.
3 2nd (3) (10/3 +33%) Zestful Hope	3.333333 10/3(+33%)	(3) Zestful Hope 10/3, Fair handicap hurdler/chaser who went agonisingly close to getting off the mark in this sphere at Uttoxeter in November. Ran to similar level when third at Ludlow (20f, soft) last time and he can give another good account. 3-4 at Hereford as opposed to 0-23 at other courses; returns in fairly good form.
7 3rd (7) (10/1 -11%) Jikala	10 10/1(-11%)	(7) Jikala 10/1, French import who was successful in juvenile hurdle here in March 2023. Some encouragement after 20 month-absence when sixth of 8 in handicap at Leicester (22.7f) on chase debut in December, but never a threat back at Leicester (20.1f) 18 days ago. Course winner over hurdles but few positives to take from her first two chases.
4 4th (4) (3/1 +33%) Another Folly	3 3/1(+33%)	(4) Another Folly 3/1, Fair form over hurdles and has matched that level sent chasing this season, bumping into an improver but finishing clear of the rest when second of 9 in handicap at Wincanton (20.2f, soft) in December. Not taken lightly. No match for the winner in his last two races but shouldn't too far away.

Task is now to build on latest effort. Can probably pick up a handicap over fences but does appear to have a blunder in her.
2 6th (2) (9/1 +36%) Tilly Toughnut	9 9/1(+36%)	(2) Tilly Toughnut 9/1, Much improved when making a successful handicap hurdle debut at Exeter (16.7f, heavy) in February last year. However, wasn't able to repeat that effort in her 2 subsequent outings and off 9 months ahead of chase debut. Bred for fences but returns from a lengthy break with something to prove.

Others more persuasive at present. Cold this season and this new headgear combination did nothing for him last time.

15:23 Hereford Handicap Chase (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

I Shut That D'or arrives in fine fettle having regained the winning thread at Plumpton last month and he must enter calculations. However, a 6lb rise in the ratings does demand more of Joe Tizzard's charge and ANOTHER FOLLY is slightly more appealing. The six-year-old has performed with credit on all three starts over fences this season and a reproduction of his latest second at Wincanton might be good enough. Zestful Hope is also noted.

BOBBI'S BEAUTY stepped forward from her return when scoring in good style at Lingfield in December and, after only 4 starts in chases, she can build on that effort to follow up. Another Folly has shown promise over fences this season and is respected, with I Shut That d'Or also in the mix.

The improving BOBBI'S BEAUTY was authoratitive at Lingfield in making it 2-4 over fences and she can deal with an 8lb rise.

Worth a market check. Some promise in novices; this could be his level now sent handicapping in a Class 4.

Not disgraced at Wincanton last time but more is required. 0-8 as a hurdler after going down by 14l in a handicap at Wincanton; others preferred.

Looks the one to beat if he's in the same form. Respectable efforts in both handicaps and Chad Bament takes away 10lb this time.

Latest effort best excused and the drop back to 2m could be in his favour. Dual handicap winner; 2m5f may have stretched him at Ludlow last time.

Up in distance for her return which should suit but a long absence to overcome so might be best to look elsewhere. 9yo mare who is an eight-race maiden and has been absent for 546 days.

Yet to fire for current yard and arrives with something to prove. Pulled up and tailed off in 2m4f/2m5f handicaps for this yard.

Hasn't kicked on from that positive start so far this season, including on debut for this yard at Wincanton a month ago. Has a bit to prove. Has shown ability but has offered little in his two handicaps.

DOUBLE DRAGON built on his fourth-placed handicap debut effort at Wincanton when finishing second at that same course on Boxing Day. A 2lb higher mark may prove inconsequential for Anthony Honeyball's five-year-old, with Chad Bament's 10lb claim in the plate a big positive. The biggest threat is last-time-out winner Chief Sunday, while Thankyourluckystar could go well from the front dropping in trip.

DOUBLE DRAGON returned in top form when second in a 15-runner contest at Wincanton in December and, with a conditional taking off a useful 10 lb, he's worth a chance to go one better at the possible expense of Chief Sunday, who was successful at Market Rasen last time. Thankyourluckystar should benefit from the drop back in trip, so he's another to consider.
