1st (14) (9/2 +40%) Our Champ |
9/2(+40%) | (14) Our Champ 9/2, Back from a 6-month break with an improved effort to strike at the first time of asking for the Chris Gordon stable at Plumpton (2m) in September. The handicapper hasn't missed him with an 8 lb rise but he had a bit in hand and could have more to come for his new yard. Clearcut winner on last month's seasonal/stable debut and has scope for further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/2 +15%) Black Poppy |
11/2(+15%) | (4) Black Poppy 11/2, Took his form up a notch in the spring, winning here before following up at the expense of the reopposing Teddy Blue in the very competitive Swinton at Haydock. Player if resuming in similar form. Won here in April before collecting big prize at Haydock in May; further progress possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (28/1 -40%) Ballygeary |
28/1(-40%) | (11) Ballygeary 28/1, Very positive start to his hurdles career at the start of 2023, again going with plenty of zest when completing the hat-trick in novice company at Kelso in March. Found to have bled when well behind Black Poppy on his course handicap debut in April. Retains potential back from a break. Launched hurdling career with three wins; had excuse when pulled up on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (18/1 -13%) Castel Gandolfo |
18/1(-13%) | (6) Castel Gandolfo 18/1, Has had a good first half of the season, winning at Kelso (2m, good to firm) in May and good placed efforts in competitive races on his last 3 outings. One of 2 runners for a stable with a good record in this race. Has remained in good form since Kelso win in May; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (28/1 -75%) Great Bear |
28/1(-75%) | (5) Great Bear 28/1, Returned from an absence to get off the mark over hurdles in a Cork maiden in July (only second outing for Henry de Bromhead). Not up to a handicap hurdle at Galway 3 weeks later but back on track when placed over fences at Killarney and Listowel in recent months. Won big-field Cork maiden in summer; back hurdling after two satisfactory chase runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (11/1 +21%) Alien Storm |
11/1(+21%) | (9) Alien Storm 11/1, Has failed to add to last October's hurdle debut success but he has shown better form in defeat since and looked booked for a clear second behind Our Champ when falling at the last on his Plumpton reappearance. A promising novice last season and was running well before last-flight fall last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (9/2 -13%) Afadil |
9/2(-13%) | (7) Afadil 9/2, Better than the result in the Fred Winter over C&D at the Festival and showed himself to be well handicapped later in the spring, comfortably seeing off 14 rivals at the Ayr Scottish National meeting in April. Has had wind surgery since then. Good chance there's more to come for top trainer. Ended last season with good win at Ayr and probably still has more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (15) (12/1 +25%) Coolnaugh Haze |
12/1(+25%) | (15) Coolnaugh Haze 12/1, Improved when making a winning start for James Owen at Worcester (2m, good to soft) in August and creditable efforts in defeat since. Interesting having been dropped 2 lb for last time. Stylish winner on stable debut in August but held twice since; improvement needed here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (13) (25/1 -25%) Feel The Pinch |
25/1(-25%) | (13) Feel The Pinch 25/1, Has had a productive time since joining Robbie Llewellyn, gaining a fourth win since March when readily seeing off 7 rivals at Southwell (2m, good to soft) 24 days ago. 5 lb higher in a much deeper race now but hard to rule out in current mood. 4-8 for new stable since March; in prime form but this is a significant rise in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (3) (8/1 -14%) Teddy Blue |
8/1(-14%) | (3) Teddy Blue 8/1, Free-goer who landed a 2m Plumpton handicap hurdle in April and recorded a career best when 1¼ lengths second of 17 to the reopposing Black Poppy in the Swinton at Haydock the following month. Contender if ready to roll after 167 days off. Ran big race in defeat behind Black Poppy in Swinton at Haydock in May; likely contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) (12/1 +14%) Glorious Zoff |
12/1(+14%) | (8) Glorious Zoff 12/1, Rejuvenated following a breathing operation, winning 2m Warwick handicap in May. Some good efforts in defeat since and he shaped better than the result when behind a couple of these at Market Rasen last month. Respected for yard which has won this twice since 2019. Has remained in good form since his win in May but others look better handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (16) (9/1 -29%) Shetland Tony |
9/1(-29%) | (16) Shetland Tony 9/1, Drew a blank in 5 outings for Gordon Elliott in the first half of last season but returned an improved performer for his new stable when easily taking a 2m Stratford novice 18 days ago. Will need another career best to follow up but further progress can't be discounted. Wide-margin winner of Stratford maiden on recent stable debut; remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (14/1 -40%) Royal Eagle |
14/1(-40%) | (2) Royal Eagle 14/1, Progressive mare who has landed 2m handicap hurdles at Kilbeggan, Tramore and Tipperary this season. Will need a smart effort to defy this mark but no surprise were she to pull out more given who trains her. Three wins season, the latest this month; might still be on the upgrade; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (17) (20/1 -25%) Bukhill |
20/1(-25%) | (17) Bukhill 20/1, Added to May's Sligo maiden success when seeing off 5 rivals in a Downpatrick handicap 3 weeks ago. Plenty more on his plate from 3 lb out of the handicap here but he hails from a respected Irish stable. Kept on well to win tactical Downpatrick handicap this month; 3lb wrong here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (12) (125/1 -25%) Elham Valley |
125/1(-25%) | (12) Elham Valley 125/1, Returned to form with blinkers refitted when running away with a selling handicap hurdle at Stratford (19f, good) last month (final start for Fergal O'Brien) but only a well-held fourth of 8 on his recent Southwell stable debut. Outsider. Won selling handicap last month; weakened into fourth on recent stable debut; tough task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (10) (14/1 +0%) Clarens |
14/1(+0%) | (10) Clarens 14/1, All the sharper for reappearance when a good length third of 12 to the reopposing Royal Eagle in handicap at Tipperary (2m, soft) 26 days ago. Will need to step up again to come out on top here. Lightly raced in recent years but looked as good as ever when third at Tipperary recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (1) (66/1 -200%) Jason The Militant |
66/1(-200%) | (1) Jason The Militant 66/1, Smart hurdler for Henry De Bromhead and also bagged a listed race on the Flat in October 2021. Didn't kick on from a respectable stable debut run here in 2 subsequent outings in the spring but has been given a bit of a chance by the handicapper ahead of this reappearance. No longer the force of old but has become too well handicapped to rule out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (18) (125/1 +0%) Ithaka |
125/1(+0%) | (18) Ithaka 125/1, Justified support dropped in grade when landing Wincanton handicap hurdle in March but well beaten in a chase the following month and pulled up on her Southwell reappearance at the start of this month. Tongue tied first time. 8 lb out of handicap. Pulled up in recent race won by Feel The Pinch, and 8lb out of the weights here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A competitive race in which Gordon Elliott's race-fit Royal Eagle is likely to mount a bold hat-trick bid, while the progressive Black Poppy is also interesting on his first run since landing Haydock's valuable the Swinton Hurdle in May. For all that, the field is littered with likely improvers and, of that group, perhaps AFADIL is the most interesting having undergone a wind operation since scoring at Ayr on his last start.
This looks ultra-competitive as usual but ALFADIL does still rather stand out as a lightly-raced 4-y-o who should have more to come for his top yard on his reappearance after wind surgery. Our Champ won nicely on his first outing for Chris Gordon and could be capable of better again so he's second choice ahead of Coolnaugh Haze, another who has made a positive start for a new stable. Fergal O'Brien's good recent record in this also earns Glorious Zoff a place on the shortlist.

1st (3) (4/7 +22%) My Mate Mozzie |
4/7(+22%) | (3) My Mate Mozzie 4/7, Smart hurdler who was fit from finishing fifth in the Irish Cesarewitch and showed enough to suggest he has a decent future in this sphere when runner-up at Fairyhouse (16.5f, soft) just under 3 weeks ago. Tongue strap goes on and every chance of going one better. Very useful handicap hurdler; found 50-1 outsider too good when odds-on for chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/3 -11%) Jetronic |
10/3(-11%) | (4) Jetronic 10/3, Fair form in a couple of juvenile hurdles and took a step forward on chasing debut when winning minor event at Compiegne in March. Has since left Patrice Quinton and having joined a top yard, he's a likely improver on his first start on these shores. Unexposed 4yo who has joined Paul Nicholls since winning on chase debut in France in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (15/2 -7%) Al Zaraqaan |
15/2(-7%) | (1) Al Zaraqaan 15/2, Smart at best on the Flat and completed a 4-timer over hurdles (3 wins in handicaps) for previous yard last season. Even better switched to fences for new connections, completing a 4-timer in good style at Southwell (15.8f) in July. Disappointed at Bangor latest but can bounce back. Has taken form to new level over fences for new stable this season, winning four times. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (17/2 -21%) Walk In Clover |
17/2(-21%) | (2) Walk In Clover 17/2, Successful back in April in handicap chases here (Grade 2) and at Southwell. Solid efforts on both outings since returning from a break but this demands more down in trip. Won quite valuable series final here in April but not favoured by today's weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
The fact that Paul Nicholls is prepared to pitch recent French recruit JETRONIC straight into a contest of this nature at the age of four suggests he is held in high regard and it wouldn't be a shock to see him make a winning stable debut having relished soft ground in his native country. That said, Irish raider My Mate Mozzie boasts a hurdles rating of 146 and shouldn't be written off despite an odds-on reverse on his chasing bow, while Al Zaraqaan already boasts four chase wins, albeit on better ground in weaker company.
A below-par renewal which can go the way of MY MATE MOZZIE, who showed enough to suggest he has a decent future in this sphere when finishing runner-up at Fairyhouse just under 3 weeks ago and now fitted with a first-time tongue strap, he looks good to go a place better. French-import Jetronic falls into the 'could be anything' category after making a winning chasing debut so he can chase the selection home on first start for Paul Nicholls.
My Mate Mozzie has a tendency to finish weakly and is opposed with four-time chase winner AL ZARAQAAN.

1st (2) (11/4 +39%) Encanto Bruno |
11/4(+39%) | (2) Encanto Bruno 11/4, Smart dual bumper winner who hacked up on his Bellewstown hurdling debut (16.8f) in July. Proved a big let-down at Galway next time but was found to be blowing hard post-race and remains capable of better now setting out for a new stable (has left John McConnell). Course bumper winner; won easily on hurdle debut; something amiss last time; stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (7/1 -40%) Mel Monroe |
7/1(-40%) | (9) Mel Monroe 7/1, Runner-up sole outing in bumpers and built on hurdling debut promise when easily landing 10-runner maiden at Downpatrick (18.8f, good to soft) in June. Will go on improving. Easily won Downpatrick maiden in June and is open to significant further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (3/1 +25%) Tag Man |
3/1(+25%) | (3) Tag Man 3/1, Bumper winner who didn't need to improve to get off the mark over hurdles in 18-runner maiden (4/6) at Listowel (20f, soft) 35 days ago, cruising clear before blundering last. Ought to give another good account. Bumped into some good horses before last month's comfortable win at Listowel. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (18/1 -64%) Push The Button |
18/1(-64%) | (4) Push The Button 18/1, Displayed a likeable attitude to get off the mark at the third attempt in bumpers at Bangor (16.7f) in April and looked a nice prospect when following up on his Worcester hurdling debut (20f) 4 weeks ago. Better to come. Improved to make winning hurdle debut at Worcester last month; others look stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (7/2 -27%) El Elefante |
7/2(-27%) | (8) El Elefante 7/2, Runner-up sole start in Irish points and fairly useful form when making all both bumper outings. Could hardly have been more impressive switched to hurdling when thrashing 3 previous winners at Perth (20.2f) last month and seems sure to go on to better things. Dual bumper winner; cruised clear to win easily by 24l on last month's hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (25/1 -194%) Isaac Des Obeaux |
25/1(-194%) | (6) Isaac Des Obeaux 25/1, Looked a good prospect when making a winning debut in a Chepstow bumper last November. A shade disappointing both starts since, but is from the family of useful hurdler/top-class chaser (stays 3¼m) Clan des Obeaux, so can't be written off now switching to hurdles. Has had a breathing op. Won Chepstow bumper last November; below that form twice since but had summer wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (16/1 +11%) Everyonesgame |
16/1(+11%) | (1) Everyonesgame 16/1, Found some improvement to record a third win over hurdles at Worcester in June but was well below form in the Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen when last seen. Tongue strap reapplied. Three wins this season, one gained in a Class 2 handicap; can make his presence felt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (13/2 +41%) Katate Dori |
13/2(+41%) | (7) Katate Dori 13/2, Confirmed previous promise in bumpers when off the mark at the third attempt (8/13) at Market Rasen (16.6f, soft) in March. Stable has hit the ground running this autumn and he's an interesting hurdling debutant up in trip. Market Rasen bumper winner; tossed into a strong race on seasonal/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (150/1 -127%) Here Comes Georgie |
150/1(-127%) | (5) Here Comes Georgie 150/1, Has shown ability in a bumper and a brace of maiden hurdles but is probably more one for handicaps after this. Began hurdling career with two quite promising runs but has a lot to find here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
MEL MONROE is Gordon Elliott's sole representative from a host of pre-race entries and the mare could take some stopping in receipt of allowances after really catching the eye with an emphatic win in the mud at Downpatrick last time out in June. Irish compatriot Tag Man makes obvious appeal after defying a bad mistake to win comfortably at Listowel last month, while it will be interesting to see how the unexposed El Elefante goes now upped significantly in grade.
It's hard to know exactly what EL ELEFANTE achieved in scoring by a wide margin on her Perth hurdling debut, but she really impressed with how she powered clear in the straight and looks the type to go on to better things. Encanto Bruno proved a big let-down at Galway, but he was mightily impressive at Bellewstown prior to that, so can be given another chance, while Katate Dori is an interesting newcomer to this sphere for a yard that has started the autumn well.
It might pay to give another chance to ENCANTO BRUNO, who was seriously impressive when winning on his hurdling debut two starts ago.

1st (7) (5/1 +29%) Idalko Bihoue |
5/1(+29%) | (7) Idalko Bihoue 5/1, Scored on his Worcester hurdling debut (20f) in 2022 and also a fine third in Newbury's Challow but he was well below that level subsequently. 5/2 favourite for his chasing debut but fell ninth in 2m4f Warwick handicap 22 days ago. More is needed. Lost way last season and fell on chasing debut but has plenty of time to get back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (8.5/1 +15%) Railway Hurricane |
8.5/1(+15%) | (3) Railway Hurricane 8.5/1, Scored at Tipperary in July and also a good second of 6 in handicap chase at Gowran (20f, heavy) 27 days ago. Unreliable sort overall though and has found less than seems likely in a finish. Eventually off the mark over fences in July; others have a lot more potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/1 +36%) Way Out |
7/1(+36%) | (5) Way Out 7/1, Irish point winner who has won his last 3 starts over hurdles from the front, latest in 2m2f Newton Abbot novice in September. A winning Irish pointer too so needs considering on his first go over fences. Won last three hurdle races but recent 13lb rise asks a lot of him on this chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (6.5/1 -8%) Moon Hunter |
6.5/1(-8%) | (4) Moon Hunter 6.5/1, Winning pointer who landed first 2 starts over hurdles. Signed off last season with a creditable mid-field effort in 3m Aintree handicap hurdle in April and this winning pointer can't be ruled out on his chasing debut. Point winner; quickly developed into useful novice hurdler last season; chase debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (4/1 +38%) Atlanta Brave |
4/1(+38%) | (8) Atlanta Brave 4/1, Irish point winner who made a bright start over hurdles last season, landing novices at Chepstow and Hereford (21.7f) in January. Drop in trip wasn't ideal on handicap debut at Newbury and he remains with potential over fences. Point winner; 2-4 over hurdles last season; open to significant improvement over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (7/1 +30%) Hurricane Bay |
7/1(+30%) | (2) Hurricane Bay 7/1, Showed fair form in bumpers and upped his game when sent hurdling, scoring twice and also a fine third in the Grade 2 River Don at Doncaster in January. Much respected now going chasing. 2-7 over hurdles last season; placed in 3m Grade 2 in January; a possible on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (9/2 -64%) Ginny's Destiny |
9/2(-64%) | (1) Ginny's Destiny 9/2, Bumper scorer who quickly made up into a useful winning hurdler last term for Tom Lacey. Not at his best when a remote third in Huntingdon listed event on his final run but he's the sort to do well now starting out over fences for his new yard. Interesting. Grade 2-placed novice hurdler last season; makes stable/chase/handicap debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (14/1 -40%) Downtown Queen |
14/1(-40%) | (11) Downtown Queen 14/1, A fairly useful hurdles winner who is on the up over fences, going in readily at Wexford (19.6f) before a good third of 7 in handicap at Roscommon (21.3f, soft) last month. This Irish raider merits serious consideration. Jumped well when winning at Wexford last month but will need to improve again here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (25/1 -79%) Mr Saxobeat |
25/1(-79%) | (6) Mr Saxobeat 25/1, A fairly useful Irish chaser who got off the mark at the first attempt at Clonmel in June. Posted a good third of 5 in novice at Sligo (21.2f, heavy) 30 days ago so he's no forlorn hope. Has remained in good form since winning chase debut in June but others appeal more. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A runner-up in the Grade 2 Leamington Novices' Hurdle on his penultimate start, GINNY'S DESTINY carries some useful form into the next phase of his career and could well make a winning start over fences on his debut run for the powerful Paul Nicholls yard. Hurricane Bay is another useful hurdler to bear in mind now switched to the larger obstacles, while Irish raider Railway Hurricane is also feared with ground conditions sure to suit.
GINNY'S DESTINY made up into a useful hurdler in a short space of time for Tom Lacey last term and now under the tutelage of Paul Nicholls is fancied to make a winning start over fences in a most intriguing novice handicap chase. Downtown Queen is feared most with experience on her side and rates the chief threat of the Irish-trained trio ahead of Moon Hunter, Passing Well and Atlanta Brave who all bring a fair bit of potential.

1st (5) (9/2 +18%) Lookaway |
9/2(+18%) | (5) Lookaway 9/2, Dual bumper winner in 2022 (including Aintree Grade 2) who opened his hurdles account at the fourth time of asking at Uttoxeter in May. Followed up with any amount in hand back at Uttoxeter (19.9f) 2 weeks later and he could still have more to offer. Won two easy races in May but his bumper form was very good; retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/1 -100%) Kamsinas |
7/1(-100%) | (4) Kamsinas 7/1, Fairly useful bumper winner and, after 6 months off, made an impressive start over hurdles when landing the odds in Worcester novice 15 days ago, jumping on at the last and cruising clear. Leading contender with progress to come. Bumper/novice winner; like a lot of these, he's thoroughly unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (22/1 +12%) Idy Wood |
22/1(+12%) | (3) Idy Wood 22/1, Made the frame both starts in points and off the mark at the first atttempt under Rules in bumper at Newbury in February. Also scored on his hurdling debut in novice at Fontwell (17.7f) 3 weeks ago, staying on well, but more required in this company. Newbury bumper winner who was nicely on top in the finish on hurdling debut at Fontwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (11/4 +21%) Williethebuilder |
11/4(+21%) | (8) Williethebuilder 11/4, Placed on sole outing in Irish points and shaped encouragingly both starts in bumpers in April for Declan Queally. Built on that promise making his stable/hurdling debut when easily winning Uttoxeter novice last month, so he could be capable of making his presence felt. Second in a notable bumper in Ireland; hosed up on hurdle/stable debut at Uttoxeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (13/8 +41%) Toto Too |
13/8(+41%) | (7) Toto Too 13/8, Runner-up in bumper at Galway on debut in August and confirmed that promise when going one better at Killarney later in the month. Switched to hurdles, looked a useful prospect when scoring comfortably in Navan maiden 41 days ago and he's not one to take lightly. Won a bumper and a maiden hurdle in Ireland; interesting with his unexposed profile. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (15/2 -67%) Act Of Authority |
15/2(-67%) | (1) Act Of Authority 15/2, Winner of sole outing in points and shaped well when runner-up both starts in bumpers last season. After 7 months off, created a good impression when making a winning debut over hurdles in maiden at Bangor 23 days ago. Merits consideration. Strolled home by 14l on his switch to hurdles at Bangor despite some novicey jumping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (33/1 -18%) Parade Away |
33/1(-18%) | (6) Parade Away 33/1, Runner-up only outing in points and progressive in bumpers, getting off the mark in good style at Stratford in May. Completed a simple task when beating his sole rival at Hereford on hurdling debut 10 days ago, so he faces a much tougher challenge this time. Others have achieved more but he's very much heading in the right direction. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (28/1 +15%) Enthused |
28/1(+15%) | (2) Enthused 28/1, Has thrived this year, gaining a fifth win of the campaign in handicap at Huntingdon 10 days ago, going on before 2 out and drawing clear flat. Will need to find more again as he goes up in grade taking on more lightly-raced rivals. The only of these with a Flat background and he's taken well to hurdling. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
The bumper form shown by KAMSINAS is starting to work out well and, having registered a bloodless success on his debut over hurdles at Worcester 15 days ago, the Fergal O'Brien-trained six-year-old looks a novice to follow with interest at present. This is a good deal tougher and last-time-out winners Act Of Authority and Lookaway both command respect despite stepping up in class. The hat-trick chasing Enthused is also dangerous to omit from the equation based on his consistent profile, while Irish raider Toto Too is another to note.
KAMSINAS created an excellent impression when making a winning start over hurdles at Worcester 15 days ago, impressing with how he travelled through the race, so he can build on that first effort to score again. Irish-challenger Toto Too also looked a useful prospect when successful on his hurdling debut and is respected, with Act of Authority another to take into account.
This is a dangerous betting heat with so many unexposed, but TOTO TOO is seemingly held in some regard by his shrewd Irish trainer.

9/1(-50%) | (15) Mole Court 9/1, Has made a positive start to chasing career, completing a hat-trick in ready fashion (jumped well) at Stratford 85 days ago. Open to further improvement in this sphere and has top amateur booked, so makes plenty of appeal.rip but seems sure to go well. Improving 6yo on a four-timer and he might well improve again for this longer trip. |

33/1(+18%) | (17) Midnight Our Fred 33/1, Arrives on the back of a tame effort over hurdles but shaped better than the result on both chase outings prior to that, so warrants a market check. Well held in two beginners' chases and this place will test his technique. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (33/1 -32%) Wick Green |
33/1(-32%) | (6) Wick Green 33/1, Thriving since joining Ben Pauling, already a three-time winner for the yard and shaped as if still in top form when third at Southwell 101 days ago. May get back on the up after a break. Collective rise of 13lb was a likely factor in him coming up short in a Class 3 last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (7/1 -27%) Strictlyadancer |
7/1(-27%) | (7) Strictlyadancer 7/1, Patiently-ridden chaser who completed the hat-trick with something to spare at Haydock last November. Not in same form since but dropped to lenient mark and should go well with reappearance under his belt. His win in this two years ago was the first leg of a hat-trick; back on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (12/1 +25%) Court Master |
12/1(+25%) | (2) Court Master 12/1, One-time useful chaser for Michael Scudamore and best effort for present yard when runner-up in class 2 handicap at Uttoxeter (26f) in July. Still in front when unseating 4 out at Bangor (3m) in September and he's 4 lb below last winning mark. Beaten when unseating latest; at his best in dominating small fields on goodish ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (9/1 +36%) One True King |
9/1(+36%) | (5) One True King 9/1, Has slipped to a handy mark and returned to form when third in handicap at Market Rasen last time. Claims if he can build on that but his jumping doesn't always hold up. Unlikely to strip any fitter for latest run and perhaps best over shorter trips than this.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (20) (66/1 -100%) Light Flicker |
66/1(-100%) | (20) Light Flicker 66/1, Enjoyed a productive 2021/22 season, winning 3 handicap chases at up to 26.9f. Mostly respectable efforts last campaign but will probably need his first run for 10 months. Form can be up and down and his record after a break isn't the best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (11/2 +45%) Bells Of Peterboro |
11/2(+45%) | (13) Bells Of Peterboro 11/2, Consistent sort who again made the frame when third in 7-runner event at Newton Abbot 25 days ago. Others look better treated, however. Yet to win over fences but has threatened and he's on a good mark; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (14/1 +30%) Good Work |
14/1(+30%) | (11) Good Work 14/1, Runner-up 6 times last season and easy to excuse a lesser run over hurdles 179 days ago. Should be suited by this sort of environment (travels well) but he's clearly not the easiest to win with. Runner-up in six consecutive chases last season; on a tough mark but stable in form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (18) (18/1 +10%) Enemenemynemo |
18/1(+10%) | (18) Enemenemynemo 18/1, Took his form up a notch when getting off the mark in 4-runner handicap chase at Perth (2½m) in July. Solid efforts both starts since and should give another good account. Comes here in a good run of form but there are stamina doubts over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (25/1 -25%) Innisfree Lad |
25/1(-25%) | (12) Innisfree Lad 25/1, Has slipped to a reasonable mark and liable to have needed his comeback run at Newton Abbot. Into the twilight of his career now but capable of featuring if there's still some life in him. He's a thorough stayer who lurks on a dangerous mark; good jockey booking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (3) (22/1 +0%) Almazhar Garde |
22/1(+0%) | (3) Almazhar Garde 22/1, Fairly useful chaser who comes here on a losing run and wasn't on his game when last seen over hurdles 5 months ago. Others make more appeal. Beaten at this meeting the last two years on returning from a break and others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) (15/2 +38%) Bella Bliss |
15/2(+38%) | (9) Bella Bliss 15/2, Won first 2 starts over fences (finished alone on second occasion) and has remained in good heart, stiff task when third in a listed contest at Cheptsow on return. Improving Irish chaser who ran as well as she was entitled to in a Listed last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (1) (10/1 +17%) Herewegohoney |
10/1(+17%) | (1) Herewegohoney 10/1, Made a winning chase debut at Catterick in November and firmly back on track when scoring in 5-runner contest at Market Rasen 110 days ago. Primed for a big run. Won easily at Market Rasen but she's 10lb higher in a much deeper race this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (14) (12/1 -9%) Destiny Is All |
12/1(-9%) | (14) Destiny Is All 12/1, Consistent performer who was back to winning ways in a 5-runner contest at Kelso 19 days ago. Should put up another solid showing, so deserves respect. Stays 3m5f and needed every yard of the 3m2f to reel in the leader at Kelso; up only 2lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (4) (12/1 -33%) Tim Pat |
12/1(-33%) | (4) Tim Pat 12/1, Completed a hat-trick at Haydock in early 2022 but winless since and largely below par last term. Others are preferred. Dual chase winner but hard draw upon too many positives from his last three runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (10) (12/1 -9%) Arctic Ambition |
12/1(-9%) | (10) Arctic Ambition 12/1, Boasts a good strike rate for his current stable and shaped as if still in good order when third at Galways last time. Strong gallop would suit, so he's capable of getting involved. Peak RPR came over 2m5f and others might be stronger when it matters. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (12/1 +0%) Menindee |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Menindee 12/1, 3 wins from 6 runs this season. Career best when winning 7-runner handicap chase (9/2) at Roscommon (21.3f, soft) 32 days ago, forging clear. Going the right way as a chaser and, while this is much more competitive than last time, he's not one to rule out. Northern Irish challenger for whom a thorough test around here should be up her street. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (16) (50/1 -257%) Jony Max |
50/1(-257%) | (16) Jony Max 50/1, Won at Newton Abbot in early-2022/23. Has largely remained in form since, run best excused under change of tactics when 38 lengths seventh of 8 to Landofsmiles at Cartmel last time. Not completely dismissed. Beaten 17l into fourth in this 12 months ago off a similar mark; needs good ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
MOLE COURT has had a tremendous starts to his chasing career and this represents another step up the ladder for Ben Pauling's charge. Being a son of Court Cave, the rise in trip should hold no fear and he can land the four-timer at the main expense of progressive Irish raider Menindee and Court Master, who has done well since joining new connections and remains 4lb below his last winning mark. Trainer John McConnell has a good record at this meeting and Bella Bliss must be considered, along with Destiny Is All and Wick Green.
MOLE COURT is an assured jumper who arrives with a progressive profile, so he boasts leading claims under one of the more experienced riders. Court Master is potentially well treated and could give it a good go from the front, while last-time-out winners Herewegohoney and Destiny Is All are also worthy of respect.

1st (14) (28/1 -12%) Pinnacle Peak |
28/1(-12%) | (14) Pinnacle Peak 28/1, Completed a hat-trick in summer 2021 and resumed winning ways at Worcester (2½m, good to soft) last month. Fair fourth of 8 since at Warwick where the 25f trip may have stretched him and place possibilities back down in distance here. Perhaps high in the weights now and that could tell in this competitive a race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8.5/1 -55%) Angels Breath |
8.5/1(-55%) | (1) Angels Breath 8.5/1, Won both chase starts for Nicky Henderson in 2019, showing smart form in the process. However, he was pulled up on yard debut following a lengthy absence in January and didn't achieve a great deal, despite finishing second, on handicap debut next time. Hard to know what to expect back hurdling here. Hard to weigh up at present but very dangerous if still as good as he was. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (7/1 +22%) Rambo T |
7/1(+22%) | (8) Rambo T 7/1, Confirmed previous promise upped in trip when off the mark in 13-runner maiden at Chepstow (19.5f) in February. Added to that when narrowly prevailing in a Newton Abbot handicap (21.6f, soft) on return this month. More needed up 4 lb in this more competitive race, but couldn't rule out. This demands more from him but a 4lb rise for last time is nothing to groan about. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (4/1 +64%) Soul Icon |
4/1(+64%) | (6) Soul Icon 4/1, Highly progressive in 2022, winning 5 handicaps on the bounce, the latest registered here in October of that year. Below par in a couple of runs during the spring, but back on the up when scoring on his recent reappearace at Fontwell (19.2f, good). 4 lb rise fair and needs considering. Won at this fixture last year and back to his best at Fontwell; needs good ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (20/1 -43%) Arabian King |
20/1(-43%) | (12) Arabian King 20/1, Killarney maiden hurdle winner in July 2022 and looked better than ever when adding to his tally on the Flat at Listowel (14.2f, soft) las month. However, he will need to produce another career best back hurdling if he's to take this prize. Recent Flat winner; 0-6 in handicaps over hurdles, including this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (15) (9/1 +44%) Elogio |
9/1(+44%) | (15) Elogio 9/1, Wide-margin winner of Aintree bumper on debut/sole start for Richard Bandey last November. Runner-up all 4 starts switched to hurdles for present yard, including in first-time cheekpieces (retained) on recent handicap bow/return at Worcester (2½m, soft). Tongue strap now added. Travelled best when second on handicap debut and he may have needed it; new tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (13/2 +0%) Serious Operator |
13/2(+0%) | (11) Serious Operator 13/2, Successful in 2 of his 3 starts in points and made it 3-5 over hurdles when landing a Class 2 Ayr handicap (21.4f, good) when last seen in April. Since undergone a second wind op and, up just 3 lb for that latest success, he has to enter calculations back from a break (good record fresh). Just workmanlike on handicap debut but he looks nicely progressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (9/2 +25%) Lallygag |
9/2(+25%) | (3) Lallygag 9/2, Winner of 3 of his half-a-dozen starts over hurdles at up to 18.5f last season, and signed that campaign off with an improved third of 13 upped to 20.2f here (good) on his handicap debut in April. Good chance that this 6-y-o has more to offer and he's high on the shortlist. Steadily climbed the ladder during his novice season; might not want too much rain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (18/1 -50%) Building Bridges |
18/1(-50%) | (4) Building Bridges 18/1, Raised his game when bagging handicaps at Down Royal (20.4f) and Galway (2¾m) during the summer, and good third in a 16-runner race on the Flat at Navan when last seen at the end of August. Further progress is certainly needed off present mark, but this Irish raider merits respect all the same. Placed on the Flat after back-to-back hurdle wins; this is tougher but running well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (20/1 -67%) Milkwood |
20/1(-67%) | (2) Milkwood 20/1, Smart hurdler at his best, placed in top handicaps here and in Ireland either side of winning the Scottish Champion Hurdle in April 2021. Lightly-raced and generally below par since, and while he has slipped to an attractive mark as a result, his stamina for this trip is not copper-bottomed. Well in on his 2021 form; last season fizzled out and ideally wants good ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (33/1 -83%) Stringtoyourbow |
33/1(-83%) | (13) Stringtoyourbow 33/1, Left his qualifying runs well behind when close second on 20.5f Newbury handicap debut in March 2022. Went one better with plenty in hand upped to 24.3f at Ayr the following month and 12 lb rise for that is fair enough. 19-month absence an obvious concern, but he's interesting nonetheless. Comfortable winner when last seen in April 2022; 12lb higher now but dangerously unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (16/1 -45%) Kansas City Star |
16/1(-45%) | (9) Kansas City Star 16/1, Point winner who remains a maiden following 7 attempts in this sphere, but placed on 5 occasions and looks nailed on to win a race sooner rather than later. However, the addition of cheekpieces/switch to handicap company will need to spark improvement if he's to get off the mark here. Consistent novice and cheekpieces are fitted for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (7/1 +13%) Rocky Man |
7/1(+13%) | (10) Rocky Man 7/1, Looked promising sent handicapping at the beginning of last season, scoring at Wetherby prior to finding just one too good at Ffos Las (both at around 2½m). Looked amiss tried in cheekpieces (discarded here) at Ayr when last seen in April (subsequently gelded) and needs to get back on track. Encouraging that he won on his reappearance last season; gelded in the spring; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (7) (20/1 -43%) Bucko's Boy |
20/1(-43%) | (7) Bucko's Boy 20/1, Better than ever since returning from a break/following a wind op, landing handicaps at Bangor (19.6f) and Stratford (2¾m) in August. proving 1¼ lengths too good for Thirtyfourstitches in the latter. Clear of the rest when second at Kelso last time and likely to give another good account. Kelso second probably a fair reflection of where he is right now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (5) (40/1 -100%) Thirtyfourstitches |
40/1(-100%) | (5) Thirtyfourstitches 40/1, Won twice at Plumpton last season before scoring back from a break at Newton Abbot (21.6f, good to soft) in July. Followed that with a couple of solid efforts in defeat before failing to fire (made mistakes) in the Fontwell handicap won by Soul Icon. Now tried in cheekpieces. He'll need to jump better than when tailed off behind Soul Icon last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (16) (80/1 -100%) Moneynabane |
80/1(-100%) | (16) Moneynabane 80/1, Found some improvement when opening hurdles account at the ninth attempt at Downpatrick (21.5f, soft) 3 weeks ago. However, couldn't be sure that he'll build on that and, in any case, this 5-y-o has much more on his plate from 7 lb out of the handicap in this touger race. Won well last time at Downpatrick; although 7lb out of the weights, Ben Bromley claims 5lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Marginal preference is for SERIOUS OPERATOR, who ended last season on a high with a taking success at Ayr and the fact he won first time out out last term should stand him in good stead. The form of his stable is another plus and he may have too much for course winner Soul Icon, as well as Lallygag, who wasn't beaten far here on his latest start in April. Angels Breath could be of interest on his return to hurdles, while Bucko's Boy and Building Bridges also have the form to get involved.
Cases can be made for a good number of these, with unexposed 6-y-os SERIOUS OPERATOR and Lallygag topping the shortlist, in that order of preference. The former landed a decent Ayr handicap on his final start of last season and his record when fresh (winner of all 4 starts under Rules following a break of 2 months or more) augurs well. Lallygag did very little wrong as a novice and should have more to offer, while Bucko's Boy, the hat-trick seeking Building Bridges and Rambo T all merit respect.
