Doc Mccoy |
(1) (4/6 +0%)4/6(+0%) | (1) Doc Mccoy 4/6, Impressive winner on sole start in points and displayed fairly useful form when placed all 3 outings in bumpers last season. Upped in trip for hurdles debut and that seems sure to suit on pedigree. Probably the one to beat. Clear pick on bumper form, and point win came at today's trip (good to soft); player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kilbarry Hill |
(2) (9/4 -20%)9/4(-20%) | (2) Kilbarry Hill 9/4, £38,000 buy after finishing runner-up twice from 5 starts in Irish points. His yard does very well here, including winning this in 2020 and 2021. Close second on last Irish point start (3m, soft); smart or better hurdlers in pedigree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mighty Duchess |
(4) (18/1 -50%)18/1(-50%) | (4) Mighty Duchess 18/1, Runner-up in a point but only minor promise in a couple of bumpers last spring. Steps up in trip for hurdle debut after a 6-month break. Irish point winner last December before limited impression in bumpers; hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grangeclare North |
(3) (20/1 -25%)20/1(-25%) | (3) Grangeclare North 20/1, Related to winners but only modest form when third twice from 4 starts in bumpers last season. Switches to hurdles back from 6 months off. Sister to Grangeclare West (won 2m4f maiden on hurdling bow); needs to race more sparingly. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Point-to-point winner DOC MCCOY showed a solid level of form in bumpers last season and Jamie Snowden's gelding appears to have every chance of making a winning start over timber. Kilbarry Hill was narrowly denied between the flags at Dromahane in April and might be the chief threat, while Grangeclare North and Mighty Duchess look set to fight out third place.
DOC MCCOY showed enough in bumpers to suggest he can pick up a race or two over hurdles and is preferred to Olly Murphy's Irish point recruit Kilbarry Hill.
The best of these in bumpers, and already a 2m4f winner to boot, DOC MCCOY gets the nod over ex-Irish pointer Kilbarry Hill.

Ferrybridge |
(1) (5/1 +23%)5/1(+23%) | (1) Ferrybridge 5/1, Didn't show much for Michael Hourigan in Ireland but shaped with greater promise when fourth in a 13-runner handicap at Sedgefield (16.8f, good to soft) on debut for new connections earlier this month. Did too much too soon at Exeter last week, so is better judged on stable debut form. Ex-Irish; beaten 13l and 19l in two handicaps for this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wise Guy |
(5) (5/1 +17%)5/1(+17%) | (5) Wise Guy 5/1, Point winner who has shaped with some promise in a Bangor bumper/maiden hurdle 6 months apart. Entitled to do better and stable doing very well with its runners at this track. Won a point bumper in March; behind a good horse when third on hurdling debut at Bangor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jack The Savage |
(2) (7/1 -100%)7/1(-100%) | (2) Jack The Savage 7/1, Bumper winner who posted an encouraging third on hurdles bow at Plumpton in February. Hasn't built on that since though, showing signs of temperament prior to unseating his rider on his Worcester handicap debut in August. Has had a breathing op since. Hasn't progressed over hurdles, with his keen-going tendencies a drawback. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sun Festival |
(3) (8/1 +11%)8/1(+11%) | (3) Sun Festival 8/1, Dam half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 2½m) Deor. Fair on Flat (stays 11f), has won 3 times in 2023, good second last time. Can make presence felt if taking to this new discipline. Engaged 3.55 Brighton Thursday. Quite high mileage on the Flat with a strike-rate of 4-35; has had a good year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Western Soldier |
(4) (11/10 +0%)11/10(+0%) | (4) Western Soldier 11/10, Useful on Flat in Germany (stays 9f), racking up an impressive 5-timer towards the back end of last year. Failed to transfer that level of form over to hurdles at the first attempt at Sedgefield last week but still went close and ought to improve. Beaten fav on hurdling debut but given Flat ability he should be capable of better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
WESTERN SOLDIER was Group 3-placed on the Flat in Germany and he made a promising start to life over hurdles when a close-up third at Sedgefield nine days ago. Any progression can see the five-year-old open his account in this sphere, possibly at the main expense of Wise Guy. Jack The Savage sets the standard with an official rating of 103 and he might fare better having undergone wind surgery last month.
WESTERN SOLDIER ran to barely a fair level when a close third on his Sedgefield hurdling debut last week, but he ought to prove capable of much better judged on his useful Flat form and is taken to strike at the second time of asking in this sphere. Stuart Edmunds' runners are always worth a second look at this track and Wise Guy is second choice having shown promise on both his Rules starts to date.
It's worth giving another chance to WESTERN SOLDIER despite him coming up short in an ordinary maiden at Sedgefield.

Theonlywayiswessex |
(2) (3/1 +0%)3/1(+0%) | (2) Theonlywayiswessex 3/1, Dual AW Flat winner for this yard earlier in the year. Lightly raced over hurdles and posted a good second of 6 in handicap hurdle at Bangor (16.7f, good) 45 days ago. Much respected on his chase debut. Almost got up at Bangor latest and has done well here before; player on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Heros De Moutiers |
(3) (9/2 +10%)9/2(+10%) | (3) Heros De Moutiers 9/2, Still a maiden and below form fourth of 9 in handicap chase at Bangor (17.4f, soft) 16 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time now. Race of this nature in him, though may not want a lot of rain; first-time blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Berliet Express |
(4) (11/2 -10%)11/2(-10%) | (4) Berliet Express 11/2, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. 7/2, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap chase at Ballinrobe (17f, good to soft) 35 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Philip Rothwell. Holds good form claims. 0-19 over fences, though has completed 17 of those starts; vulnerable to any improver. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gone In Sixty |
(5) (11/8 +8%)11/8(+8%) | (5) Gone In Sixty 11/8, Remains a maiden but he is going the right way over fences, just failing when second of 4 in handicap chase at Fontwell (17.8f, good) 14 days ago. Big shout. Head second at Fontwell latest (2m2f, good); up 3lb but decent chance barring lots of rain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Champagne Town |
(1) (18/1 +28%)18/1(+28%) | (1) Champagne Town 18/1, Pulled up in handicap hurdle (14/1) at Huntingdon (19.6f, good to firm) 10 days ago. Goes chasing with lots to prove. Disappointing since wind surgery (raced freely again latest); overlooked on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Overtougeorge |
(6) (50/1 -52%)50/1(-52%) | (6) Overtougeorge 50/1, Pulled up in handicap chase at Southwell (20.4f, good, 28/1) 158 days ago. Has work to do. Yet to convince over fences; jumping didn't hold up on May's return from 11 months out. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GONE IN SIXTY took another step forward when a narrow second at Fontwell a fortnight ago and the son of Sixties Icon would not need much more improvement to get on the scoresheet here. Theonlywayiswessex switches to chasing having posted a couple of respectable efforts over hurdles recently. He's considered along with Heros De Moutiers, while Berliet Express has the ability to feature.
Alex Hales's progressive chaser GONE IN SIXTY was just edged out at Fontwell last time and can go one better now at the chief expense of Berliet Express, who starts out for Jake Coulson on a handy-looking mark. Theonlywayiswessex also needs considering on his chase debut.
Second in the novice hurdle on this card last year, THEONLYWAYISWESSEX is chanced on chasing debut ahead of Berliet Express.

My Gift To You |
(4) (3/1 +14%)3/1(+14%) | (4) My Gift To You 3/1, Form has taken off since leaving Paul Webber, winning handicap hurdle and chases around 2½m in recent months. Good efforts the last twice and may not have finishing improving, so he's worthy of interest. Dual 2m4f winner for this yard in the summer, and return to that trip appears wise; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
King Otis |
(8) (6/1 +0%)6/1(+0%) | (8) King Otis 6/1, Modest maiden hurdler who lost his form last season but has joined a shrewd up-and-coming stable and Brian Hughes is booked, so he's very much one to note back from a break. Out of form for another yard this spring/summer; Brian Hughes booked for this stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Coilrock |
(11) (8/1 +0%)8/1(+0%) | (11) Coilrock 8/1, Point winner but very little encouragement to date under Rules. Had running left when saddle slipped on handicap debut latest; up in trip, and hood added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Boleyn Boy |
(3) (9/1 +0%)9/1(+0%) | (3) Boleyn Boy 9/1, Back in form of late and shaped like the trip stretched him when third at this course 4 months ago. Drop back to this distance is helpful, so he's not easily dismissed. Near-5l third over further here when last seen in June (good); chance off unchanged mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Awesome Foursome |
(1) (10/3 -33%)10/3(-33%) | (1) Awesome Foursome 10/3, 5/1, career best when winning 12-runner handicap hurdle at Perth (20.2f, heavy) 23 days ago. Still lightly raced and stable is flying, so worth a chance to go in again. Easy win on slow ground at Perth latest (2m4f); up 7lb but much reason to be confident. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Rolling River |
(5) (14/1 -17%)14/1(-17%) | (5) Rolling River 14/1, Bumper winner who hasn't achieved the same level over hurdles but took a small step forward when third over C&D 7 months ago. Could make his presence felt if tuned up. Third on C&D handicap debut in March, albeit beaten 15l; absent since; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Steven Seagull |
(9) (16/1 +0%)16/1(+0%) | (9) Steven Seagull 16/1, Modest maiden on the Flat and not even at that level over hurdles so far, although his latest run at Fontwell offered more encouragement. Fair fourth despite 27lb out of the weights on recent handicap debut; may do better again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dandy Maestro |
(10) (16/1 +0%)16/1(+0%) | (10) Dandy Maestro 16/1, Fairly useful 1m Flat winner for this yard (below form last time). Little encouragement over hurdles but opening handicap mark is potentially lenient. Multiple 1m Flat winner; no impact over hurdles yet, but mark in line with his best effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Courtney Silver |
(2) (20/1 -43%)20/1(-43%) | (2) Courtney Silver 20/1, Modest form at best in bumpers and matched that form when causing a surprise in 8-runner novice at Fontwell in August. Creditable run there under a penalty but handicapper has taken no chances with opening mark. Mark just okay judged on form of surprise Fontwell maiden win; longer trip a concern. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Smart Connection |
(6) (28/1 -40%)28/1(-40%) | (6) Smart Connection 28/1, Fair at best on Flat for Alice Haynes and bounced back from out of the blue to land a 9-runner handicap hurdle at Cartmel 53 days ago. Uncertain to be in the same form, however. Fair 2lb rise for Cartmel win latest (2m6f, good to soft); may enjoy this course as much. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
AWESOME FOURSOME landed a breakthrough success on heavy ground at Perth last month. The six-year-old is hard to oppose off only 7lb higher in the ratings, with his amateur jockey negating the rise with his allowance. My Gift To You has been in fine fettle since joining the James Owen yard and should give another good account of himself, while any market support for his stablemate King Otis would be interesting with Brian Hughes booked.
AWESOME FOURSOME added to his stable's good recent spell when landing a 12--runner handicap at Perth recently and he may well be up to overcoming a rise. My Gift To You can continue his good start for his current yard and his stablemate King Otis is a notable one on debut for the yard.
Proven effectiveness on slow ground may turn out to be key for AWESOME FOURSOME (nap) should the rain really set in, and he's preferred

Neon Moon |
(5) (4/1 +0%)4/1(+0%) | (5) Neon Moon 4/1, Progressive over hurdles, winning 3 times, and took well to fences last season without winning. Off 6 months. Respected. Excuses on final run and ran well in some respected handicaps last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tweed Skirt |
(2) (7/2 +0%)7/2(+0%) | (2) Tweed Skirt 7/2, Fair bumper/hurdles winner who has taken off since switched to chasing, scoring in handicaps at Kempton and Wincanton. Good third in listed mares chase at Huntingdon and not disgraced in a couple of Grade 2s since. Won on return last season so likely player back down in class. Had a solid first season over fences at 2m4f and she could improve for this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Arizona Cardinal |
(4) (10/3 +0%)10/3(+0%) | (4) Arizona Cardinal 10/3, Made a successful debut over fences after a wind operation in 2½m handicap at Bangor on return last season. Back to form when third at Southwell before resuming winning ways at Uttoxeter final start in May. Needs considering. Good value for his 3m handicap win at Uttoxeter and 4lb rise could have been worse. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Swapped |
(7) (11/2 +0%)11/2(+0%) | (7) Swapped 11/2, Bumper winner who didn't progress over hurdles but has sprouted wings since switched to fences, completing the hat-trick with a commanding performance on debut for this yard at Southwell (25.8f, good to firm) last month. Good second there since and remains of interest. Came up short in his bid for a four-timer; might be on a toughish mark now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brief Times |
(1) (13/2 -30%)13/2(-30%) | (1) Brief Times 13/2, Often let down by his jumping but has transformed by a step up to 3m this summer, making all at Southwell and Bangor. Good third at Worcester next time and can't discount in current mood. In form this summer but well held off this career-high mark at Worcester last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hatcher |
(6) (14/1 +13%)14/1(+13%) | (6) Hatcher 14/1, Only narrowly denied here (21.2f) in June but isn't the easiest to win with nowadays and was below par next 2 starts. Has become hard to win with and this will be his first run beyond 2m5f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Yccs Portocervo |
(3) (16/1 -60%)16/1(-60%) | (3) Yccs Portocervo 16/1, Finally took advantage of a much-reduced mark returning from 7 months off at Uttoxeter in May and followed up there following month. Hit with a further 7 lb rise so career best probably required now back from another break. Raised 13lb for his two Uttoxeter wins and he can struggle for form elsewhere. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ARIZONA CARDINAL has unlocked some improvement since being switched back to 3m in April and the son of Kayf Tara could take some stopping off only 4lb higher than his Uttoxeter triumph the following month. The hat-trick seeking Yccs Portocervo has proved a different proposition since his seasonal debut in May and cannot be ruled out on his return from a 134-day break. Tweed Skirt and Brief Times could also play a part in proceedings.
Claims can be made for most with the vote going to TWEED SKIRT, who is back down in class on her return after a couple of respectable efforts in Grade 2s. Swapped and Arizona Cardinal head the dangers.
It was mostly good from NEON MOON last season after wind surgery and there were excuses the final time.

Chaos Control |
(3) (6/1 +8%)6/1(+8%) | (3) Chaos Control 6/1, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat who struck at the third time of asking over hurdles in a Market Rasen juvenile (16.5f) in February. Not disgraced in handicaps in recent months, creditable third at Uttoxeter (20f) in August. Not discounted. Not built on February's juvenile win (good); maybe the returning cheekpieces can inspire. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Edison Kent |
(7) (6/1 +0%)6/1(+0%) | (7) Edison Kent 6/1, Winner of a big-field Killarney maiden hurdle for Jessica Harrington back in May 2021. Largely struggled after but there have been better signs for present stable in recent months and booking of Harry Cobden catches the eye here with cheekpieces back on. Just 1-20, but putting results together again at present; stamina to spare at today's trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bashers Reflection |
(4) (9/2 +10%)9/2(+10%) | (4) Bashers Reflection 9/2, Improved performer switched to handicaps last season, supplementing his comfortable C&D victory in March with another decisive success at Plumpton (20.5f) a month later. Remains relatively lightly raced and he may have more to offer this term. Three 2m3f-2m4f wins last term (one C&D) on good or soft; still improving when last seen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Enthused |
(2) (11/4 +0%)11/4(+0%) | (2) Enthused 11/4, Thrived this year, finding a little more improvement to gain fifth win of the campaign at Huntingdon (15.8f) 3 days ago, going on before 2 out and drawing clear flat. No surprise to see him out under a penalty and possibilities again in this groove. Won four of last five, and a 2m3.5f handicap in May, on better ground than may await here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ilanz |
(6) (11/2 -38%)11/2(-38%) | (6) Ilanz 11/2, Bumper winner who bagged back-to-back handicap hurdle victories at up to 19f late last year and posted a creditable third from his inflated mark at Uttoxeter (20f) when last seen in February. Returns to action with his yard amongst the winners and another holding claims. Held when last seen following a rise for two December 2022 wins; likely more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bonheur De Ballon |
(5) (15/2 +0%)15/2(+0%) | (5) Bonheur De Ballon 15/2, Ex-French recruit who showed fair form when landing claimer at Angouleme (18.9f) 11 months ago. Below best final start in December and the betting should prove a useful guide on yard/handicap debut following a wind op. 3yo claiming hurdle winner in France, but little form otherwise; might need this outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Anger Management |
(8) (22/1 -38%)22/1(-38%) | (8) Anger Management 22/1, Exploits distinctly mixed following success over hurdles at Huntingdon 12 months ago but returned to form from out of the blue to double career tally at Bangor (19.5f) last month, the increase in trip suiting well. However, failed by a long chalk to back that up at first-named venue since. Nothing in hand of his mark following 4lb rise for Bangor win (2m3f); finished lame latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Seaborough |
(9) (28/1 +15%)28/1(+15%) | (9) Seaborough 28/1, Scored at Uttoxeter (20f) 13 months ago but record typically patchy since, well below best on Flat/over hurdles in recent months. Passed over operating from out of the weights. 2m4f hurdles winner this time last year (good) but couldn't recommend on 2023 efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Made For You |
(1) (33/1 -83%)33/1(-83%) | (1) Made For You 33/1, All 5 career victories over hurdles gained on right-handed tracks, the latest at Musselburgh (19.8f) in December. Record distinctly patchy thereafter and he made little impact back on the Flat at Nottingham (14f) in May. Others appeal more back from 5 months off. Almost obliged off just 1lb lower in March; won't mind rain; more compelling right-handed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Bashers Reflection has won a shade cosily on his last two starts and Ben Case's upwardly-mobile gelding must enter calculations off only 5lb higher in his bid to land a hat-trick. However, ENTHUSED still appeared to be ahead of the handicapper when scoring in ready fashion at Huntingdon on Tuesday and makes slightly more appeal, despite having a 7lb penalty to overcome. Chaos Control drops in class and also warrants consideration.
Competitive fare with the narrow vote in favour of EDISON KENT. He wasn't at his very best at Huntingdon on his latest outing 10 days ago but there had been much more encouraging signs from his reduced mark previously and the booking of Harry Cobden is an eye-catching one. The selection's stablemate Enthused has thrived this year and is feared. Ilanz and Bashers Reflection complete the shortlist.
Still progressing over 2m3f-2m4f (including here on soft), BASHERS REFLECTION can make a winning return. Edison Kent is next best.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
