![]() Mountain Mike |
(5) 4/9(+70%) | (5) Mountain Mike 4/9, Showed encouragement when second only start in bumpers and, following 8 months off, again shaped well when second of 10 in a maiden hurdle here (20f) 26 days ago, headed run-in but staying on. Open to improvement with his stamina now tested further. Leading claims. 2nd in a point, a bumper and a 2m4f Ffos Las maiden hurdle; very strong contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Libre De Choeur |
(4) 5/2(-33%) | (4) Libre De Choeur 5/2, Finished third on sole start in points and posted a fairly promising first effort under Rules when third in 21f novice hurdle (16/1) at Warwick 8 weeks ago. Entitled to progress and considered. 3rd in a point and 2m5f Warwick maiden; a promising start and he's a leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Pyleigh Master |
(9) 11/1(+8%) | (9) Pyleigh Master 11/1, Point bumper winner who offered something to work on sent hurdling after 9 months off when fifth of 14 in an Exeter maiden (16.7f) 24 days ago. Up in trip and could do with learning to settle (also pulled hard in bumper when trained by owner). Amateur ridden; should be capable of a lot better but badly needs to settle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Fat Faced Columbo |
(2) 16/1(-45%) | (2) Fat Faced Columbo 16/1, €22,000 3-y-o, €20,000 4-y-o, Mahler gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler Tough Trade and fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser Grand Turina. Runner-up completed start in Irish points (Nov 10). Market should guide on Rules/hurdles bow. Second in an Irish maiden point and sold for 20,000euros later in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Woodythewoodpecker |
(11) 25/1(-56%) | (11) Woodythewoodpecker 25/1, Bred to be a stayer and shaped in kind when fourth on bumper debut at Southwell (15.8f) in May. Similarly never figured when fifth of 7 on return in a bumper here 26 days ago but this increase in trip promises to suit now hurdling. Ran in bumpers; needs much better to make a winning hurdle debut but he is well related. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Clearisthewater |
(1) 25/1(-257%) | (1) Clearisthewater 25/1, Winning Irish pointer. No great shakes in bumpers but showed an aptitude for hurdling when second in 12-runner novice hurdle at Plumpton (15.8f) in December. Appeals as the type who will be suited by this increase in trip. Never-nearer second at 125-1 in novice hurdle at Plumpton (2m, good to soft) in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ferando |
(3) 100/1(-100%) | (3) Ferando 100/1, Fetched €90,000 as a 3-y-o but proved weak in betting and ultimately showed little when pulled up in a Newbury maiden hurdle for Nicky Henderson in November. Looks best watched on the back of that and since switched yards. Pulled up at Newbury (2m; 7-1) in November; left Nicky Henderson for £15,000 16 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Nil Vert |
(6) 125/1(-213%) | (6) Nil Vert 125/1, €13,000 3-y-o, Cokoriko gelding. Half-brother to 2m hurdle winner Nest Love. One to note in the betting for clues on debut with yard also responsible for Woodythewoodpecker. 13,000euros 3yo; probably one for a later stage but worth a market check; stable runs two. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Pink Eyed Pancho |
(7) 250/1(-25%) | (7) Pink Eyed Pancho 250/1, Placed in a point bumper but offered little in an Aintree bumper on Rules debut in May and similar story starting out over hurdles at Taunton last month, jumping ponderously and pulled up before 4 out. Can only be watched. Failed to beat a rival in bumper at Aintree (good) or maiden hurdle at Taunton (2m, soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Poete Ardent |
(8) 250/1(-25%) | (8) Poete Ardent 250/1, Little promise in maiden/novice hurdles in recent months. Huge odds when showing little over about 2m5f at Warwick and Hereford. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MOUNTAIN MIKE shaped with plenty of promise when a neck second on his hurdles bow over 2m4f at this venue last month and he makes plenty of appeal now upped in trip. The six-year-old might only need to find minimal improvement in order to shed his maiden tag and he edges the vote over Libre De Choeur. The Choeur Du Nord gelding cannot be taken lightly after his third-placed Rules bow at Warwick in December, while Pyleigh Master may fare best of the remainder.
MOUNTAIN MIKE confirmed the positives of his bumper debut second in the spring when filling the same spot on hurdles bow here 26 days ago and, with further progress in the offing now upped further in trip, he can come out on top. Libre de Choeur is feared most ahead of Clearisthewater.
Preference is for MOUNTAIN MIKE who looks particularly solid to run well judged on his battling second over 2m4f on soft ground here.

![]() Followango |
(3) 13/8(+70%) | (3) Followango 13/8, Bumper winner who is yet to score over hurdles but was placed again when runner-up in mares' handicap at this course (23.9f, heavy) in December. Rare below-par effort in maiden here (20f) last time, though she appeals as the type to bounce back quickly. Made it 0-8 over hurdles when below par here last month but claims on previous form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Sunset Marquesa |
(2) 13/8(+46%) | (2) Sunset Marquesa 13/8, Bumper winner who improved from hurdling debut when successful in mares' maiden at Wincanton in November. Lesser effort when sixth in handicap at Newbury 40 days ago, but she's worth another chance to build on promise of her first 2 starts over hurdles. Wincanton maiden winner; soundly beaten on h'cap debut but could bounce back in tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Clotilda |
(4) 7/2(-56%) | (4) Clotilda 7/2, Fair juvenile hurdler in France who a winning start for Paul Nicholls at Huntingdon in December. Wasn't able to build on that effort when fourth of 9 at Taunton 3 weeks later, but she remains capable of better given her French form. Major player. Won on British debut, then good to soft ground maybe didn't suit at Taunton; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Come On Nia |
(1) 9/1(-64%) | (1) Come On Nia 9/1, Improved away from the mud when winning back-to-back handicaps early in the current campaign and, making third start back from her summer break, was a good second in mares' novice at Warwick (21f, soft) in December. Will need to find more again, though. Carries double penalty, which was also the case when second at Warwick latest; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CLOTILDA ran below par when only fourth at Taunton in December, but she is arguably best judged on her victory at Huntingdon prior to that. Paul Nicholls' four-year-old sets the standard with a rating of 122 and looks well placed to get her head back in front. Sunset Marquesa sports a first-time tongue-tie after finishing sixth in a handicap at Newbury and should give a good account back in novice company. Come On Nia can beat Followango home for third.
CLOTILDA opened her account at the first time of asking for Paul Nicholls at Huntingdon in December, form boosted by the runner-up winning his next start, so she is worth forgiving a lesser effort last time given the level she had run to in France. The 4-y-o is preferred to Sunset Marquesa, who could also bounce back given her previous promise.
With the return to deeper ground a possible plus, the 4yo CLOTILDA is taken to bounce back with a win. Followango is feared most.

![]() Blackacre |
(13) 16/5(+60%) | (13) Blackacre 16/5, Still a maiden but he posted a very good third of 10 in handicap chase at Taunton (26.3f, good to soft) 38 days ago. A likely player despite being 1 lb "wrong" in the weights. Placed over fences last two starts; best hurdles result was over 3m2f on heavy going. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Shady B |
(5) 9/2(-13%) | (5) Shady B 9/2, Promising sort who resumed from 10 months off with a good third of 11 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (24f, heavy) 37 days ago, fading from the last. Since had a wind op. Expected to be bang there. Wind surgery preceded two good runs last March; another wind operation since reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() I See The Sea |
(3) 7/1(-17%) | (3) I See The Sea 7/1, Failed to build on chasing debut third when pulled up in handicap chase at Exeter (24.2f, heavy) 36 days ago. Well supoorted there so hes worth another chance with few miles on the clock. Respectable third on seasonal/chase debut; bad mistake when he flopped on New Year's Day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Hermes Du Gouet |
(1) 15/2(+46%) | (1) Hermes Du Gouet 15/2, Point/hurdles winner and best effort over fences last season when second of 4 in handicap chase at Fontwell (26f, heavy) last March. Ran poorly all 3 starts this term, however, so plenty to prove now. Performed poorly in handicap chases this season, blinkered on last two outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Dreams Of Diamonds |
(8) 9/1(-64%) | (8) Dreams Of Diamonds 9/1, Tongue strap/cheekpieces on for 1st time when a good third of 10 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (24f, heavy) 48 days ago. Can build on that run so needs considering. 409 days off before he ran well to be third of ten at Uttoxeter (3m, soft) in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Abbeyhill |
(9) 11/1(-38%) | (9) Abbeyhill 11/1, Dual hurdles scorer around 3m last term. Best run this season when fitted with cheekpieces and third of 8 in handicap chase at Market Rasen (23.9f, good to soft) 42 days ago. Possibilities. Cheekpieces did see an upturn when third at Market Rasen last time; needs to build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Try The Money |
(12) 12/1(+14%) | (12) Try The Money 12/1, Maiden hurdler who shaped with encouragement sent chasing when fourth over C&D in November. Has twice run poorly since however so needs to get back on track. 0-9; encouraging seasonal/chase debut (C&D) but backward steps on his two starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Frankie Roy |
(6) 12/1(+64%) | (6) Frankie Roy 12/1, Modest maiden hurdler. Tongue strap on for 1st time when a fair sixth of 13 in novice hurdle here over 2 years ago. Makes his chase debut now with his fitness to prove. 0-4 in Irish points and soundly beaten here in his three hurdle races; off 745 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Back Yourself |
(4) 16/1(-45%) | (4) Back Yourself 16/1, A faiir hurdles winner in 2023 but only tiwice raced since and pulled up in handicap hurdle at Exeter (21.6f, soft) 49 days ago. Goes back chasing with blinkers reached for and something to prove. Showed little when back over hurdles in December after 425 days off; different headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Bobmahley |
(2) 16/1(-33%) | (2) Bobmahley 16/1, A C&D scorer in 2022/23. Only twice raced since and not disgraced when third of 10 in handicap chase here (25.3f, heavy) 49 days ago. No forlorn hope. Absent 614 days before two low-key runs this season; way behind the front two last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() All Under Control |
(7) 18/1(+10%) | (7) All Under Control 18/1, Improved for current yard when landing 2m6f handicap hurdle at Fontwell in December. Pulled up in handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (23.3f, heavy) 37 days ago though so lots more needed now going over fences. Treated for ulcers prior to Fontwell win (2m6f, soft); struggled badly either side of that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Dysania |
(11) 20/1(-167%) | (11) Dysania 20/1, Unreliable type but he posted a good second of 9 in handicap chase at Southwell (24.3f, heavy) 36 days ago. Needs to back it up now. 1-22; easily best result this term was his second at Southwell (3m, soft) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Esperti |
(10) 33/1(+0%) | (10) Esperti 33/1, Little impact over hurdles for current yard and hasn't fared any better over fences on his last 4 starts, well-held fourth of 10 in 25f handicap here last time. Others appeal more. Possibly stretched by the extended 3m1f on heavy here last time but others look more solid. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
DYSANIA outran his big odds when filling the runner-up spot in this grade at Southwell last month. With Dylan Johnston claiming a handy 3lb this time around, he may be the one to beat. Shady B made the frame at Uttoxeter on New Year's Eve and has since had a wind operation, so he has to be respected off a 1lb lower mark. Previous C&D winner Bobmahley is another to note.
SHADY B shaped well on his return from an absence when third at Uttoxter last time (form been franked) so is fancied to quickly resume winning ways off a 1 lb lower mark here. Blackacre is 1 lb out of the handicap but still feared most on the back of a very good Taunton third. Dreams Of Diamonds and Abbeyhill both need factoring in too.
This contains a major lack of solid options and consequently might present bottomweight BLACKACRE with his chance to get off the mark.

![]() A Moments Madness |
(4) 85/40(+6%) | (4) A Moments Madness 85/40, Runner-up sole start in Irish points and fair form when reaching the frame in novice hurdles at Wetherby and Ffos Las. Fast-tracked to chasing for handicap debut and made an encouraging start when fourth at Newcastle 3 weeks ago. Should improve and needs considering. Improved form on chase debut last time and this unexposed 6yo looks set for a big run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Mumbles |
(8) 11/4(+68%) | (8) Mumbles 11/4, Went the right way over hurdles last term, gaining a second victory at Fontwell in March. Started off well in this sphere with in-frame efforts here and Lingfield but was beaten before trip was an issue here since. Needs to bounce back. Chance if a lacklustre latest run can be forgiven. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Alcedo |
(1) 5/1(-82%) | (1) Alcedo 5/1, Lightly-raced bumper/hurdles winner who made a low-key start over fences at Exeter after 11 months off. However, is a chaser on looks and from a yard that excels with such types, so no surprise if he were to leave that run well behind. Might have come on markedly since remote last of four finishers on chase/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Rivers Corner |
(2) 6/1(+14%) | (2) Rivers Corner 6/1, Back-to-back winner over hurdles for Syd Hosie this time last year. Low-key start back with this yard at Wincanton last month and now goes chasing. Did well when upped to 3m in the mud last term; more shaky claims this season; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Galassian |
(3) 8/1(-45%) | (3) Galassian 8/1, Winning pointer/lightly-raced hurdler who showed much improved form to land Bangor maiden hurdle. Failed to complete through no fault of his own on chase/handicap bow (brought down fourth). Found class 3 at Warwick too competitive since but should make an impact here. Brought down early on handicap/chase debut and tailed off on his recent second attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Tilly Toughnut |
(7) 12/1(-41%) | (7) Tilly Toughnut 12/1, Much improved when making a successful handicap hurdle debut at Exeter a year ago. However, wasn't able to repeat that effort in her 2 subsequent outings that season and made a discouraging debut in this sphere after 9 months off at Hereford 3 weeks ago. 8l win at Exeter (2m, heavy) last February; soundly beaten three runs since, chase latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gris Majeur |
(5) 28/1(+15%) | (5) Gris Majeur 28/1, Point/bumper winner who capitalised on falling mark when registering a third career success over hurdles at Hereford in October. Not in same form since, however, including both starts over fences. Needs a second look back up in trip today with the headgear (tried latest start) removed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Micro Millions |
(6) 40/1(-21%) | (6) Micro Millions 40/1, £40,000 buy after winning an Irish point and made the frame 3 times over hurdles at up to 25f for Dan Skelton last term. However, low-key efforts in 2 chase tries for this yard this season and has it to prove now with headgear back on. Big odds sent handicapping/chasing by new yard this term; cheekpieces (off this term) back. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Venetia Williams has her string in fine form at present, and ALCEDO gets the vote to land the spoils. He posted a low-key effort when fourth on his seasonal/chase debut over 2m3f at Exeter last month, but this winning hurdler looks likely to play a starring role now eased 3lb in slightly calmer waters. It would be no surprise if Rivers Corner improved over fences and he could emerge as the main danger to the selection stepping back in trip for his chasing bow, while the unexposed A Moments Madness is also noteworthy.
A MOMENTS MADNESS made an encouraging start over fences when fourth on his handicap bow at Newcastle 3 weeks ago and gets the vote over Alcedo, who's expected to leave his chase debut behind. Things haven't gone to plan for Galassian in this sphere but he could still emerge as a player here.
Far and away the most positive run last time came from A MOMENTS MADNESS (nap) on his chase debut and he's also the most lightly raced.

![]() Casual Observer |
(4) 6/4(+45%) | (4) Casual Observer 6/4, Shaped better than the result when fifth of 11 on 21f Haydock handicap debut on reappearance 19 days ago, deserving credit for getting back in contention after meeting some trouble. Leading claims with improvement on the cards. Not disgraced on handicap/seasonal debut and might have come on markedly since that run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Double Click |
(3) 11/4(+21%) | (3) Double Click 11/4, Second course success when scoring by 10 lengths over this trip on heavy ground under Will Featherstone last month. Likely to remain competitive after an 8 lb rise. First go over 2m4f when he justified favouritism by 10l here (soft) on latest run; up 8lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Walkinthewoods |
(8) 4/1(+75%) | (8) Walkinthewoods 4/1, Former C&D winner who took a step back in the right direction from a reduced mark when seventh of 11 over C&D last month but needs to build on that now with cheekpieces added. C&D winner; down the weights and a case can be made for him in first-time headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gardener |
(1) 11/2(+50%) | (1) Gardener 11/2, Fairly useful dual winning chaser for this yard last season. Operating below that level over hurdles this season but latest Uttoxeter third was a bit better and he has handicapping scope if he can build on that. Not proven beyond 2m (tried 2m4f once last April) but some hope was renewed last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Boston Joe |
(5) 11/1(-214%) | (5) Boston Joe 11/1, Has won a pair of 2m handicap chases here this season. Ran well back hurdling when second of 18 at Chepstow (19.5f, good to soft) in November but he was 6 lb for it. Chase win before second of 18 over hurdles at Chepstow (2m4f) latest; 5lb higher today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Throne Hall |
(6) 50/1(-100%) | (6) Throne Hall 50/1, Useful sort at his best on Flat and fairly useful hurdler. However, he was very disappointing on the Flat in Britain at the end of 2024 and it remains to be seen whether a return to hurdling perks him back up., Hurdle win in September came in a three-runner race in Sweden; out of sorts on the Flat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Presenting Nelly |
(7) 80/1(-21%) | (7) Presenting Nelly 80/1, Disappointing in 3 outings since a promising reappearance, the latest one for this new stable. Can only be watched. In poor form for Dan Skelton in the autumn; tailed off over C&D last month when next seen. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
KNEAD A WIN arrives on the back of a solid placed effort over 2m here last month and, stepping up in trip sporting a tongue-tie for the first time, he gets the nod to make his handicap debut a winning one. Double Click bolted up over this track and trip recently and he must enter calculations off 8lb higher. The Chepstow runner-up Boston Joe is also noteworthy, although more will be required to score off this career-high mark.
It's perhaps best to focus on unexposed pair CASUAL OBSERVER and Knead A Win, with preference for the former on the back of his promising reappearance and handicap debut at Haydock. Last month's C&D winner Double Click may prove best of the rest.
Double Click, Boston Joe and Casual Observer are players but this may fall to upped-in-trip handicap debutant KNEAD A WIN.

![]() Angels Breath |
(2) 6/4(+25%) | (2) Angels Breath 6/4, Ended last season with a poor effort in a handicap hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival but, having warmed up with a run between the flags in December, he made a winning reappearance for new yard back chasing in a Taunton hunter (21.7f, soft) last month. Should be in the mix. Pretty useful last term; Taunton win (2m6f, soft) last month on first run in hunter chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Shearer |
(1) 11/4(-22%) | (1) Shearer 11/4, Fairly useful handicap hurdler who took well to fences in 2023, winning small-field novice handicaps at Ludlow and Aintree in May/June of that year. Subsequent absence is naturally a concern but his claims on this hunter debut are otherwise very appealing. Useful form to win two handicap chases in minuscule fields in May/June 2023; off since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Acey Milan |
(4) 10/3(+33%) | (4) Acey Milan 10/3, Fairly useful chaser in his pomp and while it's been around 2 years since his latest appearance under Rules, he has won 3 times between the flags since and went close when returning to action in that sphere last month. Likely player with William Biddick booked. Pretty useful at his best jumping under rules; very nearly made it 4-4 in points since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Caldwell Diamond |
(5) 11/1(+8%) | (5) Caldwell Diamond 11/1, Fairyhouse maiden hurdle winner for Gordon Elliot in November 2022 but no show in 3 subsequent starts under Rules and while he was a wider-margin point winner last spring, others make more appeal on this occasion. Ex-Gordon Elliott; £1,200 buy in 2023; won a British point (2m4f, heavy) last April by 15l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Chilinlikeavillain |
(6) 14/1(+13%) | (6) Chilinlikeavillain 14/1, Landed a Southwell maiden hurdle in March 2023 but well held next 2 starts and probably worth taking on here, for all that his wellbeing is not in doubt following a recent win between the flags. Light rules career for Dan Skelton; scored 11 days ago at fourth attempt in British points. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Drop Flight |
(3) 16/1(+84%) | (3) Drop Flight 16/1, Landed 5-runner hunter at Exeter last March but more miss than hit since and it's probably best to look elsewhere. Has won a hunter chase (3m, heavy); hurdle campaign for Dan Skelton has not been a success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Shang Tang |
(7) 50/1(+50%) | (7) Shang Tang 50/1, Fairly useful chaser on his day but pulled up on latest start in this sphere at Stratford last May and also well beaten in a point back from a break in December. He did not do enough in last year's hunter-chase campaign to suggest he's a player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The formerly smart Shearer tops ratings here and, provided he is ready to roll after a prolonged absence, he could go well. That said, ANGELS BREATH is narrowly preferred. He was last seen scoring readily over this trip at Taunton last month and he has the class to become a force to be reckoned with in this division. Acey Milan is also one for the shortlist.
SHEARER achieved a pretty useful level of form over hurdles and made a seamless transition to fences back in 2023. He still has low mileage overall for a horse of his age and, provided all is well following 20 months off, he could prove a tough nut to crack in his bid to make it 3-3 over the larger obstacles. Acey Milan gets the nod for forecast purposes, albeit only marginally as Angels Breath is also a very viable candidate for that role.
Acey Milan, Caldwell Diamond and Shearer have noteworthy past form but ANGELS BREATH has shown recently what he can do.
Ths is the racecard key.
