1st (7) (8/1 0%) Sam's Amour |
8/1(0%) | (7) Sam's Amour 8/1, Fair hurdler who showed improved form to run out an emphatic winner after 13 weeks off at Fontwell (21.8f, good) in May. Back at that level when second in handicap company over the same C&D but her merit seems established. Has been competitive in handicaps but more on her plate back in a novice race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/5 -80%) Mirabad |
6/5(-80%) | (1) Mirabad 6/5, Useful on Flat and made a good start over hurdles in the spring, building on Wetherby run (when well backed) when landing bare 2m Wincanton novice. Good second under a penalty at Kempton and there should be more to come from him this term (has had a breathing op). Could do with settling better but he's still been running well; had a wind operation. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/1 -125%) Hola Hermosa |
9/1(-125%) | (4) Hola Hermosa 9/1, Just minor promise in bumpers but well prepared to make a winning hurdles debut at Worcester in July. Bare form isn't anything special but she's in the right hands. It wasn't much of a race that she won narrowly from off the pace at Worcester. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 +20%) Call To Duty |
4/1(+20%) | (3) Call To Duty 4/1, Out of a winning hurdler and showed promise on the first of 2 starts in bumpers last year. Easily best effort over hurdles when runner-up at Stratford in June, jumping well. Got to be respected. Best form yet when second at Stratford and he should keep on improving. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (16/1 +0%) Scintillante |
16/1(+0%) | (8) Scintillante 16/1, Produced an effort more in keeping with his Flat form when second in a 2m maiden at Worcester last month. Never threatened when sixth on handicap debut back there a month ago and looks vulnerable returned to novice company. Poor the last time in a handicap and perhaps vulnerable even if back on song. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (200/1 -33%) Knock On Wood |
200/1(-33%) | (6) Knock On Wood 200/1, £7,500 6-y-o, Gatewood gelding. Dam, showed nothing sole start in bumpers, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3½m) Mr Woodentop. Winning pointer (record patchy in that sphere) but pulled up on Rules debut a fortnight ago. Headgear on. Point winner in March but failed to go on from there and showed little on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (100/1 -300%) Alberts Bay |
100/1(-300%) | (2) Alberts Bay 100/1, Limited impact in points but exceeded expectations when third of 5 on hurdles debut in September 2023. Off the track since. Questionable what he achieved in a small field at Newton Abbot (2m5f novice). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Mirabad was no match for a useful sort at Kempton in May, but this doesn't look as deep and he merits respect under the penalty. That said, HOLA HERMOSA made a winning hurdles debut at Worcester in July and with the prospect of more to come, she could double her tally. Call To Duty might not be far away either.
Given MIRABAD's Flat ability, there should be plenty more to come from him as a hurdler this term, so he's taken to successfully concede weight all round. Call To Duty impressed with his jumping at Stratford so he rates a threat, along with Hola Hermosa.
This isn't at all strong and MIRABAD might well be up to defying a penalty on the back of a wind operation.

1st (4) (11/2 +39%) A Definite Getaway |
11/2(+39%) | (4) A Definite Getaway 11/2, Maiden over hurdles but got off the mark at the first time of asking over fences at Worcester in July. Two creditable efforts in defeat since but has nothing obviously in hand of his mark. Has taken well to fences in recent months but a couple of the others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (9/4 -13%) Magical Escape |
9/4(-13%) | (1) Magical Escape 9/4, Landed back-to-back hurdle wins at up to 3m in the spring. Interesting chase newcomer back from 5 months off (has had wind surgery). Hit form over hurdles in the spring, winning twice; switched to fences for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/10 +0%) Florencethemachine |
11/10(+0%) | (3) Florencethemachine 11/10, Dual hurdle winner, latterly a 3m Chepstow handicap in April. A point background provides hope that she can go on to even better things over fences this time round. Big player for top yard. Irish point winner; 2-6 over hurdles; a good candidate for chasing this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/1 -8%) Ajp Kingdom |
7/1(-8%) | (2) Ajp Kingdom 7/1, Can make mistakes but placed twice over 23f at Worcester over this summer and ought to be on the premises again if keeping the errors down. Placed in two of his four chases this season but has become too inconsistent to rely upon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|R| (5) (18/1 -29%) Valentino |
18/1(-29%) | (5) Valentino 18/1, Three-time hurdle winner but lightly raced in recent times. Showed he retains his ability after 9 months off when fourth in Newton Abbot handicap hurdle in June but off again since. Probably best watched on this rather belated chase debut. Very lightly raced in recent years but ran quite well over hurdles in June; chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Twice a winner over hurdles earlier this year, FLORENCETHEMACHINE has few miles on the clock and, with chasing sure to be more her game, the daughter of Malinas can make an immediate impact. A switch to the larger obstacles should also benefit Magical Escape and Kim Bailey's Ffos Las winner can make his presence felt, while A Definite Getaway heads the remainder.
FLORENCETHEMACHINE improved for the step up to 3m when successful over hurdles at Chepstow in the spring and a point success at the start of her career provides hope that she can do well over the larger obstacles. Fellow chase newcomer Magical Escape is feared most.
Chasing debutants MAGICAL ESCAPE and Florencethemachine both have considerable potential and may fight this out.

1st (6) (11/4 -38%) Roaring Home |
11/4(-38%) | (6) Roaring Home 11/4, Out of a bumper winner and positive start in mares' events, running right up to best when runner-up at Southwell (15.8f) back in May. One to be interested in now attentions switch to hurdling. Made the frame in all three bumpers, last time when close second to a smart mare. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (10/3 -21%) Soleil D'arizona |
10/3(-21%) | (10) Soleil D'arizona 10/3, Fairly useful on Flat in France in 2023 (stays 12.5f), third in handicap at Saint-Cloud when last seen 12 months ago. Acquired by leading NH stable for €50,000 thereafter and she's well worth considering now starting out over hurdles. Won on the Flat in France last year; interesting recruit to hurdling for Dan Skelton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4/1 +20%) Definite Dream |
4/1(+20%) | (2) Definite Dream 4/1, Maiden pointer. Shaped better than previously in this sphere equipped with a tongue tie when second of 10 in novice hurdle at Worcester (2m, good) 24 days ago, staying on gradually late on behind idling winner. Each-way claims again with a repeat. In frame all three hurdling starts but her form isn't anything to get too excited about. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (25/1 -213%) Basilette |
25/1(-213%) | (1) Basilette 25/1, Doyen filly who only had to run to a modest level to make a winning bumper debut last summer. Similar form and less-than-straightforward maiden on Flat, albeit not seen to best effect (blinkered) when fifth of 11 in handicap at Lingfield (10f, AW) 30 days ago. Hurdles debut. Won run-of-the-mill bumper last summer but 0-14 on the Flat in the meantime. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (85/40 +65%) Mavis Pike |
85/40(+65%) | (4) Mavis Pike 85/40, Fair form shown in bumpers and stepped up on her hurdles debut effort when third of 10 in mares' novice hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, heavy) back in March, that despite making a hash of the last. Returns with her yard going great guns and she's fancied to feature. Placed on heavy ground in March; has a bit to find here but rain will aid her cause. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (40/1 -186%) Hurst Hill |
40/1(-186%) | (3) Hurst Hill 40/1, Arctic Cosmos mare who has finished placed on 2 of her 3 starts, third of 12 in novice hurdle at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) back in June. Shapes as though longer trips will suit however, and handicaps promise to be more her bag in this sphere. Third in two modest novice hurdles at Newton Abbot in spring; more is needed here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (80/1 -142%) As Fast As Wind |
80/1(-142%) | (7) As Fast As Wind 80/1, Fair maiden on Flat in Ireland (stays 1½m) but well held on 3 of last 4 starts for Eoin Doyle this year. Likely best watched now starting out over hurdles for new yard with headgear discarded. Fair on the Flat at her best but has become disappointing this year; stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (250/1 -400%) Flyover |
250/1(-400%) | (8) Flyover 250/1, Mount Nelson filly. Well held last of 11 on bumper debut at Newton Abbot (16.8f) in May and she looks best watched now attentions switch to hurdles for new stable. Tongue strap on 1st time. Tailed off in Newton Abbot bumper for Mitchell Hunt in May; new yard for hurdle career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (14/1 -40%) O'malley |
14/1(-40%) | (5) O'malley 14/1, Looked to be struggling when brought down on home turn on bumper debut in March but offered something to work on in 2 starts since, third of 11 in bumper at Worcester (16f, good) 52 days ago. Makes hurdles debut but another who may need further to be seen at her best in due course. Respectable third in Worcester bumper in August but others have more compelling form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The vote goes to ROARING HOME, who chased home the now 135-rated Gale Mahler in a bumper at Southwell in May. Those with hurdling experience do not set a particularly high standard, so given a clean round of jumping she might be tough to beat. Leloopa struck the woodwork at Newton Abbot recently and she's feared on the back of that performance, while others to note include Soleil D'arizona and Definite Dream.
ROARING HOME made a bright start in bumpers, running right up to her best when second at Southwell when last seen in May. She's very much the type to make her mark over hurdles and earns the vote on return to action. Fairly useful French recruit Soleil d'Arizona is another of interest now starting out over hurdles for Dan Skelton. Mavis Pike can emerge best of those with previous hurdles experience.
This can go to ROARING HOME, who pushed a subsequent Listed hurdle winner all the way to the line when second in a bumper in May.

1st (3) (6/5 +85%) Opening Bid |
6/5(+85%) | (3) Opening Bid 6/5, Cheekpieces on for 1st time when a good fifth of 9 in handicap chase at Worcester (20f, good) 29 days ago. Back to a potentially lenient mark so a player in his bid to repeat last year's success. Won this race in 2023 and returns here after two decent efforts; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (7/1 -75%) Kauto The King |
7/1(-75%) | (5) Kauto The King 7/1, Ungenuine type but he scored at Newton Abbot in August and wasn't disgraced when fourth of 5 in handicap chase at Plumpton (17f, good) 18 days ago. Not ruled out. Dug deep at Newton Abbot in August, his tenth chase win, and is still on a workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (7/2 +0%) Hystery Bere |
7/2(+0%) | (2) Hystery Bere 7/2, Fairly useful hurdles scorer who made a winning start in this sphere in 4-runner handicap at Warwick over a year ago. Mixed record since and pulled up at Uttoxeter when last seen out in May. Tongue strap and cheekpieces go back on. Pulled up on latest outing in May but returns from break on good mark; headgear switched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 -17%) Cat Tiger |
7/2(-17%) | (1) Cat Tiger 7/2, Useful chaser at his best and, while not the force of old, his latest second at Stratford in May was a positive step. Not ruled out now back with Paul Nicholls after a break with tongue strap refitted. Second in two hunter chases in the spring; on tempting mark for handicap return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (16/1 +11%) Dorrells Pierji |
16/1(+11%) | (4) Dorrells Pierji 16/1, Veteran who scored twice over hurdles Dan Skelton in 2022. Won 5 times in points between April and June this year but found life tougher in Worcester handicap chases in recent weeks. Won five points in the spring; ran okay under rules in August but disappointed last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Having posted some creditable efforts in defeat in hunter chases earlier in the year, CAT TIGER could be worth chancing back under the tutelage of Paul Nicholls. The veteran has been given some respite from the handicapper and another victory could be on the cards. Opening Bid landed last year's edition of this contest off a 2lb higher mark and a recent fifth at Worcester should have him spot on for a repeat. The nine-year-old is feared most, ahead of Kauto The King.
OPENING BID took this 12 months ago and another bold showing looks on the cards given he can race off a 2 lb lower mark than when a good recent Worcester fifth. Cat Tiger could emerge as the main danger, with fellow veteran Kauto The King also not discounted in his current mood.
Cat Tiger looks interesting back in a handicap but OPENING BID is also on a good mark now, and he is taken to win this race again.

1st (6) (13/2 +19%) Star Of Affinity |
13/2(+19%) | (6) Star Of Affinity 13/2, Let down by jumping when last seen at Stratford in May but had shown promise over hurdles prior to that, including when third at this course (18.5f) in April. Tongue strap on first time/had wind operation. Not out of things. Kept on for modest third here in April but absent since poor run the following month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (10/3 +87%) Penna Rossa |
10/3(+87%) | (10) Penna Rossa 10/3, Sole success came at Sandown in 2022 and well below that form in a trio of starts this term. Handicap has reacted accordingly, however, and he is worth a second look in the market on debut for new yard. Out of form in early part of this season but makes stable debut from a very good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (14) (14/1 -17%) Far Away West |
14/1(-17%) | (14) Far Away West 14/1, Returned to form, from 5 lb out of the handicap, when good fourth of 15 at Stratford (18.7f, good) 33 days ago. 2 lb lower now and warrants respect. Ran well in selling handicap last month but this season's record is rather mixed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (7/1 +0%) Stage Show |
7/1(+0%) | (9) Stage Show 7/1, Fair maiden on Flat who found improvement in this sphere when fourth of 10 in handicap at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) 20 days ago. Claims if building on that. Fair Flat racer when on song and ran well when fourth on recent handicap hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (6/1 -20%) Bluebella |
6/1(-20%) | (11) Bluebella 6/1, Landed a Worcester handicap (16f) last year and back to that sort of form when creditable fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Worcester (16f, good) 29 days ago. One of likelier contenders. Took good step back in right direction when fourth last month; player if ground stays good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (15) (14/1 +0%) Miss Marette |
14/1(+0%) | (15) Miss Marette 14/1, C&D winner this time last year but been more miss than hit since, including when well beaten on chase debut at Worcester 43 days ago. Something to prove back hurdling here. C&D winner last October but seems to have lost her way this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (4/1 0%) Jo's Rainbow |
4/1(0%) | (3) Jo's Rainbow 4/1, Fair 10f winner on Flat for Karl Burke and appears to be gradually getting the hang of things over hurdles, making the frame on last 3 starts, latest when fourth of 11 in Worcester handicap (20f, good) last month. Remains open to improvement in this sphere. 0-5 over hurdles but shaped well when fourth in her first two handicaps (2m/2m4f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (16) (40/1 -21%) Too Sharp |
40/1(-21%) | (16) Too Sharp 40/1, Modest maiden hurdler who failed to improve on switch to handicaps at Fontwell last month. Hard to fancy. Ran better than bare form suggests on recent handicap debut but still needs to improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (25/1 -108%) Baikal |
25/1(-108%) | (2) Baikal 25/1, Dual winner over hurdles for Adam West in 2023 but yet to get his head in front this year and made little impact on first start for new yard on level 9 days ago. Placed off 2lb higher for Adam West in July; ground excuse on recent stable debut (Flat). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (12/1 -50%) Pak Army |
12/1(-50%) | (1) Pak Army 12/1, In good form on Flat and over hurdles during summer but below form more recently, no match for principals when fourth of 9 in handicap at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good, 12/1) latest. Cheekpieces back on. Placed twice over hurdles since emphatic Flat win in May; holds each-way claims again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (8) (100/1 -400%) Stray Bullet |
100/1(-400%) | (8) Stray Bullet 100/1, Fair winner on Flat in France but well held on his completed start over timber for this yard. Sent handicap hurdling, back from 7 months off, and is likely best watched. Struggled in three juvenile hurdles last autumn; off since heavy Flat defeat in February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (50/1 -213%) Sindri |
50/1(-213%) | (13) Sindri 50/1, Maiden on the Flat and too free all 3 hurdles starts. Likely best watched on handicap debut for new yard. Makes stable/handicap hurdle debut from a lowly mark but significant improvement is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (17) (16/1 -33%) Deal Em High |
16/1(-33%) | (17) Deal Em High 16/1, Returned to form, in first time cheekpieces/tongue strap when creditable third of 12 in handicap hurdle at Bangor (16.7f, good) 34 days ago. Remains to be seen if he can back that up here. 1 lb out of the weights. 66-1 third in today's headgear combination last month; now needs to build on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (14/1 +58%) Escobedo |
14/1(+58%) | (12) Escobedo 14/1, Won on final start for Milton Harris at Sedgefield this time last year but largely disappointed since and makes limited appeal on debut for new yard here. Cheekpieces back on. Well beaten on last two outings; needs to have been perked up by latest stable switch. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (4) (50/1 -213%) African Lady |
50/1(-213%) | (4) African Lady 50/1, Showed ability in maiden hurdles for Gavin Cromwell earlier this year but has proved disappointing in a couple of runs for new connections thus far and is now tried in blinkers. Showed promise in Irish maiden hurdles but safely held in both handicaps for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (18) (150/1 -200%) Boudica Warrior |
150/1(-200%) | (18) Boudica Warrior 150/1, Fair maiden at best on the Flat but hasn't replicated that over hurdles as yet and looks set for another struggle from out of the weights. Has not shown a great deal over hurdles or on the Flat since joining current stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (5) (25/1 -108%) Kintaro |
25/1(-108%) | (5) Kintaro 25/1, Ran below previous form on both handicap outings over timber, latest over this trip at Worcester last month. Bit to prove now. Placed in two novice hurdles in June but safely held in first two handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (16/1 -45%) Mr Zee |
16/1(-45%) | (7) Mr Zee 16/1, Fair handicapper on the Flat, successful 3 times last year. Still looking for first success in this discipline, however, and arrives on back of poor effort on level. This summer's Flat form is underwhelming but Harry Cobden is booked for this hurdle return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Having found 2m4f stretching her stamina when weakening into fourth at Worcester last month, JO'S RAINBOW makes plenty of appeal returning to 2m. Dan Skelton's filly still looks nicely treated given her ability on the Flat and a first victory over hurdles could be on the cards. The biggest threat may emerge from Stage Show, who offered plenty of encouragement when fourth on his handicap bow at Newton Abbot 20 days ago. Market confidence behind stable debutants Penna Rossa or Escobedo should be noted.
Preference is for JO'S RAINBOW, who shaped better than the bare result at Worcester last month and will appreciate the drop back in trip. Bluebella and Far Away West head the list of dangers.
A speculative option to consider is PENNA ROSSA, who has been given a very good chance by the handicapper before this stable debut.

11/10(+37%) | (7) Harrys Hope 11/10, Irish point winner who left hurdling efforts behind with a most impressive winning chase debut at Southwell a week ago. Obvious claims of following up under a penalty. Won readily by 7l on last week's chasing debut; commands respect under 7lb penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 -50%) Sherborne |
6/1(-50%) | (1) Sherborne 6/1, Won twice over hurdles and confirmed the promise of previous starts in this sphere when striking at Wincanton (2½m, heavy) in December. Ended the season in form and can feature if tuned up for this return after 6 months off. In good form when last seen in the spring and won't mind what the weather does here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (18/1 -157%) Another Folly |
18/1(-157%) | (2) Another Folly 18/1, Runner-up both starts in points. Fair form on second hurdle start but struggled otherwise, including on handicap bow latest. Makes chase debut after 6 months off. Only third of four on handicap hurdle debut in March but remains unexposed; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (40/1 -100%) Royal Juniper |
40/1(-100%) | (8) Royal Juniper 40/1, Followed positive start to chasing with a tame effort at Fontwell, so needs to bounce back from that if he's to have any chance of competing. Placed at big odds at Fontwell in May but tailed off there last month, after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (5/1 +9%) Begin The Luck |
5/1(+9%) | (3) Begin The Luck 5/1, Course winner who arrives on the back of a creditable showing at Stratford last month. Others look better treated but he's likely to give his running again. Four-time chase winner (once here) who gave a good account when placed last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (50/1 +0%) Ileny Royale |
50/1(+0%) | (4) Ileny Royale 50/1, Placed twice from 4 starts in minor events for Gabriel Leenders in France. Offered little over hurdles for this yard and has a bit to prove returning from 8 months off. Struggled in two handicap hurdles last season; makes chasing debut after 260-day layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (9) (8/1 +33%) Stiletto |
8/1(+33%) | (9) Stiletto 8/1, Modest maiden hurdler who probably needed the run at Worcester last month. Hard to be sure that he'll take to chasing, however. Well handicapped on some of last season's hurdling form but not bred for fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (14/1 -133%) Fakir |
14/1(-133%) | (6) Fakir 14/1, Mixed bag since landing a 3-runner handicap chase at Fontwell over a year ago. Left Anthony Charlton before shaping like the run was needed at Fontwell a month ago. Should be spot on now and on a handy mark, so looks a player in a first-time visor. Not the force of old but ran well for a long way on recent seasonal/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (14/1 -75%) Goaheadwiththeplan |
14/1(-75%) | (10) Goaheadwiththeplan 14/1, Just looks modest now and, while he ran respectably at Worcester a month ago, he didn't look the most straightforward, so others are more appealing. Recent efforts prove he retains ability; no surprise if he features. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (80/1 -60%) Maska Du Morvan |
80/1(-60%) | (11) Maska Du Morvan 80/1, First run since leaving Mary E Doyle, 25/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, pulled up in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (24f, good to soft) on debut over fences 117 days ago. Has a bit to prove. Point winner in May but struggled to get competitive on rules return in June; stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HARRYS HOPE made an impressive chasing debut when scoring by seven lengths at Southwell last week and is very hard to ignore turned out quickly under a 7lb penalty. Topweight Sherborne has more experience in this discipline and is the chief threat to the selection. Previous course winner Begin The Luck is also forwarded as a key player in this company. Goaheadwiththeplan also needs considering.
HARRYS HOPE took superbly well to chasing when running out an emphatic winner at Southwell a week ago and, if the race doesn't come too soon, she's firmly expected to defy a penalty. Fakir is a danger on his second outing for a shrewd yard and Sherborne should be involved if fit enough to do himself justice on reappearance.
The most obvious answer is HARRY'S HOPE (nap), who created a good impression when winning readily by 7l on last week's chasing debut.

1st (3) (1/2 +100%) In The Air |
1/2(+100%) | (3) In The Air 1/2, Gambled on and made a mockery of his much-reduced mark on first start since leaving Adam West in 9-runner handicap at Southwell (20.4f, good to firm) 7 days ago, plenty in hand. Likely to take some stopping under a 7-lb penalty. Won easily on stable debut a week ago and remains very well handicapped under 7lb penalty. |

2nd (8) (12/1 +52%) Thahab Ifraj |
12/1(+52%) | (8) Thahab Ifraj 12/1, Capitalised on a career-low mark when winning this corresponding event last year, but ran below form at Worcester in August and never threatened back on the Flat at Bath last month. Others more persuasive. Won this off 2lb lower in 2023 but recent Flat/hurdle form is underwhelming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 +29%) War Lord |
5/1(+29%) | (1) War Lord 5/1, Down the weights and proved he retains plenty of ability when third in a Newton Abbot handicap hurdle in June. Failed to complete back over fences next time but shaped with encouragement reverted to hurdling when fourth there (21.6f) last month. Player with cheekpieces refitted. Lost his way over fences but has made the frame in his last two hurdles; each-way claims. |

4th (9) (14/1 -211%) Asian Spice |
14/1(-211%) | (9) Asian Spice 14/1, Landed a brace of handicaps here last November and got back on track when second in 7-runner event at Stratford (16.3f, good) in May. This demands a bit more, though. Dual course winner last November; holds each-way claims if ready to roll after break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (16/1 +0%) Hardy Fella |
16/1(+0%) | (2) Hardy Fella 16/1, Scored over fences at Fontwell in November but pulled up last 3 starts, including back over hurdles at Worcester last time. Ended last season in poor form over fences and was pulled up over hurdles in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (33/1 -32%) Bigz Belief |
33/1(-32%) | (6) Bigz Belief 33/1, Fair hurdler who shaped like a non-stayer on his most recent outing in this sphere. This trip more suitable and ran creditably on his stable debut on the Flat last time. 3-32 over hurdles when trained in Ireland but well below best form there this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (22/1 -57%) Clearance |
22/1(-57%) | (4) Clearance 22/1, Smooth traveller who added to his terrific course record at Newton Abbot when scoring cosily over 2m there in June. Respectable efforts since but needs to prove he's as good away from that venue. As good as ever when winning twice in spring; not quite at same level lately. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (10/1 -25%) Gustoso |
10/1(-25%) | (5) Gustoso 10/1, Showed much-improved form to get off the mark in first-time cheekpieces at Huntingdon in April. Backed it up with a good third at Perth later in the month but this represents a step up in grade. Low-mileage 5yo; ended last season on an upward curve; player if tuned up after break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
IN THE AIR was in command a long way from home when he made a successful debut for Nicky Henderson at Southwell last week and, given he is 4lb well in here, he could make light of the 7lb penalty. War Lord is versatile and, having dropped to a highly-competitive mark in comparison to past exploits, he cannot be ruled out in this company. Gustoso and Clearance are others with each-way appeal.
IN THE AIR made a mockery of his much-reduced mark on first start for Nicky Henderson at Southwell last week and will surely take a fair bit of stopping if turning up in similar form under a penalty. War Lord and Asian Spice are fancied to fill the places.
It's hard to get away from IN THE AIR, who looked rejuvenated when winning easily off a much-reduced mark for his new stable last week.
Ths is the racecard key.
