1st (2) (2/7 +50%) Gyenyame |
2/7(+50%) | (2) Gyenyame 2/7, Fairly useful Flat/hurdles winner who has the size to make a chaser and made a pretty encouraging start in a well-contested handicap over this trip at Chepstow on return. Should have learnt plenty from that and obvious claims in this company. Useful hurdler; made mistakes on his chase debut but ran well in the circumstances. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (12/1 +64%) Universal Secret |
12/1(+64%) | (3) Universal Secret 12/1, Modest winning hurdler who hasn't really convinced in 2 tries over fences and will need the other two to bomb out if he's to score. These terms are tougher than when well beaten in two handicap chases. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 -113%) Forever William |
4/1(-113%) | (1) Forever William 4/1, Lazy sort but a 3-time hurdles winner for Alan King and good claims on September Newton Abbot third for this yard now he goes chasing in thin contest. Headgear retained. Found a weak race for chase debut has been laboured over hurdles the last twice. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Having failed to build on a promising third-placed reappearance at Newton Abbot when down the field at Chepstow and pulling up at Plumpton, Forever William has something to prove now tackling fences. He would likely go close if back to his best, but GYENYAME rates a more solid proposition. Joe Tizzard's six-year-old should have learned plenty from his opening sixth over fences at Chepstow and a similar performance may suffice. Universal Secret has it all to do on the ratings.
GYENYAME made a pretty encouraging start over fences in a well-contested Chepstow handicap on his return and this is much easier so he holds obvious claims with improvement on the way. Forever William is closely matched with him on hurdles form and can put up a bold display if he fancies it.
This looks a match and preference is for GYENYAME who gained some chasing experience when not running too badly at Chepstow.

1st (1) (4/5 -40%) Florencethemachine |
4/5(-40%) | (1) Florencethemachine 4/5, Winning pointer who scored twice over hurdles last season. After 6 months off, shaped best when third of 5 in novices' handicap at this C&D (good) on chase debut in October, losing place when bad mistake sixth. Can step forward from her recent run. Made mistakes on chase debut here but has the build for chasing and can be wiser now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +11%) Another Folly |
2/1(+11%) | (3) Another Folly 2/1, Runner-up both outings in points before showing fair form on second run over hurdles last season. Matched that level on his first chase start when third in handicap at this course (19.2f, good) last month and he's likely to improve over fences. He wasn't beaten far behind an improving winner over 2m3f here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (5/1 +23%) Face D'music |
5/1(+23%) | (2) Face D'music 5/1, Placed on only start in points and off the mark over hurdles at Hereford in May. After 5 months off, unseated at fifth in handicap at Kempton (24f, good to soft) on chase debut, before badly hampered back hurdling last time. Needs to find more. On a recovery mission but did win over hurdles; unseated on last month's chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Although FLORENCETHEMACHINE wasn't always the most fluent when third on her chase/seasonal bow over C&D, she will take the beating if brushing up on her jumping. The six-year-old is entitled to improve for that return to action and she makes plenty of appeal. Another Folly is only 1lb higher than his third-placed debut over fences over 2m3f here last month and he could prove the biggest danger if seeing out the trip, ahead of Face D'music.
FLORENCETHEMACHINE wasn't able to justify favouritism at this C&D on her chasing debut last month, but she shaped best having not always been fluent and her jumping can improve with that experience behind her. The Paul Nicholls-trained mare is preferred to Another Folly, who is also open to improvement as she makes her second chase start.
She made some mistakes on her chase debut here but FLORENCETHEMACHINE still appeals as the most likely winner.

1st (2) (6/4 +14%) Kick Up A Storm |
6/4(+14%) | (2) Kick Up A Storm 6/4, Took his handicap record to 2-4 when staying on well to win over an extended 3m at Wincanton last month. A further 5 lb rise shouldn't prevent another prominent bid for the Nicholls team. Game Wincanton winner and effectively 2lb higher here with Freddie Gingell claiming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/4 +22%) Tiny Tetley |
7/4(+22%) | (1) Tiny Tetley 7/4, Opened his account in a 21.5f course maiden in February. Bit disappointing in a Taunton handicap final start but returns with a relatively unexposed profile and he's partnered by a good conditional/ Maiden winner; perhaps didn't do himself justice on handicap debut afterwards. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (15/2 +6%) Danzini |
15/2(+6%) | (5) Danzini 15/2, Capitalised on reduced mark at Fontwell) in May. Back to that form when third back at Fontwell in September and an early mistake didn't help when fifth at Wincanton since. Good penultimate effort and the drop back to 2m5f counted against her last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 -50%) Kiss My Face |
9/2(-50%) | (3) Kiss My Face 9/2, Resumed winning ways at Worcester in July and even better form when second at Bangor (23f, heavy) 3 weeks ago. Respected for an in-form yard. Only 3lb higher than when going close at Bangor 20 days ago; thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (22/1 -57%) Ben Lilly |
22/1(-57%) | (4) Ben Lilly 22/1, A dual hurdles scorer at around 3m last season but hasn't fired in 2 runs this autumn. Starting to look well handicapped again but a watching brief is advised until showing more. Should be well handicapped but he looks cold as ice at the minute. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Having scored a shade cosily at Wincanton last month, KICK UP A STORM makes plenty of appeal in this follow-up bid. A 5lb rise in the ratings looks on the lenient side for Paul Nicholls' charge and a third career victory could be on the cards. The reappearing Tiny Tetley returns to the scene of his maiden success and he's feared most, with Callum Pritchard taking off a handy 7lb. Kiss My Face is unlikely to be far behind them.
The Philip Hobbs and Johnson White stable is going well so TINY TETLEY gets the vote to make a winning reappearance under a rider who has made a big splash in the conditional ranks this autumn. Kick Up A Storm and Kiss My Face arrive in form and will ensure the selection doesn't get things all his own way.
Most have chances but TINY TETLEY was coming along nicely until disappointing on his handicap debut.

1st (5) (7/1 -17%) Chattamento |
7/1(-17%) | (5) Chattamento 7/1, Plenty of promise in bumpers, not looking the most straightforward under pressure but backing up her previous effort following a breathing operation when runner-up at Stratford (16.3f, good) back in May. Faces a few big yards on hurdling debut but certainly worthy of consideration. Close up in a couple of good-ground bumpers but neither were strong races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 -100%) Jakana |
5/1(-100%) | (3) Jakana 5/1, Seemingly a slow learner but ended up showing more than previously when third of 9 in bumper at Southwell (15.8f, soft) back in June, staying on final 1f. Makes hurdles bow and warrants considerable respect from a top stable. Third in her final bumper and bred to improve for hurdling and with time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/8 +50%) Blacksamssenorita |
11/8(+50%) | (2) Blacksamssenorita 11/8, Promise when third on her Taunton debut in March but found life tougher in a deeper race at Cheltenham the following month. Unable to make the most of her experience returning from 6 months off at Aintree recently but now sent hurdling with her yard amongst the winners. There was promise in her three bumpers and she's nicely bred for hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (5/2 +55%) Basilette |
5/2(+55%) | (1) Basilette 5/2, Doyen filly who made a winning bumper debut in summer 2023. Similar form and less-than-straightforward in maidens on Flat since and got closer than on hurdling bow when runner-up of 3 at Plumpton (15.9f, good to soft) 2 weeks ago. Unlikely to be an easy watch, though (carries head awkwardly). Three ran when second in a Plumpton maiden two weeks ago; others can improve past her. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/1 -157%) Lusso Milan |
9/1(-157%) | (4) Lusso Milan 9/1, Made an encouraging start to her career when second of 11 at Plumpton just before Christmas but went backwards from that when down the field at Market Rasen a couple of months later. Not seen since and a tongue tie is applied for her hurdling debut. Just okay runs in her two bumpers but she's bred to do better over hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BASILETTE took a step forward from her hurdling bow to fill the runner-up spot at Plumpton and Seamus Mullins' mare may take advantage of a decent opportunity at the third time of asking in this sphere. Lusso Milan sports a tongue-tie for her first attempt over timber and she is capable of being in the mix based on her bumper form, while Chattamento appears best of the remainder.
JAKANA has seemingly been a slow learner in bumpers but she took a step forward when runner-up at Southwell back in June so she could be worth chancing to make a winning start over hurdles at the expense of Basilette, who has an experience edge over his rivals but goes about things in a less-than-straightforward manner. Chattamento can fill out third in what looks a trappy contest.
Improvers lurk. BLACKSAMSSENORITA has contested Class 2 bumpers since placed on her debut and earns a tentative nod over Jakana.

1st (1) (6/4 +20%) Inside Man |
6/4(+20%) | (1) Inside Man 6/4, From a good family and positive start in juvenile hurdles last winter, winning at Taunton (16.5f) in December. beaten 19 lengths when sixth of 10 on his Wincanton handicap debut and reappearance but he's entitled to strip fitter now. Juvenile winner and comeback run may have been needed; may have only one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/6 -33%) Vaguely Royal |
4/6(-33%) | (2) Vaguely Royal 4/6, Useful stayer on the Flat for the Gosden stable and struck at the second time of asking over hurdles for new connections when seeing off 15 rivals in a Wincanton maiden (15f, good) 22 days ago. More to come and good chance of another win. Won a fair maiden with a bit in hand at Wincanton; every chance of following up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (33/1 +50%) Joker Jack |
33/1(+50%) | (3) Joker Jack 33/1, No more than hinted at ability in a bumper/novice hurdles last season. Been off for just under 9 months. Has looked limited so far, in a bumper and three hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (40/1 +0%) Sain Et Sauf |
40/1(+0%) | (4) Sain Et Sauf 40/1, From the family of Protektorat but little impact in 3 point bumpers and it's been a similar story in 2 maiden hurdles this autumn. Finished 14l behind Vaguely Royal at Wincanton and her Ludlow run was a backward step. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
VAGUELY ROYAL is a useful performer on the level and got off the mark on his second attempt over hurdles at Wincanton last month. Freddie Gingell takes a valuable 3lb off, which will aid his cause against his likely main rival Inside Man, who is expected to be sharper following his return to action. Sain Et Sauf is preferred to Joker Jack in the battle for third.
VAGUELY ROYAL probably has greater scope for further improvement than fellow winner Inside Man and is preferred in what will likely develop into a straight fight between the pair.
This has the look of a straight match and VAGUELY ROYAL would be conceding 6lb to Inside Man in a handicap.

1st (1) (3/1 +63%) Stans The Man |
3/1(+63%) | (1) Stans The Man 3/1, Belatedly added to maiden hurdle success back in January 2023 when landing a 3¼m Warwick handicap in September. Has failed to complete both starts in this sphere to date, though, and others look safer. Yet to complete in two starts over fences, pulled up last autumn and unseated last month.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +18%) Jack Sprat |
9/4(+18%) | (2) Jack Sprat 9/4, Twice successful in handicap hurdles at Huntingdon last season. Very much a chaser on looks and there were positives to take from his debut fifth of 9 on return/debut in this sphere at Wetherby (21.3f, good to soft) where he shaped as though this step back up in trip would be welcomed. Hurdle winner at 3m1f; kept on well on chase debut at 2m5f; improve for longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/4 +22%) Getupearly |
7/4(+22%) | (5) Getupearly 7/4, Still a maiden under Rules but placed on 3 of his 4 completed starts over fences, including when second to the progressive Instant Gambler (winner twice again since) at Fontwell in September. Trip/ground find and should give a good account. Runner-up twice this autumn before unseating when favourite at Wincanton last month.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/2 -35%) Moorland Rambler |
9/2(-35%) | (4) Moorland Rambler 9/2, Hurdles winner here in January 2023 and 4 of his 5 runs since switched to fences have been at this course, including when a respectable seventh of 12 over an inadequate trip (17.5f, good to soft). Entitled to come on for that reappearance spin and, down another 2 lb, he should be in the mix. Hurdle winner here; yet to be placed over fences and stamina to prove back over 3m. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
JACK SPRAT was in danger of being tailed off on his fencing bow at Wetherby, so it was to his credit that he was able to plug on for a fair fifth. Jamie Snowden's charge has been eased 1lb for his troubles and, given that the rise to 3m should suit, it would come as no surprise were he to step forward. Getupearly had been consistent over fences prior to unseating at Wincanton last time so he can be in the mix, while Johnny B appeals most of the remainder.
While cases can realistically be made for each member of the quintet, MOORLAND RAMBLER, a winner over hurdles here in 2023, is the clear pick from a handicapping standpoint. Indeed, he was fourth in this race 12 months ago on his sole previous try over this trip and is 12 lb lower in the weights this time round. Jack Sprat made an encouraging enough start over fences at Wetherby and he is second choice ahead of Getupearly.
Off a lowly mark, GETUPEARLY (nap) can land his first chase win. Jack Sprat is second best.

1st (1) (4/11 +18%) Maldini Milano |
4/11(+18%) | (1) Maldini Milano 4/11, €80,000 3-y-o, Milan gelding. Dam (h134), 2½m-3m hurdle winner, half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (winner up to 3m) Marinero. Should take all the beating. 80,000euros 3yo; second foal; half-brother to point winner Tell Him Nuttin. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 -13%) Seymourjohn |
9/4(-13%) | (2) Seymourjohn 9/4, £2,500 3-y-o, Scorpion gelding. Dam modest hurdler (2½m/2¾m winner). Off mark in points at fourth attempt (sole completed start, May 18). Considered. Failed to complete in his first three points but then came good in Wales back in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (28/1 +44%) Sure To Be Sure |
28/1(+44%) | (3) Sure To Be Sure 28/1, Half-brother to 3 winners, including dual bumper winner Gaillimh A Chroi. Showed nothing at Newton Abbot on debut, though. Faces very different conditions than when tailed off on heavy at Newton Abbot (66-1). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The strength of Seymourjohn's point-to-point success has yet to truly be tested and although he is an obvious contender, MALDINI MILANO should take all the beating. Paul Nicholls' gelding was picked up for 80,000 euros in June of last year and looks to have been found an ideal opening on his debut. Sure To Be Sure struggled on his racecourse bow at Newton Abbot and will need considerable improvement.
MALDINI MILANO is bred to need further but should have enough ability to make a winning debut. Point-winner Seymourjohn is the obvious danger.
This looks best left to MALDINI MILANO, whose dam was useful and he cost 80,000euros.
Ths is the racecard key.
