1st (1) (15/2 +46%) Cannock Park |
15/2(+46%) | (1) Cannock Park 15/2, Successful sole outing in point bumpers and confirmed the promise of his Rules debut 7 months on when landing 10-runner contest at Bangor in October, keeping on well. Pitched in quite deep for hurdles debut but he's a useful prospect. Bumper winner; makes rules debut in warm race but remains to be seen where limitations lie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (11/4 +39%) Innatendue |
11/4(+39%) | (10) Innatendue 11/4, Fairly useful hurdler who finished placed twice during the latter part of 2022. Has re-joined John McConnell after a short spell with Tony Martin and she's in receipt of weight all round. Might not be far away if at her best but 0-8 over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (4/7 +77%) The Kemble Brewery |
4/7(+77%) | (6) The Kemble Brewery 4/7, Created a good impression when landing 8-runner bumper at Huntingdon in April and created a fine impression when following up in a 15-runner contest here 3 weeks ago. Could take high rank over hurdles for in-form yard. 2-2 in bumpers; brings bundles of potential to hurdles and he's firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (40/1 +0%) Ticking Tom Bomb |
40/1(+0%) | (7) Ticking Tom Bomb 40/1, Unplaced on his completed start in points in 2022. Opening hurdles run wasn't devoid of promise last month but much more required in this deeper race. Encouraging third on hurdle debut; open to improvement but others have achieved lots more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (40/1 -150%) Sea Invasion |
40/1(-150%) | (3) Sea Invasion 40/1, €38,000 3-y-o, £110,000 4-y-o, Sea Moon gelding. Half-brother to 6f-15f winner in Italy Absolute Silence. Dam 9f-1¾m winner in Germany. Took a while to get to the track after his promising point run and shaped as though in need of the run in a Fontwell bumper last month. Promising second in Irish point in May 2022; well-beaten 3rd in a bumper on sole run since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (28/1 -180%) Tedley |
28/1(-180%) | (4) Tedley 28/1, Well held both bumper starts last season but more like it when third of 9 switched to hurdling at Hereford last month. Needs to build on that. Promising third at 100-1 on hurdle debut but needs another step forward today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (50/1 -150%) Zeeband |
50/1(-150%) | (9) Zeeband 50/1, Useful Flat winner but nowhere near that level both starts over hurdles in February. Tongue tie on back from 8 months off. Very useful on the Flat up to March 2022 but soundly beaten on both hurdle starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
TELLHERTHENAME's victory in an Irish point-to-point back in the spring was impressive enough to prompt Ben Pauling to go to 200,000 pounds for him shortly afterwards and he so nearly made a successful start to his hurdling career when pushing the well-touted Jango Baie to the narrowest of margins at Ascot. The Kemble Brewery hasn't put a foot wrong so far, returning with a decisive bumper triumph here, and is another nice jumping prospect. Innatendue is battle-hardened from some good handicaps in Ireland but was pulled out of a race here on Friday due to the going and if it still isn't suitable, her compatriot Morning Soldier could be best of the rest.
Having changed hands for £200,000 following his point win, TELLHERTHENAME ran a race full of promise when runner-up at Ascot a fortnight ago. Sure to build on that, he looks the way to go, though The Kemble Brewery is a useful bumper performer representing a yard in excellent form. Cannock Park is another notable newcomer over obstacles.
Tellherthename should have a bright future but preference is for the hurdling newcomer THE KEMBLE BREWERY, who was 2-2 in bumpers.

1st (2) (10/3 +17%) Ginny's Destiny |
10/3(+17%) | (2) Ginny's Destiny 10/3, Bumper scorer who quickly made up into a useful winning hurdler last term for Tom Lacey. Paid the price or pressing on with Hurricane Bay too far out after 9 months off on chase debut at this course (19.8f, good) just over 3 weeks ago but should do better in this sphere. Well beaten on stable debut but top trainer hopeful he'll "improve enormously" for the run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/2 +18%) Es Perfecto |
9/2(+18%) | (7) Es Perfecto 9/2, Point winner who has shown fairly useful form over hurdles. Proved he retains ability back from 2 years off when third at Uttoxeter in January but seen only once since, so there must be a chance his lack of robustness is an issue. Goes chasing after 6 months off with a little to prove. Showed earlier this year he retains ability; possible improver now tackling fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (11/2 -10%) Railway Hurricane |
11/2(-10%) | (4) Railway Hurricane 11/2, Scored at Tipperary in July and has finished runner-up on his last couple of starts, latest when bumping into Idalko Bihoue at this course (19.8f, good) just over 3 weeks ago. Unreliable sort overall but doing little wrong at present. Bumped into unexposed winner when second over C&D latest; every chance he'll be bang there. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/1 +44%) Wonderwall |
5/1(+44%) | (3) Wonderwall 5/1, Useful hurdler who shaped better than the bare result when last seen over obstacles in the County Hurdle at the Festival, weakening when blundering last. Arrives fit from a couple of low-key spins on the Flat but showed plenty on his only outing over fences at Newbury 12 months ago. Had wind a op. Promise over hurdles/fences earlier in career but form gone wrong way on Flat this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (28/1 -331%) Mr Saxobeat |
28/1(-331%) | (5) Mr Saxobeat 28/1, Fairly useful Irish chaser who got off the mark at the first attempt at Clonmel in June. Would have run creditably had he not messed up trying to clear the final fence when pulled up at this course (19.8f, good) just over 3 weeks ago but others appeal more for win purposes. Running well over C&D last month until slipping at final fence; might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (3/1 +14%) Crebilly |
3/1(+14%) | (1) Crebilly 3/1, Enjoyed a positive season over hurdles last term, signing off with a career-best victory in a 8-runner handicap at Sandown (19.8f, good to soft, 7/2). Smooth-travelling sort who looks as if he will have a say on chase bow. Two-time hurdle winner & this lightly raced 6yo could continue to progress now over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (9/1 -100%) Elle Perfecta |
9/1(-100%) | (6) Elle Perfecta 9/1, Had plenty in hand when getting off the mark over fences first time up in 7-runner beginners chase at Kilbeggan (19.4f, good to soft) in April and wasn't disgraced after 3 months off when mid-field in Grade 3 at Galway last time. Should have more to offer now handicapping. Unexposed mare who has run well on both chase starts; could have more to offer over fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
CREBILLY was a useful novice hurdler and his first campaign over the smaller obstacles was capped by an emphatic victory on the final day of the season at Sandown. He returns off a 7lb higher mark, but is bred to make into a chaser and he could even progress beyond handicaps. Ginny's Destiny also displayed plenty of talent over timber, enough to earn him a second chance with many following an ordinary fencing bow here. Railway Hurricane was a fair way in front of him in second that day, though, so is a bigger danger. Fellow Irish raider Elle Perfecta is feared also.
A chasing debutant won this contest 12 months ago and history may well repeat itself in the shape of CREBILLY, who enjoyed a positive season over hurdles last term and could have even more to offer now tackling fences. Wonderwall showed plenty when third on his chasing debut last year and, arriving on the back of wind surgery, he's put forward as the main danger, with Irish-raiders Elle Perfecta and Railway Hurricane another couple worth a mention.
There has been plenty to like about the first two chasing performances of ELLE PERFECTA and this unexposed Irish mare is the pick.

1st (8) (11/2 +54%) Malina Girl |
11/2(+54%) | (8) Malina Girl 11/2, Progressed well over fences last season and gained a third success in 3m4f handicap chase at Downpatrick in April. Looked in need of the run back hurdling for her return when 11th at Punchestown and she can take a sizeable step forward here. Interesting Irish challenger. Won 3m4f Ulster National (soft) in April; well beaten in a hurdle race on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/1 +8%) Cloudy Glen |
11/1(+8%) | (1) Cloudy Glen 11/1, Hard to predict but he won the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury on return in 2021. Also runner-up in the Kim Muir here in 2021 so this veteran can't be discounted if on his A-game. First time out seems a good time to catch him and his stable is in a rich vein of form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (8/1 -78%) Guetapan Collonges |
8/1(-78%) | (7) Guetapan Collonges 8/1, Developed into a useful staying handicap chaser in 2022/23, winning twice, and he resumed his progress when landing 3m handicap chase at Carlisle 31 days ago. That form is working out well so he's not taken lightly despite a 7 lb rise. Progressive 7yo who will surely prove his stamina in due course; needs plenty of respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (4/1 +27%) City Chief |
4/1(+27%) | (2) City Chief 4/1, Made a very good start over fences last term, landing a Grade 2 Wetherby novice in February, and he signed off with a good third in handicap chase at Ayr (24.1f, good). Much less exposed than these so he merits serious consideration now stepping up in trip. Should stay beyond 3m1f and he's a lightly raced 6yo with significant potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (20/1 +20%) Peaches And Cream |
20/1(+20%) | (10) Peaches And Cream 20/1, A fairly useful winning Irish chaser but only seventh of 10 in handicap hurdle at Listowel (24f, soft) 60 days ago. Back over fences and no forlorn hope for good yard. His last win was impressive at Punchestown (3m7f, good) in April 2022; hurdling lately. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (13/2 +80%) Dom Of Mary |
13/2(+80%) | (14) Dom Of Mary 13/2, Got off the mark over fences in Stratford in April and he caught the eye after 6 months off when a running-on fourth of 12 in handicap chase at Plumpton (25.7f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Very much one to consider off an unchanged mark. Late gains over an extended 3m1f at Plumpton 13 days ago make this trip look interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (8/1 +43%) Rose Of Arcadia |
8/1(+43%) | (11) Rose Of Arcadia 8/1, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser who can boast a good strike rate, resuming winning ways in 3m2f Newton Abbot handicap hurdle 29 days ago. Much respected back over fences now. Won on heavy as a chaser last term and hurdler (3m3f) four weeks ago; has competitive mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (22/1 -10%) Bangers And Cash |
22/1(-10%) | (3) Bangers And Cash 22/1, Progressed into a useful staying chaser last season, winning 3 of his last 4 starts. Pulled up over hurdles here on his reappearance but should be a lot sharper for that so he's one to consider back chasing. Two wins over this sort of trip last term; needs to resume progress and it may be possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (22/1 +12%) Slipway |
22/1(+12%) | (5) Slipway 22/1, Looked a stayer still firmly on the up when adding the Southern National to his CV at Fontwell in November but not in the same form both starts after. Returns after a wind op now and certainly not one to be writing off. Wind op after pulled up at the Festival here in March (66-1); probably needs career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (4) (18/1 -13%) Truckers Lodge |
18/1(-13%) | (4) Truckers Lodge 18/1, A regular in big-field staying handicaps and he ended a losing run dating back to the Midlands National in 2020 when bagging 3m4f Ffos Las handicap in April. No forlorn hope on his seasonal return. Stays well in the mud; April win off reduced mark; first-time-out record is the big worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (13) (12/1 +25%) Wayfinder |
12/1(+25%) | (13) Wayfinder 12/1, Off 8 months/had a wind op before getting back on track with third of 13 in handicap chase over C&D 22 days ago. Needs to follow it up now. Back from a wind operation for creditable third here (3m1f); this race demands more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (12) (9/1 +36%) First Lord De Cuet |
9/1(+36%) | (12) First Lord De Cuet 9/1, Winning hurdler who made the frame on all of his five runs over fences last term. Back after breathing surgery and he merits consideration. Acts on heavy; fair 4th in Haydock's 3m4f Grand National Trial; wind op since last term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (28/1 -75%) Captain Cattistock |
28/1(-75%) | (6) Captain Cattistock 28/1, A three-time course winner but he was pulled up in handicap chase at Listowel (24f, soft) on his return in September. No surprise to see him get back on track round here though. 3m2f win here (good) in April for the second year in a row; poor Irish run two months ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Guetapan Collonges' only defeats last term came when fourth as favourite in both the Classic Chase and Midlands National, and he took his game to greater heights when winning on his Carlisle comeback. City Chief won a sub-standard Towton before finishing third under a big weight at the Scottish National meeting. CLOUDY GLEN failed to complete in the Ultima at Cheltenham and it was a similar story when unseating in the Grand National, but he goes well when fresh and might be worth chancing with the Venetia Williams yard in flying form. Others to note include Truckers Lodge and Wayfinder.
CITY CHIEF made a bright start to chasing last season, winning Wetherby's Grade 2 Towton Chase, and he is fancied to capilalise on a handy-looking mark and resume winning ways with this longer trip a likely plus too for Nicky Henderson's son of Soldier of Fortune. Malina Girl also looks to have better days ahead of her and Gavin Cromwell's raider is feared most, although Guetapan Collonges and Dom of Mary both merit consideration too in a cracking handicap.
Heavy and even soft ground could find a few of these out but would look a plus point for ROSE OF ARCADIA. Next is Cloudy Glen.

1st (3) (4/9 +17%) Jonbon |
4/9(+17%) | (3) Jonbon 4/9, Grade 1 winning hurdler whose only defeat in an excellent novice chase season came when second to El Fabiolo in the Arkle at the Festival. Took the step into open company in his stride at Sandown when last seen in April and he's the one to beat. Won three Grade 1s during last season's novice chase campaign and holds strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/2 -27%) Edwardstone |
7/2(-27%) | (2) Edwardstone 7/2, Likeable sort who won the Arkle at the 2022 Festival and showed top-class form when form when a commanding winner of Tingle Creek on last season's reappearance. Ended the last campaign with a poor run in the Champion Chase but he'll give Jonbon plenty to think about if back to best. Won the Arkle (C&D) and Tingle Creek last year; leading claims if back to his best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (14/1 -75%) Nube Negra |
14/1(-75%) | (4) Nube Negra 14/1, No match for Editeur du Gite at Kempton last Christmas and pulled up in the Champion Chase on his final start but he has an excellent fresh (has won the last 2 runnings of this on reappearance). Every chance he'll bounce back to form but this looks a stronger renewal than the ones he has won. Has won the last two runnings; tough task today but has excellent reappearance record. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (14/1 +30%) Editeur Du Gite |
14/1(+30%) | (1) Editeur Du Gite 14/1, Took his form to a new level last term, landing Grade 2 Desert Orchid at Kempton prior to edging out Edwardstone in rescheduled Clarence House here in January. However, disappointing in Champion Chase/Celebration Chase final 2 starts and also below par in Haldon Gold Cup on his recent reappearance. Won Grade 1 Clarence House here in January but well beaten on his three starts since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
An intriguing renewal sees JONBON make his second appearance in open company following his Celebration Chase victory at Sandown on the final day of last season. His sole defeats have come at the Festival, when bumping into two superstars in the shape of Constitution Hill and El Fabiolo, but there is no reason to suggest the track is an issue and he has reportedly been pleasing connections in recent weeks. Edwardstone ran no sort of race when a disappointing fifth in the Champion Chase but the nine-year-old, an impressive winner of the Tingle Creek on his reappearance last term, remains a force to be reckoned with. Nube Negra, who bids for a third win in a row in this contest, is a big danger to all when fresh, while Editeur Du Gite is expected to improve from his return in the Haldon Gold Cup.
JONBON has only ever been beaten by his outstanding stablemate Constitution Hill and last season's top-notch novice chaser El Fabiolo and can take his career record to an impressive 11-13. Edwardstone ran no sort of race in the Champion Chase when last seen but he's the obvious threat if back to anything like the form he showed when winning the Tingle Creek on last season's reappearance.
Only Constitution Hill and El Fabiolo have got the better of JONBON and this four-time Grade 1 winner earns the vote.

1st (13) (7/1 +30%) Iberico Lord |
7/1(+30%) | (13) Iberico Lord 7/1, French bumper winner. Well beaten first 2 outings over hurdles but different proposition after wind surgery when getting up in the dying strides in 2m Stratford novice in April. Stepped up again when second of 15 on Sandown handicap debut 4 weeks later and returns as an unexposed from top stable. Tremendous late bid when close 2nd of 15 in novice handicap at Sandown (2m, soft) in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (12/1 +0%) Lookaway |
12/1(+0%) | (9) Lookaway 12/1, Dual bumper winner in 2022 (including Aintree Grade 2). It took a couple of starts for him to click over hurdles but he's been most progressive this season, completing a hat-trick in C&D Grade 2 novice 23 days ago. Handicap debut. Made all in clearcut fashion in a Grade 2 novice event here (2m, good) last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 +50%) Luccia |
6/1(+50%) | (6) Luccia 6/1, 2-2 in bumpers and rapidly developed into a useful hurdler. Good 3 lengths second to You Wear It Well in 2m Wetherby mares' listed race on reappearance. Has first start in a handicap here. Looked star material at one stage; came up short in better races but has to be considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (11/1 +45%) Sonigino |
11/1(+45%) | (4) Sonigino 11/1, Progressive type last season, winning 3 times before signing off the campaign with an excellent third at Aintree Went like the best horse at the weights when third in Chepstow Silver Trophy on reappearance and he remains one to be positive about. Third at Chepstow (near 2m4f, heavy) last month, travelling strongly to lead after two out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (6/1 +14%) Nemean Lion |
6/1(+14%) | (1) Nemean Lion 6/1, Useful stayer on Flat in France for Andre Fabre in 2020 and took particularly well to hurdling last term, culminating in a Kelso Grade 2 win in March. Took it up another notch when readily seeing off Anyharminasking in Welsh Champion on reappearance and likely has even more to offer. Ran on strongly to win at Ffos Las on reappearance; up 5lb but steadily progressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (16/1 +36%) Go Dante |
16/1(+36%) | (14) Go Dante 16/1, Lightly raced 7-y-o who was well served by a soundly-run race when taking small-field Wetherby handicap in March. Better than the bare result at Aintree on final outing and is still relatively unexposed. Had breathing op during break. Tongue strap on for first time. Won at Wetherby (2m, soft) in March; now has his tongue tied, after wind surgery in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (9/1 +0%) Knickerbockerglory |
9/1(+0%) | (7) Knickerbockerglory 9/1, Returned to hurdles to finish second in the Imperial Cup at Sandown in March and bettered even that form when making a winning reappearance at Ascot under Tristan Durrell a fortnight ago. Respected under a 5 lb penalty for yard with a good record in this. Front-runner who goes well on soft/heavy; well treated under a 5lb penalty after Ascot win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (18/1 -13%) Punctuation |
18/1(-13%) | (5) Punctuation 18/1, Most progressive since joining this yard and equipped with a tongue tie, rounding off last season with a win in a 2m handicap at the Aintree Grand National meeting. Warmed up for this with a Flat success at York last month. Another to consider Possible question mark about him on heavy ground; otherwise looks primed to run well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (25/1 -25%) Anyharminasking |
25/1(-25%) | (3) Anyharminasking 25/1, Has a largely progressive profile and returned with a very good 1½ lengths second of 10 to Nemean Lion in Welsh Champion at Ffos Las 5 weeks ago. Likely to go well again. Absent 310 days before his second of ten to Nemean Lion at Ffos Las (2m, good to soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (11/1 -10%) L'eau Du Sud |
11/1(-10%) | (11) L'eau Du Sud 11/1, Useful hurdler in France and made a positive start in handicaps for this yard last season, third at Kempton over Christmas then filling the same position in Morebattle at Kelso in March. One of 2 strong contenders for a stable which does so well in the top 2m handicap hurdles. Has had wind surgery. Ex-French; minor honours in three warm handicaps for this yard; had wind surgery in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (28/1 -40%) Afadil |
28/1(-40%) | (12) Afadil 28/1, Better than result in Fred Winter at the Festival and showed himself to be well handicapped later in the spring, comfortably seeing off 14 rivals at the Ayr Scottish National meeting in April. Did weaken quite tamely when only seventh on his C&D return last month but perhaps he needed the run. 3-6 last season; joint-favourite, never-dangerous seventh of 18 over C&D last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (33/1 -65%) Too Friendly |
33/1(-65%) | (2) Too Friendly 33/1, Firmly on the right track for his current yard, winning 3 2m handicap hurdles during the summer and improving again when second in 2m Kempton listed race 4 weeks ago. Going great guns for new yard; second in Listed event last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (50/1 -25%) Hey Johnny |
50/1(-25%) | (15) Hey Johnny 50/1, Won a pair of 2m handicaps last season. Should strip fitter for last month's Galway reappearance but a number of these rivals look less exposed than him. Twice ran well in defeat in big fields in Ireland in February; needs a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (100/1 -100%) Swaffham Bulbeck |
100/1(-100%) | (10) Swaffham Bulbeck 100/1, Ended last season with a small-field win at Fakenham. Returned to hurdles to land a Southwell handicap in September and even better form when second of 12 at Chepstow last month. This demands even more, though. 9yo who's in good form but vulnerable against the likely improvers in this strong a race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RO| (16) (7/2 +65%) Onlyamatteroftime |
7/2(+65%) | (16) Onlyamatteroftime 7/2, Bumper winner for Niall Madden and good third in maiden hurdle next time. Would have gone close in Cork handicap latest but for hanging left and running out approaching the last. Evidently has the odd quirk but he's a very interesting contender at foot of weights having joined Willie Mullins. Good headway on handicap debut (2m2f) only to run out; eyecatching owner/trainer changes. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Onlyamatteroftime has been well supported over the past couple of days for connections who enjoy landing a gamble. That said, the seven-year-old ran out on his handicap debut at Cork when coming to challenge at the final flight and this would require a fair amount of improvement, even with a stable switch to Willie Mullins a big positive. Nemean Lion came out on top in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at the expense of Anyharminasking and the pair, along with the fifth Gin Coco, are expected to be in the mix. The vote, though, goes to IBERICO LORD, who took a big step forward when runner-up to stable companion Under Control at Sandown at the end of last season. It also seems significant that Nico de Boinville opts to ride him over Luccia, especially with the mare boasting a recent run under her belt when runner-up in a Listed contest at Wetherby.
A really good renewal. NEMEAN LION marked himself down as a leading contender for this when seeing off Anyharminasking (pair clear) in the Welsh Champion and can make light of a 5 lb rise with further progress on the cards. Dan Skelton is always to be feared in these races and his L'Eau du Sud and Knickerbockerglory head the many dangers along with Sonigino, who shaped well in the Silver Trophy on his return. Onlyamatteroftime is another fascinating runner having joined Willie Mullins.
Onlyamatteroftime is eyecatching but preference is for IBERICO LORD (nap) ahead of Nemean Lion and Knickerbockerglory.

1st (3) (9/4 +0%) Brechin Castle |
9/4(+0%) | (3) Brechin Castle 9/4, Ready point winner who looked an excellent prospect when bolting up in a bumper at Sedgefield on Rules debut. A lot more to come and should take all the beating. Impressed in his Irish point and again at Sedgefield; looks decidedly smart. |

2nd (6) (9/2 -13%) Fire Flyer |
9/2(-13%) | (6) Fire Flyer 9/2, Well-bred gelding who made a winning start in bumpers at Ascot (15.7f, good) last season Disappointing in listed event at Newbury subsequently but remains with potential after 9 months off. Ascot winner who jarred himself next time; high class according to his trainer. |

3rd (9) (7/2 +36%) Moon Chime |
7/2(+36%) | (9) Moon Chime 7/2, Trained by Fergal O'Brien when overcoming inexperience to make a winning start to his career at Worcester in May and supplemented that on debut for new stable at Stratford last month. Looks a big player. There's no knocking an unbeaten record after wins at Worcester and Stratford. |

4th (10) (25/1 -79%) Rickety Bridge |
25/1(-79%) | (10) Rickety Bridge 25/1, Half-brother to fair French hurdler/chaser Raffles Capital (17f/2¼m winner) and showed plenty when runner-up at Worcester, just failing. Needs more to compete at this level but significant that top yard has taken the chance. Would have won at Worcester in another stride or two; Cobden rides the yard's other one. |

5th (4) (20/1 -43%) Diamond Dice |
20/1(-43%) | (4) Diamond Dice 20/1, Held every chance when departing at the last on debut and made a positive start in this sphere when runner-up at Hereford. Open to improvement, so not a forlorn hope. It could turn out to be a decent bumper in which he went close at Hereford. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (14/1 -40%) Hazy Glen |
14/1(-40%) | (7) Hazy Glen 14/1, Related to a winner and made a pleasing start when landing a 10-runner event at Carlisle a month ago. Likely to be outclassed in this company, however. Rare bumper winner for this yard when coming clear at Carlisle (heavy) one month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (12/1 +25%) Walks Like The Man |
12/1(+25%) | (11) Walks Like The Man 12/1, Six-figure purchse from points and ready winner at Newton Abbot first time out in a bumper. Has left Milton Harris since but still has the scope for better. £225,000 recruit; travelled much the best when a 2l winner on heavy at Newton Abbot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (8/1 -7%) Minella Rescue |
8/1(-7%) | (8) Minella Rescue 8/1, Progressive form in bumpers and doubled his tally in comfortable fashion at Warwick 45 days ago. Should do better still, so well worthy of interest. 2-2 for this yard after defying a penalty with a bit in hand at Warwick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (22/1 -10%) Daytona Beach |
22/1(-10%) | (12) Daytona Beach 22/1, Sister to 2 winners and justified strong favouritism with a professional performance to score at Worcester 4 months ago. This is a much tougher assignment but there's more to come. Quality Flat pedigree and justified favouritism by daylight at Worcester in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (50/1 -257%) Ballysax Hank |
50/1(-257%) | (1) Ballysax Hank 50/1, Doesn't have a great pedigree but showed plenty when runner-up at a big price at Cork on debut. More required in this company, though. Outran his 50-1 odds to chase home a fellow newcomer at Cork. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (14/1 -75%) Doyen Quest |
14/1(-75%) | (5) Doyen Quest 14/1, In command when saddle slipped and unseated rider sole outing in points and made amends when landing a bumper at Ffos Las on debut for current stable. Well worth his place in this company. Probably didn't beat a great deal at Ffos Las but he was strong in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (2) (80/1 -142%) Boy From Brazil |
80/1(-142%) | (2) Boy From Brazil 80/1, Out of a bumper winner but well-held fifth at Stratford on debut and needs to show a lot more. Tailed off at Stratford but did go off favourite and could well leave that run behind. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
FIRE FLYER looked a nice prospect when taking an Ascot bumper last year and the five-year-old had excuses when down the field in a Listed affair at Newbury in February. Softer conditions are likely to see him in a better light and he gets the vote to make a winning return to action. Brechin Castle couldn't have done it any easier on his Rules debut at Sedgefield last month and he is respected along with the unbeaten Moon Chime and Minella Rescue.
BRECHIN CASTLE has been hugely impressive in winning both his point and bumper outings to date, so he's fancied to maintain his unbeaten record up in grade. The progressive Moon Chime is a big threat and Minella Rescue can't be ruled out.
There are plenty to consider but it looked a warm bumper by Sedgefield standards in which BRECHIN CASTLE skipped clear up the straight.
Ths is the racecard key.
