17:10 Fontwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The switch to more forceful tactics saw BREAK MY SOUL romp home by 25 lengths in a maiden hurdle at Chepstow last month and a similar approach may see Nicky Henderson's mare go in again. Miss Goldfire was far from disgraced when finishing eighth in an 18-runner bumper at Cheltenham and the five-year-old isn't taken lightly now tackling hurdles, with point-to-point winner Shantwopointfive another to bear in mind.

BREAK MY SOUL won hard held at Chepstow recently and might be to up to defying a penalty in this line-up. The chief threat may come from hurdle newcomers, with Miss Goldfire and Shantwopointfive showing enough promise in bumpers to suggest they can make an impact in a race like this.

This is a probably a second good opportunity in a row for BREAK MY SOUL, with Miss Goldfire looking the chief danger on bumper form.

17:40 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Although NORTON HILL was thwarted in his hat-trick bid when only fourth at Plumpton last time out, this return to class 4 company is likely to suit. The Fame And Glory gelding still looks capable of scoring off his current rating and he edges the vote ahead of Island Run. The seven-year-old arrives here on the back of a solid second over an extended 3m at Kempton and this longer distance will only help. Blue Ridge Hill rates best of the rest.

EARTH KING has lost the plot over fences but is well treated on the form he showed over hurdles last spring and might be worth chancing back over timber in first-time headgear. Island Run has been back to form this spring and is second choice ahead of Norton Hill.

Some thorough stayers involved here, not least NORTON HILL (nap), who remains in good form and may be able to outclass his opponents.

18:10 Fontwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Millies Mite must enter calculations after opening her account over C&D at the 28th time of asking under Rules. A 4lb rise in the ratings looks workable, but there is a fair chance that GUIVINEC, who was behind in third that day, will gain his revenge. That was the five-year-old's first start over fences and he's open to more improvement than most of these. Rajjamataz also warrants a second look.

Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole have made a flying start to the 2024/25 season and their RAJJAMATAZ is taken to build on his chase debut promise at the second attempt having found the test too much at Exeter in March. He can get the better of Guivinec, who produced a promising first effort over the larger obstacles when a couple of places behind Millies Mite at this C&D last month.

A sound surface could better suit RAJJAMATAZ, who showed enough on his chase debut to suggest he can improve to score.

18:40 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Alex Chadwick got a great tune out of MERMAIDS CAVE here last week, with the James Owen-trained mare justifying favouritism with the minimum of fuss. She has been raised 9lb so is well-in under her penalty and can take full advantage. Mac Be Lucky was hot on the heels of a subsequent winner when third at Chepstow so has to be considered a player. Jumping has proved the undoing of Gorcombe Moonshine over fences, but he is worth a look back in this sphere.

MERMAIDS CAVE was having just her second start for James Owen when scoring in decisive fashion here last week and a 7 lb penalty may not be enough to prevent a follow-up success. Tara Iti and Mac Be Lucky can also make their presence felt.

4lb well in for last week's 2m3f course success, MERMAIDS CAVE can double up. Mac Be Lucky should appreciate the sharp track.

19:10 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Baltray was beaten a length by Cape Vidal on these terms in a novice hurdle here back in the autumn, but comprehensively went one better subsequently and can improve past his rival. He does have an absence to overcome on his handicap debut, though, whereas JOLYJUMP was out only last week when runner-up to a well-handicapped odds-on favourite at Fakenham. He can go one better off the same mark, with Hecouldbetheone just about the pick of the remaining three.

This looks a fair race for the field size with JOLYJUMP just about the most persuasive option having shaped well in second from this mark at Fakenham last week. Hecouldbetheone won here last time and his revised mark is perfectly fair, with Baltray another potential improver now handicapping back from a break.

The very lightly raced BALTRAY looked promising last autumn and is taken to make a winning return for the in-form Emma Lavelle.

(4) Call Off The Dogs 11/4, Career best when winning 5-runner handicap chase at Plumpton (25.7f, good) in 2022. Missed whole of last year and belatedly showed he retains ability when fourth of 12 at Taunton (21.7f) 3 weeks ago. On a career-low mark if he can back that up now.
Winner off 6lb higher two years ago; not sure that this shorter trip rates a positive.

(3) Ferrybridge 2/1, A fair winning hurdler/chaser who was left clear at the last when opening his account in a handicap chase at Huntingdon (16.5f, good to soft) in March. Respectable third from this mark at Hereford (2m) 9 days ago and likely to give it another good go.
Still well treated on form of Huntingdon win and last week's Hereford third; respected.

Back to form over 2f further here latest; still on great mark next to his best Irish form.

19:40 Fontwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Already a double winner over C&D, BLAZE A TRAIL ran an encouraging race on his first start for 209 days when second at Wincanton last month. The 10-year-old should come on plenty for that effort and he gets the vote ahead of unexposed chase debutant Lone Soldier, and Kalkas, who wasn't beaten far over further here last time out. Ferrybridge is another to note.

LONE SOLDIER showed more than previously over hurdles equipped with a first time tongue strap when third at Wetherby (2m) in March and he could be worth chancing to build on that from his low mark now his attentions switch to larger obstacles. Kalkas and Ferrybridge may emerge as the chief threats.

2-2 when contesting 0-100 handicap chases and eased 3lb, BLAZE A TRAIL can regain winning ways ahead of the well-treated Kalkas.

20:10 Fontwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

GETAWAYS GIFT showed major improvement from her first to second start when runner-up to a smart mare of Nicky Henderson's at Plumpton. With more progress expected, she can go one better for her in-form connections. A 7lb penalty will make life tougher for Jubilant after a comfortable success at Huntingdon last month, while Korus is another to note after a promising third on debut at Market Rasen.

JUBILANT opened his Rules account in ready fashion at Huntingdon 3 weeks ago and, with more to come, he should have enough to defy a penalty. Getaways Gift is a danger on the back of a good second at Plumpton and Korus can't be ruled out.

A powerful goer who will appreciate today's extra yardage, KORUS can oblige ahead of Getaways Gift and the penalised Jubilant.
