14:05 Gowran Park Maiden 7f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

JANUARY showed real potential when finishing second on debut to a better-fancied, once-raced stablemate and should prove hard to beat. Out of a high-class Group 2-winning dam, her Curragh conqueror had herself shown promise when finishing second on her debut, while fifth-placed Queens Fury reopposes and will struggle to turn form. Queens Fury has been placed, both before and after that Curragh run, and might chase home the selection in second place today. Asdana is out of a well-related juvenile Listed winner and cost 80,000 euros as a yearling, while Va Va Vroom is the first foal from a maiden mare and cost 30,000 euros as a yearling.

JANUARY made a promising start when second at the Curragh 3 weeks ago and is very much the one to beat with improvement likely. Queens Fury has nearly as good a form, but is more exposed. Va Va Vroom is an interesting newcomer.

Unless either of the newcomers can step up to the plate then this looks good for JANUARY, who should improve for going over 7f.

14:35 Gowran Park Handicap 7f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

SUMMER SNOW won over C&D in April and while she disappointed on her latest run, she contests a winnable race. She won in a first-time tongue-tie here in April and while subsequently beaten under a mandatory penalty five days later, is capable of a better showing than her latest run and is well drawn in two. Gosford is another C&D winner who should improve from a recent reappearance run and would be suited by softening ground. Von Krolock met minor traffic when running nicely on his seasonal reappearance recently and while his only win, from 17 runs, was gained on the all-weather, he goes well on turf and is better suited by this longer distance than at the Curragh.

It could be significant that Billy Lee is back in the saddle on GOSFORD, who has dropped to 2 lb below the mark she defied when the pair combined over C&D last summer. Von Krolock shaped well on his recent Curragh reappearance and is feared most ahead of Summer Snow, who can be forgiven her latest Cork run and scored over C&D in the spring.

This is open but given the number of times that Paul Flynn has improved new recruits, it might pay to take a chance on SEROTONIN.

15:05 Gowran Park Claimer 8f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

PLAY IT AGAIN ZAAM was well held in two recent runs, but had previously won twice in May and drops to claiming company. He was a C&D winner in early May and while he probably needs to bring his best form to win, he is a largely dependable four-year-old who is ideally suited by this distance and will appreciate any softening of the ground. Nine-time winning nine-year-old Magnetic North is the star performer in the race but while he ran well on debut for new connections at Limerick recently, running over a mile doesn't suit nowadays. Lohengrin has shown nice form recently and while he is a few pounds 'wrong', should compete being well suited by this distance.

MAGNETIC NORTH can build on last week's Limerick comeback run and give the weight away. Denis Hogan's Miqdaad ran well in a Fairyhouse handicap last time and is second choice ahead of Lohengrin, the mount of Colin Keane.

Though LOHENGRIN went close in a Cork handicap over 7f, Listowel didn't suit his style over a mile last time but he can score today.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

SERIOUS NOTIONS hasn't run since December and is badly drawn in 17, but contests a winnable maiden and had some smart form last year. Placed in the Ingabelle Stakes on Champions Weekend last September, she failed to replicate that form on the all-weather subsequently but nonetheless showed form in useful races, with blinkers being dispensed with today. Race-fit Nativity Square is vulnerable to more able types but nonetheless can be relied upon to run her usual race. Next Trick finished third to the Gowran Classic winner at Limerick in May and while she, too, is reliable and should compete, needs to improve to win. Opaque has been well beaten in two maidens to date.

SERIOUS NOTIONS disappointed at Dundalk on her last 2 starts but she's worth another chance on return/back on turf having finished third in a listed race at Leopardstown in September. Counterculture had excuses here 2 weeks ago after a promising debut so is next best ahead of Abbey Actress and Clever Impulse.

A chance is taken on COUNTERCULTURE who stayed on into seventh after starting slowly in Gowran's richest ever race two weeks ago.

16:05 Gowran Park Maiden 8f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

SLANEY SWAGGER reverted down in distance when running well at Limerick on Wednesday and ran a solid race to finish second. Unsuited by Roscommon's tight turns two starts ago, he is generally dependable and contests a winnable maiden. No Knee Never is rated 77 and ran well over C&D last month so should compete. His stablemate Aeronautic met some traffic before quickening well to land his Naas barrier trial on May 27 and while that form is difficult to assess, the runner-up finished second on his racecourse debut on Friday. In-form Shamsuddin will have no trouble reverting to a mile, while front-runner Master Of The Hunt is top-rated at 84 but performed below that level at Killarney.

A chance is taken on newcomer AERONAUTIC, who ticks plenty of the right boxes on paper and he will be all the more appealing if strong in the market. Master of The Hunt, Shamsuddin and Slaney Swagger all possess ability but also clearly have their limitations. Vadali remains open to improvement and he completes the shortlist.

MASTER OF THE HUNT hasn't progressed in his five starts but brings a solid level of form to the table and could improve on this ground

16:35 Gowran Park Stakes 10f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

Last year's Cork Derby winner STAR KISSED would ideally prefer further but nonetheless ran well over C&D recently. A dependable type, she was unable to attain a black-type placing in two Listed runs this year but her recent return to handicap company was encouraging and her 90-rating has been well earned. Five-time winner Belhaven was herself beaten at Listed level recently, but had previously won on debut for new connections at Sligo. She is ideally suited by this distance and there might not be much between her and the selection. Dual C&D winner Glor Tire was effectively running from a rating of 98 under her mandatory penalty at Navan recently and the three-year-old isn't helped by carrying a 4lb penalty today.

CANCELLED went agonisingly close after encountering traffic problems at a crucial stage in a Navan maiden last time and she could find the necessary improvement to make it third time lucky. Star Kissed also arrives here on the back of a near-miss and she is feared most ahead of Belhaven and Glore Tire.

Just denied in a C&D handicap last time by a filly who since ran well in a Group 3, STAR KISSED (nap) can go one better today.

17:05 Gowran Park Handicap 14f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

WHATCOULDHAVEBEEN is a smart hurdler who is well suited by this staying Flat distance. She has progressed very well in her hurdling career, attaining a Grade 1 placing in April 2023, and ran well behind Teahupoo at the recent Punchestown Festival. She was well held on her two most recent Flat runs last October but they were pipe-opening seasonal reappearance runs and, prior to that, had won on the Flat in October 2022. Sceptred Isle has shown nice improvement recently, but is 11lb higher than when winning at Tipperary. Believe In Science is a 21-race maiden who hasn't run since March, but has some useful placed form over similar distances.

This could be the day when BELIEVE IN SCIENCE finally gets his head in front. Jim Bolger's charge performed with credit back from a break at Dundalk in March and he remains on an attractive mark. Walnut Beach scored over fences at Clonmel recently and will be a major threat if he puts his best foot forward back in this sphere, while Whatcouldhavebeen is a live each-way player on the back of a good effort in a Grade 1 over hurdles last time.

Most of these have a lot to prove. Preference is for STRIKING, a C&D winner who didn't run at all badly over hurdles only last week.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.

Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
