Unplugged |
(1) (0.91/1 +39%)0.91/1(+39%) | (1) Unplugged 0.91/1, Looked unlucky not to make a successful return in May but gained compensation in straightforward fashion in an amateur jockeys' handicap at Haydock (11.6f) in June. Defied a 3 lb rise with ease when following up back at Pontefract since and he's fancied to be in the shake-up again. Has won under Serena Brotherton the last twice; unproven on slow ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hot Team |
(5) (4/1 -60%)4/1(-60%) | (5) Hot Team 4/1, Best effort of the season turned out quickly when pulling clear with the eased-down Temper Trap (who has won again since) at Hamilton (9.2f, soft) 6 days ago. Takes his racing well, so holds major claims of doubling his tally for the season from the same mark. Some good form this summer (including C&D) and Becky Smith is a positive booking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lenny's Spirit |
(3) (4.5/1 +0%)4.5/1(+0%) | (3) Lenny's Spirit 4.5/1, In good form this year, resuming winning ways under an enterprising ride when making it 2-2 at Newbury (10f, good to soft) just over 2 weeks ago. Nudged up another 2 lb and with no other confirmed front runner, he could get an easy time of things up top. Ridden by Sophie Smith on last three starts, with two wins; strong contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Billy Roberts |
(4) (4.5/1 +31%)4.5/1(+31%) | (4) Billy Roberts 4.5/1, Has slipped in the weights and turned in his best effort since his reappearance when runner-up at this C&D (soft) just under 3 weeks ago. Won this corresponding event 12 months ago and back in headgear for the first time for nearly 3 years, this 10-y-o would be folly to discount. Won this last year under Stephanie Jardeback and good second over C&D three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Still Standing |
(2) (50/1 -100%)50/1(-100%) | (2) Still Standing 50/1, Hasn't threatened to win a race in some time and ran poorly with the blinkers and tongue strap retained for his first run over hurdles since leaving William Durkan in Ireland. Back on the level and he looks an easy swerve. Form went the wrong way in Ireland and he's struggled to threaten for this yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Unplugged seems sure to prove popular as he looks for a hat-trick after wins here and at Pontefract. That said, he has another 4lb from the handicapper now and his form on a softer surface suggests this going may not see him at his best. HOT TEAM ran on well over a furlong shorter at Hamilton last time, leaving him 1lb well in here, and he may go close. Lenny's Spirit and Billy Roberts complete the shortlist.
HOT TEAM pulled clear with one at the top of his game (who has won again since) at Hamilton last Saturday and Patrick Morris' 7-y-o is fancied to go one better provided he can cope with this quick turnaround. Unplugged arrives on the back of a couple of wins in similar events in recent months, so he looks the obvious danger, while 10-y-o Billy Roberts can fill out third spot.
Having won under Serena Brotherton the last twice, UNPLUGGED is taken to land the hat-trick. Lenny's Spirit is a danger.

Whiskey Pete |
(8) (0.8/1 +36%)0.8/1(+36%) | (8) Whiskey Pete 0.8/1, 180,000 gns breeze-up purchase who shaped well second of 7 on 7f Newmarket debut (good) 13 days ago. Will set a high standard for the rest to aim at if making the anticipated improvement. Staying-on second over 7f at Newmarket on recent debut and he holds leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Age Of Time |
(1) (4.5/1 -80%)4.5/1(-80%) | (1) Age Of Time 4.5/1, €800,000 breeze-up buy in the spring. Dubawi colt. Dam, 7f winner who should have stayed 1¼m, half-sister to smart winner up to 11.6f English King. Very interesting newcomer. Cost 800,000euros at the breeze-ups and has to be respected for top team on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mannerism |
(4) (4.5/1 +0%)4.5/1(+0%) | (4) Mannerism 4.5/1, 11/1, third of 9 in 7f course novice (soft) on debut 20 days ago, nearest finish. Looks a sure-fire improver for his top 2-y-o stable. Close third over 7f here on last month's debut and the step up to 1m looks the right move. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mafnood |
(3) (7.5/1 -25%)7.5/1(-25%) | (3) Mafnood 7.5/1, Fair form when reaching the frame in novices at Newbury (6.5f, firm) and Salisbury (7f, soft) in recent weeks. Retains potential. Improvement needed but he's shaped as though the extra furlong will help; has a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Touch The Moon |
(6) (12/1 +40%)12/1(+40%) | (6) Touch The Moon 12/1, 33/1, sixth of 11 in novice at this course (7f, firm) on debut 58 days ago, making headway once he got the hang of things. Likely to do better. Soundly beaten on debut but this 425,000euros yearling could improve plenty for that run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Victory Shout |
(7) (22/1 +12%)22/1(+12%) | (7) Victory Shout 22/1, 7/1, green when fifth of 7 in novice at this course (7f, good to firm) on debut 63 days ago. Should be more clued up now and can be expected to improve. 350,000euros yearling but well beaten on debut here in June; hard to fancy on back of that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ramaah |
(5) (66/1 -32%)66/1(-32%) | (5) Ramaah 66/1, 65,000 gns Waldgeist colt. Closely related to smart winner up to 1¼m Beautiful Morning and useful 1¼m winner La Gloire and half-brother to useful 7f winner Classic. Probably best watched on debut. Has an attractive pedigree but makes debut in a warm race and he'll need to be useful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Balmanzor |
(2) (125/1 +17%)125/1(+17%) | (2) Balmanzor 125/1, 66/1, last of 12 in novice at Pontefract (6f, good) on debut 21 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Likely outsider. 66-1, tailed off on debut at Pontefract (6f, good to soft). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Whiskey Pete was beaten less than a length on his Newmarket debut and looked the sort to improve for the experience, but Charlie Appleby trained the winner that day and is represented here by AGE OF TIME. An 800,000-euro son of Dubawi and related to plenty of winners, he might well be up to making a winning debut under James Doyle. Mannerism and Mafnood have shown promise and are also entitled to have some say in the finish here.
WHISKEY PETE has to be the call after his very promising Newmarket debut, although a strong market move for expensive Godolphin breeze-up recruit Age of Time would put a slightly different slant on things. Karl Burke's Mannerism may prove best of the remainder.
Newmarket runner-up Whiskey Pete can play a leading role but Godolphin's 800,000euros breeze-up buy AGE OF TIME earns the vote.

Couplet |
(5) (1.2/1 +20%)1.2/1(+20%) | (5) Couplet 1.2/1, Made a winning start in quite taking fashion in 13-runner C&D maiden last September, staying on strongly. Improved on that form when runner-up under a penalty at Doncaster 10 months later and can go on improving on handicap debut. A win and a second from her two starts; this handicap newcomer is promising and unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jumbeau |
(2) (5/1 +0%)5/1(+0%) | (2) Jumbeau 5/1, Fairly useful sort who has acquitted herself well all 4 starts this term, latest when third of 11 in handicap at Newmarket (6f, good) 21 days ago. Merits consideration. Second/third on last three starts; hasn't threatened the winner but might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Quandary |
(6) (5.5/1 -38%)5.5/1(-38%) | (6) Quandary 5.5/1, Proved a different proposition on firmer ground than previously when opening her account in 9-runner novice event (9/1) at Pontefract (5f, good) in May, pushed out. That form has proven solid and there's potentially more to come from her now venturing into handicaps after a break. Won at Pontefract on third start and she has potential off her opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Coco Jamboo |
(3) (6.5/1 +28%)6.5/1(+28%) | (3) Coco Jamboo 6.5/1, Fairly useful sort who has been holding her form well this year, just not seen to best advantage the way the race developed when third of 8 at Newmarket (6f) 42 days ago. Likely to remain competitive. In the first three on all four starts this year but work to do with Jumbeau on June clash. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
First Of May |
(4) (8/1 -14%)8/1(-14%) | (4) First Of May 8/1, Showed improved form to get off the mark switched to all-weather at Newcastle in December and created a good impression when following up on Wolverhampton handicap debut 5 months later. Disappointed back on turf at Chester last time, though. Two AW wins prior to Chester sixth; something to prove on turf but retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Secret Mistral |
(8) (16/1 -33%)16/1(-33%) | (8) Secret Mistral 16/1, C&D winner who looked a hard ride when fifth of 8 in handicap at Windsor (5.1f, good to firm) 39 days ago, hanging left throughout. Others more persuasive. C&D winner who wasn't beaten far last time, but may again be vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Noor Bano |
(1) (25/1 -79%)25/1(-79%) | (1) Noor Bano 25/1, Off the mark in 14-runner maiden at Meydan (7f, good) in February. Shaped as if needing the run on Newmarket handicap debut 5 months on, though the handicapper looks to have taken little chance with her mark on her Dubai form. Meydan maiden winner but merely mid-division on return at Newmarket three weeks ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
First Of May has won two of her four starts, both on the all-weather, and wasn't disgraced last time out when sixth at Chester. She could bounce back to her best but might have to settle for second if COUPLET improves for her first start of the season. The daughter of Zoustar won a maiden here last year and she was clear of the third when beaten at Doncaster on her return, which makes a mark of 79 look generous. Novice winner Quandary could be the one to follow them home.
COUPLET built on her 2-y-o debut win when runner-up at Doncaster last month and appeals as the sort to go on improving for her excellent yard, so she's selected to make a successful start in handicaps from an opening mark that could seriously underestimate her. Jumbeau is proving consistent and ought to be on the premises again, with Quandary another handicap debutante to note.
Pontefract winner QUANDARY (nap) has the potential to be better than her opening mark and is taken to follow up. Couplet is feared.

Alshinfarah |
(1) (2.5/1 -25%)2.5/1(-25%) | (1) Alshinfarah 2.5/1, Half-sister to 2 winners, notably smart French 1¼m-12.5f winner Raabihah, and made the perfect start when landing a Doncaster maiden despite a slow start. Open to progress, so likely to be on the premises. Won on debut at Doncaster; now carries a penalty against males but key player nevertheless. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Remaadd |
(8) (3/1 +33%)3/1(+33%) | (8) Remaadd 3/1, Foaled March 6. Gleneagles colt. Half-brother to several winners, including smart 1¼m-1½m winner Gaassee and useful 1¼m-1½m winner Mandobi. Makes plenty of appeal on paper. Connections have done well with the family and he could play a leading role on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wootton's Jewel |
(9) (5/1 +23%)5/1(+23%) | (9) Wootton's Jewel 5/1, 55,000 gns yearling, Wootton Bassett colt. Signs of ability when third at Chester 42 days ago and, with the potential for better, he's not easily ruled out. Third at Chester on debut and open to improvement for in-form Newmarket trainer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grand Karat |
(3) (5.5/1 -38%)5.5/1(-38%) | (3) Grand Karat 5.5/1, Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart 1m-10.2f winner Sinjaari, and made a positive start when fifth at Newbury first time out. Open to improvement and likely to feature. Fifth on debut at Newbury three weeks ago and open to improvement; on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
It's Not Risky |
(4) (9/1 +36%)9/1(+36%) | (4) It's Not Risky 9/1, Foaled April 13. £60,000 yearling, Showcasing colt. Half-brother to winner up to 2¼m Flint Hill and winner abroad by Kyllachy. Dam, 1¾m winner, half-sister to smart winner up to 1m Above N Beyond. Not ruled out. £60,000 yearling; half-brother to Flint Hill (RPR 79); betting may be informative on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dufresne |
(11) (12/1 +25%)12/1(+25%) | (11) Dufresne 12/1, Offered plenty to work on when fifth of 7 in maiden at Chester (7f, good) on debut 13 days ago, running on. Not dismissed for all that he has plenty to find. Stable in fine form but a sizeable step forward is needed on this second start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Magico |
(5) (14/1 +0%)14/1(+0%) | (5) Magico 14/1, Foaled May 10. €60,000 yearling, Le Havre colt. Half-brother to winner up to 1m Augustus Caesar and 1½m winner Ward Castle. Dam, 7f winner, half-sister to smart 2-y-o 6f/7f winner Van Der Decken. Warrants a market check. Trainer 3-10 with 2yos here in last five seasons and he's an interesting newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Papagei |
(6) (16/1 -88%)16/1(-88%) | (6) Papagei 16/1, Foaled April 19. Masar colt. Closely related to useful 7f/1m winner Silent Film and half-brother to smart 1m winner Embesto and 9f winner Drinks At Vista. Notable pedigree. James Doyle rides on debut and he's one to watch in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cestrian Spirit |

Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful 1½m-16.2f winner Gavlar and winner abroad by Anjaal. One to note if the market speaks in his favour. £48,000 yearling; half-brother to three winners; not ruled out on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Parson's Meadow |
(7) (150/1 -50%)150/1(-50%) | (7) Parson's Meadow 150/1, Only minor promise on debut and failed to beat a rival over C&D last time, so others are more persuasive. Carlisle debut wasn't without promise but he was tailed off over this C&D next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bargain Basement |
(10) (200/1 -100%)200/1(-100%) | (10) Bargain Basement 200/1, Yet to show any ability, so set for another struggle. Down the field on all four starts (5f/6f); goes up in trip in first-time headgear. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Alshinfarah is an obvious starting point and is shortlisted after she comfortably landed a fillies maiden at Doncaster last month. However, that form has a taken a few subsequent knocks and she might be worth taking on now that she faces the opposite sex for the first time. CESTRIAN SPIRIT appeals on pedigree and, given his yard has maintained a healthy strike-rate with their juveniles this season, he shades preference. Remaadd and Wootton's Jewel complete the shortlist.
This has the makings of a strong contest but, based on pedigree/connections, it might be worth taking a chance that REMAADD has enough ability to make a successful start at the likely expense of Doncaster winner Alshinfarah. Grand Karat offered plenty of encouragement at Newbury first time out, so he's another one likely to be involved.
This could go to the newcomer REMAADD, who is from a family William Haggas has done well with. Alshinfarah is second choice.

Dam, French 11.5f winner, half-sister to smart winner up to 11.6f English King and to dam of Irish Oaks winner Chicquita. One to note. Trainer does very well with 2yos here; firmly in calculations on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beveragino |
(1) (3.5/1 -100%)3.5/1(-100%) | (1) Beveragino 3.5/1, Soldier's Call filly who showed fair form when placed first 2 starts, including over C&D. Seemed unsuited by the 1f shorter trip at Windsor last time. Player. Beaten favourite the last twice but has the best form in the field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Milliterries |
(3) (5.5/1 +50%)5.5/1(+50%) | (3) Milliterries 5.5/1, Foaled April 21. Territories filly. Half-sister to several winners, including 1½m winner Hepplewhite and 1¼m-1½m winner Syncopate. Dam 1¼m winner. Likely to improve for this debut but Tom Marquand has eyecatching 25% strike-rate for yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Surging Tide |
(8) (7/1 -27%)7/1(-27%) | (8) Surging Tide 7/1, Foaled February 8. 28,000 gns yearling, Sea The Moon filly. Half-sister to useful 2-y-o 7f/1m winner King's Harlequin. Dam 5f winner. Likely type. Half-sister to Group 3 2yo winner; from top northern yard and could go well on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sovereign Queen |
(7) (7/1 -8%)7/1(-8%) | (7) Sovereign Queen 7/1, Foaled February 10. 18,000 gns yearling, €40,000 2-y-o, Ten Sovereigns filly. Half-sister to 3 winners, including useful 6f-7f winner Marshal Dan and 6f winner Electric Mistress. Dam, 2-y-o 6f winner, half-sister to very smart winner up to 6f Glass Slippers. There's enough in her pedigree to warrant a market check on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cheshire Dancer |
(6) (7.5/1 -7%)7.5/1(-7%) | (6) Cheshire Dancer 7.5/1, Foaled April 19. €36,000 yearling, Phoenix of Spain filly. Half-sister to several winners, including useful winner up to 6f Val Nanda, 2-y-o 6f winner Lollipop Girl. Dam 5f winner. There's potential in her pedigree and the betting may be informative on debut. |

Hopelessly green when ninth of 11 in maiden at Newmarket (7f, good to soft, 40/1) on debut 20 days ago. Market check advised on second start but she was well beaten at 40-1 on last month's debut. |

(10) (100/1 -52%)100/1(-52%) | (10) Timely Chance 100/1, Well held both starts. Big odds on both starts (6f/7f) and hasn't shown enough to suggest she'll be winning this. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BEVERAGINO sets a reasonable standard with an official rating of 76 and, given that she has previous C&D experience, Michael Bell's filly can put her knowledge to good use back over this intermediate trip. Kinetic is a likely improver now upped to 7f and she is dangerous to underestimate. Cheshire Dancer and Sovereign Queen are a couple of noteworthy newcomers to monitor in the betting.
BEVERAGINO will be suited by the return to this trip and can put her experience to good use. Sphinx of Naxos and Surging Tide make most appeal of the newcomers before market clues.
Top of the list is the newcomer SPHINX OF NAXOS for the in-form Ralph Beckett, who has a fine strike-rate here with 2yos.

Followed up in ready fashion on slower ground at Ripon (6f, good to soft) and further progress likely back up in trip for this handicap bow. Something to spare the last twice and has the potential to be better than her opening mark. |

Diamond Vega |
(1) (2/1 +11%)2/1(+11%) | (1) Diamond Vega 2/1, Winner of a heavy-ground 6f novice here at 2 yrs and duly left-key reappearance (pulled hard) behind when landing a Catterick handicap (good) upped to 7f last month. 6 lb rise fair and she probably has more to offer. Unexposed 3yo who did it nicely at Catterick and may well take a 6lb rise in her stride. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tellus |
(3) (6.5/1 +19%)6.5/1(+19%) | (3) Tellus 6.5/1, Made the frame all 4 starts as a 2-y-o and improved when landing 7f novice events at Catterick and Chelmsford during the spring. However, form has dipped badly the last twice and she now has a bit to prove. Kicked off 3yo campaign with two wins but well beaten the last twice. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
UNEQUAL LOVE has won her last couple of starts in striking fashion and is hard to oppose in her bid for a third victory within the space of just over a month. It's notable that her dam was placed over 1m in a Listed race at this course and all the signs are positive for this progressive filly. Catterick winner Diamond Vega is respected but a 6lb higher mark demands more of her, while Tellus and Jill Rose may have to settle for supporting roles.
UNEQUAL LOVE and Diamond Vega both possess appealing profiles, particularly the former who looks a useful prospect judged on her stylish victories at Leicester and Ripon. The Dutch Art filly is likely to raise her game another notch now moving back up in trip and pitched into a handicap off what could turn out to be a very fair mark. Jill Rose should give a good account but, as an exposed 7-y-o, she may struggle to keep tabs on the aforementioned, progressive 3-y-os.
Preference is for DIAMOND VEGA, who did it nicely at Catterick last month on her second handicap start.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
