1st (6) (3/1 +25%) Matwana |
3/1(+25%) | (6) Matwana 3/1, Promise both starts over hurdles last month, second of 4 at Hereford and fourth in a warm race at Newbury. That puts her right in the mix. Two respectable efforts over hurdles, fourth in Newbury Listed event latest; major claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/2 -65%) Irisante |
11/2(-65%) | (4) Irisante 11/2, Fairly useful at up to 1m on the Flat and similar form over hurdles, including when third in 6-runner Group 3 at Auteuil in May. Left Hugo Merienne (€80,000 in July) but sent off a big price and never a factor in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham. This much more suitable. Struggled in Grade 2 on British debut; has possibilities judged on final French effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (22/1 -38%) Volakes |
22/1(-38%) | (9) Volakes 22/1, Mid-division at best in maiden/minor events on Flat. Sold from William Haggas 6,500 gns in November. Failed to make much of a splash on Flat for William Haggas. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (28/1 +72%) Sophie Power |
28/1(+72%) | (7) Sophie Power 28/1, Won a 1½m conditions event on soft ground for Henri Devin on her sole Flat start in France. Tame finishing effort on hurdles debut at Wincanton. Hood/tongue tie on. Won her sole Flat start in France; ran as if something was amiss on hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (125/1 -150%) Urban Hydrangea |
125/1(-150%) | (8) Urban Hydrangea 125/1, Dam 17f chase winner (stayed 2½m), also 1¼m winner on Flat, Down the field in varied events on Flat for John Gallagher and always behind switched to timber. Weak form on Flat and achieved little on debut over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (125/1 -279%) Blossom Tea |
125/1(-279%) | (2) Blossom Tea 125/1, Limited short-term promise both starts. Soundly beaten in both outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (25/1 +38%) Little Lady Lucy |
25/1(+38%) | (5) Little Lady Lucy 25/1, Fair on Flat (should stay at least 11f), successful penultimate start but below form on final start for Joseph O'Brien at Gowran (11.8f) . Disappointing hurdles debut at Market Rasen and cheekpieces are on. Flat winner in Ireland; lacked fluency and achieved nothing on hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (4/9 +63%) Belfrina |
4/9(+63%) | (1) Belfrina 4/9, Fairly useful form on Flat (stays 1¼m), much improved when successful in big-field maiden at the Curragh in September. Sound hurdles debut when second over C&D 16 days ago and she's open to plenty of progress. Flat winner in Ireland; clear second in C&D contest on the switch to hurdles; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BELFRINA shaped with bundles of promise when occupying the runner-up berth on her hurdles debut over C&D and she could have plenty more to offer. David Pipe's filly looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to get off the mark. Matwana has shown a fair amount of ability in her two jumping starts to date and was highly tried in Listed company when fourth at Newbury. It would be no surprise to see her get involved, while any market confidence behind Volakes would be interesting.
BELFRINA bumped into a useful prospect on C&D debut a fortnight ago but it was still a promising start and she's fancied to go one place better with that experience behind her. Irisante will find this a lot easier than the Grade 2 she contested last time so she should be a factor, with Matwana expected to be on the premises.
Having performed encouragingly over C&D 16 days ago, BELFRINA holds particularly good claims. Matwana is feared most.

1st (4) (9/4 +18%) Hurlerontheditch |
9/4(+18%) | (4) Hurlerontheditch 9/4, Bumper winner who, following another wind op, recorded a first success over obstacles when scoring in handicap chase at Lingfield (20f, good) last month, jumping accurately before all out to hold off the runner-up. Can give another good account. Off mark over fences at eighth attempt at Lingfield last month; solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +59%) Idy Wood |
9/4(+59%) | (2) Idy Wood 9/4, Consistent in the main over hurdles last term and made a winning start in this sphere when landing 6-runner novice handicap at Kempton (18f, good to soft) in October. However, ran no sort of race at Newbury last time, so bounce back now called for. Took well to fences at Kempton in October; flopped since but could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/4 -119%) Insurrection |
5/4(-119%) | (1) Insurrection 5/4, Dual winner over hurdles who made an encouraging start to chasing career when second of 5 in listed novice at Chepstow (19.4f, good) in October. Sustained a wounded leg when well held at Wincanton since and remains with potential in this discipline. Listed 2nd on chase debut; disappointing since but retains potential; could have big say. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Hurlerontheditch struck by a head at Lingfield last month and he would be foolish to dismiss in his bid for a double. However, INSURRECTION looks the way to go. Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old has competed in deeper contests than this in both of his chase starts to date and a repeat of his runner-up effort in Listed company at Chepstow two starts ago would make him tough to beat. Idy Wood is better than he showed at Newbury last time.
INSURRECTION bettered his hurdles form at the first time of asking sent chasing, runner-up in a listed novice at Chepstow on return, and having had excuses last time he is taken to open his account in this sphere. The biggest threat looks to be Hurlerontheditch, who gained a deserved first win over fences on his latest outing.
Hurlerontheditch is a solid option but preference is for INSURRECTION on account of his promising chase debut second in October.

1st (5) (11/4 +83%) Jus De Citron |
11/4(+83%) | (5) Jus De Citron 11/4, €115,000 3-y-o. Brother to 2 winners, including smart hurdler Elfile (2m-2½m winner), and half-brother to 2 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Diligent (2m-2¾m winner). Made frame both starts in Irish points. One to note with tongue strap on. Fourth in two Irish maiden points; in good hands but this is a tough start to rules career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (3/1 -9%) Jordans Cross |
3/1(-9%) | (2) Jordans Cross 3/1, Won Irish point in March and ran to a high figure for one beaten in a bumper when second at Chepstow last month. Went one better with his attentions quickly turned to hurdling in 9-runner novice at Southwell (15.8f, soft) earlier this month and fancied to improve again. Point winner who scored on hurdle debut and is open to further improvement now up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (6/4 +14%) Eternal Angel |
6/4(+14%) | (3) Eternal Angel 6/4, €140,000 3-y-o, Authorized gelding who was well backed and showed plenty when second of 6 in a bumper at Ascot last month. Also produced a promising first effort in this sphere when third in novice at Huntingdon (15.8f, heavy) 3 weeks ago and will progress. Yard won 2 of last 3 renewals. Has run well in defeat on both starts and the step up in trip could be a plus; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (13/2 +59%) Groovy Blue |
13/2(+59%) | (4) Groovy Blue 13/2, Well held in Newbury bumper for Emma Lavelle but a different proposition for new stable when winning a similar race at Fontwell in May. Shaped better than the bare result making his hurdling debut after 6 months off when sixth at Kempton (16f, good to soft) recently but others have more potential. Bumper winner; well beaten on h'dle debut but retains potential, especially now up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (16/1 -191%) Barrabooka |
16/1(-191%) | (1) Barrabooka 16/1, Confirmed promise of hurdling debut when winning 8-runner novice at Wetherby (16f, heavy) just over 3 weeks ago, jumping on 3 out and in command before last. That didn't look the strongest of races, but he may well progress again now upped in trip. Point winner who scored by 6l at Wetherby; remains to be seen where his limitations lie. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Barrabooka took a step forward to score by six lengths at Wetherby earlier in the month and is likely to have more to offer, but he might find it tough to give his 6lb penalty away to ETERNAL ANGEL. Nicky Henderson's four-year-old shaped with lots of promise when making the frame on his first start over hurdles at Huntingdon and, with the likelihood of plenty more to come, he could be the one to beat. Jordans Cross is another to note.
ETERNAL ANGEL has produced a couple of promising efforts under Rules so far and, with further improvement on the cards, Nicky Henderson's 4-y-o can build on his hurdling debut third now stepping up in trip at the expense of Jordans Cross, who made a winning start in this sphere at Southwell recently and should also have plenty more to offer. Monty Bodkin, who has had a wind op since last seen, can edge out Barrabooka for minor honours.
Course bumper winner Monty Bodkin could go well but preference is for UNLEASH THE BEAST who can improve for the step up in trip.

1st (4) (6/1 -9%) La Renommee |
6/1(-9%) | (4) La Renommee 6/1, Has improved since upped in trip, winning mares handicap at Cheltenham in April before building on a run over hurdles to also score in a Ludlow handicap (23.8f, good) in October. However, bounce back called for after a couple of lesser efforts. Below best the last twice but finished second in this race last year and is not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/1 -50%) Fantastic Lady |
5/1(-50%) | (2) Fantastic Lady 5/1, Better than ever when landing Grade 2 Oaksey Chase at Sandown (22.8f, good) on final start last season. Sub-par showing in listed event at Market Rasen last time but may come on for it. Tailed off on reappearance but may have needed the run; Grade 2 winner at Sandown in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (2/5 +35%) Brides Hill |
2/5(+35%) | (1) Brides Hill 2/5, Smart chaser who arrives in search of a five-timer having produced another career best to land a Grade 2 at Punchestown 8 months ago. Leading claims despite the absence. Returns from break but goes well fresh; Grade 2 winner when last seen; has leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (14/1 +36%) Effernock Fizz |
14/1(+36%) | (3) Effernock Fizz 14/1, Fairly useful chaser who hasn't been on her game this season and would only have a chance if allowed a soft lead. Won handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse in March but patchy form since and looks up against it. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
BRIDES HILL defeated La Renommee when conceding 2lb at Huntingdon back in January before going on to land a bloodless success in a Grade 2 at the Punchestown Festival. She's not been seen since then and must now concede 6lb to La Renommee, but Gavin Cromwell's mare has an excellent record when fresh and can pick up where she left off. Fantastic Lady could be the main threat.
BRIDES HILL was really thriving and getting better when last seen and, while that was 8 months ago, she's still the obvious one to side with. Fantastic Lady and La Renommee can both compete with the selection in terms of form but have sub-par efforts to put behind them.
Gavin Cromwell won this last year with Limerick Lace and the stable's BRIDES HILL looks the one to beat today.

1st (7) (11/10 +67%) Finn Lough |
11/10(+67%) | (7) Finn Lough 11/10, Shaped well on several occasions over hurdles and runner-up last 3 starts over fences. Bit more needed to get his head in front but headgear may help. Lightly raced 5yo who has finished runner-up over fences on last three runs (here latest). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/1 +45%) Bodhisattva |
11/1(+45%) | (3) Bodhisattva 11/1, Fairly useful handicap chaser but hasn't fired so far this season so easy enough to look elsewhere. Irish stable does well in Britain but he's failed to shine on his last three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (18/1 +45%) Magna Sam |
18/1(+45%) | (6) Magna Sam 18/1, Better than ever when making a winning start for this yard at Musselburgh (31.5f) in February 2023 and good fifth in Scottish National at Ayr next time. However, has completely lost his form since. He's dropped down the weights but has struggled on last four starts; has had wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/2 +40%) Onemorefortheroad |
9/2(+40%) | (1) Onemorefortheroad 9/2, Returned to something like best form when creditable second of 7 in handicap chase here (19.1f, good) 30 days ago. Remains fairly treated and can make presence felt again if seeing out longer trip. Has a good record here and he's a major player if staying this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (4/1 -100%) Chemical Warfare |
4/1(-100%) | (4) Chemical Warfare 4/1, Most progressive for this yard this season, winning for the 6th time at Newcastle 2 weeks ago in impressive fashion. Still looks on the right side of the handicapper after a 6 lb rise. Four wins from his last five starts and this progressive 7yo has to be respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (13/2 -8%) Mofasa |
13/2(-8%) | (2) Mofasa 13/2, Made a positive start over fences for this yard last term, building on debut promise in this sphere when landing a 3m Huntingdon handicap off 3 lb higher last November. Well held in 4 subsequent starts, however, including on return, and headgear now applied. Plenty to prove but has an attractive mark to exploit if cheekpieces prompt a revival. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
CHEMICAL WARFARE's winning run came to an end at Wetherby but David Pipe's gelding did not waste any time getting back on top, hitting the target at Newcastle. The progressive seven-year-old may well be allowed his own way in front and, if that is the case, he should be not overburdened by a 6lb raised mark. Finn Lough continues to knock at the door and could be sharpened up by the addition of cheekpieces. Onemorefortheroad appeals most of the remainder.
CHEMICAL WARFARE has been one of the success stories of 2024/25 and the way in which he won at Newcastle 2 weeks ago suggests his winning run isn't over. Finn Lough has been knocking on the door of late and may emerge as the biggest threat in first-time headgear.
The unexposed 6yo YES DAY has potential as a staying chaser and is the selection ahead of Onemorefortheroad, who likes it here.

1st (6) (4/1 +20%) Super Survivor |
4/1(+20%) | (6) Super Survivor 4/1, Won novice hurdle here in early 2022. Mixed bag since, struggled on his latest chase start and ended his campaign by finishing second by default back over hurdles at Newbury. Should strip fitter for recent comeback (third of 9, Sandown, 23.4f, heavy) and has a chance with cheekpieces back on. Encouraging signs before tiring on reappearance three weeks ago; he's one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (15/8 +53%) Pyffo |
15/8(+53%) | (4) Pyffo 15/8, Career-best display when landing 13-runner handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (23.3f) in June when trained by Jonjo & A J O'Neill but disappointing on first start for new yard/after a break finishing distant third at Wincanton (19.8f). Yard not had many runners of late, but better expected now up in trip. Won two in a row in June and could improve for last month's stable debut at Wincanton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/2 -80%) Bugise Seagull |
9/2(-80%) | (1) Bugise Seagull 9/2, Irish point recruit who won first 2 starts over hurdles last term and ended campaign with good third in Aintree Grade 1 novice. Encouraging second of 3 to Johnnywho at Carlisle (20f, good to soft) on chasing bow but ran poorly upped in grade on second chase start. Not ruled out back over hurdles. 3rd in Grade 1 novice hurdle in April; chasing this term; not ruled out now back hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (17/2 +29%) Erne River |
17/2(+29%) | (2) Erne River 17/2, Responded well to the first-time cheekpieces when scoring over C&D last December before fifth of 18 in the Great Yorkshire Handicap back here. Pulled up all 3 starts after before unseating rider in first-time blinkers 15 days ago. Failed to complete on last 4 starts and back over hurdles now. Has failed to complete over fences on last four starts, but has excellent record here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (11/1 -38%) Quick Draw |
11/1(-38%) | (3) Quick Draw 11/1, Has an all-or-nothing profile but made it 4 wins over fences for his current yard at Wincanton in February. Ran poorly on both chase starts this term though and dropped away quite quickly when asked for effort at Cheltenham (back over hurdles) 43 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Well below best on last three starts but down to an attractive mark and not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (9/2 +40%) Bridge North |
9/2(+40%) | (5) Bridge North 9/2, Not one to rely on but went with much more zest after the fitting of a visor/return to hurdling before taking a late fall at Doncaster (3m) in February when looking set to win. Failed to complete at Perth on final run of last season and lacklustre display on return after 6 months off when last seen. Has jumping issues but his trainer is in fine form; could go well if minimising blunders. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
An excellent third in the Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree in April, BUGISE SEAGULL sets a good standard and although he was already well held before being pulled up in a Grade 2 over fences at Newbury last month, this is significantly easier and he is hard to oppose. Pyffo and Quick Draw both get plenty of weight from the selection and can make things tough if the step up in trip catches him out.
Difficult to make a strong case for any of these. We almost certainly didn't see the best of PYFFO on stable debut, for a yard that usually does so well with new recruits. Back up in trip today, he can take this race. Super Survivor encountered very testing ground on his comeback run 22 days ago, and assuming that hasn't left a mark, he looks the standout danger with cheekpieces back on. Bugise Seagull has some smart form as a novice hurdler and is respected back over the smaller obstacles.
None of these managed to pose a threat on their latest starts and a chance is taken on ERNE RIVER because of his excellent record here.

1st (9) (10/3 +79%) Cuban Court |
10/3(+79%) | (9) Cuban Court 10/3, Bumper winner who ran one of his better races in this sphere when third of 7 at Uttoxeter in November but failed to back it up here (19.5f) a fortnight later. 0-12 since bumper debut win in April 2022 but could benefit from this drop back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (28/1 -273%) Book Of Tales |
28/1(-273%) | (5) Book Of Tales 28/1, Fair Flat winner (for Charlie Johnston) who made a successful start over hurdles at Fontwell in August 2023. Poor run back on the level 3 weeks later and not seen since. Betting perhaps the best guide to expectations after such a long time off. Absent since heavy Flat defeat in September 2023 but 1-1 over hurdles and not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (25/1 +38%) Legendary Day |
25/1(+38%) | (7) Legendary Day 25/1, Made winning start over fences in 14-runner handicap at Southwell (2m, good to soft) in June for Adrian Keatley in June but below par on the Flat and in a handicap hurdle since joining Barry Brennan. May have needed latest run and he's 5lb lower than for his chase win at Southwell in June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (66/1 +0%) Granny B |
66/1(+0%) | (8) Granny B 66/1, Fair winning sprinter on the Flat. Modest form at best over hurdles, including well held on Hereford handicap debut 18 days ago. Soundly beaten on recent handicap hurdle debut at Hereford and needs to raise her game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (4/1 -146%) No No Fizz |
4/1(-146%) | (4) No No Fizz 4/1, On a hat-trick for new trainer after 2m handicaps wins at Lingfield and Musselburgh in recent weeks. A further 8 lb rise shouldn't prevent him making another bold bid. Has won her last two and this lightly raced 6yo could still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (2/1 +40%) Willie Shake Hands |
2/1(+40%) | (6) Willie Shake Hands 2/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Made a positive start to his handicap career when third of 8 over 19.5f here 16 days ago, impressing with how he moved through the race before getting outstayed. The drop back to 2m looks ideal. Travelled well when third over 2m3f on handicap debut and could play a leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (9/2 0%) Lady D'arbanville |
9/2(0%) | (3) Lady D'arbanville 9/2, Looked potentially useful when winning bumper at Plumpton last December. Hasn't progressed over hurdles since an opening second at Exeter in January but no surprise were that to change now handicapping for a leading stable in a good vein of form. Market confidence could prove significant. Hasn't kicked on from last winter's promise but could go well on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (9/2 +72%) Kourosh |
9/2(+72%) | (1) Kourosh 9/2, Fair winner on the Flat in Germany who bolted up on his Wetherby hurdle debut last November. No real progress thereafter, leaving Dan Skelton after finishing sixth of 9 in 2m Huntingdon handicap 36 days ago. Didn't run badly last time on final start for Dan Skelton; not ruled out e-w on yard debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This galloping course should suit the progressive NO NO FIZZ, who has been dominant in winning two of her three starts since joining Fergal O'Brien. Having scored with ruthless efficiency at Musselburgh, another bold showing is expected, despite an 8lb higher mark. Book Of Tales was a ready winner on his only previous outing over hurdles and returns from a break with bags of scope on his handicap debut. Lady D'arbanville is also feared cutting back in trip from a potentially lenient rating.
There was plenty to like about the way WILLIE SHAKE HANDS travelled when third on his 19.5f course handicap debut earlier in the month and he can show he's on a good mark back at 2m. The hat-trick seeking No No Fizz rates an obvious danger, while it would also be no surprise to see Lady d'Arbanville get her career back on track now handicapping.
The progressive mare NO NO FIZZ (nap) readily made all at Musselburgh three weeks ago and can complete the hat-trick.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
