1st (2) (28/1 -27%) Caribean Boy |
28/1(-27%) | (2) Caribean Boy 28/1, Regained winning thread at Kempton (3m) in January 2022 but has a patchy record and ran no sort of race having undergone a breathing operation when pulled up over C&D in January. Has had another wind op since so arrives with plenty to prove.
2nd (9) (11/1 -22%) Super Six |
11/1(-22%) | (9) Super Six 11/1, Dual bumper winner who was successful twice from 5 starts over hurdles last season and getting the hang of things over fences now, producing a career best when scoring at Haydock in February, jumping well and forging clear. A bad blunder halted him last time so he may well bounce back.
4th (4) (8.5/1 +15%) Herbiers |
8.5/1(+15%) | (4) Herbiers 8.5/1, 5-time winner over hurdles, latest at Newbury (16.3f) in November. Chasing debut was a washout but left that effort behind when going close over 2¼m at Kempton then duly went one better back at Newbury (19.8f, good) early last month. Could be more to come.
5th (12) (12/1 -33%) Deyrann De Carjac |
12/1(-33%) | (12) Deyrann De Carjac 12/1, Smart novice chaser in 2019/20. Seemingly not the force of old but handicap mark reflects that and has now failed to reach the frame on all 6 tries in course handicaps at around this trip. Tough to win with so easy to look elsewhere.
6th (7) (18/1 -13%) Presentandcounting |
18/1(-13%) | (7) Presentandcounting 18/1, Prolific over fences in 2021/22 campaign, winning 5 times in novice company. 4-time winner over timber last year, latest in 12-runner handicap at Worcester (20f) in September but only third when sent off favourite in Grade 2 Persian War when last seen 6 months ago. Tough to know what to expect.
7th (3) (9/1 +10%) Coole Cody |
9/1(+10%) | (3) Coole Cody 9/1, Tremendous servant to connections (3-time C&D winner) who won a match event in Ascot Grade 2 in November. Gave it a decent go bidding to win the Plate for a second successive year at the Festival last month and he could be involved from a sliding mark (well-beaten third in this last year).
8th (1) (40/1 -60%) Cilaos Emery |
40/1(-60%) | (1) Cilaos Emery 40/1, Smart chaser at best for Willie Mullins but didn't show much in hurdle event at Auteuil on yard debut after 14 months off. Went with far more zest back over fences without getting home under a positive ride at Kelso (26.2f, soft) last month and a tongue tie is now applied.
|F| (6) (2.5/1 +9%) Heltenham |
2.5/1(+9%) | (6) Heltenham 2.5/1, Ex-French bumper winner who has improved with each of his 5 runs over fences, having plenty up his sleeve when completing the hat-trick in a better class of handicap at Newbury (19.8f, soft) 25 days ago. Not yet finished progressing, so one to keep firmly onside.
|U| (10) (5/1 +33%) Captain Tom Cat |
5/1(+33%) | (10) Captain Tom Cat 5/1, Developed into a pretty smart chaser in 2021/22, successful 4 times around this trip, including a Grade 2 at Wincanton. This season has been a bit of a write-off but stopped the slide from a much-reduced mark when runner-up at Plumpton (19.8f, soft) 9 days ago. Needs keeping an eye on.
|DQ| (5) (7/1 -17%) Gemirande |
7/1(-17%) | (5) Gemirande 7/1, Ex-French recruit who is on the up for his current yard, doubling chase tally at Wetherby (2½m) in February and big effort when second in Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury just under 7 weeks ago, just failing. Unlikely he's reached his limit just yet.
|PU| (8) (7.5/1 +25%) Unanswered Prayers |
7.5/1(+25%) | (8) Unanswered Prayers 7.5/1, Had point experience and put that to good use on first start over fences when scoring over C&D in November. Disappointed at Newbury next time and unable to capitalise on the favourite's exit when fitted with cheekpieces in 3-runner event back there since (bled). Bit to prove.
|PU| (11) (22/1 -10%) Zhiguli |
22/1(-10%) | (11) Zhiguli 22/1, Bettered low-key reappearance effort (reportedly bled) with respectable efforts at Kempton/Sandown before resuming winning ways at latter track last month, jumping well out in front. Shaped as if still in good form when a well-beaten third to Heltenham at Newbury since but more needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
It is difficult to predict which horse will do well without more information, as each has their own strengths and weaknesses. However, based on recent form and progression, Heltenham and Gemirande may be worth keeping an eye on. Coole Cody is also a strong contender, having won at this track before and performed well in recent races.
The pick is GEMIRANDE, who ran a big race in defeat behind a revitalised opponent at Newbury last month and is on an upward curve.

1st (11) (33/1 -50%) Willaston |
33/1(-50%) | (11) Willaston 33/1, Placed twice in Ireland this summer off the mark for new yard in 2½m Hexham handicap in September. Solid efforts the last twice (chasing on penultimate occasion) and can't be dismissed.
2nd (1) (4.5/1 +25%) Bold Endeavour |
4.5/1(+25%) | (1) Bold Endeavour 4.5/1, Point/bumper winner who quickly made up into a borderline useful novice hurdler last season. Already better over fences, winning twice during the winter, and solid return to hurdling when fifth in the Coral Cup here. Should go well again.
3rd (3) (11/1 -57%) Lallygag |
11/1(-57%) | (3) Lallygag 11/1, Won maiden/novice events at Exeter on first 2 starts over hurdles and back to winning ways at Taunton in December. Bit disappointing in listed company at former course last time but may well bounce back.
4th (7) (20/1 -43%) Supreme Gift |
20/1(-43%) | (7) Supreme Gift 20/1, Irish point winner. Placed in bumpers last season and has won first 3 completed starts over hurdles. Excusable run up in grade at Haydock last time and expected to get back on track now handicapping.
5th (6) (5/1 +38%) Scarface |
5/1(+38%) | (6) Scarface 5/1, Showed fairly useful form over hurdles at the beginning of 2022 and returned to win a brace of novice events in the autumn. Has hit the frame the last twice and another solid showing is on the cards.
6th (10) (7/1 +18%) Hystery Bere |
7/1(+18%) | (10) Hystery Bere 7/1, Shaped as if still in decent form when fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Sandown (19.8f, soft, 11/2) 43 days ago and a stiff test at this trip would play to his strengths. Respected.
7th (9) (22/1 -38%) Loup De Maulde |
22/1(-38%) | (9) Loup De Maulde 22/1, Has progressed well for this stable reverted to hurdling, making it 4 wins in 6 starts when comfortably on top at Warwick in March. Much better than the result (travelled strongly) at Newbury last time and deserves respect back down in trip.
8th (12) (3.5/1 +13%) Master Chewy |
3.5/1(+13%) | (12) Master Chewy 3.5/1, Fairly useful in bumpers and has shown similar form over hurdles despite not yet winning. Out of his depth in the Ballymore here last time and more realistic claims in this company.
9th (4) (9/1 -6%) Boombawn |
9/1(-6%) | (4) Boombawn 9/1, Largely progressive sort who landed the odds in a 3-runner listed contest at Kempton on return and has posted good seconds on two of his three outings since. Likely to be on the premises again.
10th (2) (14/1 -40%) Homme Public |
14/1(-40%) | (2) Homme Public 14/1, Has improved again this term, resuming winning ways at Huntingdon (15.8f) in January and having not been disgraced at Ascot next time, he quickly returned to his best when second at Bangor (19.5f) 3 weeks ago. Should give another good account.
11th (8) (10/1 +29%) Yorksea |
10/1(+29%) | (8) Yorksea 10/1, Fair Flat winner in France who capitalised on the drop in grade in ready fashion at Fontwell on Boxing Day. Ran a stormer when fourth in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury subsequently but latest run at Kempton was disappointing.
12th (5) (25/1 -150%) Lady Adare |
25/1(-150%) | (5) Lady Adare 25/1, Made all in a bumper for Micky Hammond and completed straightforward tasks when winning first 3 starts over hurdles in 2021/22. Lost her unbeaten record with a bit of a whimper on her return at Taunton in January but right back on track when second at Wincanton a fortnight ago. Up in trip, now.
13th (13) (25/1 -25%) Galahad Threepwood |
25/1(-25%) | (13) Galahad Threepwood 25/1, Fairly useful winner on the Flat for Mick Channon and has been going the right way over hurdles, opening his account at Doncaster in March. Fell heavily at Warwick last time so hopefully he's none the worse. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
It is difficult to definitively predict which horse will do well without additional information such as the type of race and the level of competition. However, Bold Endeavour seems to have a strong record and has already shown improvement over fences. They have also had a solid return to hurdling and are expected to perform well again. Homme Public and Loup De Maulde have also shown improvement and have been performing well in recent races. Ultimately, the outcome will depend on the specific race and competition.
The classy BOLD ENDEAVOUR could give weight and a beating to these rivals. He is two from four since joining Nicky Henderson and emerged with plenty of credit when fifth in the Coral Cup at the Festival here last month. Racing off a 1lb lower mark in a lesser race, he looks sure to mount a bold bid. The drying ground will suit Homme Public, who warrants respect lining up off the same rating as when runner-up at Bangor last time. Master Chewy is interesting back in a handicap after never threatening in the Ballymore.
BOLD ENDEAVOUR is well treated based on his chasing efforts this season and he arrives on the back of a creditable effort in the Coral Cup, so he might be the answer to this competitive event. Homme Public and Scarface should both go well again also.
There is more to come from LADY ADARE, who was a very promising novice last season and bumped into a resurgent rival a fortnight ago.

1st (20) (14/1 +0%) Madera Mist |
14/1(+0%) | (20) Madera Mist 14/1, Ended last season with a win here but well beaten on all 4 outings this time round. Did run better than previously this term when 25 lengths fourth of 7 at Lingfield last time but a good bit more will be needed here.
2nd (8) (12/1 +25%) Young Bull |
12/1(+25%) | (8) Young Bull 12/1, Yet to add to his 3 hurdling wins (in 2019) in this sphere. Returned from 10 months off with a creditable third at Haydock in December but jumped poorly when a remote fourth over a marathon trip at Exeter since.
3rd (2) (10/1 -25%) Tip Top Cat |
10/1(-25%) | (2) Tip Top Cat 10/1, Completed a hat-trick over hurdles last winter and left previous chasing form behind when scoring at Uttoxeter (3¼m) in January. Struggled for pace over 3m on quickish ground at Newbury since but there's nothing wrong with the Uttoxeter form and he's much respected now stepping back up in trip.
4th (15) (11/1 -10%) Blame The Game |
11/1(-10%) | (15) Blame The Game 11/1, Three handicap chase wins this season. Also went close at Plumpton in January and shaped as if still in form back there since (third when unseated last).
5th (3) (25/1 -79%) Innisfree Lad |
25/1(-79%) | (3) Innisfree Lad 25/1, Third in last year's Eider and back to form from much-reduced mark when landing weak conditional jockeys' veterans' handicap at Hereford in February. Respectable efforts since but might prove vulnerable in this more competitive scenario.
6th (4) (11/1 -10%) Copperhead |
11/1(-10%) | (4) Copperhead 11/1, Grade 2 novice chase winner in early-2020. His career has been rather disappointing since, giving no indication he's in good enough form to take advantage of his falling mark when remote fifth at Exeter last month.
7th (12) (18/1 -13%) Gwencily Berbas |
18/1(-13%) | (12) Gwencily Berbas 18/1, Isn't the force of old but proved up to taking advantage of a falling mark in the Devon National at Exeter in February. Respectable third on both starts since.
8th (11) (9/1 -13%) Wake Up Early |
9/1(-13%) | (11) Wake Up Early 9/1, Bright start for this yard last spring, winning twice, and back on the up when scoring at Sedgefield (27f) last month, outbattling the runner up. First-time visor replaces regular cheekpieces now. Likely to remain very competitive after a 2 lb nudge.
9th (1) (9/1 +25%) Almazhar Garde |
9/1(+25%) | (1) Almazhar Garde 9/1, Stepped up on previous efforts this term when fourth in 25f Hereford handicap in January and confirmed he's back in better form when second in Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown since. His sometimes iffy jumping is a bit of a worry in a big-field race around here, though.
10th (18) (16/1 -14%) To Be Sure |
16/1(-14%) | (18) To Be Sure 16/1, Back to form a little out of the blue when taking advantage of his reduced mark at Ffos Las (3m, soft) 10 days ago. Shouldered with a 7 lb penalty in a much stronger race now.
11th (16) (22/1 -10%) Bermeo |
22/1(-10%) | (16) Bermeo 22/1, Made a winning start for the Harry Fry stable at Newbury (3m, good) last season but he hasn't gone on from that, his latest Warwick fifth his first completion since. Cheekpieces off, blinkers back on. Others are more obvious.
12th (5) (25/1 -14%) Potters Legend |
25/1(-14%) | (5) Potters Legend 25/1, Not the force of old. Has made the frame 3 times this season but he was in the process of running below form when falling 4 out at Newbury last time.
13th (9) (9/1 +10%) Valleres |
9/1(+10%) | (9) Valleres 9/1, Irish point winner who was having only his second outing for this stable when coming good over fences in 3m Ffos Las handicap (heavy) 28 days ago. Could play a part if his stamina holds now moving up in trip.
14th (7) (11/1 +45%) Max Dynamo |
11/1(+45%) | (7) Max Dynamo 11/1, Veteran with a good strike rate over fences, easily bagging a 3¼m handicap at Chepstow on his reappearance in February. Faced stiff task from out of handicap and ran well for long way in Midlands National since, suggesting he's still very much in form. One to consider back off proper mark.
|PU| (14) (8.5/1 -6%) No Cruise Yet |
8.5/1(-6%) | (14) No Cruise Yet 8.5/1, Really likeable staying chaser who dug deep to win over this trip at Haydock in November. Good placed efforts in North Wales National at Bangor and Eider at Newcastle on next 2 starts and the type to bounce back from a rare poor run last time.
|PU| (19) (12/1 +33%) Bretney |
12/1(+33%) | (19) Bretney 12/1, Showed benefit of reappearance when scoring at Hereford in November and took his form up a notch tackling a marathon trip for the first time/sporting first-time blinkers when beating No Cruise Yet to win North Wales National at Bangor in February. The headgear didn't work at Carlisle since, though.
|PU| (10) (20/1 -100%) Checkitout |
20/1(-100%) | (10) Checkitout 20/1, Scored over this trip at Fontwell at the beginning of 2022. Below that level since but placed efforts the last twice show he's back down to a mark he can be competitive from.
|PU| (13) (28/1 -40%) Didero Vallis |
28/1(-40%) | (13) Didero Vallis 28/1, Useful chaser at his best. Creditable third on his first 2 completed starts this term but has lost his way since, pulling up in the Kim Muir here last month. Starting to look well handicapped but he has too much to prove at present.
|PU| (17) (33/1 -18%) Ballinslea Bridge |
33/1(-18%) | (17) Ballinslea Bridge 33/1, Snapped a long losing run at Market Rasen (3m, soft) in December. Creditable second at Wincanton (25f) last month and going well when falling 5 out at Haydock since.
|PU| (6) (33/1 +0%) Coup De Pinceau |
33/1(+0%) | (6) Coup De Pinceau 33/1, Winner of a 4m course hunter last April. Fared about as well as could be expected in the face of a stiff task when seventh of 16 in cross-country chase at the Festival here last month. On a competitive mark back over regulation fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
WAKE UP EARLY gets a tentative vote in what looks a tricky puzzle for punters to solve. The nine-year-old hasn't done a great deal wrong since joining the shrewd Dr Richard Newland stable and was game in victory at Sedgefield most recently. A 2lb rise for that success is fair and with the addition of a first-time visor, he can play a leading role once more. The locally-trained Checkitout has been creeping down the ratings and merits consideration, while To Be Sure and Almazhar Garde are a couple of others to note.
TIP TOP CAT might have found 3m on quickish ground a bit sharp last time. There's nothing wrong with the form of his 3¼m Uttoxeter win prior to that and he's taken to bounce back now faced with an increased stamina test against largely more exposed opposition. Max Dynamo ran well for a long way from out of the weights in the Midlands National and heads the dangers along with last-time-out Sedgefield winner Wake Up Early and Sam England's No Cruise Yet.
Teenager POTTERS LEGEND has posted a couple of creditable efforts this season and has good record here earns him the vote.

1st (9) (4.5/1 +63%) The Friday Man |
4.5/1(+63%) | (9) The Friday Man 4.5/1, Improving hurdler who easily made it 3-4 in this sphere in 5-runner minor event hurdle at Navan (21.7f, good) in September. Ran to a similar level when second in 6-runner listed event at Limerick the following month and must enter calculations back from a break.
2nd (10) (11/1 +56%) Twig |
11/1(+56%) | (10) Twig 11/1, Multiple point/chase winner who opened his account over hurdles at Kempton in November but finished well held in River Don at Doncaster next time. Back on scoreboard in 6-runner novice at Newbury latest but likely to struggle back up in grade now.
3rd (3) (3.5/1 +22%) Chasing Fire |
3.5/1(+22%) | (3) Chasing Fire 3.5/1, £170,000 buy after point win who looked a potential star when landing his sole bumper last term and made it 3-3 over hurdles in 6-runner novice at Sandown (2m) in February. Down the field in the Supreme but that form was franked at Aintree last week. Upped in trip.
4th (6) (2.5/1 +69%) Red Dirt Road |
2.5/1(+69%) | (6) Red Dirt Road 2.5/1, Successful on sole start in Irish points and easily made it 2 from 3 over hurdles in 6-runner handicap at Exeter (16.7f, good to soft) 40 days ago. Will be suited by 2½m and should continue to progress.
5th (5) (3.33/1 +26%) Pikar |
3.33/1(+26%) | (5) Pikar 3.33/1, Useful hurdler who resumed winning ways in a first-time tongue strap in 15-runner novice at Warwick (19f, good to soft) 54 days ago. That performance is backed up by the clock, so warrants respect. Has had a breathing op since.
6th (11) (33/1 +18%) Chancycourt |
33/1(+18%) | (11) Chancycourt 33/1, Third in an Irish point before shaping well when second in a Worcester bumper (heavy) on Rules debut. This is a tough starting point over hurdles though, especially having not been seen for 18 months.
7th (2) (33/1 +18%) Blue Hop |
33/1(+18%) | (2) Blue Hop 33/1, Fair bumper winner for Tom George who made a successful start over hurdles after 13 months off in 12-runner maiden at Ayr (19.5f) in February. Open to improvement but this is much tougher.
8th (12) (80/1 -100%) Final Encore |
80/1(-100%) | (12) Final Encore 80/1, Half-brother to smart hurdler Third Wind for these connections and left his debut form well behind when landing a Taunton bumper a year ago. Showed an aptitude for hurdling after 11 months off when second at that venue 48 days ago, but this requires a whole lot more.
9th (1) (11/1 +21%) Rock My Way |
11/1(+21%) | (1) Rock My Way 11/1, Winning Irish pointer who looked a useful prospect when runner-up on hurdling debut here (20.3f) on New Year's Day. Still looked green when going one place better in Grade 2 over same C&D but was pulled up in Albert Bartlett at the Festival on most recent outing. Needs to bounce back. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
ROCK MY WAY may have been a disappointment in the Albert Bartlett when pulling up, but he had been in excellent form prior to that and a return to this distance could be just what the doctor ordered. His course form is a major plus and he might be able to see off the likes of easy Warwick winner Pikar and Red Dirt Road, who looked smart when scoring at Exeter. Completing the shortlist are the likes of The Carpenter, The Friday Man and Theatre Man.
THEATRE MAN had the run of the race when resuming winning ways at Kempton last month, but he's done nothing but improve since being sent over hurdles and seems sure to give another good account from the front, so he's an appealing candidate. The Carpenter impressed at Newbury and looks a big threat with further progress on the cards, while Pikar's Warwick win is backed up by the clock, so he must enter calculations as well.
Richard Bandey's THEATRE MAN displayed improvement when making all for a comfortable success at Kempton and could be hard to catch.

4.5/1(+10%) | (7) Captain Cattistock 4.5/1, Ended last season on a high, bagging victories in Edinburgh National/over this C&D. Seen only 3 times during the current campaign, turning in another solid display when runner-up in first-named race on latest outing. Respected.
2nd (1) (18/1 -100%) Lord Du Mesnil |
18/1(-100%) | (1) Lord Du Mesnil 18/1, Patchy form during the last couple of seasons but he's smart when on-song and made an encouraging return when second to subsequent Coral Gold Cup winner Le Milos at Bangor in November. Back on track when runner-up at Carlisle last time and he merits consideration.
3rd (12) (6.5/1 +68%) Risk And Roll |
6.5/1(+68%) | (12) Risk And Roll 6.5/1, Temperamental sort but not disgraced when sixth of 12 in 3m handicap chase at Uttoxeter in February. In refitted cheekpieces, ran as well as could be expected over hurdles when ninth in the Pertemps Final here last month. Others preferred returned to chasing.
4th (3) (40/1 -100%) Chambard |
40/1(-100%) | (3) Chambard 40/1, Ended last season in the form of his life, completing a hat-trick when landing the Kim Muir Chase over this C&D at the Festival. However, has struggled in a trio of starts this term. Cheekpieces now back on.
5th (5) (6.5/1 +24%) Hidden Heroics |
6.5/1(+24%) | (5) Hidden Heroics 6.5/1, Dual winner over hurdles who landed a pair of small-field handicaps at Exeter and this course (25.2f) on his first 2 starts over fences. After 3 months off, finished down the field at Ludlow last month, so needs to get back on track in first-time tongue tie.
6th (8) (7.5/1 +6%) Java Point |
7.5/1(+6%) | (8) Java Point 7.5/1, Developed into a better chaser for current yard last season, winning 3 times. |PU| (10) (6.5/1 +24%) Jimmy The Digger |
6.5/1(+24%) | (10) Jimmy The Digger 6.5/1, Made a winning return when staying on strongly to land amateurs' handicap here (25f) back in October. Good efforts when in the frame next 2 starts and would have been placed but for a late blunder at Uttoxeter last time. Can resume winning ways.
|PU| (9) (7.5/1 +6%) Percussion |
7.5/1(+6%) | (9) Percussion 7.5/1, Revitalised by cheekpieces/tongue strap last spring and good start to this season when placed in both the Grand Sefton and Becher Chase over the National fences at Aintree. Creditable third at Wetherby (21.3f) last time, so he can be thereabouts back up in trip.
|PU| (2) (8.5/1 +6%) Mister Malarky |
8.5/1(+6%) | (2) Mister Malarky 8.5/1, Bounced back to form tried in veterans' company when runner-up at Exeter in February, but failed to build on the promise of that run when only third of 5 in a similar event at Newton Abbot the following month. Capable if he's on a going day.
|PU| (4) (8.5/1 +15%) Definite Plan |
8.5/1(+15%) | (4) Definite Plan 8.5/1, Made a winning handicap chase debut at this course (3m1f) in October last season. Went the wrong way from that effort on his next 4 outings, but after 4 months off bounced back when runner-up in veterans' event at Navan last month. Needs to build on that.
|PU| (6) (9/1 +0%) Anightinlambourn |
9/1(+0%) | (6) Anightinlambourn 9/1, Took sizeable steps forward over fences during second half of last year, making it 3 wins from 4 starts when successful here (25f) at the November Meeting. Done no favours at the start when pulled up in the Kim Muir last month, so could resume her progress. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Just over two lengths separated Captain Cattistock (first) and MISTER MALARKY (second) in this contest last year and it is the latter who is taken to come out on top this time around, courtesy of a 5lb pull at the weights. Richard Bandey's charge proved his recent wellbeing when narrowly denied at Exeter on his penultimate start and he gets the vote ahead of the former, as well as Old Course winner Definite Plan and Percussion, who should appreciate going back up in trip. Java Point and Lord Du Mesnil cannot be ruled out either.
JIMMY THE DIGGER has shown improved form this season and could still have more to offer at staying trips, so he is taken to resume his progress and gain a second course win. The 10-y-o can see off the challenge of the consistent Captain Cattistock, with Lord du Mesnil completing the shortlist.
Plenty of these have shown a liking for this track, including CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK (nap) who can repeat his success of 12 months ago.

1st (6) (3/1 +33%) Broadway Boy |
3/1(+33%) | (6) Broadway Boy 3/1, Well served by quick switch to handicaps/step up to around 3m, doubling his career tally at Market Rasen (23f) 3 weeks ago, looking all about stamina. Assessor applies further pressure but highly likely there's more to come and he's a big player here.
2nd (4) (33/1 +0%) Hurricane Harvey |
33/1(+0%) | (4) Hurricane Harvey 33/1, Overall record is a mixed one but back on his game when landing handicaps at Uttoxeter/Ludlow around the turn of the year. Creditable third over 3m at Newbury on his penultimate run but he does need to shrug off a lesser display behind On The Blind Side back at that venue 26 days ago.
3rd (8) (2.75/1 +17%) Santos Blue |
2.75/1(+17%) | (8) Santos Blue 2.75/1, Winning pointer who has shown much-improved form under this rider since being refitted with a tongue strap, career best display as he rattled off the hat-trick with good deal to spare at Kelso (20.8f) 46 days ago. Feasible to think he can do better again on that evidence. Big player upped to 3m.
4th (2) (12/1 -33%) Press Your Luck |
12/1(-33%) | (2) Press Your Luck 12/1, Made winning return/chase debut at Chepstow (23.6f) in October but struggled over both sets of obstacles next 4 starts (failed to complete on 3). However, did return to form back from 8 weeks off to score at Wincanton in February (2-2 at that venue). Still low-mileage at this trip.
5th (11) (10/1 -43%) The Kniphand |
10/1(-43%) | (11) The Kniphand 10/1, Improved model switched to handicaps/upped to 3m, displaying an excellent attitude as he made it 3 wins from last 4 starts at Market Rasen (23f) in March (clear with runner-up). Another holding claims from this yard.
6th (5) (6.5/1 +35%) Abuffalosoldier |
6.5/1(+35%) | (5) Abuffalosoldier 6.5/1, Low-mileage type who stepped up on his comeback run to make first start at 3m a winning one at Newbury in November. Similar form when third behind Hector Javilex over C&D on New Year's Day and he looked a threat before weakening out of things from 2 out at Musselburgh in February.
7th (10) (10/1 +17%) Bells Of Peterboro |
10/1(+17%) | (10) Bells Of Peterboro 10/1, Consistent sort who again made the frame when third in 15-runner Chepstow handicap (23.6f) in February, rallying well to gain that place close home. Assessor has relinquished his grip but he remains 3 lb above last winning mark.
8th (12) (16/1 +0%) Landen Calling |
16/1(+0%) | (12) Landen Calling 16/1, Has raised his game since equipped with blinkers, dominant as he doubled tally at Market Rasen (23f) last July. Made a good fist of things when second from 11 lb higher mark at Worcester (23f) the following month but he has been absent since.
9th (9) (28/1 -12%) Silver Flyer |
28/1(-12%) | (9) Silver Flyer 28/1, Made it third time lucky in handicaps when staying on to lead close home at Doncaster (3m, good to soft) just after Christmas. Not in anything like the same form either start since though, pulled up in first-time cheekpieces at Uttoxeter (23.3f) 32 days ago. Blinkers now reached for.
|U| (7) (7.5/1 +53%) Royaume Uni |
7.5/1(+53%) | (7) Royaume Uni 7.5/1, Useful on Flat and reached a similar standard over hurdles when scoring twice in handicap company last season. Good return to hurdling when second at Plumpton (20.5f) in October and whilst he's disappointed both starts since, he has faced softer ground. Mark is steadily easing.
|PU| (1) (14/1 -17%) On The Blind Side |
14/1(-17%) | (1) On The Blind Side 14/1, One-time smart hurdler who cashed in from a career-low mark at Newbury (24.2f) in March, finding extra when tackled. Remains well treated on old form but whether he'll turn up in the same groove is open to question. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
On The Blind Side was a game winner over this trip at Newbury last month, but he steps up in class here and has to shoulder top-weight, so the vote goes to PRESS YOUR LUCK. Chris Gordon's eight-year-old was an emphatic winner over an extended 2m5f at Wincanton in February and can have a big say in proceedings here, especially as Freddie Gordon negates all of the gelding's 6lb rise for that success with his 7lb claim. Santos Blue arrives on a four-timer and is feared most, while Broadway Boy is another to bear in mind.
SANTOS BLUE took another marked step forward and completed the hat-trick to boot when running out an impressive winner at Kelso last month and a 6 lb higher mark shouldn't prevent another bold bid from Dan Skelton's progressive 6-y-o. Similar comments apply to Broadway Boy and he rates the chief threat on the back of his Market Rasen success. Hector Javilex and The Kniphand complete the shortlist.
His stamina needs taking on trust but ROYAUME UNI was a stayer on the Flat and he's always been running on over shorter trips.

1st (8) (3.33/1 +52%) Black Poppy |
3.33/1(+52%) | (8) Black Poppy 3.33/1, Won first 2 starts in handicaps during the start of 2022. Placed 3 of 4 starts since, including a repeat bid at Newbury last month but he isn't obviously well treated.
2nd (14) (25/1 -39%) Samtara |
25/1(-39%) | (14) Samtara 25/1, Came good at the 22nd time of asking when seeing off six rivals over 19.5f at Hereford 26 days ago. Overall record doesn't mark him down as an obvious type to follow up.
3rd (11) (4/1 -20%) By Your Side |
4/1(-20%) | (11) By Your Side 4/1, Low-key start over hurdles but really getting the hang of it now, landing big-field maiden at Naas 3 weeks ago. Has the scope for better still representing a top yard so he's a must for the shortlist.
4th (12) (9/1 +10%) Lively Citizen |
9/1(+10%) | (12) Lively Citizen 9/1, Likeable and consistent through most of his career, winning twice at this venue, but hasn't fired in 4 outings this season.
5th (13) (28/1 +30%) Red Force One |
28/1(+30%) | (13) Red Force One 28/1, Completed a hat-trick on the Flat last summer but has failed to continue the good work back hurdling and you have to go back to July 2020 for his latest success in this sphere.
6th (1) (14/1 +22%) Martator |
14/1(+22%) | (1) Martator 14/1, Placed in Grade 1s in Auteuil in 2021 for Joel Boisnard but subsequently spent more than a year off the track and capitulated tamely on his British debut here. Hasn't fared much better twice since but mark has come down a lot and he's in very good hands.
7th (6) (3.33/1 +52%) Mayhem Mya |
3.33/1(+52%) | (6) Mayhem Mya 3.33/1, Talented in bumpers and looked a good hurdles prospect initially in 2021/22. Hasn't kicked on as quite expected but she did double her tally over obstacles at Sandown last month. Revised mark looks perfectly fair.
8th (2) (18/1 +36%) Gumball |
18/1(+36%) | (2) Gumball 18/1, Smart hurdler/chaser at his best who shaped encouragingly after 5 months off when second on the Flat at Ascot in September. Profile has a patchy look to it and he was readily brushed aside at Stratford last month, going off too hard.
9th (3) (18/1 -29%) Fransham |
18/1(-29%) | (3) Fransham 18/1, Wetherby regular but not at the top of his game at that venue this season, albeit he did shape quite well after an absence when third from reduced mark 3 weeks ago. Well weighted if he can build on that.
10th (7) (8/1 -60%) Ballygeary |
8/1(-60%) | (7) Ballygeary 8/1, Very positive start to his hurdles career, again going with plenty of zest when completing the hat-trick in novice company at Kelso 25 days ago. Opening mark looks very fair and there's every chance there's more to come.
11th (10) (40/1 -21%) Boston Emery |
40/1(-21%) | (10) Boston Emery 40/1, Pretty prolific in France but first run since leaving A. Chaille-Chaille when disappointing eighth of 14 in minor event hurdle at Machecoul (19.4f, soft) 74 days ago. Makes handicap hurdle debut.
12th (4) (16/1 +11%) Walhaan |
16/1(+11%) | (4) Walhaan 16/1, Pretty useful on the Flat and cashed in on a soft lead when making third hurdles start a winning one at Leopardstown last month. In nothing like the same form under a penalty at Naas and needs to improve to defy this mark.
13th (9) (16/1 +0%) Elham Valley |
16/1(+0%) | (9) Elham Valley 16/1, Successful at Warwick in May and back on song following a couple of low-key efforts when narrowly prevailing at Newton Abbot (17f) in August. Last of 6 on the level a fortnight ago but that will have served a purpose fitness-wise. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
This could go the way of MAYHEM MYA, who steps up in class following a comfortable success over 2m at Sandown last month. Although now up to a mark of 119, Chris Honour's six-year-old remains open to further improvement and looks capable of securing the double. Ballygeary has won his last two starts under penalties and should not be dismissed lightly on his handicap bow, while Black Poppy is another to bear in mind.
BY YOUR SIDE is really getting to grips with hurdling now and given the yard he represents, his limit may not have been reached. He could be the answer to what is an open race, with Ballygeary also open to progress, while Mayhem Mya also commands respect.
Another very open handicap. WALHAAN will be better suited by this ground and the form of his Leopardstown maiden win has been franked.
Ths is the racecard key.
