1st (3) (4/6 +33%) Golden Maverick |
4/6(+33%) | (3) Golden Maverick 4/6, Fairly useful 5-time winner on the Flat (stays 14.5f) for Ian Williams. New connections acquired him for 100,000 gns in the autumn and promise amidst inexperience in making frame both starts over hurdles, latterly when third in a Ludlow maiden (15.7f) 4 weeks ago. Big shout with more to come. Useful Flat form and strong contender on what he's shown in two hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (12/1 +40%) Ma Belle Artiste |
12/1(+40%) | (5) Ma Belle Artiste 12/1, Useful 1m winner on Flat for Joseph O'Brien. Changed hands for 45,000 gns in October but not seen things out in a couple of spins in juvenile/mares' maiden hurdles in recent weeks. Exploits on the level offer hope she can do better in this sphere at some stage. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Dual Flat winner but beaten 28l (soft) and 34l (heavy) in her two hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (12/1 -100%) Aire Spray |
12/1(-100%) | (1) Aire Spray 12/1, Fair form when runner-up on second of 2 starts in bumpers. Has the size for jumping but took a heavy fall 3 out just as the race was beginning to unfold on hurdles bow at Wetherby (2m, heavy) 3 weeks ago. Hopefully none the worse and this may reveal more. Went close in a bumper and was running well when falling three out on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (28/1 -12%) Lord Of All Saints |
28/1(-12%) | (4) Lord Of All Saints 28/1, Didn't achieve a great deal when fourth on hurdles debut at Taunton (16.5f) in December. Overjumped and fell third back at that venue 9 days ago and low-grade handicaps promise to be more his bag. Showed ability in his first run but looks vulnerable in a race of this nature. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/4 -50%) Glorious Lion |
9/4(-50%) | (2) Glorious Lion 9/4, Fair maiden on the Flat for James Ferguson and definite encouragement to glean from hurdles exploits for new yard, early enthusiasm catching him out late on when second of 6 in juvenile maiden at Kelso (16.2f, soft) 10 days ago. Live player here. Beaten fav last time but even a repeat of that form should see him right in the mix. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GOLDEN MAVERICK has proven costly to follow since turning his attentions to the jumps. This does not look the strongest of contests, though, and any further improvement might suffice. Glorious Lion posted another solid effort when occupying the runner-up spot at Kelso 10 days ago and he is the main danger, while Aire Spray, who showed promise in a couple of bumpers before falling on his hurdling bow last time out, might prove to be best of the remainder.
A fairly useful, 5-time winner on the Flat, GOLDEN MAVERICK has twice shaped with promise over hurdles for his new yard, seemingly finishing with something left when third at Ludlow 4 weeks ago. Open to further improvement and with conditions holding no fears, he can come out on top. Glorious Lion, who is also getting the hang of things over hurdles, rates the lead threat.
Both GOLDEN MAVERICK and Glorious Lion are likely to be seen to better effect on drier ground but they can still dominate this.

1st (2) (6/5 -9%) Prairie Wolf |
6/5(-9%) | (2) Prairie Wolf 6/5, Largely progressive over hurdles and improved for switch to chasing, off the mark at second attempt at Doncaster (20.5f) in December. Solid fourth at Cheltenham subsequently (strong form) and capitalised on the drop in grade at Catterick since. Remains of strong interest at this level. Two wins from his last three starts; unexposed over fences and could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (2/1 +43%) Heros |
2/1(+43%) | (4) Heros 2/1, Started his chase career with a brace of 18f wins at Taunton and back to his best when a close second at Wetherby (19.4f, heavy) 20 days ago. Player. Back on song when going close at Wetherby three weeks ago and can make another bold bid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 -43%) Glory And Honour |
5/1(-43%) | (1) Glory And Honour 5/1, Done well over fences since joining this yard and resumed winning ways in 9-runner handicap chase at Doncaster (19.1f, good to soft) before Christmas. Good second at Musselburgh since and should give another decent account. First or second on all seven starts for this yard; admirably consistent and respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (8/1 -129%) Carcaci Castle |
8/1(-129%) | (3) Carcaci Castle 8/1, Bumper/dual hurdle winner. Disappointed in handicap hurdles on his first 2 outings this winter but got his career back on track with first-time cheekpieces added to his tongue tie when ½-length second of 5 on chase debut at Carlisle (2m, soft). Went backwards at Ayr next time, however. Underwhelming at Ayr last time but promising second on chase debut at Carlisle previously. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
There aren't many as consistent as Glory And Honour, who hasn't finished outside of the first two home in his last seven chase starts. Raised 2lb in the handicap for his latest second at Musselburgh last month, he is unlikely to be far away, but PRAIRIE WOLF might prove to be too strong. Sue Smith's charge recorded a comfortable victory at Catterick last month, having been far from disgraced in a warm Cheltenham contest previously, and a subsequent 7lb hike does not look insurmountable. Heros can chase the pair home.
PRAIRIE WOLF is a chaser who is very much on the upgrade and has sound claims of adding another win to his tally kept to this level. Heros got back on track when just edged out at Wetherby so is feared most.
Having won in good style at Catterick last time, the unexposed chaser PRAIRIE WOLF can make it three wins from his last four starts.

1st (1) (2/1 +6%) Ascending Lark |
2/1(+6%) | (1) Ascending Lark 2/1, Encouraging start to her career when runner-up in a Cork bumper last January. No progress in 2 subsequent starts for previous connections but it'll be interesting to see how she shapes up in the betting now switched to hurdles for her new yard. Has undergone a wind op. Placed in Irish bumpers and new trainer does very well with recruits from other yards. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (2/1 +0%) Dameofthecotswolds |
2/1(+0%) | (8) Dameofthecotswolds 2/1, Bumper winner who looked in need of the experience when runner-up in junior event at Ludlow on her hurdles bow in December. Rather disappointing next 2 starts but seemingly back on track when third in C&D Victor Ludorum and big chance if able to reproduce that level of form. Receives valuable 10lb allowance from the older mares and she's a strong candidate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (100/1 -203%) Wrappedinrubies |
100/1(-203%) | (7) Wrappedinrubies 100/1, Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Dec 10). Little immediate encouragement when well beaten on Rules/bumper debut at Wetherby (2m) in January and looked one for later on/longer trips when midfield on hurdles debut at Bangor (16.6f) 3 weeks ago. Point runner-up but well beaten on first two rules starts (bumper/maiden hurdle). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (20/1 -186%) Barrons Land |
20/1(-186%) | (2) Barrons Land 20/1, Runner-up four times in Irish points and filled the same position in a Doncaster bumper on her Rules debut in January. Showed aptitude for hurdling when fourth in mares' maiden at Musselburgh (19.8f) 31 days ago and this drop back in trip may help. Runner-up in 4 points & a bumper; soundly beaten on sole hurdle run but retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/3 +33%) Phone Home |
10/3(+33%) | (4) Phone Home 10/3, Telescope filly who again ran to a fair level when second of 13 in mares' maiden at Catterick (15.7f) in January. Not in same form when fourth at Ludlow (21.2f, soft) 6 weeks ago but not taken lightly now back down in trip. 0-6 but runner-up on two of her last four starts and best form reads well in this context. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (33/1 -136%) Santapietra |
33/1(-136%) | (6) Santapietra 33/1, £40,000 4-y-o, Flemensfirth mare. Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Nov 12) but could never get on terms when seventh of 12 in Kelso bumper on Rules bow 33 days ago. In good hands and better showing likely now hurdling. Point runner-up who was soundly beaten on bumper debut but it wasn't without promise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (14/1 -100%) Lady Pretender |
14/1(-100%) | (3) Lady Pretender 14/1, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser in France. Changed hands for €130,000/had wind operation, probably needed the run when fifth of 9 in Hereford maiden (16.2f) 24 days ago and likely her yard will find the key to her. Soundly beaten fifth on British debut but could improve for it; showed ability in France. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (17/2 +47%) Poppy Rose |
17/2(+47%) | (5) Poppy Rose 17/2, Irish raider who returned in good heart late last year, finishing good second in 17-runner Naas handicap (2m, soft) in December. Disappointed next time and again not at her best when 10 lengths sixth of 7 in Ayr mares' handicap (21.4f) 11 days ago. Another dropping back in trip. Placed a few times but below best the last twice and now 0-13. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The vote goes to LADY PRETENDER, who was prominent in the betting ahead of her stable/UK debut last month. Venetia Williams' mare struggled to make an impact that day, but she can improve for that experience on her second run following wind surgery. Dameofthecotswolds marks highly for consistency and she ought to go well in receipt of weight from her elders, while Barrons Land weakened over 2m4f at Musselburgh last time out and could improve for the drop in trip.
DAMEOFTHECOTSWOLDS returned to form when third behind subsequent Triumph Hurdle-third Salver in the Victor Ludorum over C&D 32 days ago and a repeat of that could well be enough to see her score here in receipt of weight all round. Ascending Lark, now hurdling/following a wind op is worth a look on debut for Harry Derham, with Phone Home another who is fancied to be in the mix.
This could be a good opportunity for the hurdling newcomer ASCENDING LARK to make a winning start for Harry Derham.

1st (2) (5/2 -11%) Jubilee Express |
5/2(-11%) | (2) Jubilee Express 5/2, Fairly useful winner at 20f over hurdles. Similar form over fences this season, good second at Lingfield 5 weeks ago, clear of rest and held only late on. Respected. 2nd when upped to 3m5f at Lingfield and this unexposed 7yo is open to further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/1 -20%) Gold Emery |
9/1(-20%) | (6) Gold Emery 9/1, Point/hurdles winner who got better with each run over fences last season and came on for return when just failing here (25.6f). Disappointed at Bangor since but worth another chance at this trip. Pulled up after jumping errors at Bangor; could have a part to play if minimising blunders. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/2 +68%) Conkwell Legend |
9/2(+68%) | (1) Conkwell Legend 9/2, Useful winning handicap hurdler who was in the process of leaving his previous chasing efforts behind when falling 3 out at Exeter. Disappointed back over hurdles at Chepstow since, however, and others more solid. Untested at trip; below par latest but that may have come too soon after previous good run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/2 +0%) O'connell |
7/2(+0%) | (4) O'connell 7/2, Winning Irish pointer who got off the mark in handicap chase at Market Rasen. Decent efforts in defeat since, shaping like the best horse at the weights when second at Carlisle 2 weeks ago. That was a third successive defeat when trading odds on in-running, however, and return to further not ideal. Running consistently well this season and could be bang there if seeing out the trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) (5/1 -11%) Ali Star Bert |
5/1(-11%) | (8) Ali Star Bert 5/1, Has been better than ever of late, making it 3 wins from his last 4 starts at Wetherby 3 weeks ago, well on top at the finish. Up in class now but go well again. Thriving 8yo who has won three of his last four and has to be firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (16/1 -14%) Atakan |
16/1(-14%) | (5) Atakan 16/1, Won 2 of his 3 starts switched to fences last season for Joe Tizzard. Shaped as if better for the run after 14 months off when fourth of 7 in handicap chase at Plumpton (25.7f, soft) 23 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Others more persuasive. 3m4f win in January 2023; then absent until fair comeback run last month; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (17/2 -70%) Robyndzone |
17/2(-70%) | (3) Robyndzone 17/2, Enhanced good strike rate over fences when scoring in good style over C&D (heavy) at the end of December. Not in same form at Exeter since but type to bounce back. Won over C&D in December and he's much better than he showed at Exeter subsequently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (28/1 -56%) Hold The Note |
28/1(-56%) | (7) Hold The Note 28/1, Won twice from out of the blue last season but ran a moody race after 10 months off at Carlisle 2 weeks ago and others make more appeal. Won off this mark at Carlisle last March but good performances in the minority nowadays. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Having scored at Southwell and Wetherby last month, Ali Star Bert warrants respect in his bid for a hat-trick. A 3lb rise for his latest victory looks fair, but it could be worth taking the eight-year-old on now he's upped into class 3 company. JUBILEE EXPRESS ticks plenty of the right boxes having posted a respectable second at Lingfield latest and Sam Thomas' inmate may be able to shake off a 5lb higher mark. O'Connell has the form to be involved too.
ALI STAR BERT probably did well under the circumstances when making it 3 wins from his last 4 starts at Wetherby 3 weeks ago so shades the vote over the quirky O'Connell, who is capable of winning off his current mark but needs to be played as late as possible. Jubilee Express is another to consider.
The progressive 8yo ALI STAR BERT could prove well suited by this step up in trip, and he earns the vote ahead of Jubilee Express.

1st (7) (5/2 +50%) Yealand |
5/2(+50%) | (7) Yealand 5/2, Opened his account on handicap debut at Newcastle (20.3f) in January and beaten only by a fellow thriving sort back there next time. Shaped as if still in good form at Carlisle 13 days ago and should remain competitive. Solid start in handicaps and returning to a less demanding couse could be preferable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (15/8 -7%) Kilta |
15/8(-7%) | (6) Kilta 15/8, Showed much improved form to get off the mark in 5-runner handicap at Southwell (15.8f, heavy) 16 days ago, quickening clear after the last and scoring with plenty in hand. Will go on improving with longer trip likely to suit. Barely came off the bridle on handicap debut; up 8lb but could still be on a handy mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/2 +36%) Glen Cannel |
9/2(+36%) | (4) Glen Cannel 9/2, Winner of a Market Rasen maiden and Ayr novice on his first 2 starts in this sphere. Ran poorly when pulled up on handicap debut at Newbury last March and probably needed the run when a well-held third at Carlisle on recent return. Dual winner; ran as though the race was needed last time and he's dropped in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (33/1 -106%) Sean Og |
33/1(-106%) | (8) Sean Og 33/1, Fair maiden at best who was well held after 4 months off at Musselburgh (23.8f, soft) 31 days ago. Back down in trip. Has work to do. 0-14; doesn't look on a great mark and probably wants drier ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (18/1 -157%) Gaelik Coast |
18/1(-157%) | (2) Gaelik Coast 18/1, 10-y-o who shaped better than the distance beaten suggests when sixth of 7 in a C&D handicap (heavy) 81 days ago, weakening from 2 out. Not dismissed down in grade. Well handicapped on some of his form; decent effort before struggling on heavy latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (18/1 -125%) Better Getalong |
18/1(-125%) | (3) Better Getalong 18/1, Returned to form with a vengeance when scoring at Ayr in December. Wasn't in the same form there the following month, though. Veteran who has won just twice since 2018; below par last time, albeit on heavy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (8/1 -14%) Largy Shark |
8/1(-14%) | (5) Largy Shark 8/1, Landed a brace of novice hurdles last season but hasn't kicked on his handicaps, flattering to deceive after 12 weeks off at Ayr (20.4f, heavy) 23 days ago. Dual winner; not built on promise of handicap debut but his mark has dropped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (14/1 -133%) Romeo Brown |
14/1(-133%) | (1) Romeo Brown 14/1, Course winner who ran poorly when pulled up in handicap hurdle at Doncaster (24.4f, heavy) 28 days ago. Down in trip. Soft is borderline for him but he can still go well off what's a tempting mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Last-time-out Southwell scorer KILTA looked way ahead of the handicapper and the Curtain Time gelding is taken to make easy work of an 8lb rise in the ratings. Not for the first time, Yealand didn't run to his best ability at Carlisle earlier this month. Jennie Candlish's inmate shouldn't be judged too harshly on that fifth-placed defeat and he isn't taken lightly judged on previous performances, while Romeo Brown is likely to enjoy a return to this distance.
KILTA looked a long way ahead of his opening mark when scoring in stylish fashion at Southwell 16 days ago and is highly likely to go in again. Yealand ought to be competitive once more and is feared most ahead of the class-dropping Gaelik Coast.
The suggestion is KILTA (nap) for whom an 8lb rise could have been worse given how comfortably he won at Southwell.

1st (4) (2/1 +33%) President Scottie |
2/1(+33%) | (4) President Scottie 2/1, Fairly useful form in bumpers and has made a promising start over hurdles, making it third time lucky with wide-margin success in 17-runner maiden at Ayr (20.4f, heavy) just over 5 weeks ago, albeit fortunate having been left clear last. Remains open to improvement now handicapping. Good shout. 2m4f Ayr winner who has potential now up in trip on his handicap debut; could have big say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (5/1 -43%) North Parade |
5/1(-43%) | (6) North Parade 5/1, Completed a hat-trick under this rider in 9-runner handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f, heavy) in February. Unable to land the 4-timer but proved at least as good as ever in defeat when third at Wetherby later that month and holds each-way claims if seeing out this longer trip. Three 2m4f wins before good 2m3f third at Wetherby; worth a go at this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/1 -13%) Ballymagroarty Boy |
9/1(-13%) | (1) Ballymagroarty Boy 9/1, Resumed with a career-best when landing a 9-runner Ffos Las handicap (3m, heavy) in December. Failed to back that up over C&D next time and ran a shocker at Newbury (24.2f, soft) last month. Now just 1 lb above last winning mark but more required. Running pretty well this season until Newbury flop, but drops back down in grade here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/1 -67%) Hashtag Boum |
5/1(-67%) | (3) Hashtag Boum 5/1, Irish point winner who opened her Rules account at Kelso last April. Has returned an improved model this season, building on a couple of runner-up efforts when scoring at Market Rasen (23.1f, soft) just over 6 weeks ago. Fancied to be in the mix from 4 lb higher. Won at Market Rasen last month and could have more to offer over staying trips; shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (8/1 +0%) Shantou Moon |
8/1(+0%) | (10) Shantou Moon 8/1, Back to winning ways at Catterick in January and only narrowly failed to follow up in 7-runner handicap there a month later. Not seen to best effect just over 3 weeks ago (left poorly placed) and no surprise should he be more competitive here. Won at Catterick in January and has continued in good form there; could be in the shake-up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (40/1 -233%) Didtheyleaveuoutto |
40/1(-233%) | (2) Didtheyleaveuoutto 40/1, Ended long losing run over hurdles at Cartmel (22.1f) last July but hasn't really threatened since, finishing down the field at Kelso on his last 2 starts (latest after 3 months off). Mark continues in freefall. Market check advised off reduced mark but this 11yo needs to raise his game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (20/1 -67%) Ballydisco |
20/1(-67%) | (7) Ballydisco 20/1, Dual winner over hurdles last season but yet to fire this term, including over fences. Back hurdling and headgear discarded. Two wins last spring; below last winning mark but this season has been disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (16/1 +20%) Schalke |
16/1(+20%) | (5) Schalke 16/1, Winner at Kelso in December 2022 but hasn't finished any better than mid-field in 5 starts this season. Now below his last winning mark but others preferred. Below last winning mark but tailed off on last three starts; major turnaround is required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (7/1 +30%) Blue Baloo |
7/1(+30%) | (8) Blue Baloo 7/1, Fairly useful in bumpers and made a successful debut over hurdles in 12-runner maiden at Newcastle (2½m, good to soft) in November. Below that level in novices twice since but her opening handicap mark looks workable. Hasn't shone the last twice but may fare better now up in trip on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Although President Scottie could be described as a fortuitous winner having been left in the lead to open his account at Ayr last month, a current rating of 117 looks workable for Nicky Richards' charge. However, fellow in-form rival NORTH PARADE has been shaping as if this step up in distance could unlock further improvement and the nine-year-old edges the vote. Hashtag Boum and Shantou Moon are others to consider.
Plenty in with a squeak but preference is for PRESIDENT SCOTTIE, who was a fortunate winner of an Ayr maiden just over 5 weeks ago but promises to be suited by the nature of a handicap and remains open to improvement. Blue Baloo is another stepping into handicaps for the first time and she may emerge as the main danger, with Hashtag Boum and Shantou Moon taken to fight out third.
The handicap newcomer PRESIDENT SCOTTIE has displayed staying promise in 2m4f novice hurdles at Ayr and he's the selection.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
