1st (1) (11/4 -10%) Brucio |
11/4(-10%) | (1) Brucio 11/4, Bettered her bumper form when third in a big-field Down Royal maiden (17f, soft) on hurdles debut in November. Held in third when stumbling and falling just after the last at Ayr since but she still rates a major player here. Has shown promise on both hurdle starts and her form reads well in today's context; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (3/1 -9%) Phone Home |
3/1(-9%) | (9) Phone Home 3/1, Telescope filly who ran to a fair level when runner-up at Huntingdon (19.5f, good to soft) in November. Bit disappointing when a remote fourth at Lingfield later that month but this is a weak race and she might be worth another chance in a first-time tongue tie. Well-beaten 4th at Lingfield but good second at Huntingdon previously; could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/2 -329%) Looking As You Are |
15/2(-329%) | (6) Looking As You Are 15/2, Showed plenty when runner-up on first 3 outings in bumpers. Well beaten in a Doncaster listed bumper last month but still appeals as one who should be making her presence felt in a race like this now hurdling. Runner-up in first three bumpers; contender if rediscovering that promise on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (28/1 -133%) Purple Gown |
28/1(-133%) | (10) Purple Gown 28/1, Fair Flat winner but ran to only a poor level when a remote third on her C&D hurdle debut just after Christmas. Well beaten on hurdle debut but fair on the Flat and open to improvement in this code. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (6/1 +63%) Millyupdahilly |
6/1(+63%) | (7) Millyupdahilly 6/1, Modest maiden on the Flat. Ran to a similar level when sixth of 17 in a Naas mares' maiden on hurdle debut 4 weeks ago. Hood and tongue tie are added now. Irish trainer does well with his British runners. Could play a part. Fair sixth of 17 on hurdle debut at Naas and she's one to consider in this weak race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (40/1 -186%) Expert Lady |
40/1(-186%) | (14) Expert Lady 40/1, Down the field in varied events on Flat. Poor form when remote third on C&D hurdle debut 23 days ago. More will be needed. Didn't show much in light Flat career and modest form over C&D on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (4/1 +75%) Libby |
4/1(+75%) | (5) Libby 4/1, Fair form over hurdles for Joseph O'Brien but well held on the Flat and over hurdles for this yard. Others arrive with more pressing claims. Leading claims on last season's form but she's yet to shine this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (15) (200/1 -300%) Rose De La Jarrie |
200/1(-300%) | (15) Rose De La Jarrie 200/1, Won over 1½m at Beaupreau on only outing on Flat in France. Sold for €42,000 in September but came in a well-held seventh on her C&D hurdle debut 23 days ago. French win on sole Flat start but tailed off at 50-1 on hurdle debut over C&D last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (13) (125/1 -400%) Caress Of Steel |
125/1(-400%) | (13) Caress Of Steel 125/1, From a good stable but didn't offer any obvious promise on last month's Hereford bumper debut. With top northern yard but tailed off in Hereford bumper on sole previous run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (100/1 -203%) The Gambler |
100/1(-203%) | (11) The Gambler 100/1, Easy winner on last of her three starts in Irish points in April. Also made a successful start under Rules in a Market Rasen bumper in June but her 2 hurdle efforts since have been very disappointing. Too soon to write off in this sphere but can only watch this time. Point/bumper winner but tailed off/pulled up on her first two hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (3) (22/1 +67%) Foursome |
22/1(+67%) | (3) Foursome 22/1, Belatedly off the mark on Flat at Nottingham in October. Backed that up when second at Redcar 9 days later but comfortably held in 2 novice hurdles since. Flat winner last October but at lowly level; well beaten on both hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (8/1 +76%) Vallamorey |
8/1(+76%) | (12) Vallamorey 8/1, Fair Flat winner at her best for Chris Fairhurst and worth a precautionary betting check having joined a shrewd outfit ahead of this hurdle debut. Flat winner; below par when last seen but market check advised on hurdle/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (200/1 -506%) Katyb |
200/1(-506%) | (4) Katyb 200/1, Mr Medici mare. Dam winning pointer. Best watched on this rather belated debut unless the betting strongly hints otherwise. Second foal; dam point winner; makes belated debut and a watching brief is probably best. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Libby arrives as the highest rated hurdler in the field with a mark of 111 and she would take all of the beating if running to that level back in maiden company. However, recent performances between codes haven't been the most inspiring, so it may pay to take a punt on hurdling debutant VALLAMOREY. Sam England's charge posted some fair efforts on the Flat in the summer and she's bred to excel in this sphere. Brucio is also worth a second look.
A chance is taken on a first-time tongue tie helping PHONE HOME bounce straight back to form as she's the pick on November's Huntingdon second. Stuart Crawford's Brucio will be a danger if back to the level of her Down Royal hurdle debut third, while Looking As You Are achieved enough in bumpers to think she can make an impact here.
Having produced encouraging performances on her first two hurdle starts, this could be a good opportunity for BRUCIO.

1st (8) (7/2 -27%) It's Maisy |
7/2(-27%) | (8) It's Maisy 7/2, Fortunate winner of a 5-runner novice at Sedgefield in April but no luck about her 23f Market Rasen handicap success 5 weeks ago. Unexposed as a stayer and much respected off 4 lb higher. Strong finish when scoring on handicap debut at Market Rasen; big player again up 4lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (17/2 -42%) You Say Its Over |
17/2(-42%) | (11) You Say Its Over 17/2, Still looking for first success but has been runner-up over 3m at Hexham under Brian Hughes on her last 2 outings. Should be very competitive again. 0-11 but she's finished runner-up in the mud at Hexham (2m7f) last twice; in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 -71%) Getbazoutofhere |
12/1(-71%) | (3) Getbazoutofhere 12/1, Winless following 10 attempts in this sphere but she has made the frame on several occasions, including on 3m Ludlow reappearance in November. Unexposed at 3m+ and should be competitive again. 0-11 but she's reached the frame in last three runs and looks interesting at this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (6/1 +40%) Poetria |
6/1(+40%) | (10) Poetria 6/1, Modest form at best over hurdles. Has hit the frame on all 3 starts this season, albeit she was beaten 22 lengths when third at Newcastle latest. Tackles a longer trip here with a first-time visor also added. 12-race maiden who was a remote third at Newcastle latest; now tries new trip in headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (12/1 -60%) Bollin Matilda |
12/1(-60%) | (7) Bollin Matilda 12/1, Poor form but showed she can be competitive in handicaps when third of 9 over 19f at Carlisle last month. Significantly up in trip. Improved form when third at Carlisle (2m3f) and has claims if she can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (18/1 -50%) Atomic Angel |
18/1(-50%) | (4) Atomic Angel 18/1, Ended last season with a hurdle win at Sedgefield. Started the current one with a good second in a Hexham handicap hurdle in October but not in anything like the same form back there 5 weeks later. Bounce back needed. Suited by a slog in the mud but was disappointing last time and looks weighted near best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (28/1 -75%) Lady Pacifico |
28/1(-75%) | (9) Lady Pacifico 28/1, Made a winning start over hurdles at Leicester (2m) in 2021. Patchy over hurdles for David Weston subsequently but more encouraging signs at the first time of asking for this stable when third of 8 in 22.5f Leicester handicap chase in November. Claims if she can reproduce that back hurdling. Inconsistent sort who is 1-13 over hurdles and has never run beyond 2m6f; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (7/2 +13%) Minniemum |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Minniemum 7/2, Placed for the third time in her 4 handicap starts when second of 14 over 3m at Doncaster last month. That looks solid form and she should give another good account of herself here. Placed in last two starts including a clear second at Doncaster (3m) latest; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (5/1 +29%) Innisfree Lass |
5/1(+29%) | (6) Innisfree Lass 5/1, Failed to improve for a switch to handicap company early last year, finishing fourth at Huntingdon (20.5f) and Ludlow (19f). Steps up significantly in trip on her first outing for 9 months. Has stamina in pedigree but she needs improvement upped to this trip after 295 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (12/1 +52%) Storm Force One |
12/1(+52%) | (12) Storm Force One 12/1, Reached the frame twice over 3m at Wetherby last spring but off since a lesser run at Southwell in April and this long-standing maiden is probably best watched this time. On dangerous mark but she's 0-25 and is hard to predict; looks opposable on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (33/1 -136%) Hollywood Harmon |
33/1(-136%) | (5) Hollywood Harmon 33/1, Unplaced completed starts in Irish points. Down the field in maiden/novice hurdles under Rules but could fare better now handicapping over further. One to note in the betting. Still lightly raced but she needs a transformation upped to this trip on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
IT'S MAISY finished with a flourish when landing the spoils from an uncompromising position on her handicap debut at Market Rasen last month. A 4lb rise for that victory may underestimate the six-year-old and a double could be in the offing. Minniemum's runner-up effort at Doncaster was her best performance over hurdles to date and Henry Daly's mare is likely to be in the hunt once more, while better is expected from Poetria.
IT'S MAISY should have more to offer as a stayer on the back of her Market Rasen success and is selected to make light of a 4 lb rise. Minniemum has been knocking on the door in similar company and is second choice ahead of You Say Its Over, twice a runner-up at Hexham this winter.
The vote goes to IT'S MAISY, who won on her handicap debut at Market Rasen last month and is open to more progress at staying trips.

1st (10) (3/1 +0%) Time For A Pint |
3/1(+0%) | (10) Time For A Pint 3/1, Irish point winner who bettered his hurdling form when fifth in a handicap chase at this course three weeks ago. Likely more to come and looks a big player. Close fifth over 2m3f on chase debut and this longer trip could be just what he needs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (4/1 +67%) Monaghan Boy |
4/1(+67%) | (11) Monaghan Boy 4/1, Fair in bumpers. Didn't match that over hurdles but more encouragement at the second attempt over fences when second at Hexham a month ago. Not dismissed up in trip. 0-13 and poor form in main, but encouraging runner-up at Hexham on second run over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (13/2 +7%) Cowboy Cooper |
13/2(+7%) | (8) Cowboy Cooper 13/2, Arrives in form from hurdling, albeit not obviously looking ahead of his mark. Could make his presence felt if taking to the larger obstacles. 0-9 but fair 3rd at Hexham on last two hurdle starts; might not be far away on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (20/1 -82%) Don Brocco |
20/1(-82%) | (6) Don Brocco 20/1, Modest winner at 25f over hurdles. 11/2, last of 6 in handicap chase at Kelso (26.2f, heavy) 13 days ago. Penultimate start was encouraging, so he's not one to write off. Step back in right direction when third at Hexham but failed to kick on at Kelso. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (9/2 -80%) Benny Baloo |
9/2(-80%) | (5) Benny Baloo 9/2, Just poor form over hurdles but much better since sent chasing, off the mark in comfortable fashion at Market Rasen 16 days ago. Strong claims again. Won comfortably at Market Rasen on second chase start and a 9lb rise may not stop him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (66/1 -100%) Country Kitten |
66/1(-100%) | (9) Country Kitten 66/1, Caused a surprise when taking 6-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (23.1f, heavy) in March, but that is very much a standout effort and she's failed to complete both starts in this sphere. 40-1 win over hurdles last March but very patchy profile, including over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (33/1 -175%) Lady Tremaine |
33/1(-175%) | (2) Lady Tremaine 33/1, Dual winner over hurdles who made a promising start over fences last spring, making the frame in mares' handicaps at Ffos Las/Southwell. Ran no sort of race when pulled up at Bangor (3m) in May but no surprise to see a better showing back from 7 months off. Pulled up when last seen but promise previously; contender if back on song after break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (5/1 +38%) Just Jess |
5/1(+38%) | (7) Just Jess 5/1, Poor handicap hurdler who was unsuited by the drop in trip at this course last time, so not a forlorn hope if she takes to this game at the first attempt. 3m1f course h'dle winner; handicapped to play leading role if immediately taking to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (11/1 +8%) Storm Tiger |
11/1(+8%) | (4) Storm Tiger 11/1, 14/1, creditable fifth of 11 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (24f, heavy) 20 days ago. Still a maiden under Rules (point winner) but expected to give his running again. Some creditable efforts last season but not at the same level on either outing this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (20/1 -208%) My Girl Lollipop |
20/1(-208%) | (3) My Girl Lollipop 20/1, Maiden who was in good form over hurdles when last seen, placed for third consecutive start at Warwick (25f) in May. Has since left Stuart Edmunds and interesting what the market makes of her now chasing back from 8 months off. 0-12 but solid handicap hurdle form last spring; could be in the mix; chase/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (28/1 -75%) Lepashe |
28/1(-75%) | (1) Lepashe 28/1, Point winner. Little encouragement both starts over fences and little impact back over hurdles at Doncaster last time. Something to prove. Well treated on hurdle form as recent as last February but has struggled in both chases. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Better is expected from chase debutant Just Jess and the eight-year-old isn't taken lightly. Preference, however, is for comfortable Boxing Day scorer BENNY BALOO, who justified strong market support at Market Rasen that day. Tim Easterby's charge won with enough in hand to suggest that he can defy a 9lb hike in this contest, while Cowboy Cooper and My Girl Lollipop are others to consider.
TIME FOR A PINT didn't show much over hurdles but he's an ex-pointer and offered more encouragement when fifth at this course three weeks ago, so he's worth chancing to find further improvement back up in trip and open his account under Rules. Last-time-out winner Benny Baloo is a danger and Storm Tiger can't be ruled out.
Point winner BENNY BALOO did it in good style at Market Rasen on Boxing Day on his second chase start and is taken to follow up.

1st (1) (10/11 -10%) Hasthing |
10/11(-10%) | (1) Hasthing 10/11, French bumper winner who made a very encouraging start for this yard last season, putting up a smart effort when third in Aintree Grade 2 bumper. Resumed with stylish hurdling debut success at Leicester and very much the one to beat. Bright prospect. Won at Leicester on hurdle debut; didn't jump well but he's a useful prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (4/1 +27%) Pic Roc |
4/1(+27%) | (6) Pic Roc 4/1, Mount Nelson gelding who progressed with each start in bumpers before shaping well on his hurdling bow when fifth of 9 in novice at Newbury (20.5f, heavy, 40/1) 22 days ago. Can step forward and make his presence felt. Placed in bumpers and could improve for his hurdle debut fifth; possible player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (13/2 -63%) Defence Witness |
13/2(-63%) | (3) Defence Witness 13/2, Won sole start in points before showing fairly useful form when landing 4-runner bumper here 48 days ago. Much respected now going over hurdles stepped up in trip. 2-2 with wins in point/bumper; this trip promises to suit on h'dle debut; brings potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (100/1 -100%) Ushuaia Dancer |
100/1(-100%) | (7) Ushuaia Dancer 100/1, Made frame completed start in points but only modest form shown in 3 starts under Rules. Others appeal more. Not beaten far over C&D on New Year's Day but in a much weaker race than this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (150/1 -355%) Walk My Way |
150/1(-355%) | (8) Walk My Way 150/1, Failed to threaten between the flags and has offered little in two runs over hurdles this winter. Respectable sixth of seven at 50-1 over C&D recently but today's company is much tougher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (11/4 +21%) Here Comes Georgie |
11/4(+21%) | (2) Here Comes Georgie 11/4, Fair hurdler who got off the mark in 10-runner novice at Carlisle (17f, soft) 25 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Won at Carlisle last month; could continue to progress and he's respected under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (125/1 -89%) Imperial Rule |
125/1(-89%) | (5) Imperial Rule 125/1, Placed in Irish points and hinted at promise in a first-time tongue strap when fifth of 8 in novice hurdle (50/1) at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft) 16 days ago. Needs another step forward. Fair third in Irish point last April but well beaten at big odds on both hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (150/1 -127%) Hemicycle |
150/1(-127%) | (4) Hemicycle 150/1, Maiden Irish pointer who was down the field in a novice hurdle at Wetherby on Rules debut. Makes little appeal. Displayed some ability in points but tailed off at 50-1 on rules debut at Wetherby. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Raw ability appeared to get HASTHING over the line at Leicester, where he won despite some indifferent jumping. The seven-year-old will have learned plenty from that experience, however, and he is expected to progress under the penalty. Defence Witness made a successful Rules debut in a bumper here 48 days ago and the son of Court Cave merits respect now switched to hurdles. Here Comes Georgie can chase them home.
HASTHING looked an exciting prospect when going in at the first time of asking over hurdles at Leicester and this smart bumper winner is fancied to defy a penalty here before moving up in grade. Pic Roc shaped well when fifth at Newbury on his debut in this sphere and is feared most, with newcomer Defence Witness appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
Grade 2 bumper third HASTHING didn't jump well at Leicester on his hurdle debut but still won and is open to considerable improvement.

1st (6) (7/2 +22%) Track And Trace |
7/2(+22%) | (6) Track And Trace 7/2, Placed in an Irish point and got off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt when scoring at Warwick on return. Well held next 2 starts but big improvement when only just denied by a subsequent winner at Carlisle last month. That was his only second run over fences so high on shortlist. Latest form franked and this unexposed 7yo brings potential to today's marathon trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (8/1 +33%) Crixus's Escape |
8/1(+33%) | (7) Crixus's Escape 8/1, Capitalised on a career-low mark in some style to record a first success in over 3 years when landing 11-runner handicap chase at Catterick (25.2f, heavy) 2 weeks ago. That contest unfolded to his benefit, though, and more required to follow up from 8 lb higher mark. Easy 3m1f win here recently; not dismissed but this is tougher and he's unproven at trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (6/1 -33%) Court At Slip |
6/1(-33%) | (4) Court At Slip 6/1, Likeable sort who scored 3 times last season and all the better for return when resuming winning ways at Newcastle 4 weeks ago. looking value for a fair bit more than the neck margin. Should go well again if seeing out this longer trip. Four wins (at up to 3m3f) from his nine chases and this 7yo could continue to improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (13/2 -117%) No Cruise Yet |
13/2(-117%) | (2) No Cruise Yet 13/2, Likeable staying chaser who dug deep to win 3m 4f handicap at Haydock last season. Some good placed efforts after, including when third at Newcastle 4 weeks ago. Can be in the mix again. 3m4f winner who went very close in the Durham National on reappearance; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (13/2 +19%) Bushypark |
13/2(+19%) | (1) Bushypark 13/2, Inconsistent nowadays but back to form when taking advantage of lower hurdles mark at Haydock last month. Good winner of this race 12 months ago off 5 lb lower so big run wouldn't surprise. Eased down to win this last year & scored over hurdles at Haydock last time; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (4/1 +27%) Ladronne |
4/1(+27%) | (3) Ladronne 4/1, Course winner who ran his best race for a while when second at Newcastle off this mark 19 days ago. Considered back in trip. In good form at end of last year and this trip may well be within range; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (7/1 +0%) Shadows In The Sky |
7/1(+0%) | (8) Shadows In The Sky 7/1, Point winner. Failed to go on over hurdles but all the better for chase bow/return when third at Musselburgh last month, shaping as if this longer trip will suit. Not taken lightly. Marathon trip is well worth exploring with this lightly raced 8yo and he's one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (12/1 -50%) Glittering Love |
12/1(-50%) | (5) Glittering Love 12/1, Veteran who isn't the most consistent nowadays and others more persuasive. Kept on for fair fourth over 2m7f last time; could build on it now back up in trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
BUSHYPARK made most when landing the corresponding event off a 5lb lower mark 12 months ago. Philip Kirby's charge got back on track over hurdles at Haydock last month, so he is expected to mount a stern challenge in a bid to retain his crown. No Cruise Yet continues to run well in defeat and he is unlikely to be far away, along with Ladronne, who ought to appreciate a return to further having hit the woodwork over 2m4f at Newcastle last time.
TRACK AND TRACE showed big improvement on his second chase start when just denied by a subsequent winner at Carlisle and edges the vote over in-form pair Court At Slip and Ladronne.
Topweight BUSHYPARK won this in fine style 12 months ago and will be tough to catch if in the same form today.

15/2(+38%) | (9) Shantou Moon 15/2, Off the mark in first-time cheekpieces at Kelso (22.7f) in February last year. Made the frame on his next 2 starts but, tried in blinkers, failed to come on for his recent run when down the field at Musselburgh in November. Needs to get back on track with cheekpieces reapplied. On a competitive mark on form last February/March but below best more recently. |

2nd (10) (17/2 -42%) Dillarchie |
17/2(-42%) | (10) Dillarchie 17/2, Opened her hurdles account at Wetherby (24.1f) last April but well below that level on her next 3 outings. After 4 months off, better signs when fifth at Huntingdon (25f) in October, but failed to build on that effort at Doncaster last time. Cheekpieces now reached for. Won at Wetherby last April but hasn't shone since; cheekpieces need to prompt a revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (3/1 -50%) Post Chaise |
3/1(-50%) | (7) Post Chaise 3/1, Recorded third chase success of his career at Market Rasen (23.9f) in November (second past the post but subsequently awarded race). Can be thereabouts once more from his lower mark over hurdles. Engaged 12.20 Doncaster Wednesday. Three chase wins last year and has 7lb lower hurdle mark; one to consider. |

11/2(-57%) | (6) Spice Diva 11/2, Making only her second start in a handicap, produced her best effort so far when runner-up in 22-runner event at Punchestown (23.9f) in December. Remains lightly raced and she can open her account with further progress to come. Promise over 3m in first two handicaps and could play leading role for in-form stable. |

5th (3) (11/1 +31%) Tim Pat |
11/1(+31%) | (3) Tim Pat 11/1, Completed a hat-trick in early-2022 but without a win since (has been racing over fences) and he's been struggling for form, faring no better in first-time blinkers when well held at Musselburgh last time. Return to hurdling needs to spark a revival. Continues to drop down weights; the return to hurdles needs to reignite some spark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (15/2 +6%) Bonne Vitesse |
15/2(+6%) | (4) Bonne Vitesse 15/2, Fair hurdler at best who was successful at Ripon on the Flat in May. Good second at Pontefract on her final start on the level in October, but not in the same form back over hurdles when fourth at Sedgefield (19.8f) last time. On a workable mark as she goes up in trip. Plenty of stamina on the Flat and could be suited by this step up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (4/1 +67%) Son Of The Somme |
4/1(+67%) | (1) Son Of The Somme 4/1, Won over fences at Sedgefield in January last year and, after a couple of below-par efforts, returned to form in first-time blinkers when third in handicap hurdle at Ayr (24.3f) in November. Found it tougher at Cheltenham next time, but could fare better back up in trip. Third at Ayr then down the field at Cheltenham; could bounce back now back down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (22/1 -340%) The King Of May |
22/1(-340%) | (2) The King Of May 22/1, Got back on track returned to hurdling when making the frame on his first 2 starts this season. Below expectations over fences at Sedgefield (19.3f) last time, but he can make his presence felt quickly back over hurdles as he goes up in trip with headgear left off. Stamina to prove and not the force of old but might not be far away if seeing it out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (40/1 -60%) One Fer Mamma |
40/1(-60%) | (8) One Fer Mamma 40/1, Fair winning hurdler/chaser for Matt Sheppard but his form has gone the wrong way in 3 starts over hurdles for his current yard, pulled up after 9 months off at Hexham in December. Has enough to prove at present. On a reduced mark but he struggled last year and others are preferred. |

|PU| (5) (10/1 +70%) Milvale |
10/1(+70%) | (5) Milvale 10/1, Only win to date came on handicap hurdle debut at Kelso (22.7f) back in February 2020. After 23 months off, probably needed the run when seventh of 11 at Ayr in December. This run should reveal more having eased further in the weights. Has to prove how much ability he retains but on a dangerous mark and not written off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Irish handler Stuart Crawford likes his winners across the sea and he looks to have found an ideal opportunity for SPICE DIVA, who was runner-up to a progressive sort at Punchestown last month. The seven-year-old gets the vote ahead of The King Of May, who shaped with some promise when last sighted over hurdles at Carlisle in November. Bonne Vitesse is another to bear in mind.
SPICE DIVA ran well when second of 22 at Punchestown on her latest outing and she can go one better as she makes only her third start in a handicap. The 7-y-o is taken to get the better of The King of May, who lurks on a dangerous mark as he reverts to hurdling, while Post Chaise is one to consider if taking up this engagement.
The mare SPICE DIVA (nap) has shaped with promise since upped to 3m in handicaps and can post her first rules win.

1st (3) (10/3 +33%) Freddy Robinson |
10/3(+33%) | (3) Freddy Robinson 10/3, Fair maiden on Flat who ran out an easy winner of thin 2m Musselburgh juvenile in December. Down the field both starts on the level recently but did post a good third in a handicap at aforementioned venue when last seen over hurdles. Hasn't shone on AW lately but hurdling is more his game; could have a part to play. |

2nd (6) (20/1 +39%) Very Excellent |
20/1(+39%) | (6) Very Excellent 20/1, Produced his best effort for a while (fit from the Flat) when beaten only by an unexposed one in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Cartmel (17.2f, soft) in August. Wasn't in anything like the same form at Market Rasen 3 months later, though. Some good Flat/hurdles form last summer but tailed off at Market Rasen last month. |

3rd (9) (28/1 -75%) Jumbo Veste Verte |
28/1(-75%) | (9) Jumbo Veste Verte 28/1, Little solid form and needs to find plenty of improvement now handicapping. This handicap debut provides a far more realistic opportunity but improvement is required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/4 -83%) Present Fair |
11/4(-83%) | (5) Present Fair 11/4, Brushed off a disappointing run over fences when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (15.8f, heavy, 28/1) 20 days ago. 3 lb rise shouldn't prevent another good run. Won when back over hurdles at Uttoxeter three weeks ago and is just 3lb higher today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (6/4 +55%) Thunderclap |
6/4(+55%) | (4) Thunderclap 6/4, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat and made steady progress in this sphere last season, winning a Sedgefield maiden in April. Possibly in need of run back from 8 months off at Bangor 40 days ago and better showing anticipated. Tailed off on h'cap hurdle debut but may have needed the run; has potential off this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (7/1 +50%) Polisud |
7/1(+50%) | (7) Polisud 7/1, Fairly useful chase/hurdle winner at best in France but has shown little in 4 outings for current yard. Down in trip. Well handicapped on old French form but he's struggled in Britain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (50/1 -100%) Fricotin |
50/1(-100%) | (2) Fricotin 50/1, A fairly useful hurdles/chase winner for Francois Nicolle in 2022 but no show in a handicap chase/hurdle for new yard this winter. Too soon to write off but has something to prove for now. Two-time French winner; one to watch in betting but he's struggled so far in Britain. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Now that the penny has dropped for PRESENT FAIR after a taking success at Uttoxeter last month, there could be far more to come from the son of Presenting despite a 3lb rise. Freddy Robinson has been kept fit for his return to hurdles courtesy of a pair of runs on the Flat at Newcastle, while Very Excellent has strong claims on his penultimate effort at Cartmel when runner-up.
THUNDERCLAP made steady progress in this sphere last season and, with his reappearance under his belt, he's put forward as the answer. Present Fair came out on top under a hands-and-heels ride at Uttoxeter last month and looks sure to go well again.
The Donald McCain-trained PRESENT FAIR appreciated the return to hurdling when winning at Uttoxeter last month and can follow up.
Ths is the racecard key.
