1st (4) (16/1 +36%) American Sniper |
16/1(+36%) | (4) American Sniper 16/1, Won his first 2 completed starts over hurdles last season but failed to build on his return when tenth of 20 in handicap hurdle here (24f, soft) 20 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time now and cheekpieces also go back on. Inconsistent as a novice last season and it's been a slow start to this campaign. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (13/2 -18%) White Rhino |
13/2(-18%) | (11) White Rhino 13/2, Much improved when sent handicapping last season and he resumed his progress on his return with an emphatic success in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Carlisle (20f, soft) 29 days ago. Hiked up 9 lb but he's a player. Up in the weights but 4-5 in handicaps and difficult to gauge the ceiling of his ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (20) (20/1 +50%) Paricolor |
20/1(+50%) | (20) Paricolor 20/1, Multiple hurdles winner during 2021 and back to his best when runner-up at Chepstow (3m) in December. Below best of late though and had a wind op before only sixth on the Flat last time. Last jumps season did not end well; tailed off on the Flat only two weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (11/1 +8%) Pinnacle Peak |
11/1(+8%) | (10) Pinnacle Peak 11/1, Completed a hat-trick in summer 2021 and back in fine form of late, making it 2-3 this season in 16-runner handicap hurdle here (19.9f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Not taken lightly despite a 6 lb rise. Bang-in-form 8yo who won decisively here last time; some doubts about softer ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (40/1 -186%) Prince Zaltar |
40/1(-186%) | (6) Prince Zaltar 40/1, Resumed with a win in 2m4f Killarney handicap and in good form since, fourth of 11 there last time. Can give another good account after a break. Dual 2m4f winner this year in Ireland; others might be better handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (13/2 +46%) Doughmore Bay |
13/2(+46%) | (3) Doughmore Bay 13/2, Made a winning start under Rules in a 2½m Worcester novice in May and backed it up with a good second of 7 in novice there (23f, soft) 36 days ago. Much respected now going into handicaps. Lightly raced novice winner who is dangerously unexposed now into handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (17) (8/1 -7%) Gentle And Kind |
8/1(-7%) | (17) Gentle And Kind 8/1, Evens, confirmed his debut promise when landing 12-runner novice hurdle at Tramore (21.4f, good to soft) 89 days ago. This is tougher but he has more to offer now going into handicaps. Not discounted for top Irish yard. Tramore maiden winner who could be on a useful mark; lightly raced as well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (28/1 -12%) Whatsupwithyou |
28/1(-12%) | (9) Whatsupwithyou 28/1, Scored at Uttoxeter in early 2022 and not disgraced after 5 months off when a fading fourth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Kempton (21f, good) 26 days ago. Can build on that so he's a likely contender. Comeback run was underwhelming, even if that was needed; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (7/2 +46%) Uncle Bert |
7/2(+46%) | (1) Uncle Bert 7/2, Resumed with victory in 2m4f Perth handicap in September but he failed to back it up when fourth at Chepstow following month. Remains low mileage so not written off yet. Improved this season and back on a good mark with James Turner taking off 10lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (16) (22/1 -83%) Knockanore |
22/1(-83%) | (16) Knockanore 22/1, A dual hurdles winner last term and he resumed with a good third of 8 in handicap hurdle at Aintree (20f, soft 19 days ago. One for the shorlist with few miles still on the clock. Front-running third at Aintree behind a well-handicapped winner; same mark here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (33/1 -106%) Takarengo |
33/1(-106%) | (8) Takarengo 33/1, It's now seventeen runs since his last win in 2021 but he arrives in good nick, third of 8 in handicap chase at this C&D (soft) 48 days ago. Very much one to consider at these weights back hurdling. Running well and won't mind returning to hurdles, but he's hard to win with. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (17/2 +6%) Off To A Flyer |
17/2(+6%) | (7) Off To A Flyer 17/2, Got back on the up with a maiden success in 13-runner handicap hurdle at Ayr (24.3f, good) in April. Looks to have more to offer so he can make his presence felt on his seasonal return. Could need this first run back and chasing is reportedly on the agenda. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (13) (22/1 -10%) Arabian King |
22/1(-10%) | (13) Arabian King 22/1, Better than ever when adding to his tally on the Flat at Listowel (14.2f) this summer and backed it up with a good fifth of 16 to Pinnacle Peak in handicap hurdle here (19.9f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Only 1lb lower than when fifth behind Pinnacle Peak here three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (5) (33/1 -65%) Skradin |
33/1(-65%) | (5) Skradin 33/1, Easily got off the mark in 2m4f novice hurdle at Fairyhouse in October before backing it up with a solid sixth on handicap debut at Cork 12 days ago. Possibilities. Can race keenly and he dropped out to be sixth on his handicap debut at Cork. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (14) (50/1 -79%) Son Of The Somme |
50/1(-79%) | (14) Son Of The Somme 50/1, A fairly useful hurdles/chase winner at his best who took a step back in the right direction when third in 3m Ayr handicap last time. Blinkers need to work the oracle once more. Good third at Ayr but had no excuses and this mark is challenging. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (19) (28/1 -12%) Hauraki Gulf |
28/1(-12%) | (19) Hauraki Gulf 28/1, Bumper winner who has found just one too good on 5 of his half-a-dozen starts over hurdles, including when upped to 25f in novice at Warwick final run. Goes into handicaps now and he's no forlorn hope. Consistent in defeat over hurdles; possible improver now into handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (2) (22/1 -159%) Skytastic |
22/1(-159%) | (2) Skytastic 22/1, Useful form when winning a brace of 2m3f novice hurdles in early 2022. Failed to show much in three runs over fences last season though for Sam Thomas but returns over hurdles here off a lenient mark if the yard switch sparks a resurgence. He's on a handy mark if as good as he was; joined this outfit for £30,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
17th (18) (100/1 -100%) Foillan |
100/1(-100%) | (18) Foillan 100/1, Gained his third hurdling success at Haydock (24.2f) in February. Failed to complete on both his runs over fences this term but has shown he retains plenty of ability so can't be dismissed reverted to this sphere. Failed to complete in two chases last winter for his previous yard and absent since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (15) (33/1 +0%) High Stakes |
33/1(+0%) | (15) High Stakes 33/1, Point/hurdle winner who had a wind op before posting a good third in handicap chase at Catterick (25.2f) in November. Has twice failed to build on that since so he's probably worth taking on on his return. Useful form as a novice hurdler but lost his way last season, predominantly over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (8/1 +27%) Fathom Two |
8/1(+27%) | (12) Fathom Two 8/1, Irish challenger who arrives on the up, getting off the mark in Downpatrick maiden in September before excellent third on his handicap bow at Downpatrick (17.8f, soft) 42 days ago. Has more to offer. Interesting. Irish raider who looks progressive and proven on undulating tracks; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A typically competitive contest and slight preference is for PINNACLE PEAK, who won in good style over 2m4f at this venue last time and is taken to follow up that success. Martin Keighley's charge has been raised 6lb in the ratings for that near five-length win, which could prove lenient now Harry Atkins claims 10lb in the plate. Doughmore Bay rates as the biggest danger to the selection on a workable mark for his handicap bow, while Uncle Bert is noted too.
Plenty are in with a shout. Gavin Cromwell's unexposed handicapper FATHOM TWO arrives on the up so he is taken to quickly resume winning ways at the chief expense of another improving sort in White Rhino. Pinnacle Peak also brings solid credentials to the table for the home contingent while Henry de Bromhead's twice raced Gentle And Kind commands plenty of respect. Skytastic completes the shortlist.
A number of appealing Irish runners are headed by FATHOM TWO who wasn't seen to best effect in a sprint finish at Downpatrick last time.

1st (5) (10/3 +26%) Triple Trade |
10/3(+26%) | (5) Triple Trade 10/3, Gained his breakthrough success over fences in 2m4f handicap at Wincanton in April and followed up with a career best at Kempton later that month. Solid return over C&D but seemed to find the test inadequate, so will need them to go quick. Staying-on second over C&D recently and today's softer surface can work in his favour. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/1 -50%) Calico |
6/1(-50%) | (2) Calico 6/1, Enjoyed a productive 2022/23 campaign over fences and was in the process of showing improved form (6 lengths down in second) when falling at the last in Maghull Novices' Chase at Aintree 7 months ago. Handicapper hasn't been harsh with that in mind, and he's a big player on return. Improved for fences last season; challenging mark but fully entitled to have a say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (14/1 -17%) Walk In Clover |
14/1(-17%) | (10) Walk In Clover 14/1, Fairly useful chaser who has won here and was in the process of running well when unseating here 3 weeks ago. Can make her presence felt if her jumping holds up. In the process of an excellent run at the weights when unseating in a novice event here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (33/1 +18%) Prince Escalus |
33/1(+18%) | (4) Prince Escalus 33/1, Useful chaser who gained a third win in that sphere in 2m Wetherby handicap in February. Below par since but might strip fitter for reappearance over C&D. He was never threatening when behind some of these here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (15/2 +32%) Guy |
15/2(+32%) | (6) Guy 15/2, Winning return with his stable going well at Fontwell in October and backed it up with a creditable fifth over C&D last time. Others look better treated, though. Ran well but was only fifth and beaten 6l over C&D recently; just 1lb lower for this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (16/1 -14%) Madara |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Madara 16/1, First run since leaving Y. Fouin when unseated rider in handicap chase at this C&D (good to soft, 33/1) on UK NH debut 20 days ago, would have finished in frame. Can't be ruled out. Going okay when unseating three out over C&D last month; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (11/1 +31%) Coastguard Station |
11/1(+31%) | (9) Coastguard Station 11/1, Dual winning pointer who improved on his hurdles form when making a winning chase debut in 2m handicap at Doncaster a year and acquitted himself well in defeat subsequently. Creditable return over hurdles at Wetherby a month ago and should be spot on for this. Can strip fitter for his hurdling return; solid over fences last season; good ground ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (17/2 -55%) Do Your Job |
17/2(-55%) | (1) Do Your Job 17/2, Grade 2 winning novice chaser in his prime. Quiet time of it last season but shaped as if he'd come on for his stable debut at Aintree recently. Drop in trip could help, too, so he's not one to rule out. Should be all the sharper for his Aintree run and won't mind returning to 2m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (12/1 +40%) Gold Des Bois |
12/1(+40%) | (8) Gold Des Bois 12/1, Straightforward and likeable chaser who arrives on the back of a solid showing when second in a 4-runner race at Kelso last month. Likely to find at least one too good in this company, however. Fourth last year; returns on the back of two solid efforts in defeat at Kelso. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (11) (4/1 +27%) Ballybreeze |
4/1(+27%) | (11) Ballybreeze 4/1, Looked a nice prospect when making a successful start over fences in a 2m Chepstow novice handicap last season and, having faced a stiff task in the Arkle, looked likely to resume winning ways before he departed at Market Rasen 7 months ago. More to come and very muchn one to note. Promising novice; had wind op and might be better treated than a few in here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (14/1 -100%) No Risk Des Flos |
14/1(-100%) | (3) No Risk Des Flos 14/1, Won twice at Wetherby last season and respectable third at Sandown when last seen 8 months ago. Should be pretty straight for this return but has improvement to find from this mark. Had a solid first season over fences and returns on a competitive mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
TRIPLE TRADE showed a likeable attitude when willingly running on into second over C&D last time and this 1lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to stop him going one place better this time. The seven-year-old arrives here for the in-form Joe Tizzard stable and, with winning form on heavy ground in the past, he ticks plenty of boxes. Calico is feared most after a good campaign last term which culminated in a stab at the Grade 1 Maghull Novices' Chase, while No Risk Des Flos heads the remainder.
Given the way CALICO was shaping prior to falling in the Maghull Novices' at Aintree 7 months ago, he's not been overly punished by the handicapper and he's worth a chance to capitalise on return. Ballybreeze remains with plenty of improvement in him as a chaser, so he's regarded as a big danger, while Do Your Job can compete if he strips fitter for his return.
Most of these have chances but the dark horse is BALLYBREEZE on only his fourth chase start. He could be very well handicapped.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (1) (13/2 -30%) Homme Public |
13/2(-30%) | (1) Homme Public 13/2, Likeable sort who had another good campaign last season, winning twice. Well supported and duly made a successful debut over fences on return at Wetherby (15.2f, good) last month but he lacks physical scope so it's questionable how far he can go in this sphere. Reliable handicap hurdler; jumped well at Wetherby on successful chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (9/2 -35%) Petit Tonnerre |
9/2(-35%) | (4) Petit Tonnerre 9/2, Made winning handicap debut for this yard 20 months ago and shaped well or better than the result several times last season, latest when seventh in the County at the Festival (16.8f, good to soft) 8 months ago (not clear run before last). Built for chasing, so one to note on return. Seventh in last season's County Hurdle; brings plenty of potential into his chasing career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/4 +18%) Mighty Tom |
9/4(+18%) | (3) Mighty Tom 9/4, Smart handicap hurdler who shaped well when runner-up sent chasing after 11 weeks off, unlucky to bump into Letsbeclearaboutit in Grade 3 at Cork (20f, soft) 12 days ago. He's a likeable sort and is entitled to do better over fences. Smart hurdler (improved for this yard) and made positive chase debut in a Grade 3. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (6/5 +20%) JPR One |
6/5(+20%) | (2) JPR One 6/5, Highly tried on back of novice hurdle wins and defied 12-month absence to score at Taunton (16.5f) in March. Took an immediate step forward sent chasing when landing 3-runner handicap at Newton Abbot (16.3f, heavy) and is open to further improvement. Inferior hurdler to his rivals but lightly raced and he looked good on chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Despite just four runners lining up here, this race still appears to be a difficult puzzle to solve with a tentative vote going the way of the Irish raider MIGHTY TOM. Cian Collins' charge was a modest second behind the classy Letsbeclearaboutit in a Grade 3 contest over 2m4f at Cork last time and should go well. Colin Tizzard saddled Eldorado Allen to victory in this contest in 2020 and Joe Tizzard has solid claims of repeating the feat with JPR One after his comfortable win at Newton Abbot, while Homme Public and Petit Tonnerre can follow them home.
Having shaped well or better than the result on several occasions in competitive handicap hurdles last season, PETIT TONNERRE is taken to make a winning start over the larger obstacles at the expense of Mighty Tom, who was unlucky to bump into Letsbeclearaboutit on his chasing debut at Cork recently and is entitled to do better over fences. Jpr One gets the verdict over Homme Public for third place.
Irish challenger MIGHTY TOM posted the highest RPR of these over hurdles and there was lots to like about his chase debut at Cork.

1st (3) (9/1 +36%) Foxy Jacks |
9/1(+36%) | (3) Foxy Jacks 9/1, Ended long losing run in the Midlands National at Kilbeggan in July and good third in the Kerry National 8 weeks ago despite some poor jumping again. His record here isn't great (hasn't completed in 2 attempts over these fences). Capable handicapper but has departed mid-race in his two previous races on this circuit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (9/2 +55%) Latenightpass |
9/2(+55%) | (4) Latenightpass 9/2, Multiple point winner who has taken a hunter here and also landed the Aintree Foxhunters' in April 2022. Good fourth in that corresponding race when last seen and interesting runner up in trip now under the care of Dan Skelton. Classy hunter chaser who is now with the Skelton yard; cross-country debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (22/1 +45%) Didero Vallis |
22/1(+45%) | (11) Didero Vallis 22/1, Useful chaser at his best but had lost the plot when last seen in the spring (bled here) and can only be watched on return/first go in one of these races. Even if back to form he's a whopping 19lb out of the weights for cross-country debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/1 +38%) Francky Du Berlais |
10/1(+38%) | (5) Francky Du Berlais 10/1, Won the 2022 Summer Plate at Market Rasen and some good efforts since, including twice in September. On a tempting mark but he's never convinced over this far. Would prefer drier ground but ran well in this last season off 7lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (33/1 +18%) Volcano |
33/1(+18%) | (10) Volcano 33/1, Strong stayer who is something of a Warwick specialist, adding to his haul when winning the same race for third time in March. Decent enough return at Ludlow but plenty on his plate from well out of the handicap on his first crack at one of these. Tailed off in this two years ago and he's further out of the weights this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (4/1 -78%) Delta Work |
4/1(-78%) | (2) Delta Work 4/1, Won the Cross Country Chase for the second year running at the Festival, finding plenty to see off Galvin. No luck in the Grand National thereafter and should be better for last month's Punchestown return. This always tough having to concede weight to most but his claims are obvious. Record 2-3 on this cross-country course; below par last month but usually is after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (12) (66/1 +18%) Whatsyourstatus |
66/1(+18%) | (12) Whatsyourstatus 66/1, Scored over fences at Clonmel in June but not so good over hurdles twice since and faces a stiff task here. Impossible to recommend at these weights in his first cross-country chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (10/3 +5%) Galvin |
10/3(+5%) | (1) Galvin 10/3, Tough and genuine performer with a good Cheltenham Festival CV, second to a stablemate with an even better one in Delta Work on his first go in a cross-country race in March. Didn't last long in the Grand National but highly respected back here under 7 lb amateur given his good record fresh. 2nd to Delta Work on this course in March; has a persuasive record when fresh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (14/1 -27%) Diesel D'allier |
14/1(-27%) | (7) Diesel D'allier 14/1, Useful chaser on the cross-country circuit, winning this in 2019, third to Back On The Lash in 2021 before taking the December contest here from a 2 lb lower mark. Struggled badly in 2 runs over these fences earlier in the year but should be better for last month's reappearance over hurdles. Has plenty of form around here and should be sharper for a recent run over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (15/2 -7%) Back On The Lash |
15/2(-7%) | (6) Back On The Lash 15/2, Has won this handicap for the last 2 seasons off similar marks (latest race re-scheduled and ran in January). No show last 3 starts but now 2 lb below that last winning mark and no surprise to see a revival. Big player. Won the last two editions of this race but current wellbeing is a cause for concern. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (12/1 +25%) Musical Slave |
12/1(+25%) | (8) Musical Slave 12/1, Landed 3m veterans' chase at Exeter in February and back on track with a good comeback run at Wincanton, helped by a better round of jumping than he often manages. First go over these fences and won't lack for stamina. Interesting. Debuting in a race of this nature but he stays this trip and could have some say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (40/1 -82%) Dieu Vivant |
40/1(-82%) | (9) Dieu Vivant 40/1, Multiple hunter winner who took a 3m Bangor handicap chase in September. Well beaten at Uttoxeter next time and work to do on first go in one of these. Ran poorly last time and remains to be seen what he'll make of this new challenge. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (200/1 +0%) Debden Bank |
200/1(+0%) | (13) Debden Bank 200/1, Fair handicap chaser at best but pulled up last 4 starts and no appeal on these terms. He runs in his first cross-country chase from 45lb out of the weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
LATENIGHTPASS finished a cracking fourth in the Foxhunters at Aintree in April and makes his belated handicap bow now under the tutelage of Dan Skelton. The veteran's opening mark looks workable and he may be able to get the better of Delta Work, who must concede 22lb to the selection. The son of Network has two victories to his name in this sphere and he is likely to be in the mix once more, with his stablemate Galvin unlikely to be far away.
BACK ON THE LASH comes alive over these fences and is 2 lb lower than for his last win in this sphere in January. He'll be better for last month's return at Exeter so a revival is surely on the cards and he gets the vote over Gordon Elliott's Delta Work and Galvin, who are undoubtedly the class acts but must concede stacks of weight to Martin Keighley's charge.
This handicap version makes life all the tougher for the class acts but GALVIN (nap) is usually mustard when fresh.

1st (4) (22/1 -57%) Minella Missile |
22/1(-57%) | (4) Minella Missile 22/1, Successful in April on the second of 2 starts in Irish points and belied poor vibes in the betting to make a winning debut under Rules in tidy fashion at Chepstow (19.4f, soft) 17 days ago. However, the time was nothing to write home about and requires a lot more upped appreciably in class. Scored at Chepstow on rules debut and looks open to further progress; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/6 +0%) Captain Teague |
4/6(+0%) | (1) Captain Teague 4/6, €70,000 point winner from good family who looked a good prospect when landing the odds in Plumpton bumper in December. Beaten only 2½ lengths when third in Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and made perfect start to his hurdling career when winning Persian War at Chepstow on return. Exciting prospect. Third in Champion Bumper; won the Persian War at Chepstow on hurdles debut; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4/1 +33%) The Big Doyen |
4/1(+33%) | (2) The Big Doyen 4/1, Useful hurdler who completed a simple task when making all in a Tipperary maiden (20f) in July. Made the most of his experience to follow up at Galway before proving no match for a progressive rival in a listed event at Limerick 27 days ago. Irish hurdler who has shown improvement upped to 2m4f/2m5f this season; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/2 +8%) Kinbara |
11/2(+8%) | (3) Kinbara 11/2, Fairly useful bumper winner who overcame a couple of cautious leaps to make a successful debut over hurdles in 14-runner maiden at Wexford (3m) in July. Easily followed up in a thin race at Cartmel a fortnight later and remains capable of better. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Irish 5yo who has recorded two 18l wins since switched to hurdles; interesting prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (22/1 -10%) Moonovercloon |
22/1(-10%) | (5) Moonovercloon 22/1, Resumed his progress when running out a convincing winner of a Sligo handicap in August and would have gone very close but for an uncharacteristic jumping lapse at Listowel next time. Seemed to find his stamina stretched over 3m here last month, so a return to shorter looks a good move. Ran respectably in Pertemps qualifier here last time but others have greater potential. |

6th (6) (12/1 +0%) Sequestered |
12/1(+0%) | (6) Sequestered 12/1, No great shakes in bumpers but different proposition over hurdles, improving further to resume winning ways in 8-runner novice at Galway (20.7f) 19 days ago. That form has been franked by the runner-up, so he's not taken lightly upped in grade. Irish novice; has form figures of 121 since upped to 2m4f; overcame trouble last time. |

7th (7) (150/1 -50%) Supreme Commander |
150/1(-50%) | (7) Supreme Commander 150/1, Bought for plenty of money after finishing second in an Irish point but made an unpromising start to his Rules career when pulled up in a hunter chase at Exeter in March 2022 and not seen since. Let down by jumping in novice hunter chase when last seen; stiff task at this level. |

|U| (8) (50/1 +0%) Wild Side Of Life |
50/1(+0%) | (8) Wild Side Of Life 50/1, Easily opened his account in Irish points at third attempt in April and made a promising start to his Rules career when beaten only by one who seems destined for better things at Wetherby (19.7f, soft) 13 days ago. This is obviously much tougher but he's open to improvement nonetheless. Runner-up at Wetherby on rules debut; still unexposed but this is a tougher task. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Champion Bumper third Captain Teague is sure to prove popular after opening his account over hurdles in the Persian War at Chepstow last month. However, Paul Nicholls' inmate may need to jump more fluently in this deeper contest to complete a double and it could be worth taking a punt on KINBARA. A wide-margin winner on both starts over hurdles to date, the son of Mahler ticks plenty of the right boxes. The Big Doyen rates best of the remainder.
CAPTAIN TEAGUE made a highly promising start to his hurdling career with victory in the Grade 2 Persian War at Chepstow on his return last month and, with significant improvement on the cards, he ought to prove hard to beat having already run to a useful level. Kinbara represents a stable that does well with its runners at this track and has impressed in winning both his starts in this sphere, so warrants plenty of respect, as does Sequestered, whose Galway win is backed up by the timefigure.
Captain Teague is respected but KINBARA looks a strong alternative. The Big Doyen and Sequestered are also of interest.

1st (2) (2/1 +27%) Impose Toi |
2/1(+27%) | (2) Impose Toi 2/1, Dual French bumper scorer who made it 2-4 over hurdles for this yard when easily seeing off 3 rivals in a 21f Ludlow novice in May. Lightly-raced sort who can be expected to go on to better things in handicaps. Two wins (easily at long odds on) and two seconds over hurdles; seems to have a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (12/1 +25%) Donnacha |
12/1(+25%) | (10) Donnacha 12/1, Placed both starts in bumpers and going the right way over hurdles, making it third time lucky when just holding on from the reopposing Artistic Endeavour in 2m Chepstow novice on reappearance last month. Handicap debut. Clear from two out in novice Chepstow (2m), hanging on by a neck from Artistic Endeavour. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/1 +23%) Caithness |
5/1(+23%) | (3) Caithness 5/1, Comfortable all-the-way of maiden/handicap hurdles over 2m at Kelso (good to firm/heavy) this autumn. Hit with an 8 lb rise but there's more to come and he should remain very competitive. 2 front-running wins at Kelso (2m); took 15-runner handicap on soft with serious authority. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (22/1 +0%) Mr Mackay |
22/1(+0%) | (7) Mr Mackay 22/1, In-the-frame on 3 of his 4 starts in bumpers and confirmed reappearance/hurdle debut promise when landing 6-runner Huntingdon maiden (19.5f) last month. Found a useful C&D conditions races too hot to handle since but handicaps provide him with more of a chance. Should be capable of better and improvement in his jumping would help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (18/1 -13%) Artistic Endeavour |
18/1(-13%) | (12) Artistic Endeavour 18/1, Plenty of promise when suffering narrow defeats in a Plumpton maiden (2m, good to firm) in May and to the reopposing Donnacha in a Chepstow novice (2m, soft) on return 5 weeks ago. Appeals as one who can go on to better things in handicaps. Beaten a neck on last two of his three races; nearly caught Donnacha at Chepstow on latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (33/1 -65%) Mac's Xpress |
33/1(-65%) | (14) Mac's Xpress 33/1, Fair hurdler who has been placed in 2 Listowel handicaps and a Gowran maiden this autumn. Yet another who can't be discounted. Experienced maiden; mostly creditable efforts of late but he needs to find a bit extra. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (13) (7/1 +50%) Belgoprince |
7/1(+50%) | (13) Belgoprince 7/1, Runner-up in a competitive 2m handicap hurdle at the 2021 Leopardstown Christmas meeting. Missed all of 2022 but has been successful twice on the Flat since returning to action this year. Interesting to see how much strength there is behind him in the betting now back hurdling. Not seen in this sphere since December 2021 but no shock if he's a contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (10/1 -11%) Brook Bay |
10/1(-11%) | (11) Brook Bay 10/1, Expensive purchase after comfortably winning sole outing in Irish points. Proved to be a disappointment in a Kempton bumper in February but has shaped encouragingly in maiden/novice hurdles this autumn. Very interesting now making a quick switch to handicaps. Placed both starts over hurdles; travelled smoothly long way at Wetherby latest; promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (14/1 -27%) Downtherefordancin |
14/1(-27%) | (6) Downtherefordancin 14/1, Improved effort over hurdles when second of 22 in 2½m Punchestown handicap last month. Has first-time cheekpieces added now. Stable's British runners always merit respect. 0-8, all hurdling; close second of 22 in handicap at Punchestown (upped to 2m4f) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (16) (28/1 +0%) Kitsilano |
28/1(+0%) | (16) Kitsilano 28/1, Modest form over hurdles and fences in Ireland, including midfield in a couple of handicaps in September. Improvement will be needed. 2-4 in Irish points; yet to make the breakthrough under rules and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (14/1 -27%) Tintintin |
14/1(-27%) | (8) Tintintin 14/1, Left clear when making winning hurdles debut at Ffos Las last autumn and better form when runner-up on all 3 subsequent starts last season. Looks on a competitive mark for his handicap debut/reappearance and his stable has tasted success in this race before. Has had wind surgery. A debut win and three seconds over hurdles last season; had wind surgery in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) (14/1 -17%) Showman |
14/1(-17%) | (9) Showman 14/1, Improved to win a 2m Roscommon maiden hurdle in September and even better form when narrowly denied in a Cork handicap (2m again) since. Another for the shortlist. Won a Roscommon maiden and beaten a head on handicap hurdle debut at Cork, both 2m on soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (18) (28/1 -12%) Redbridge Rambler |
28/1(-12%) | (18) Redbridge Rambler 28/1, Creditable second of 7 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft, 6/1) 18 days ago but will need to improve for the addition of cheekpieces if he's to go one better in this much deeper race. Good second of seven in handicap at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) on latest; headgear now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (5) (14/1 +30%) Sequoiaspirit |
14/1(+30%) | (5) Sequoiaspirit 14/1, Dual Flat winner in May and arrives on the back of 3 creditable efforts in handicap hurdles in Ireland. Should be in the mix again but might be vulnerable to progressive types. Did well this year on Flat; 0-11 over hurdles but he has the form to be on the premises. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (17) (50/1 -79%) Warm In Gorey |
50/1(-79%) | (17) Warm In Gorey 50/1, Fair hurdler who landed handicaps at Downpatrick in April and Punchestown in June. Creditable third in a Thurles maiden on his recent chase debut. Others look better treated back hurdling but his stable did win this in 2021. Two handicap wins; satisfactory chase debut last time; needs to take his form to new level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (15) (33/1 -32%) En Avant |
33/1(-32%) | (15) En Avant 33/1, Improved when winning a Worcester maiden and Fontwell novice on first 2 outings for Olly Murphy but found out in a handicap back at Worcester last time. Others are more obvious. Won first two runs for this yard; needs to bounce back from a poor show seven weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
17th (4) (28/1 -56%) Barometer |
28/1(-56%) | (4) Barometer 28/1, Fair Flat winner. Has translated that ability to hurdles (runner-up in 2m Punchestown maiden last month) but he will need more if he's to defy this mark now venturing into handicap company for the first time in this sphere. 1-21 on Flat; showed ability in all four starts (maidens) over hurdles, runner-up latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Dual hurdles winner CAITHNESS undoubtedly faces his toughest assignment to date. Nevertheless, the seven-year-old won with enough authority on his handicap debut at Kelso last month to suggest that an 8lb rise in the handicap might not be enough to halt his progression. The 121-rated Impose Toi enters this sphere off a workable mark given that his Huntingdon conqueror Brentford Hope has recently romped home off a mark of 122 at Newbury. Tintintin and Showman can also get competitive.
A cracking handicap to conclude. An opening mark of 110 could underestimate BROOK BAY so he's the suggestion with improvement on the cards. Fellow unexposed sorts Caithness, Artistic Endeavour and Tintintin are likely threats, while Showman may prove best of the Irish contingent.
Impose Toi is glaring but preference is for SHOWMAN who left a positive impression when second in a handicap last time out.
Ths is the racecard key.
