0.25/1(+60%)
(1) Basford 0.25/1, Bumper winner who has proved largely consistent since switched to hurdles, for all that he appears to have his fair share of quirks. Just touched off by an unknown quantity in a Newton Abbot novice (21.6f, good) recently and will prove hard to beat if responding well to the first-time visor.
Consistent but only one win and has proved expensive to follow; visor on for first time.

(3) Woodie Flash 5.5/1, £20,000 purchase after getting off the mark in Irish points at the second attempt in February. Turned over when odds on for hurdles debut in a Market Rasen maiden (20.6f, good) but probably capable of better. Cheekpieces applied.
Irish point winner; beaten at 4-11 on British/hurdle debut; cheekpieces now fitted.

LTO Selection:

18:10 Fontwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BASFORD was turned over at short odds for a second time this season when denied by a neck at Newton Abbot last Wednesday. Nevertheless, Jennie Candlish's gelding had to concede 19lb to his victor on that occasion and these rivals don't appear as strong. Glorious Mist may have been flattered by her proximity to a 118-rated rival over C&D last month, but the mare looks the chief threat here, ahead of recent Market Rasen runner-up Woodie Flash.

This is best left to BASFORD, who failed to land the odds at Newton Abbot last week but it will be surprising should he fail to deliver here. Woodie Flash is preferred to Glorious Mist for forecast purposes.

He does not have an entirely convincing profile but, nevertheless, BASFORD is very much the one to beat in this modest race.

LTO Selection:

18:45 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ANOTHER MYSTERY needs to prove that his breakthrough success in a maiden hurdle at Market Rasen last time was no fluke, but Lucy Wadham's charge would take some stopping if reproducing that level of performance on this switch to handicaps. Coconut Twist's stamina appeared stretched by the extended 3m distance at Southwell in May and appears a likely player dropping back in trip. Dynamic Kate may build on her third-placed return at Ludlow last month and is another to note.

Neil Mulholland has an interesting pair in DYNAMIC KATE and Happy Returns. The former is 2-2 over C&D and shaped well on her return at Ludlow so could be the way to go, although her stablemate leaves the impression she has races in her. Another Mystery was a runaway winner at Market Rasen and is dangerous to discount for all he's not looked the most hardy.

Although Another Mystery is tempting, COCONUT TWIST is preferred.

(1) Pak Army 3.33/1, Different proposition for this yard since blinkers and tongue tie have been reapplied, completing a four-timer from the front (second leg on Flat) when seeing off 6 rivals at Stratford 13 days ago. Obvious claims.
Front-runner; has won last four starts; up 8lb for Stratford win; hard to catch again.
LTO Selection:

19:20 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

PAK ARMY hasn't looked back since enjoying a switch of headgear in early April and his latest 8lb rise in the handicap might not prevent a four-timer in this sphere. Phoenix Risen was foiled in his quest to land a hat-trick when runner-up at Newton Abbot last month, but Jeremy Scott's six-year-old is expected to remain competitive off the same mark here. Little separates Fanfaron Dino and Tara Iti judged on May's C&D encounter and neither can be ruled out.

FANFARON DINO is progressive when faced with firmish ground and he's fancied to follow up his C&D win 19 days ago. Tara Iti was runner-up that day and should make his presence felt again, while Pak Army is worthy of respect as he bids to land a cross-code five-timer.

Ran well when narrowly beaten at Warwick last month; this is probably harder.
LTO Selection:

19:55 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Sirobbie was all heart when scoring over C&D on his latest outing, but that was arguably the result of a falling handicap mark, so the vote goes to the hat-trick seeking JERSEY LADY. She kept on well to win over a similar trip at Cartmel on her most recent outing and appears the one to beat now rated 4lb higher. Premier D'troice was only narrowly denied off 3lb lower at Warwick last month and completes the shortlist.

Cases can be made for all five of these but PREMIER D'TROICE's claims are the most compelling. The 9-y-o pulled clear of the rest when going down narrowly back in this sphere at Warwick and he remains on a good mark. Sirobbie resumed winning ways over this C&D last month and he is feared most, while Astroman is best of the rest.

Well held in 2 quick runs the following month and looked in need of this test when third on handicap debut. Cheekpieces on.
Well beaten third on handicap debut; cheekpieces on and up in trip.
LTO Selection:

20:25 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

This represents a drop in class for the relatively unexposed TIMES ARE BLUE, who is entitled to come on from his return off a break over 2m3f at this track last month. A stiffer stamina test, combined with first-time cheekpieces, could seal the deal for Oliver Sherwood's five-year-old and he is fancied to get the better of Baby Sham, who retains the mark from her recent second at Stratford earlier this month. The veteran in the field, 11-year-old Monty's Award, looks the pick of the remainder.

MILANESE ROSE has yet to win a race but probably won't get a better chance in truth on the back of an encouraging reappearance in a deeper handicap than this at Huntingdon last month. This is unlikely to be a thorough test at the trip, so Baby Sham's relative speed brings her firmly into the mix.

LTO Selection:

21:00 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Although He's A Latchico took a big step forward when scoring on his handicap bow over an extended 2m1f last month, he has to shoulder top-weight, as well as a 6lb raised mark here. Therefore, the vote goes to the reopposing MISS FEDORA, who is 7lb better off with her rival than when finishing in third behind the selection during the first-mentioned contest. Walk In The Storm is another to consider in first-time cheekpieces.

HE'S A LATCHICO opened his account over hurdles last time and his Flat form would suggest that he's still well treated, so he gets the nod ahead of Walk In The Storm, who is back from a break and represents an in-form yard. Testflight is also of interest.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
