13/8(+19%)
(6) Electric Mason 13/8, Point recruit who opened his account in bumpers at Kempton and acquitted himself well in defeat in that sphere later in the campaign. Stuck to his task nicely when runner-up on hurdles debut at Uttoxeter and slight step up in trip can only aid his cause.
Better off with Laurens Bay on bumper running here in March and warrants respect.

12:50 Fontwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

LAURENS BAY was beaten six lengths into second when making his hurdling debut at Stratford last month and he would have learned a great deal from that experience. With normal progression, he could prove hard to beat. Electric Mason took the silver medal home at Uttoxeter on his most recent outing and should go well on only his second start in this sphere, while Falstaff is worth a market check with Sam Twiston-Davies booked.

Bumper-winners ELECTRIC MASON and Laurens Bay showed enough on their respective debut in this sphere to think they will be winning races sooner rather than later, with marginal preference for the Chris Gordon inmate. Ami Bondhu is also open to progress so needs considering.

The big feature of this race is the rematch between ELECTRIC MASON and Laurens Bay. The former is narrowly preferred.

13:25 Fontwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Call Off The Dogs made it three wins from his last four starts when scoring by half a length over track and trip in September and it would be no surprise to see him get involved off 5lb higher. However, the vote goes to SAMAZUL, who made a victorious debut over fences when scoring in good style over 2m2f here last time and should improve for this rise in distance. Last-time-out winner West Orchard is another to take seriously.

SAMAZUL impressed with how he jumped/travelled when making a winning chase debut here (17.8f) 16 days ago. He promises to do better still judged by the manner of that success and makes plenty of appeal back up in trip. Sir Rock, with a reappearance run over hurdles behind him, and Call Off The Dogs, who has landed 3 of his last 4 starts here, can provide chief resistance.

With further improvement a possibility, SAMAZUL (nap) is taken to follow up his reappearance win. Call Off The Dogs is next best.

14:00 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

CRAVEN BAY made it 2-2 since joining the Toby Lawes stable when scoring by a head at Hereford last time and is only 4lb higher for that triumph. The eight-year-old remains in the same grade and can complete the hat-trick. Fortuna Ligna occupied the runner-up berth in a stronger event than this at Cartmel on her latest outing in May and could have a say off the same mark. Heaven Smart completes the shortlist.

Not as competitive as the numbers suggest and CRAVEN BAY is fancied to defy another 4 lb rise in the weights and go 3-3 for Toby Lawes. Cartmel runner-up Fortuna Ligna appeals as the one to chase him home ahead of Heaven Smart and Ri Na Cuirte.

Maiden RI NA CUIRTE seems best when fresh and is interesting off a reduced mark back from a layoff. Craven Bay is second choice.

14:35 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

DOUBLE POWERFUL arrives here on the back of four wins and even a 14lb higher mark than his 24-length success at Worcester last month may not be enough to stop him. That said, Jilaijone was not disgraced on his return at Cheltenham recently and should not be underestimated. Kissman is also noted on his debut for these connections having won when last seen in France earlier in the year.

The 5-timer beckons for DOUBLE POWERFUL, who made mincemeat of another field of low-grade handicappers at Worcester last month and Neil Mulholland's 5-y-o is taken to defy a hefty 14 lb rise at the expense of Jilaijone, who remains without a win since his British debut (at this track) but ran creditably on his recent return at Cheltenham. French-recruit Kissman, who changed hands for €125,000 in July, rounds off the shortlist.

A chance is taken on JILAIJONE, who has an underwhelming strike-rate but looks interesting returned to the scene of his sole win.

15:10 Fontwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SAFE DESTINATION took a big step forward when scoring readily over 3m at Market Rasen in September and the six-year-old should be capable of defying a 5lb rise in this company. Eurkash was well held when second over C&D a couple of weeks ago but a first-time visor could spark some improvement, while any market support for Proper Twelve would have to be noted on his return to action.

EURKASH hasn't won for a good while but he's not had much racing for current connections and his latest effort over C&D suggests he's ready to strike, so he's preferred to last-time-out winner Safe Destination. Proper Twelve is of interest if the market speaks in his favour on debut for a new yard.

It's a long time since his sole success but EURKASH holds a solid chance on recent C&D form. Pawpaw is second choice.

33/1(-65%)
(10) Smith 33/1, Successful 7 times on the Flat but he's something of an AW specialist and while he makes his handicap debut in this sphere on a lowly mark, this 8-y-o makes limited appeal judged on previous hurdles exploits.
Multiple 2m AW winner on the Flat; best hurdle run came last month but the form looks weak.

40/1(-300%)
(4) Hurst Hill 40/1, Placed in a couple of mares' novice events at Newton Abbot during the early part of the summer (both at around 17f). Safely held back from a break in an Exeter maiden last month but there were still positives to gean from that effort and she should do better now pitched into a handicap.
Makes handicap debut at a realistic level but improvement looks a must.

(11) Owl Of Athens 28/1, Didn't show much in a trio of novice events and improvement has not been forthcoming switched to handicaps the last twice. Opposable back from a 7-month absence.
Not easily recommended on racecourse achievement but the return to faster ground may help.

(7) Basman Palace 33/1, Hasn't pulled up any trees in half-a-dozen starts over hurdles and, having run poorly at Stratford when last seen in May, it's easy enough to look elsewhere.
Snippets of form last season but likely best watched back from a break.

20/1(-264%)
(5) Dreams Fled Away 20/1, Successful twice on the AW in Ireland earlier this year and duly stepped up on low-key qualifying runs in this sphere when chasing home Mavis Pike on handicap hurdle debut at Fakenham last week. 7 lb pull with that rival gives him a fighting chance of reversing those placings.
Two AW wins in Ireland last winter; good 2nd on recent handicap hurdle debut; 3lb well in.

(12) Thieving Gap 50/1, Little show in bumpers/maiden hurdles so far and sizeable step forward needed now that he ventures down the handicap route in a first-time hood.
Not shown a huge amount but up in trip and hooded for his handicap debut; check betting.

(8) The Cooleen 80/1, No great shakes for two different yards in Ireland and improvement will be needed now switched to this side of the pond for new connections.
Unplaced in eight starts in Ireland; not obviously well treated starting out for new yard.

15:45 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Mavis Pike has to be of interest having got off the mark over 2m at Fakenham last week, but a 7lb penalty has to be a slight concern. With that in mind, preference is for LADY CARO, who caught the eye when fourth at Plumpton recently and she may have more to offer here. Dreams Fled Away was second to Mavis Pike last time and is another to consider.

OFFICER OF STATE hasn't shown a great deal over hurdles so far, but he has to be of interest now handicapping off this mark given the level of ability he showed for Andre Fabre on the Flat. Dreams Fled Away is taken to reverse recent Fakenham placings with Mavis Pike on these revised terms, while Lady Caro makes each-way appeal.

Gearing's Point can go well back on a sound surface but OFFICER OF STATE could prove leniently treated on his handicap hurdle debut.
