1st (10) (5/2 -33%) Le Coq Hardi |
5/2(-33%) | (10) Le Coq Hardi 5/2, Promising sort. 25/1, fourth of 22 in very good novice hurdle at Punchestown (16.5f, soft) on hurdles bow 172 days ago. More to come and this is easier. Lots to like. It was a pretty deep maiden in which he ran fourth at Punchestown in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (16/1 +0%) Pahlavi |
16/1(+0%) | (12) Pahlavi 16/1, Modest hurdler. 33/1, good fourth of 12 in novice hurdle at Bellewstown (16.8f, good) 10 months ago. Has performed okay in a couple of maiden hurdles but looks one for handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (17) (11/4 -10%) Mordor |
11/4(-10%) | (17) Mordor 11/4, Respectable third of 16 in juvenile hurdle at Limerick (16.9f, heavy, 6/4) 17 days ago. Claims on pick of his form but others might improve past him. Not built on his excellent third at Leopardstown but still a big player in this company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (80/1 -60%) Shinnhill |
80/1(-60%) | (13) Shinnhill 80/1, Conduit gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/chaser Bobo Mac and fairly useful hurdler/chase winner Shumaker, stayed 2¾m. Dam unraced. Point form is nothing to shout about and he's been off since late 2022; no appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (66/1 -100%) High Honour |
66/1(-100%) | (5) High Honour 66/1, Fairly useful handicapper at best on Flat. Making GB/IRE jumps debut. Seventeenth of 19 in handicap (125/1) at the Curragh (8f, heavy) 49 days ago. Tongue strap on. Won for Godolphin but failed to progress; well held in two valuable h'caps for this yard. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (4) (125/1 -279%) Garrick Painter |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (16) (300/1 -355%) Kartel And Co |
300/1(-355%) | (16) Kartel And Co 300/1, Twice-raced maiden. 100/1, fourteenth of 16 in juvenile hurdle at Bellewstown (17f, good to soft) 12 days ago. Down the field in maidens at Cork and Bellewstown; similar scenario very feasible here. |

125/1(-150%) | (8) Gustavo Goodway 125/1, Twice-raced maiden. 200/1, eleventh of 18 in novice hurdle at Naas (19.3f, soft) 20 days ago. 0-4 in points and tailed off in two maiden hurdles; drier ground this time but opposable. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
In a race with more questions than answers, it seems likely that the Gordon Elliott-trained Mordor will head the market after his 10-length Limerick third, but that form does not look unbeatable. WHATSANOTHERYEAR went into a few notebooks after his debut fifth and he should only have learned from that experience, making him a very interesting contender. Dromineer Smurphy weakened late on over further at Clonmel and could surprise a few with even nominal improvement, despite a rise in class.
LE COQ HARDI offered plenty to work on in a hot Punchestown novice hurdle in November and is hard to get away from in this company with improvement likely. Mordor and Old Port are dangers.
There's a lot of dead wood. MORDOR has become disappointing but he warrants another chance in a maiden of this nature.

9/2(-64%) | (1) Benjis Benefit 9/2, Good second of 15 in handicap hurdle (6/4) at Downpatrick (18.8f, good) 10 days ago, not ideally placed. First run for yard after leaving Emmet Mullins. 9/1(-64%) | (4) Forever Frankie 9/1, Good second of 13 in handicap hurdle at Tramore (16.7f, good to soft, 10/1) 14 days ago. Merits consideration on the back of that excellent run. By far his best run over hurdles after 5 months off when second to an improver at Tramore. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Benjis Benefit once more failed to justify favouritism when runner-up at Downpatrick recently, although a similar performance on his stable bow for Denis Hogan is likely to see him in the mix once more. However, it could be worth taking a chance on UP AND OUT building on her third-placed reappearance at Tramore last month. That marked a return to form for Gordon Elliott's mare and Jake Coen's 5lb claim could prove vital. Forever Frankie and Breagagh also warrant a closer look.
BENJIS BENEFIT was a rare one who failed to deliver when the money was down twice for Emmet Mullins but he's joined another shrewd yard and is worth another chance. Forever Frankie produced a big career best at Tramore a fortnight ago and is a threat, along with Breagagh.
Dropping back in trip may not be ideal for BENJIS BENEFIT but 2m1f around here should be enough of a test and he's well up to winning

1st (1) (8/11 +68%) Born Braver |
8/11(+68%) | (1) Born Braver 8/11, One win from 3 runs last season. 11/4, won 18-runner novice hurdle at Naas (19.3f, soft) 20 days ago, driven out. Up in trip. Progressing recently. 2m3f maiden winner last time and has the potential to improve again over this far. |

2nd (2) (5/2 +44%) Gold In The Rivers |
5/2(+44%) | (2) Gold In The Rivers 5/2, 13/8, career best when winning 9-runner novice hurdle at Limerick (19f, heavy) 43 days ago, forging clear. Up in trip. Booking of Millar a plus. Likely to improve, but he needs to on these terms. Didn't beat a lot at Limerick but he's a good looker with plenty more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (6/1 +8%) Gold Cup Bailly |
6/1(+8%) | (4) Gold Cup Bailly 6/1, Pulled up in handicap chase at Ayr (31.8f, good to soft, 66/1) 16 days ago, struggling after. Switches from chase to hurdles. Down in trip. Pulled up in the Scottish National on his return from an absence; comes with risks. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (11/1 +45%) Joya Del Mar |
11/1(+45%) | (7) Joya Del Mar 11/1, Eighth of 13 in novice hurdle (13/2) at Clonmel (18.9f, heavy) 81 days ago. Up in trip and though task, even if bouncing back. Second in a maiden here at Christmas; looks a bit outclassed on these terms. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
LOOK TO THE WEST struggled at Grade 1 level on her most recent outing at Fairyhouse in March but her previous third in a Grade 3 contest suggests that she could be hard to beat here. Gold In The Rivers had plenty in hand when getting off the mark at Limerick last time and could prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Born Braver and Rocky's Diamond.
LOOK TO THE WEST fared about as well as could be expected in Graded company after making a winning Rules debut and back down in class, she'll take some stopping. Born Braver is the obvious threat on form, though Gold In The Rivers and Rocky's Diamond are open to progress.
It's hard to get away from LOOK TO THE WEST who takes a huge drop in class after chasing home Jade De Grugy in her last two races.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
MAGIC TRICKS may have pulled up in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival but the fact he contested that race suggests a big chasing debut could be on the cards in this company, as does his Listed hurdle victory at this venue in November. Gordon Elliott's gelding looks the one to beat, although Jimmy Chou Pecos Aa's experience over fences could count for a lot and he must be respected. Fathom Two is no forlorn hope on his chasing debut for Gavin Cromwell.
MAGIC TRICKS was never a factor in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham when last seen in March but he's a classy recruit to chasing and given the yard he represents, is sure to be well prepared for this. This step back up in trip is sure to suit Ottoman Style and he is the obvious threat.
A course winner over hurdles, OTTOMAN STYLE ran well against useful opposition on chase debut and stepping back up in trip will suit

7/2(-17%) | (6) Sweet Will 7/2, Creditable third of 9 in handicap chase (5/1) at Tramore (21.7f, good to soft) 15 days ago. Up in trip. Makes plenty of appeal in a weak race. Rated lower over fences than hurdles and was only beaten 2l at Tramore two weeks ago. |

4th (3) (17/2 +15%) The Flier Begley |

5th (4) (3/1 +63%) Shantou Show |
3/1(+63%) | (4) Shantou Show 3/1, Lightly-raced winner in chases. Below form sixth of 10 in hunter chase at this course (24f, soft, 10/1) 132 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Noel C. Kelly. Switched to handicaps off a potentially lenient mark. Lightly raced; dual point winner and beaten under 4l by Billaway at Downpatrick last May. |

6th (7) (11/2 +31%) Temptationinmilan |
11/2(+31%) | (7) Temptationinmilan 11/2, 11/2, ninth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Thurles (22.9f, heavy) 51 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Cheekpieces back on. Dangerous mark but needs to turn a corner after last season's disappointments. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (16/1 +36%) Freewheelin Dylan |
16/1(+36%) | (1) Freewheelin Dylan 16/1, Fifteenth of 17 in minor event chase at Punchestown (24.8f, good to soft, 16/1). Off 17 months. Hard to make a case for. Famed for winning the 2021 Irish National at 150-1; that was his last win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (5/1 +44%) Favori Logique |
5/1(+44%) | (11) Favori Logique 5/1, 13/2, seventh of 8 in handicap chase at Fairyhouse (21.6f, heavy) 37 days ago. Back up in trip. Others preferred. Easy to make a form case back on goodish ground; penultimate run encouraging. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Several have good chances based on peak performances, however, SWEET WILL is still relatively unexposed over fences and earns the vote based on his potential to find more now he is back beyond 3m, with ground conditions looking ideal. Favori Logique is dangerous to underestimate from the foot of the handicap, while Dorking Cock, Goodnightngodbless and Temptationinmilan all have solid each-way claims. Galon De Vauzellel (third in this last year) and Read To Return would add even more spice to the race if turned out again following their outings at Punchestown on Saturday.
SWEET WILL is very well handicapped on old form and put in one of his better efforts when third at Tramore last time, so he's fancied to land this weak event upped in distance. Dorking Cock at least arrives on the back of a solid showing, so he's a danger, while Shantou Show isn't one to rule out.
Getting back on goodish ground looks a big plus for FAVORI LOGIQUE and his penultimate effort over 3m4f was highly encouraging.

9/2(-157%) | (3) Ballyphilip 9/2, Showed little in a novice hurdle at Perth 9 months ago but has won all 4 points in 2024 (latest Apr 20) and makes most appeal as he bids to extend that streak on hunter debut. Only a 6yo and has got it together to win his last four points, easily each time. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (33/1 +0%) Ballinrea |
33/1(+0%) | (1) Ballinrea 33/1, Twice-raced maiden. Ninth of 10 in hunter chase at Tramore (21.8f, good, 11/2) 14 days ago. Performed below expectations in two hunter chases; point winner who may do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (7/1 +7%) John The Spark |
7/1(+7%) | (9) John The Spark 7/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Eighth of 16 in novice chase at Punchestown (24.4f, good to soft, 9/1) 6 days ago. Consistent pointer, winning three times, and beaten by a good horse in the latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (50/1 -100%) Ballymoney |
50/1(-100%) | (2) Ballymoney 50/1, Some promise in a bumper a long time ago but he's a maiden pointer who was below form last time. Others preferred. Placed in just one of his ten points and he's not the obvious answer on hunter chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BALLYPHILIP has been in outstanding form between the flags in recent months and the son of Presenting merits the utmost respect in a race of this nature. Focus Point was out of his depth in the Aintree Foxhunters' but his previous point-to-point form gives him a solid chance here. Victor Tango and Bold Fury have both chased the selection home in recent months and are others to note, while Big Girl Betty and Drumnasoo complete the shortlist.
BALLYPHILLIP is 4 from 4 between the flags this year and seems the obvious way to go. Focus Point should be back on his game, so he's feared along with Big Girl Betty.
There are some improvers lurking and BALLYPHILIP hasn't been overly pressed to win his last four points.

14/1(+44%) | (8) Marlacoo 14/1, €1,250 3-y-o, Wings of Eagles gelding. Dam unraced. Cheap purchase who wouldn't make much appeal unless the market spoke in his favour. Cheaply bought as 3yo; looks the least likely of local yard's three runners. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
With virtually no form to go on, the betting market could prove the best guide here but a bold bid is expected from BOWENSONFIRE. Representing the powerful Gordon Elliott stable, he cost 88,000 euros as a three-year-old and he is a half-brother to a bumper winner. Others to seriously consider are Inoue, who cost 28,000 euros and is a half-brother to three French winners, and the Gavin Comwell-trained Tonaghneave Well, who is a half-brother to six winners. 35,000-euros purchase Kanpai is also respected.
BOWENSONFIRE represents a top yard and is related to a bumper winner, so he looks the way to go without the market to guide. Tonaghneave and Inoue also make plenty of appeal on paper.
A guessing game but POLEPATRICK represents respected connections and his half-brother won a bumper on debut a year ago
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
