Marmara Star |

Remains unexposed and can go well if taking to the surface. Lightly raced filly; won on AW in January; makes turf debut after 169-day layoff. |

Vitalline |
(3) (7/1 +36%)7/1(+36%) | (3) Vitalline 7/1, Off 6 months, 40/1, bit below form sixth of 10 in handicap at Windsor (11.4f, good to firm) when last seen, doing too much too soon. Off another 132 days but well handicapped and one to note in the betting. Didn't run badly on seasonal debut in May but not seen again since; others look safer. |

City Escape |
(2) (7/2 -27%)7/2(-27%) | (2) City Escape 7/2, 9/1, won 8-runner handicap at this C&D (heavy) 30 days ago. Eyecover on 1st time. Good shout in hat-trick bid. Bang-in-form mare who has won her last two over C&D (heavy/soft); commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gavin |
(8) (8/1 +33%)8/1(+33%) | (8) Gavin 8/1, Respectable second of 6 in handicap hurdle (6/1) at Stratford (16.3f, good) 22 days ago. Modest on the Flat and work to do here. Triple hurdle winner in the spring; could be dangerous off basement mark back on the Flat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lhebayeb |
(6) (9/4 +10%)9/4(+10%) | (6) Lhebayeb 9/4, Latest win at Bath in August. 11/2, creditable third of 12 in handicap at Goodwood (11.2f, good to firm) 26 days ago, coming from further back than the front pair. Leading claims. Very consistent mare who won twice at Bath in August; likely contender again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Crossbeau |
(7) (12/1 +40%)12/1(+40%) | (7) Crossbeau 12/1, 14/1 and visored for 1st time, respectable fourth of 10 in handicap at Beverley (12.1f, soft) 61 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Ian McInnes. More needed to open account. Claimed for £6,000 after coming fourth in Beveley selling handicap in August; stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Star Of Mayo |
(5) (16/1 -45%)16/1(-45%) | (5) Star Of Mayo 16/1, AW winner. Last of 11 in handicap at Newbury (10f, good to firm, 50/1) 33 days ago, hanging badly left and eased. Has lost his way. AW novice winner in January but subsequent handicap form has been very disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Zuraig |
(1) (33/1 -65%)33/1(-65%) | (1) Zuraig 33/1, Leicester seller winner in May. 17½ lengths fifth of 6 to Gavin in handicap hurdle at this course (15.8f, good, 18/1) 115 days ago. Could do better back on the level after break. Won a soft-ground seller in May but has very mixed record for current stable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
CITY ESCAPE clearly enjoys the testing conditions at this venue, as evidenced by her second C&D triumph in the space of a month last time out. The six-year-old is only 3lb higher than that latest victory and a bold hat-trick bid is expected. Lhebayeb would have likely finished closer but for being denied a clear run when third at Goodwood in September and is feared most, ahead of the returning Marmara Star.
CITY ESCAPE has been in fine form in the mud here and has a good chance of landing a C&D hat-trick if things pan out in her favour once more (needs delivering late). Returning 3-y-o Marmara Star could be interesting if taking to turf, while Lhebayeb remains at the top of her game and has to be respected.
The most interesting runner is GAVIN, who has done well over hurdles since the spring and now attempts to exploit his lowly Flat mark.

Arizona Desert |
(1) (2/1 +33%)2/1(+33%) | (1) Arizona Desert 2/1, Lightly-raced maiden. First run since leaving Alice Haynes when excellent third of 11 in nursery at Newcastle (7.1f, 14/1) 12 days ago. Up 3 lb but that form has been franked so she's a player. Good third on recent nursery/stable debut (7f, AW); big player if trip/ground suits here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Chris's Mate |
(6) (3/1 -33%)3/1(-33%) | (6) Chris's Mate 3/1, Off 3 months and much improved when second of 6 in nursery at Yarmouth (8f, soft) 10 days ago. Weighted to go well despite taking a 2 lb rise. Improved form when clear second on recent nursery debut; only nudged up 2lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Makuri |
(3) (7/1 -27%)7/1(-27%) | (3) Makuri 7/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 125/1, sixth of 7 in maiden at Newmarket (7f, good to soft) 78 days ago. Makes handicap debut with lots more required. Achieved little in her qualifying runs but may get more competitive on this nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Storm Alice |
(2) (7/1 -56%)7/1(-56%) | (2) Storm Alice 7/1, Winner at Chepstow in September but below-par fourth of 6 in nursery at Yarmouth (8f, soft) 10 days ago. Can give a good account if shrugging off latest effort. Disappointing favourite on latest outing but has good claims if judged on Chepstow win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bramble Jelly |
(4) (10/1 +44%)10/1(+44%) | (4) Bramble Jelly 10/1, Modest form shown on her first two runs but only eighth of 9 in maiden at Sandown (7f, good to soft) 29 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Others appeal more. Upped in trip for today's nursery debut; her most encouraging run was on soft ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Weston Court |
(5) (15/2 -15%)15/2(-15%) | (5) Weston Court 15/2, Modest maiden. 18/1, good fourth of 10 in nursery at Bath (8f, good to firm) 18 days ago. Not ruled out off a 1 lb lower mark. Needs to prove himself on slow ground but ran pretty well on last month's nursery debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Arizona Desert is likely to prove popular after finishing a close-up third on her stable debut at Newcastle recently and a 3lb rise in the ratings shouldn't prevent the daughter of Sioux Nation going well again. However, she may be worth taking on now reverting to turf, more so given that the extra distance may take some getting in testing underfoot conditions. CHRIS'S MATE finished a half-length second on his nursery debut at Yarmouth last Thursday and gets the nod off only 2lb higher, with Weston Court looking best of the remainder.
ARIZONA DESERT made a fine start for Dominic Ffrench Davis when runner-up at Newcastle and with that form having been franked she is taken to go one better. Chris's Mate rates a big threat though on the back of his improved Yarmouth, with Weston Court and Storm Alice appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
There was nearly 5l back to the third when CHRIS'S MATE was second on his nursery debut, and he could still be well treated.

(5) (8/11 +0%)8/11(+0%) | (5) Tamfana 8/11, €20,000 Soldier Hollow filly. Dam made frame in sole start at 1m in France. Promising sort. Third of 8 in maiden at this C&D (soft, 9/1) on debut 17 days ago, just failing. Chance is there for all to see. Promising 3rd over C&D (soft) on last month's debut; more to come and holds strong claims. |

Battle Of Omdurman |
(1) (15/2 +25%)15/2(+25%) | (1) Battle Of Omdurman 15/2, 72,000 gns foal, 30,000 gns yearling, Churchill colt. Half-brother to 2-y-o 5f winner Eternal Class. Dam unraced, half-sister to smart winner up to 1¼m (stayed 1½m) Lady of Dubai. 8/1, green when eighth of 9 in novice at Kempton (8f) on debut 23 days ago. May do better. Modest form when eighth of nine at Kempton last month (1m); bred to do better in time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dubai Hills |
(2) (15/8 -25%)15/8(-25%) | (2) Dubai Hills 15/8, Fair maiden who ran up to best equipped with first-time blinkers when fourth in 15-runner sales' race at Newmarket (6f). Well held switched to AW next time but big shout on best form. Solid efforts on turf but stamina for this trip on soft ground has to be taken on trust. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Forest Hills |
(3) (40/1 +60%)40/1(+60%) | (3) Forest Hills 40/1, Mastercraftsman colt. Dam unraced out of smart 1¼m-1½m winner (should have stayed 2m) Clowance. 200/1, last of 12 in novice at Salisbury (8f, good to firm) on debut 24 days ago. 200-1, green and well beaten at Salisbury on last month's debut; hard to recommend. |

Lily's Secret |
(4) (80/1 -142%)80/1(-142%) | (4) Lily's Secret 80/1, Pearl Secret filly. Dam, maiden (best at 5.5f), half-sister to smart winner up to 6f Elnawin. 100/1, sixth of 7 in maiden at Bath (5.7f, firm) on debut 25 days ago. Up in trip. Can't be recommended after such a low-key debut at Bath last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Dubai Hills ran below-par on his all-weather debut at Southwell last month, although Amy Murphy's colt is expected to be involved here on the switch to turf. Nevertheless, TAMFANA created a good impression when looking somewhat of an unlucky loser on her third-placed debut over C&D last month and holds strong claims today. The remaining protagonists may prove more competitive once receiving a handicap mark, with Battle Of Omdurman one to note when faced with a stiffer test of stamina.
This looks a match between TAMFANA and Dubai Hills. The former only just failed to make a winning debut over C&D last month and is preferred to the more exposed Dubai Hills.
With her debut effort behind her, TAMFANA can get off the mark at the second attempt. Battle Of Omdurman may chase her home.

Back up in trip. Still unexposed and can follow up. Ready win on stable debut here last month (6f, good); up 6lb but may have more in the tank. |

Zoukster |
(3) (7/4 +36%)7/4(+36%) | (3) Zoukster 7/4, 3 wins from 7 runs this year. Latest win at Newbury in July. 11/2, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Windsor (8.1f, good to firm) 45 days ago. Respected. Progressive this summer; this is weaker than latest 1m fifth; may have even more to come. |

(5) (9/1 +36%)9/1(+36%) | (5) Melody Cher 9/1, Gone backwards since a promising yard debut/return, fifth of 7 in handicap at Kempton (8f). Off 144 days. Not progressing but promise on good to soft and she's down in the weights; check betting. |

Creative Style |
(2) (15/2 +17%)15/2(+17%) | (2) Creative Style 15/2, Winner at Wolverhampton in June. Eighth of 12 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW, 22/1) 15 days ago. 7f AW winner on stable debut; needs to bounce back from quiet run latest; ground a query. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A taking winner here on his first start for the Mark Loughnane stable, HEARTRATE can follow up with the rise in distance expected to suit. The three-year-old has handled soft ground in Ireland and, given the ease of that latest victory, he can defy a 6lb hike to the better of Zoukster, who arrives in excellent form after winning three of his last five starts. Creative Style may not have won since June but cannot be ruled out either.
HEARTRATE was well on top when making a winning handicap bow on yard debut after 4 months off here 17 days ago and appeals as the type to run up a sequence in low-grade handicaps. Zoukster continues in good heart after an excellent season so rates the main threat.
Heartrate should go well in his hat-trick bid but the progressive ZOUKSTER may have his measure this time.

Triple Nickle |
(8) (16/1 -14%)16/1(-14%) | (8) Triple Nickle 16/1, Dual winner on Flat in 2021 but off the track for 13 months. Needs to hit the ground running on her comeback from 1 lb out of the handicap. Seems versatile regarding trip/ground but wasn't at best when last seen last summer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Runner-up on his last two starts, including over C&D last month, DRAGONBALL PRINCE deserves a change in luck and he can get that on this occasion as he looks to open his account at the 13th time of asking. A taking winner off a 2lb lower mark on his penultimate outing at Wolverhampton, Percy Jones can give him the most to think about, along with Port Or Starboard and Triple Nickle.
TIN FANDANGO raced too freely after a break when ninth over C&D last time and is fancied to bounce back in style and bag a deserved first win of 2023. Dragonball Prince arrives in good order and is feared most as he bids to shed his maiden tag. Port Or Starboard appeals as the pick of the Bernard Llewellyn trio for place purposes.
After running very well in defeat on both starts last month, DRAGONBALL PRINCE (nap) is taken to go one better today.

Won from the front at Chepstow in June but others in this field look stronger. |

Others preferred. Didn't fire last time but won twice in August (once on heavy) and her mark is manageable. |

Sherood |
(3) (15/8 -25%)15/8(-25%) | (3) Sherood 15/8, Lightly-raced maiden. 11/4, took a step forward when third of 9 on handicap debut at Newmarket (8f, good) 64 days ago. Should improve again. Third in more competitive race than this when upped to 1m for handicap debut at Newmarket. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Zambezi Magic |
(2) (16/1 -129%)16/1(-129%) | (2) Zambezi Magic 16/1, Course winner. Offered little sent hurdling when seventh of 8 in novice hurdle (17/2) at this course (15.8f, soft) on NH debut. Best watched after 10 months off. Not seen since low-key hurdle debut in November but is very effective on slow ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Change Of Fortune |
(4) (17/2 -21%)17/2(-21%) | (4) Change Of Fortune 17/2, Runner-up at Windsor on penultimate outing and shaped as if still in form when fourth of 8 in handicap at this course (10f, heavy) 30 days ago. Respected. 0-14 but has posted two good efforts on slow ground since cheekpieces were added. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SHEROOD is the least exposed of these and shaped with plenty of promise on his handicap debut at Newmarket last time. Providing he handles the forecast soft ground today, he should run a huge race. Dual course winner Zambezi Magic is proven in the mud and it will be interesting to see if he attracts any market support on his return to action, while Change Of Fortune also merits consideration.
SHEROOD is less exposed than his opposition and he's fancied to take another step forward after an encouraging third at Newmarket on his handicap bow in July. Fellow 3yos Leitrim Rock and Khangai complete the shortlist, the former having shown more on heavy ground at Beverley last time, whilst the latter's best effort came over 10f here last month.
Dual course winner ZAMBEZI MAGIC has been off since last November but he excelled on heavy ground here last August.

Rajwaan |
(1) (15/2 -7%)15/2(-7%) | (1) Rajwaan 15/2, Lightly-raced winner. Career best when winning 8-runner nursery at Southwell (5f, 11/8), bit in hand. Off 11 months. First run for yard after leaving Andrew Balding. Not the easiest to way up but has some potential if he's tuned up. Makes stable debut after 11-month absence but still low mileage and conditions should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fair And Square |
(7) (16/1 +20%)16/1(+20%) | (7) Fair And Square 16/1, One win from 42 Flat runs. Winner at Bath in August. Eighth of 11 in handicap at Bath (5.7f, firm, 11/1) 25 days ago, going off too hard. Not seen to best effect last time and could bounce back. 13lb rise for his Bath win (at the 41st attempt) looks severe; hard to recommend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ange De L'amour |
(2) (17/2 -89%)17/2(-89%) | (2) Ange De L'amour 17/2, 14/1, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Bath (5f, firm) 25 days ago. Clearly retains plenty of ability and could feature if he goes the right way from that reappearance. Solid effort at Bath on her return but something to prove on ground slower than good. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SHESADABBER was disappointing on the all-weather at Southwell last time but could bounce back to form on her turf return. She won at Bath and Catterick in the month of August, and forecast soft ground today should pose no problems. Past C&D winner Willingly cuts back in distance after showing plenty of speed over 6f at Hamilton recently and she makes plenty of appeal, while Ange De L'Amour is entitled to improve for her comeback third at Bath.
Although not much of a threat when second on debut for a new yard at Brighton last time, HEY MR is on a handy mark and this is a thin race, so he gets the nod over Willingly who ran with credit when third at Hamilton 6 days ago. Ange de L'Amour is also of interest.
Shesadabber has been in good form for David Evans but WILLINGLY is marginally preferred this time.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
