1st (11) (10/11 +34%) The New Lion |
10/11(+34%) | (11) The New Lion 10/11, Is bred to stay well but showed no shortage of speed when making a winning start in a modestly-run bumper at Market Rasen (16.6f) 6 months ago. Good hurdling prospect. Quickened clear to make winning bumper debut in April; a good prospect for novice hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/2 -33%) Belliano |
5/2(-33%) | (2) Belliano 5/2, Black Sam Bellamy gelding who was purchased for £255,000 after easily winning his sole outing in Irish points. Has joined a top yard and is a most interesting Rules debutant. Bought for £255,000 after winning easily on Irish point debut; could be anything. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/2 +17%) Kayf Dancer |
15/2(+17%) | (6) Kayf Dancer 15/2, Has a good pedigree and has made an encouraging start to his career, finishing third in an Exeter bumper and fifth in a strong Newbury novice hurdle (20.5f). Off 11 months but surely has more to offer. Respectable fifth in strong Newbury novice hurdle last November; considered each-way. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (22/1 -57%) Tamarind Bay |
22/1(-57%) | (12) Tamarind Bay 22/1, Showed fair form on 2 of his 3 outings in bumpers, including when on first run since leaving Victor Dartnall when third at Ffos Las (15.8f, soft) 16 days ago. Makes hurdles debut up in trip. Made the frame in two of his three bumpers but improvement is needed on this hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (50/1 +0%) Law Of The Sea |
50/1(+0%) | (7) Law Of The Sea 50/1, Fairly useful staying handicapper on the Flat who was given a considerate introduction to hurdling when seventh of 13 at Uttoxeter (15.8f) 23 days ago, not knocked about. Open to improvement but could be more one for handicaps a bit further down the line. Regressive on the Flat this year and made low-key hurdle debut this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (50/1 -213%) Ballyvango |
50/1(-213%) | (1) Ballyvango 50/1, Fair form in bumpers, third of 5 at Market Rasen (16.6f, heavy) 21 days ago. Should have a future over hurdles. Looked quite promising in bumpers last year; makes hurdling debut after 11-month absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (25/1 -257%) Sea Warrior |
25/1(-257%) | (10) Sea Warrior 25/1, Given a considerate introduction when fourth of 12 in novice hurdle (17/2) at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good to firm) on debut in May, not knocked about. May well do better, especially now upped in trip. Made quite promising debut in the spring but needs to take a good step forward here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (13/2 +77%) Prophesea |
13/2(+77%) | (8) Prophesea 13/2, Successful pointer who made a winning debut under Rules in an Exeter bumper in April. Found it tougher under a penalty at Aintree the following month and has since switched yards (left L. Jefford). Bumper and dual point winner in spring; has a future over hurdles but this is a tough task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (25/1 -25%) D'jo Dela Barriere |
25/1(-25%) | (3) D'jo Dela Barriere 25/1, Displayed ability in a brace of bumpers and a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in 2023. Fit from points when a modest fourth on chase debut in May and has since left S. Curling. Market may guide on this return to hurdling. Showed significant ability under various codes in Ireland but probably best watched here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (80/1 -100%) Dish Of The Day |
80/1(-100%) | (4) Dish Of The Day 80/1, Hinted at ability sole outing in bumpers and again offered something to work on when fifth of 8 on his Lingfield hurdling debut, but laboured effort at Ludlow next time and took a nasty fall at the fourth on his return at Fontwell. Can only be watched at present. Ran well to a point on hurdle debut but two non-completions have followed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (150/1 -88%) Jumble Jury |
150/1(-88%) | (5) Jumble Jury 150/1, Point winner at second attempt and better effort in bumpers when fourth of 8 on Rules debut here in February. Much more needed now going hurdling, however. Shaped well when fourth in course bumper in February; well beaten in second bumper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (14) (200/1 -100%) Formel Park |
200/1(-100%) | (14) Formel Park 200/1, Related to 4 winners and better effort in bumpers when third at Southwell in May. Unseated rider early on hurdle debut and well held at Hereford completed start since. Has cut little ice on her two hurdling starts this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (150/1 -275%) Orinoco Flow |
150/1(-275%) | (13) Orinoco Flow 150/1, Unpromising in points and ran to only a poor level in a Tipperary bumper on sole outing for Gordon Elliott 18 months ago. Hooded for hurdling/stable debut. Absent since mildly encourging bumper debut for Gordon Elliott in spring 2023. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (200/1 -100%) Sea Shed |
200/1(-100%) | (9) Sea Shed 200/1, Clovis Du Berlais gelding. Half-brother to fair 2¾m hurdle winner Marty Byrde and bumper winner/fair hurdler Iontach Cheval. Dam (h97) bumper winner (stayed 21f). Bred to have a future. Half-brother to three fair hurdlers; seems unlikey to meet the standard required on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
255,000-pound point recruit Belliano must enter calculations now under the tutelage of Paul Nicholls on his hurdles bow. The five-year-old was a taking winner on his sole outing between the flags in Ireland and he is likely to be at the forefront of the betting. However, THE NEW LION looked one to keep the right side of after scoring on his bumper debut at Market Rasen in ready fashion last season and he shades the verdict. D'jo Dela Barriere looks best of the remainder.
THE NEW LION impressed when coming readily clear in a modestly-run bumper on his Market Rasen debut in April and is sure to have been well prepared ahead of this switch to hurdling, so he makes plenty of appeal representing an in-form yard. Belliano is a fascinating Rules debutant having been bought for big money following an Irish point success and strong market support for him would put a slightly different slant on matters. Kayf Dancer is another to consider.
Dan Skelton's THE NEW LION created a seriously good impression on his bumper debut in the spring and is given the vote.

1st (6) (13/8 -30%) Quebecois |
13/8(-30%) | (6) Quebecois 13/8, Expensive purchase after finishing second in a point and made no mistake first time under Rules, recording a facile success at Exeter in December. Well held in Champion Bumper at Cheltenham 3 months on but still appeals as the type to do well as a novice hurdler. Easy winner of Exeter bumper last December and a good prospect for novice hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (1/1 +9%) Juventus De Brion |
1/1(+9%) | (3) Juventus De Brion 1/1, Promise when third on both starts last winter, latterly when third in a useful novice at Ascot (19f, good to soft). Fell at the first in the Persian War here on return. Sets the standard. Placed in strong Ascot novice in February and a leading contender here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (100/1 -203%) Hot Goddess |
100/1(-203%) | (11) Hot Goddess 100/1, Just modest form at best in a trio of bumpers and needs a big step forward now sent hurdling. Not beaten far in any of her three bumpers but would be a surprise winner here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/1 -13%) Murphy's Milan |
9/1(-13%) | (5) Murphy's Milan 9/1, Bred to stay well and shaped accordingly when third of 8 in a bumper at Exeter (16.7f, good) on NH debut, not knocked about. Off 6 months. Makes hurdle bow. Third on bumper debut at Exeter in April; likely to be suited by this stiffer stamina test. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (25/1 +0%) Outer Banks |
25/1(+0%) | (7) Outer Banks 25/1, From the family of fairly useful hurdlers Lisheen Prince (2½m winner) and Jumping Susie (stayed 23f). Made frame both starts in Irish points and possibly needed the run when eighth of 13 on recent hurdling debut at Uttoxeter (15.8f). Up in trip. Showed only minor promise when midfield in run-of-the-mill maiden hurdle last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (125/1 -25%) Captains Road |
125/1(-25%) | (1) Captains Road 125/1, Winning pointer but pulled up in 2 maiden hurdles, looking far from straightforward. Point winner in 2022 but returned from long layoff with two poor hurdle runs this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (17/2 +58%) Maximum Effort |
17/2(+58%) | (4) Maximum Effort 17/2, Took a step forward when third of 7 in a C&D maiden in February. Ran badly switched to a handicap at Exeter the following month, however. Flopped on handicap debut in March but earlier C&D third gives him each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (100/1 -52%) Catch Catchfire |
100/1(-52%) | (2) Catch Catchfire 100/1, Well held in a brace of maiden hurdles. Needs this run for a handicap mark. Ran well to a point at Hereford in April but low-grade handicaps beckon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (200/1 -100%) Ironed Out |
200/1(-100%) | (12) Ironed Out 200/1, Showed a bit from a less-than-ideal position when fourth of 9 in a Southwell bumper on debut in June but was held back by her jumping when well held at Stratford on recent hurdling bow. Struggled (albeit on heavy ground) when a big-priced outsider for recent hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (40/1 -21%) Tom Taggle |
40/1(-21%) | (8) Tom Taggle 40/1, £25,000 3-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Showed a bit when twelfth of 20 in Goffs UK Spring Sales Bumper at Newbury on debut and should have a future over hurdles. Travelled well to a point when midfield in valuable Newbury bumper in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (66/1 -164%) Lyle View |
66/1(-164%) | (13) Lyle View 66/1, Runner-up on the last of 3 outings in points and showed a bit on Rules debut at Kelso earlier in the month but is probably one for a bit further down the line. Made only a mildly encouraging hurdle debut when well-held fourth at Kelso this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (200/1 -203%) Scarlet |
200/1(-203%) | (14) Scarlet 200/1, Little form on Flat and finished tailed off on last week's Ludlow hurdling bow. Up in trip. Poor Flat maiden who struggled when 100-1 for recent hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (250/1 -67%) Banny Hill Lass |
250/1(-67%) | (9) Banny Hill Lass 250/1, Down the field in a trio of bumpers so easily passed over. Didn't show enough in three bumpers towards end of last season to warrant consideration. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Although JUVENTUS DE BRION didn't make it far when falling at the first hurdle in the Persian War over C&D earlier this month, he rates as the one to beat in these calmer waters. Dan Skelton's gelding boasts an official rating of 120 and a reproduction of his Ascot third in February may prove sufficient. Quebecois was flying too high on his 16th-placed defeat in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last season, but the five-year-old is feared most on his hurdles debut, ahead of Murphy's Milan
QUEBECOIS was possibly amiss when weakening quickly in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham when last seen and remains a good prospect for jumping judged on his impressive debut success at Exeter. He's narrowly preferred to Juventus de Brion, who has already shown fairly useful form over hurdles and is sure to be opening his account before long.
Quebecois impressed on his bumper debut at Exeter but JUVENTUS DE BRION sets a fairly useful standard of hurdling form.

1st (11) (4/1 +0%) Loverdose |
4/1(+0%) | (11) Loverdose 4/1, Won over 2m on the level in France in spring 2022. Well held in a trio of novice hurdles since returning from a long absence but landed a gamble fitted with cheekpieces on handicap debut at Exeter in March. Off since but type to progress further this season. Major shout. Improved to win on handicap debut in May and has plenty of scope for further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (10/3 +56%) Ventara |
10/3(+56%) | (9) Ventara 10/3, Lightly-raced maiden who has made the frame in both handicap starts, latest when creditable fourth of 13 at Wincanton in November. Off since but yard going well ahead of return. Second in this race on handicap debut last year, form that worked out well; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (8/1 +43%) Imperial Jade |
8/1(+43%) | (6) Imperial Jade 8/1, Progressed with each start over hurdles in 2022/23, ending the campaign with victory in a junior event at Chepstow (16.1f, good to soft). Last season was disappointing, however. Tongue tie removed having had a wind op. C&D winner in spring 2023 but disappointed during five-race campaign last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (16/1 +0%) Lord Of All Saints |
16/1(+0%) | (12) Lord Of All Saints 16/1, Fitted with a tongue tie and showed more despite beating only one home at Chepstow in April. Potential improver on handicap bow. Showed only minor promise in juvenile hurdles last season but may improve in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (11/1 +21%) Dickens |
11/1(+21%) | (7) Dickens 11/1, Fairly useful dual Flat winner. Yet to get near that level over hurdles, often proving too free. Off since May 2023 but he represents a successful stable. Absent since Fontwell fourth in May 2023; current ability tricky to gauge. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (13) (13/2 -44%) Pillar Rock |
13/2(-44%) | (13) Pillar Rock 13/2, Low-key stuff in a bumper and a trio of novice hurdles to date but this half-brother to 3 winners represents a top yard and showed a bit more when fourth on handicap debut at Bangor last month. More to come. Only fourth when favourite for seasonal/handicap debut but the form has worked out well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (15/2 +38%) Glimpse Of Glory |
15/2(+38%) | (2) Glimpse Of Glory 15/2, Shaped with promise when placed in juvenile events at Wetherby and Market Rasen this spring. No match for the upwardly-mobile Mostly Sunny on handicap debut at Southwell (15.8f, soft) but that was a sound effort. Unable to back it up over 20f at Worcester last time and he's back in trip. No match for winner when second on handicap debut but remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (10/1 -67%) Come On Nia |
10/1(-67%) | (4) Come On Nia 10/1, Telescope mare who displayed improved form away from the mud when winning a brace of handicap in May/June. Off since but could easily resume her progress. Began this season with two wins and still has low mileage; further progress is possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (20/1 -11%) Timeforarum |
20/1(-11%) | (3) Timeforarum 20/1, Fair form on first of three outings in bumpers. Looked a work in progress in his qualifying runs and while he fauled to make much of a splash in a brace of handicaps, he seemed to excel himself when second back in maiden company in July. Safely held in first two handicaps but subsequent ran well in a maiden; could have a say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (14) (80/1 -300%) Eagle Court |
80/1(-300%) | (14) Eagle Court 80/1, Fair performer on Flat but no real impact over hurdles. Hopes rest on this switch to handicap company. Five-time Flat winner who has a lowly mark for handicap hurdle debut; needs a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (12/1 +52%) Afta Party |
12/1(+52%) | (1) Afta Party 12/1, Returned to winning ways at Worcester (2m) in July. However, below form since in both codes and others make more appeal for all that the tongue strap is back on. Has quickly gone off the boil again since ready win at Worcester in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (80/1 -60%) Kauto Kawai |
80/1(-60%) | (5) Kauto Kawai 80/1, Runner-up in a juvenile hurdle on debut/sole start for previous connections in France but failed to perform to that level in 5 runs for David Pipe. Placed in France last September but did not show much in Britain for David Pipe; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (8) (33/1 -32%) Baikal |
33/1(-32%) | (8) Baikal 33/1, Dual winner over hurdles for Adam West in 2023 but yet to get his head in front this year and low-key start for current stable. Dual hurdle winner for Adam West but posed no threat for this stable at Exeter recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (28/1 -75%) Cotoneaster |
28/1(-75%) | (10) Cotoneaster 28/1, No show in 3 qualifying runs for Noel Williams but left that form behind on handicap bow for new connections at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to firm) where she found just one too good in a 10-runner contest. Reportedly had irregular heartbeat when pulled up at Bangor. Second to bang-in-form rival on handicap debut in July; had excuse when pulled up since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The hat-trick seeking Come On Nia warrants respect off just 4lb higher than her latest victory at Stratford and a 133-day break shouldn't prove a barrier to success. However, VENTARA was unlucky when bumping into a handicap blot in last year's edition of this contest and compensation may beckon off an unchanged mark. Loverdose justified strong support in the market when making a winning handicap bow at Exeter in March and likely has more to come this season as well.
LOVERDOSE landed a punt on handicap debut fitted with cheekpieces at Exeter in the spring and from this low base, it would come as no surprise were he to pick up where he left off. Pillar Rock surely has more to come given the yard he represents so he's second choice, ahead of Come On Nia.
Second to a big improver off this mark in this race on his handicap debut a year ago, VENTARA might be the answer.

1st (3) (8/1 -33%) King Turgeon |
8/1(-33%) | (3) King Turgeon 8/1, A fairly useful 3m chase winner but bought down 8th in handicap chase here (23.6f, good to soft) final run in April. Since had a wind op and not ruled out with cheekpieces back on for his return. Good second at Taunton in March; can be hard to catch when in a good jumping rhythm. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (16/1 +11%) Ajp Kingdom |
16/1(+11%) | (6) Ajp Kingdom 16/1, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser. Only fourth of 5 in handicap chase (7/1) at Exeter (24.2f, good) 19 days ago. Cheekpieces are reached for now. Second over fences in June but yet to build on that performance; cheekpieces added here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (16) (12/1 -20%) Gingerbred |
12/1(-20%) | (16) Gingerbred 12/1, Opened his chase account at Ffos Las in February and ended last term with a creditable third of 16 in handicap chase at Cheltenham (28.1f, good) in April. Shortlisted on his reappearance. Placed on all three starts since opening chase account in February; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (11/1 +21%) Betterforeveryone |
11/1(+21%) | (11) Betterforeveryone 11/1, Got off the mark over fences at Doncaster in February and failed to stay when ninth of 16 in handicap chase at Cheltenham (28.1f) in April. One to consider on his return with yard going well. Didn't jump well enough at Cheltenham in April; claims if judged on earlier Doncaster win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (9/2 +10%) Magical Escape |
9/2(+10%) | (1) Magical Escape 9/2, Resumed after a wind op with a promising second of 5 in handicap chase (9/4) at Exeter (24.2f, good) on his debut over fences 19 days ago, sticking to task. Can make his presence felt once more with better to come. Dual novice hurdle winner in spring and ran well in defeat on recent chase/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (11/1 +21%) Bells Of Peterboro |
11/1(+21%) | (2) Bells Of Peterboro 11/1, Course winner in April who shaped encouragingly after 6 months off when third of 5 in handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (23.3f, good to soft, 9/2) 23 days ago. Considered back in this sphere. Dual 2m7f course winner last season; recent return run (over hurdles) was satisfactory. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (14) (11/2 -22%) Mumford's Magic |
11/2(-22%) | (14) Mumford's Magic 11/2, A fair maiden hurdler who advanced his form when second of 5 in handicap chase (2/1) at Stratford (22.6f, good to soft) on his debut over fences 22 days ago. Big shout with more to come. Unexposed 6yo; upped in trip after going close over 2m6f on recent chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (14/1 -75%) Leissieres Express |
14/1(-75%) | (9) Leissieres Express 14/1, Ended last season on the up with a stylish success in 6-runner handicap chase here (30.6f, soft) 7 months ago. Much respected on his return despite a 9 lb weights hike. Drew clear to win readily when upped to 3m6f here in March; may progress again this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (12) (8/1 +50%) Another Million |
8/1(+50%) | (12) Another Million 8/1, A fair 21f chase winner for Denis Leahy. Made a promising start for his new yard after 11 months off when fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Warwick (20f, good, 12/1) 26 days ago. Can make his presence felt. Ran big race over 2m4f on recent stable debut and looks interesting over this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (6/1 +50%) Iberio |
6/1(+50%) | (15) Iberio 6/1, A fair 3m winner over hurdles but yet to score in this sphere and running below form when unseated rider 4 out in handicap chase here (23.6f, heavy) on his final run for Philip Hobbs & Johnson White. Still needs considering starting out for a yard among the winners. Yet to build upon last autumn's promising chase debut but on good mark for stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (10/1 +44%) Silver In Disguise |
10/1(+44%) | (7) Silver In Disguise 10/1, C&D winner in April. Off 5 months before an encouraging fifth of 10 in handicap chase at Kelso (26.2f, good to soft) 23 days ago. Ought to be thereabouts with that run under his belt. C&D winner in April; contender if recent reappearance run did him good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (17) (25/1 +24%) In Rem |
25/1(+24%) | (17) In Rem 25/1, On a losing run and tried in blinkers when fell 1st in handicap chase at Worcester (23f, heavy) 13 days ago. Cheekpieces back on now with more needed. Five-time hurdle winner but much less prolific as a chaser, and no longer the force of old. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (66/1 -65%) Dublin Four |
66/1(-65%) | (10) Dublin Four 66/1, Course winner but he arrives well below par, sixth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Warwick (26f, good) 35 days ago. Has it to prove back over fences. Useful in his prime but has looked out of sorts over fences and hurdles this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (100/1 -52%) Kalooki |
100/1(-52%) | (13) Kalooki 100/1, Winless since 2021 and he came in last of 11 in handicap chase at Cartmel (21.2f, good to firm) 101 days ago. Back up in trip with work to do. Very useful in his prime but struggled in this grade on latest outing in July. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Kim Bailey has started the new campaign in fine form and MAGICAL ESCAPE, a solid second on his chasing debut at Exeter earlier this month, may well continue that trend. King Turgeon was in the lead when being brought down over an extended 2m7f here in April and is of interest with Harry Cobden in the saddle here, while Leissieres Express, who will not lack for stamina having won over an extended 3m6f at this venue when last seen in March, is another to consider.
Lots with chances but Dan Skelton's lightly-raced MUMFORD'S MAGIC is taken to build on his promising Stratford debut chasing second and get off the mark. Kim Bailey's Exeter runner-up Magical Escape also has better days ahead of him and is feared most, although a solid case can be made for King Turgeon, Iberio and Betterforeveryone too in this cracking handicap chase.
Low-mileage 6yos MAGICAL ESCAPE and Mumford's Magic both ran well on their recent chasing debuts and may fight this out.

25/1(-56%) | (6) Nocte Volatus 25/1, Took advantage of a drop in the weights and the additional benefit of a useful 7 lb claimer to score for the first time in over 2 years at Uttoxeter in May. Warrants respect but will find this harder. Won latest race in May and remains well handicapped on older form but others appeal more. |

9/1(+0%) | (3) Hititi 9/1, Likeable sort who took a step forward when last seen over fences 22 months ago and open to significant improvement back in this sphere given his subsequent exploits over hurdles. Interesting in first-time headgear. Has developed into useful hurdler over last 18 months; now back chasing off a lower mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (9/1 +50%) Sageburg County |
9/1(+50%) | (12) Sageburg County 9/1, Three-time winner over fences last season, including over this C&D in April. Ran poorly at Uttoxeter following month but he's prone to the odd stinker so expected to bounce back. C&D winner in April and now 3-8 over fences; could still have more improvement to come. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (14) (4/1 +11%) Theformismighty |
4/1(+11%) | (14) Theformismighty 4/1, Expensive point winner who got of the mark at the fourth attempt over hurdles when easily winning 6-runner maiden at Market Rasen (20.6f, soft) in March. Creditable fourth on handicap bow at Ayr following month and is an interesting chasing debutant. Ran well on handicap hurdle debut in April and looks a good chasing prospect this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (20/1 -186%) Eaton Collina |
20/1(-186%) | (2) Eaton Collina 20/1, Likeable sort who ran out a ready winner at Wetherby (19.4f) in February and battled well to edge a tight finish from 7 lb higher mark back at that venue later that month. Handicapper applies a little more pressure but not discounted in hat-trick bid on return. In career-best form when last seen in February, winning twice at Wetherby. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (13) (17/2 +66%) Gyenyame |
17/2(+66%) | (13) Gyenyame 17/2, Fairly useful Flat/hurdles winner who posted some good efforts in defeat last season. Has the size to make a chaser but likely to be better for the run. Makes chase/chase debut from workable mark but is not bred for fences; others look safer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (22/1 -57%) Nothin To Ask |
22/1(-57%) | (10) Nothin To Ask 22/1, Returned to form when close second of 12 in handicap hurdle at Southwell (20.4f, good) in April. Never really involved next 2 starts but back over fences now and he did win this race on his comeback 2 years ago. Back chasing on good mark but both hurdle runs at start of this season were underwhelming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (16/1 -14%) Classic King |
16/1(-14%) | (5) Classic King 16/1, Made a winning start over hurdles at Wincanton (15.2f) on return last season and even better form when runner-up next 4 of 5 starts. Not the most fluent of jumpers over hurdles so no surprise he failed to get round at Uttoxeter on chase bow. Unseated mid-race on recent chase/handicap debut but was agood novice hurdler last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (20/1 -167%) Opening Bid |
20/1(-167%) | (9) Opening Bid 20/1, Taken well to cheekpieces of late, justifying good support in 5-runner handicap at Exeter 19 days ago, well on top finish. Not taken lightly. Dominated from the front at Exeter this month but this race may not pan out so favourably. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (8) (5/2 +72%) Range |
5/2(+72%) | (8) Range 5/2, Fair form in bumpers last season and got off the mark in 2m3f maiden hurdle here in December. Failed to advance his form in 2 starts since but sent chasing after break for yard typically forward this autumn. Quite useful novice hurdles last term; connections evidently keen to switch him to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (40/1 -150%) Stormy Flight |
40/1(-150%) | (7) Stormy Flight 40/1, Gradually worked his way back to form last season, scoring twice at Exeter. Shaped as if still in form until succumbing to a rare jumping lapse at Uttoxeter next time. May need this after 6 months off. As good as ever last season but does not have much margin for error off current mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (33/1 -106%) Do Your Job |
33/1(-106%) | (1) Do Your Job 33/1, Grade 2 winner as a novice. Low-key start to last season but back on scoresheet at Wetherby (19.4f, heavy) on Boxing Day. However, just the one decent effort from 3 starts for this yard since and opposable on balance. Well beaten at Cheltenham in April but was placed off 4lb higher in valuable race in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (11) (28/1 -75%) Thor De Cerisy |
28/1(-75%) | (11) Thor De Cerisy 28/1, Has improved with each run for current yard and gained compensation for a late fall at Uttoxeter in January when bolting up over C&D in February. Left with a simple task when following up there following month but his weak-finishing ways resurfaced in a more demanding race at Haydock since. Dual C&D winner this year (finished alone last time) but would appeal more on heavy ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (4) (15/2 +0%) Can You Call |
15/2(+0%) | (4) Can You Call 15/2, Hurdles/chase scorer who produced 3 good placed efforts on 3 of his 4 starts last term, including when second off this mark in this race on return. Can go well again. Second in this race a year ago and made the frame on his other three starts last season. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
10-year-old DO YOUR JOB faced a few stiff assignments last season, most recently in a warm premier handicap at Cheltenham in April. However, the son of Fame And Glory landed a similar contest from 3lb higher at Wetherby on Boxing Day and, given he has gone well when fresh previously, might be worth chancing today. Opening Bid justified favouritism at Exeter and is certain to have a fitness edge on some of these. Others to note include Can You Call and Nocte Volatus.
Plenty to consider but it could be worth chancing expensive point-winner THEFORMISMIGHTY, whose yard won this last year with a chasing debutant. Can You Call pulled clear of the rest when second in this 12 months ago and can go well again, while Hititi is potentially well handicapped back in this sphere given his exploits over hurdles.
Top of this list is CAN YOU CALL, who ran a big race in defeat in this contest on last season's reappearance outing.

1st (5) (17/2 +58%) Holly Hartingo |
17/2(+58%) | (5) Holly Hartingo 17/2, Stepped up on reappearance when fifth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (23.3f, good) on latest start in July. Has edged down to an attractive mark and will likely capitalise before long, provided she builds on that effort. Didn't run badly on latest outing in July but has basically become disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 +71%) Chatshow Tv |
4/1(+71%) | (2) Chatshow Tv 4/1, Runner-up sole start in points and encouraging Rules debut when third behind a couple of useful types in 19f Warwick novice (heavy) last November. However, well held both starts since switched to handicaps and he needs to get back on track. Tailed off in first two handicaps and returns from break with a lot to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/3 +44%) Solar System |
10/3(+44%) | (7) Solar System 10/3, Has improved since switched to handicaps, third at Taunton in March prior to opening his account in good style with a hood enlisted at Fontwell (17.7f, good to firm) a month later. No further progress when fifth of 11 at Southwell when last seen but this lightly-raced 5-y-o remains of interest Ready winner in April in his second handicap and did not have race run to suit next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (20/1 +0%) Lermoos Legend |
20/1(+0%) | (10) Lermoos Legend 20/1, Six-time winner over fences but he's failed to trouble the judge in half-a-dozen appearances in this sphere and it's probably best to look elsewhere, for all that the handicapper has given him a chance. In good form over fences this summer but recent efforts have been underwhelming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (9/2 -35%) Wot You Wearing |
9/2(-35%) | (9) Wot You Wearing 9/2, Back-to-back C&D winner last November and very encouraging start to present campaign when just touched off in a 25.5f Hereford handicap (good) 15 days ago. Couldn't grumble with a 3 lb nudge for that near-miss and he's a key player back down in trip here. Cheekpieces refitted. Three wins (two over C&D) last season; recent reappearance run was another career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (33/1 -32%) An Cailin Ciuin |
33/1(-32%) | (12) An Cailin Ciuin 33/1, Lightly-raced maiden hurdler who posted arguably her best effort yet when fourth in 10-runner mares' maiden at Warwick (21f, good) earlier this month. Improvement by no means out of the question now that she ventures down the handicap route but a significant step forward is certainly needed. Made frame on last three hurdling starts but not obviously well treated on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (25/1 -108%) Impecunious |
25/1(-108%) | (4) Impecunious 25/1, Runner-up sole outing in point bumper and while he made a low-key start under Rules, improvement was evident when placed in a Stratford maiden and Newton Abbot novice (both at around 2m on good/good to firm) in May. Possible he'll be seen in a better light now upped in trip for this handicap debut. Placed twice in novice company in May; probably needs to improve on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (40/1 -60%) Mourzouk |
40/1(-60%) | (6) Mourzouk 40/1, Now 12 lb below last winning mark but it's been well over 2 years since that latest success and it's been more a case of miss than hit in 5 starts so far this year. Lightly raced and generally very disappointing since hat-trick in spring 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (16/1 -14%) Walkinthewoods |
16/1(-14%) | (11) Walkinthewoods 16/1, Successful over 2m here in October 2022 and runner-up 3 times in handicap chases last season. Badly out of sorts when last seen during the spring but he's on a workable mark and would be danger to all if able to bounce back following a wind op. Yard also saddles Winds of Fire. Out of sorts in the spring but was given a wind op last month and resumes on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (7/1 +13%) Siam Park |
7/1(+13%) | (3) Siam Park 7/1, Plenty of promise in 15f Wincanton maidens on first 2 starts under Rules. Suffered a heavy defeat upped to 19.2f on handicap debut at Fontwell when last seen in April but since undergone a wind op and it's still early days for this 5-y-o. Tailed off when racing too freely on handicap debut but remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (12/1 -140%) Manowest |
12/1(-140%) | (1) Manowest 12/1, Point winner who has shown ability all 3 runs in 2m Worcester maiden hurdles, most recently finishing third to an odds-on shot with subsequent winner Ballytechno 3 lengths ahead in second. Opening mark no gift but improvement is certainly possible now upped in trip for this handicap debut. Placed in two 2m maidens this summer; ought to have some improvement to come in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (16/1 -100%) Drash On Ruby |
16/1(-100%) | (8) Drash On Ruby 16/1, Performed with credit all 4 starts during 2022/23 campaign, signing that season off by finishing second off a 3 lb lower mark over this C&D (good to soft). Missed whole of last term, though, and this maiden (0-10 in thos sphere) is entitled to come on for the run. Ran very well in defeat over C&D in April 2023 but not seen since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (15) (20/1 +20%) Jessmae |
20/1(+20%) | (15) Jessmae 20/1, Successful just once from 8 starts between the flags and while he showed more than on Rules debut when fourth of 12 in a Southwell maiden back in June 2023, his subsequent absence is naturally a concern ahead of this handicap bow. Makes handicap debut after long absence but still worth a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (16/1 +36%) Winds Of Fire |
16/1(+36%) | (13) Winds Of Fire 16/1, Took advantage of drop in the weights when narrowly taking a 9-runner handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (2½m, soft) in July, holding on gamely. However, he checked out rather tamely at Worcester last time and now tried in blinkers, which he previously sported on one occasion on the Flat. Gamely made all two starts ago but his form slumped again last month; too unreliable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (100/1 -100%) Complete Fantasy |
100/1(-100%) | (14) Complete Fantasy 100/1, Modest maiden hurdler in Ireland and there were very few positives to take from his debut effort for new connections at Fakenham in June. Blinkers refitted. Ex-Irish maiden; tailed off when 33-1 for stable debut in June and not seen since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Wot You Wearing appeared to idle when hitting the front before the last when runner-up over an extended 3m1f at Hereford recently and another prominent role is forecast. A return to today's elongated 2m3f trip shouldn't inconvenience the dual C&D winner, but a 3lb higher rating will demand a career-best performance. With that in mind, it could be worth taking a punt on the lightly-raced SIAM PARK, who may have benefited from wind surgery. Manowest and Solar System are others to consider.
The one who appeals most is WOT YOU WEARING, who is 2-2 over this C&D and he pulled well clear of the rest when going down narrowly to an in-form, race-fit rival on his recent seasonal reappearance at Hereford. Siam Park ended last season on a downer but he has low mileage and remains of interest. Solar System is also shortlisted, along with handicap-debutant Manowest.
There is more to come from SOLAR SYSTEM (nap), who won in good style at Fontwell two starts ago and had excuses last time.

Half-brother to 4 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/very smart chaser Cloth Cap, stayed 4m, and useful hurdler Liosduin Bhearna. Makes plenty of appeal on paper. Half-brother to high-class chaser Cloth Cap and two useful jumpers; interesting. |

7th (2) (10/3 +5%) The Final Word |
10/3(+5%) | (2) The Final Word 10/3, £70,000 purchase after winning a point in February and transferred to a leading stable, so clearly has to be of interest. Bought for £70,000 soon after winning Irish point debut in February; with a top stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

25/1(0%) | (8) Rupert's Wish 25/1, €40,000 3-y-o, Walk In The Park gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner/fair hurdler Westerbee. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser (stayed 3m) Father Matt. Bred to stay well and shaped that way when fourth of 8 at Taunton in April. That sets a modest standard. Fourth of eight in what looked an ordinary Taunton bumper (soft) in April; needs better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (12/1 +0%) Allstitchedup |
12/1(+0%) | (1) Allstitchedup 12/1, £36,000 3-y-o, Telescope gelding. Half-brother to 6 winners, including bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Finest View and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Can You Call. Awarded race sole outing in points in February. Wears tongue strap. From good jumping family; awarded race after finishing second on Irish point debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (100/1 +20%) Atlantic Power |
100/1(+20%) | (5) Atlantic Power 100/1, €26,000 3-y-o, £25,000 4-y-o. Second foal, dam fair but temperamental 2m chase winner. Placed on last of 3 starts in Irish points (Apr 27). Placed in an Irish point in April but others recruits from that sphere look more exciting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (150/1 -20%) Suzy Wood |
150/1(-20%) | (12) Suzy Wood 150/1, First foal of a dual point winner. First foal from a dual point winner and faces a daunting task on her debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (11) (80/1 -21%) Willow Caught |
80/1(-21%) | (11) Willow Caught 80/1, Sent off 33/1 and merely passed beaten rivals when eighth of 12 in bumper at Bangor (16.7f, soft) on debut in April. Unable to land a significant blow when 33-1 for debut at Bangor in April. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The market is sure to prove informative with some interesting newcomers on show and a tentative vote goes to C'EST DIFFERENT. Sam Thomas' inmate shouldn't be found lacking for speed judged by his half-brother Avrilomanoir, who was a decent performer over sprint distances on the Flat in France. Fellow debutants The Final Word and A Pai De Nom are other intriguing players on paper, while point-to-point winners Sober Glory and Allstitchedup add further spice to a tricky finale.
Lots of depth to this bumper given the yards involved. A PAI DE NOM is related to a useful winner for the Skelton team and before market clues, is offered on debut. Sober Glory and The Final Word fetched plenty after point wins and are just a couple of potential dangers.
Paul Nicholls has won this race with some smart horses in recent years and his new recruit, THE FINAL WORD, appeals most today.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
