1st (1) (11/10 +12%) Quel Destin |
11/10(+12%) | (1) Quel Destin 11/10, Well held on 2m Ascot reappearance but this is much less competitive and a bold show looks assured if reacting positively to a change of headgear (first-time blinkers replacing cheekpieces). Quiet comeback but on a good mark and has won on heavy; blinkers replace cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (8/11 +71%) Zhiguli |
8/11(+71%) | (3) Zhiguli 8/11, Returned to winning ways at Sandown in March. Respectable fourth in 3m Ascot handicap on reappearance but never got in any sort of rhythm when pulled up back there since. This much easier, though. Likeable comeback at Ascot and the ground was too fast for him back there 18 days ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
QUEL DESTIN may have been well beaten on his return at Ascot last month, but he remains a classy individual on his day, and it was only in March that he was runner-up in a premier handicap at Sandown off 2lb higher. The fact he is unbeaten over jumps on heavy ground is another plus, and he may have too much for Bennys King, who was revitalised in hunter chases last season. Zhiguli is not be to be dismissed either for the in-form Gary Moore team.
In a contest where all 3 runners need to shrug off below-par efforts last time, QUEL DESTIN is taken to leave his Ascot reappearance behind and prove too strong for Zhiguli.
None of these ran at all well last time out but ZHIGULI (nap) did have a valid excuse at Ascot where he found the ground too fast.

1st (5) (5/1 +64%) Soigneux Bell |
5/1(+64%) | (5) Soigneux Bell 5/1, Made a winning debut on the Flat in France in May and ran to a fair level when second in a 1¼m Epsom novice on his first run for Gary Moore. Only modest form in 2 hurdles in recent months and might be of more interest in this sphere when handicapping. Flat winner but had a quiet start over hurdles and looks best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (7/2 +71%) Spiced Rum |
7/2(+71%) | (8) Spiced Rum 7/2, Fair staying handicapper on Flat, improving again when wide-margin winner in very testing conditions at Bath (17f) in October. Could be up to making an impact in juvenile hurdles. Has the stamina for hurdling but it was a low-grade 2m1f Flat handicap she won at Bath. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (13/2 -86%) Ellerton |
13/2(-86%) | (1) Ellerton 13/2, Fairly useful Flat on the Flat in France for Tim Donworth. Well beaten pitched into a Cheltenham Grade 2 on his hurdle debut but could fare a lot better with his sights lowered. French Flat winner; stiff task at Cheltenham where some early interference didn't help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/4 +10%) Karaktere D'Enfer |
9/4(+10%) | (3) Karaktere D'Enfer 9/4, Close second of 11 to a useful sort in a newcomers races at Fontainebleau in March. Not beaten far when last of 3 on Doncaster British debut last month. Tongue tied first time. Looks the obvious danger to River Gold. Positives to take from both his runs and should hold every chance in this company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (10/3 -203%) River Gold |
10/3(-203%) | (4) River Gold 10/3, Much improved from debut when winning 11-runner claiming hurdle at Dieppe (17f, soft) in July by 9 lengths. Has joined Nicky Henderson since and is probably the one to beat on British debut. Had two runs over hurdles in France and won second time out with the minimum of fuss. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (25/1 -56%) Queen Of Steel |
25/1(-56%) | (7) Queen Of Steel 25/1, Poor maiden on the Flat and ran to only a similar level when second of 4 on her soft-ground C&D hurdle debut last month. Likely vulnerable to a few in this line-up. Limited Flat maiden and her second here on hurdling debut looks dodgy form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (80/1 +20%) Parish Star |
80/1(+20%) | (6) Parish Star 80/1, Modest on the Flat in Ireland for Jim Bolger and similar form at best in his 2 completed starts over hurdles. Early signs question her ability to win a race of this nature. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An impressive winner of a claiming hurdle at Dieppe for previous connections in July, RIVER GOLD could be a nice recruit to the Nicky Henderson stable. This looks like another winnable contest for the three-year-old, and Karaktere D'enfer appears to be his main danger after a promising third on his domestic debut at Doncaster last month. Ellerton and recent C&D second Queen Of Steel are also open to improvement.
Nicky Henderson French recruit RIVER GOLD is probably the one to beat, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Fellow French import Karaktere d'Enfer can give him most to do ahead of Ellerton and Spiced Rum.
Nicky Henderson's French winner RIVER GOLD probably has a good bit of potential and this looks a nice starting point in Britain.

1st (3) (5/6 +72%) Flintara |
5/6(+72%) | (3) Flintara 5/6, Better than ever when winning 2 of her 3 starts over hurdles last season and respectable return back over fences at Ffos Las last month. Room for improvement given hurdles form. 3m2f course winner over hurdles; pleasing third on her recent return to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/4 -10%) It's Easy |
11/4(-10%) | (1) It's Easy 11/4, Fairly useful maiden chaser in France for David Cottin. Much better effort for this yard when third at Lingfield 4 weeks ago and entitled to come on again. Up in trip. Tongue strap back on. Big shout eased 2 lb in weaker race. Improved third at Lingfield; unraced beyond 2m6f but could have some potential lurking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 +57%) Santa Clarita |
3/1(+57%) | (4) Santa Clarita 3/1, Fair form over hurdles/fences in France. Stepped up on yard debut when third of 7 over hurdles at Huntingdon but well held otherwise for current connections, albeit better for return when fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Leicester (22.7f, good to soft) 22 days ago. Lacked gears on good to soft over 2m6f at Leicester last time but didn't run at all badly. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Proven course form could be crucial in a contest of this nature, and that bodes well for FLINTARA, who shaped with promise at Ffos Las last month. The ground should not inconvenience this daughter of Kayf Tara, and it may be that the in-form Presenting Nelly gives her the most to think about, despite attempting a significant rise in distance. It's Easy ran with credit at Lingfield last time and may improve for going up in trip.
PRESENTING NELLY did well over hurdles and is bred to make a staying chaser, so is taken to make a winning start in this sphere. It's Easy stepped up markedly on reappearance run/yard debut when third at Lingfield and rates the main threat if seeing out the longer trip.
This trip will feel a long way under these conditions but it shouldn't faze FLINTARA who has won over 3m2f on the hurdle track here.

1st (2) (11/8 +21%) Herakles Westwood |
11/8(+21%) | (2) Herakles Westwood 11/8, Fair form in bumpers and much improved over hurdles when landing 13-runner handicap at Lingfield (19.5f, good to soft) 12 days ago, forging clear from last. A 9 lb rise doesn't look enough to stop him with further progress likely. Short in the market for both his handicaps and was merely pushed out to collect the latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/1 -133%) Talimar Pearl |
7/1(-133%) | (4) Talimar Pearl 7/1, Runner-up in handicaps at Newton Abbot 917f) and Warwick (19f) in the spring. Contender if resuming in similar form. Off since May but that was his best run yet when going close in a 2m3f handicap at Warwick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (12/1 +25%) Bertie B |
12/1(+25%) | (1) Bertie B 12/1, Bumper winner but he's yet to better modest form over hurdles. This season's 2 runs disappointing and needs first-time cheekpieces to help spark a revival. Can be keen; most effective performances have come on good ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (10/1 -25%) Fortuitous Favour |
10/1(-25%) | (8) Fortuitous Favour 10/1, Beaten upwards of 21 lengths in all 3 hurdle starts but a bumper win at the start of his career marks him down as a potential improver in handicaps. Another to check out in the betting. Hopes rest on step up in trip (could suit on pedigree) and the fitting of a tongue-strap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (8/1 +0%) Bombay Sapphire |
8/1(+0%) | (3) Bombay Sapphire 8/1, Fair bumper winner in Ireland. Reached the frame in novices in first 2 outings over hurdles. Disappointed when making a quick switch to handicaps at Exeter in April. Still early days and a wind op since last seen might make a difference. Maiden over hurdles; has had wind surgery and she won her bumper on heavy ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (25/1 +24%) Ipso Falco |
25/1(+24%) | (6) Ipso Falco 25/1, Poor form in bumpers/over hurdles, faring no better switched to handicap company last time. Nothing positive to report so far and he was 25-1 when tailed off on his handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (16/1 -100%) Letmetellusomethin |
16/1(-100%) | (7) Letmetellusomethin 16/1, Signs of ability in bumpers and while he has failed to make an impact in a trio of novice hurdles, improvement may well be forthcoming now that he goes down the handicap route. Cheekpieces added. One to monitor closely in the betting. No more than minor promise over hurdles but this his first time outside of novice company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (4/1 +43%) Inspector Lynley |
4/1(+43%) | (9) Inspector Lynley 4/1, Still a maiden but he arrives in decent nick, fifth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Hereford 56 days ago. Cheekpieces go on for the first time. 0-10 but hasn't been too far away in his completed handicaps and now gets cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (14/1 -40%) The Cox Express |
14/1(-40%) | (5) The Cox Express 14/1, Won Warwick bumper in January for Tom Lacey. Disappointing in 3 hurdles since (last 2 for this yard) but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him fare a lot better now handicapping. One to note in the betting. Won his bumper on heavy, albeit a weak one; tailed off in all three hurdles runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (100/1 +33%) Crookbarrow |
100/1(+33%) | (10) Crookbarrow 100/1, Yet to show much, pulling up on Lingfield handicap debut 12 days ago. Has accomplished very little under rules, including a handicap 12 days ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HERAKLES WESTWOOD was a ready winner at Lingfield 12 days ago and, assuming the quick turnaround isn't an issue, he is fancied to cope with a 9lb hike in the ratings. Talimar Pearl looks the pick of the opposition based on a couple of improved efforts of late, while Inspector Lynley is dangerous to ignore from the bottom of the handicap with first-time cheekpieces applied.
The manner in which HERAKLES WESTWOOD forged clear in the closing stages at Lingfield recently suggests even a 9 lb rise may not stop him with the longer trip here promising to see him in an even better light. Talimar Pearl was runner-up twice in the spring and should go well if resuming in similar form. The likes of The Cox Express, Letmetellusomethin and Fortuitous Favour are potential improvers in handicappers and need monitoring in the betting.
Conditions are a concern for HERAKLES WESTWOOD but connections knew the score when declaring and he won nicely at Lingfield.

1st (1) (4/1 +11%) Easy To Follow |
4/1(+11%) | (1) Easy To Follow 4/1, Rather had run of race when making successful debut over hurdles in 7-runner novice at Uttoxeter (19.9f, heavy) 24 days ago. However, likely has more to offer yet and holds solid claims. It was never in much doubt at Uttoxeter and she's heading in the right direction. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (33/1 -136%) Batwomen |
33/1(-136%) | (4) Batwomen 33/1, Fair performer in bumpers, posting respectable fifth on return at Huntingdon (15.8f, good to soft, 12/1) 43 days ago. Upped in trip for hurdling debut and can't be discounted. Perhaps flattered when finishing closer at Huntingdon as they went no pace. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/4 +18%) Kay Tara Tara |
9/4(+18%) | (2) Kay Tara Tara 9/4, Above-average bumper performer who made a comfortable winning start in this sphere in novice at Huntingdon (19.6f, good) 56 days ago. Open to improvement and will be a player if handling slower conditions here. Bumper winner who won a small-field event on hurdling debut; should progress further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/4 +50%) Ask Lileen |
11/4(+50%) | (3) Ask Lileen 11/4, £30,000 5-y-o, Soldier of Fortune mare. Won at third time of asking in points last year and has since joined shrewd yard. Worth monitoring in market on hurdles bow. Wears tongue strap. Absent since point win in early 2022 but she beat a Grade 1 winner that day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (40/1 -60%) Jalisco Star |
40/1(-60%) | (6) Jalisco Star 40/1, Placed both starts in Irish points but went backwards from Rules debut in bumper at this course when last seen in May and is best watched on hurdles bow for new connections. Down the field in both her bumpers and has since changed hands for £9,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (9/1 +36%) Step It Out Goldie |
9/1(+36%) | (7) Step It Out Goldie 9/1, Showed ability in Irish bumper earlier this year but looked one for longer term when fourth of 9 in novice at this course (17.7f, soft) on hurdles/yard debut 23 days ago. Only 11-2 for a 2m1f novice hurdle here and perhaps needed the race in that 30l defeat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (10/3 +33%) Bethka |
10/3(+33%) | (5) Bethka 10/3, Showed fair form when placed twice from 3 starts in bumpers and better effort over hurdles when fourth in Market Rasen novice (20.6f, good to soft) last time. Tongue strap is on and there's likely more to come. Behind Stuti at Market Rasen and gives the impression that she's going to stay further. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The two recent winners, Kay Tara Tara and EASY TO FOLLOW look the pair to focus on, with the latter edging preference as the one with the slightly more proven stamina, given his background in point-to-points. Both carry 7lb penalties, which creates some hope for any supporters of Bethka, who may find some improvement now that a tongue strap is applied.
Preference is for BETHKA, who shaped better than the bare result at Market Rasen last month and remains open to improvement. Stuti and Easy To Follow rate the principal dangers.
Uttoxeter winner EASY TO FOLLOW may be able to defy her penalty on ground she may handle better than some of her rivals.

1st (3) (9/2 +25%) Good Friday Fairy |
9/2(+25%) | (3) Good Friday Fairy 9/2, Steadily progressive over hurdles, off the mark at Chepstow in April, and jumped pretty well when third on chase debut back from a break at Ffos Las (2m, heavy) last month. Couldn't be sure that this step back up in trip will be in his favour, though. Gave it a good go from the front on chase debut; should appreciate this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|R| (5) (4/6 +67%) Aviles |
4/6(+67%) | (5) Aviles 4/6, Fair ex-French hurdler who found just one too good all 4 starts in juvenile/maiden hurdles last term. Again runner-up when going agonisingly close on return/chase debut at Fontwell (19.5f, soft), a race he probably would've won but for a bad mistake 2 out. Solid chance. Unlucky to remain a maiden and just missed out on chase debut after a late mistake. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (4/1 -33%) Grizzly James |
4/1(-33%) | (4) Grizzly James 4/1, Fairly useful ex-French hurdles winner who took advantage of reduced mark when scoring at Hereford in April. Set to follow up when falling 2 out at Chepstow later that month. Off since but remains of interest for in-form yard. Signed off last season in good form and appeals as the type with more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (9/1 -38%) Casa Tall |
9/1(-38%) | (7) Casa Tall 9/1, Three-time winner over fences in 2021. Has been a while since he last troubled the judge but has slipped a long way in the weights and shaped as though a revival may be imminent on debut for new yard at Carlisle in October. Well handicapped on best form and wasn't beaten too far after a break on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (100/1 -400%) Mortens Leam |
100/1(-400%) | (1) Mortens Leam 100/1, Five-time winner over fences but offered little on return from 21 months off at Fontwell on Boxing Day and has plenty to prove now returning from another absence. Pulled up here last Boxing Day after a long layoff and now returns from another. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The Gary Moore stable has clicked into gear of late and this looks like an ideal opportunity for AVILES to finally get off the mark, having been denied by the narrowest of margins on his chase debut over C&D last month. Grizzly James returns from a 241-day break, having looked as though he may win at Chepstow in April before falling two out, while Good Friday Fairy open to improvement after a promising chasing bow at Ffos Las.
AVILES was likely to have made a winning chase/handicap bow but for a drastic late error over this C&D on return last month and is fancied to make amends at the main expense of Grizzly James, who was also looking the likely winner when falling 2 out at Chepstow when last seen in the spring.
A few with chances but AVILES is just plain unfortunate to still be a maiden and this could be his lucky day.

Ray's The One |
(4) (7/1 +22%)7/1(+22%) | (4) Ray's The One 7/1, Both of his wins over hurdles have been registered over C&D, including this race 12 months ago. Has slipped back to the winning mark but he's not the most consistent, both in this sphere and on the Flat, and one or two of these are more appealing. Soft-ground winner here in the past but current wellbeing looks an issue. |

He's A Latchico |
(2) (10/11 +39%)10/11(+39%) | (2) He's A Latchico 10/11, Duly left novice form behind switched to handicaps during the summer, scoring twice at up to 19f on good/good to firm here (also scored on the Flat in July). Proved that he handles slow ground after all when a solid second at Sandown (2m, heavy) on Saturday. Big player. Outstayed after travelling the best at Sandown on Friday and this looks easier. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (7/2 +22%) Thirtyfour Thirty |
7/2(+22%) | (1) Thirtyfour Thirty 7/2, Fairly useful bumper winner for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the summer. Best of his three runs over hurdles when fourth of 9 in a Wincanton novice (21.4f, soft) 19 days ago but improvement needed back down in trip for this handicap debut. Respectable bumper form on good ground; hasn't hit the same heights over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (2/1 +71%) Smart Casual |
2/1(+71%) | (8) Smart Casual 2/1, Bumper run wasn't devoid of promise and hinted at ability in maiden/novice company last season. Failed to take a step forward when pulled up on return/handicap debut at Stratford (18.7f, heavy) but entitled to come on for that run and this 5-y-o is likely capable of better. Lightly raced; pulled up on his handicap debut at Stratford last month when an 11-1 chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 +76%) Highlander Casseul |
6/1(+76%) | (5) Highlander Casseul 6/1, Fair ex-Irish maiden hurdler but has offered little in 3 starts for present connections. Ex-Irish maiden who has finished tailed off in three 2m4f handicaps for his current yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (11/4 +0%) What's My Line |
11/4(+0%) | (7) What's My Line 11/4, Off the mark over hurdles in a 21.7f handicap here last October and back to form on second run following a wind op when scoring at Lingfield (2m, good to soft) 3 weeks ago. Remains to be seen if he can back that up but will be a threat if able to do so off this 4 lb higher mark. Overcame some interference to win going away at Lingfield; softer ground is a grey area. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (8/1 +33%) Play By The Rules |
8/1(+33%) | (3) Play By The Rules 8/1, Aided by first-time cheekpieces when decisively taking 13-runner handicap hurdle at Taunton (19f, heavy) in March. Followed that with a good second at Hereford next time but his reappearance effort last month wasn't overly inspiring. First and second in first two handicaps; struggled on return but in a higher grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (20/1 +60%) Leading The Way |
20/1(+60%) | (6) Leading The Way 20/1, Winless following 9 attempts over hurdles for Gillian Scott in Ireland and recent debut for this yard at Lingfield resulted in a heavy defeat. Visor applied. Placed once on heavy in Ireland; 100-1 when tailed off on recent stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Turned out again quickly after a strong runner-up effort at Sandown last Friday, HE'S A LATCHICO should appreciate going up in trip, as well as a return to his favourite track where he is unbeaten. Another course winner What's My Line must also enter calculations after a determined success at Lingfield on his seasonal debut. Thirtyfour Thirty is another to note making his handicap debut off what could be a lenient mark.
The case for HE'S A LATCHICO is a pretty compelling one, given that he's 2-2 over C&D and found just one too good off this mark in a stronger race at Sandown on Saturday. What's My Line also has winning form here and looks the main danger on the back of his recent Lingfield success. Smart Casual is probably capable of better than he has shown thus far and is most interesting of the remainder.
This looks a weak race and easier than the one in which HE'S A LATCHICO looked all over the winner for a long way at Sandown on Friday.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
