17/2(-89%) | (4) Rath An Iuir 17/2, Back to form when winning amateur jockeys' handicap at Kelso for the second successive season last month. Had a hard race that day, however, and not an obvious one to follow up. First-time visor worked at Kelso over Christmas; can struggle to hold his form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (7/1 -17%) Innisfree Lad |
7/1(-17%) | (2) Innisfree Lad 7/1, Strong in the betting when taking advantage of a much-reduced mark a Doncaster, a breathing operation and fitting of a first-time tongue tie presumably the catalyst. Undone by 8 lb rise when upped in class at Ludlow since but should be more competitive back in veteran company. Change of headgear. Recent winner on a good mark but poor last time and now goes in new blinkers. |

This can go to DIDERO VALLIS who was found out by the bad conditions at Chepstow last time but had run well enough the time before.

12/1(-243%) | (3) Event Of Sivola 12/1, Took advantage of a reduced mark at Hexham (3m, heavy) in December and even better form when runner-up over C&D on New Year's Day. Considered. Close second here last time and every chance of being involved off an untouched mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (28/1 -75%) Old Page |
28/1(-75%) | (10) Old Page 28/1, Ran one of his better races when second of 4 at Newcastle last time but that's weak form and he's 8 lb out of the handicap here. 0-21 under rules and only four ran when second at Newcastle (2m7f, heavy). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/4 +25%) Sadler's Bay |
9/4(+25%) | (1) Sadler's Bay 9/4, Fair maiden hurdler who has taken well to fences, finishing runner-up in 3m handicaps at Southwell and Exeter on his last 2 outings. Ought to give another good account. Beat all bar an in-form rival over 3m at Exeter (heavy) three weeks ago; thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (20/1 +0%) Sigurd |
20/1(+0%) | (8) Sigurd 20/1, Dual C&D winner but failed to build on his Wetherby reappearance when pulled up back here just after Christmas. Blinkers and tongue tie go back on now and his last 3 wins have come when partnered by Brian Hughes. Positive signs at Wetherby but he then pulled up over C&D; worth taking on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/1 -69%) Da Vinci Hand |
11/1(-69%) | (5) Da Vinci Hand 11/1, Seemingly not the force of old but did take a step back in the right direction from his reduced mark when 14 lengths second in November. Needs to prove he can stay this far. Beaten 14l last time; all his best form is over shorter distances; cheekpieces new. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (28/1 -12%) Largy Train |
28/1(-12%) | (4) Largy Train 28/1, Made a winning debut in bumper for Stuart Crawford in May 2021 but was pulled up on 4 of his 5 starts over hurdles and finished well behind Event of Sivola when fifth of 6 on his C&D chase debut on New Year's Day. 25-1 for his recent chase debut here and trailed in fifth of the six runners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (5/4 +64%) Invictus Allen |
5/4(+64%) | (6) Invictus Allen 5/4, Improved with cheekpieces added when runner-up in his second handicap chase. Not in the same form when 18 lengths fourth at Fakenham since but he remains less exposed than most at this level. The cheekpieces are left off now. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (12/1 +52%) Country Kitten |
12/1(+52%) | (9) Country Kitten 12/1, Caused a surprise when taking 6-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (23f, heavy) last March, but that is very much a standout effort and she was a well-held sixth over C&D 13 days ago. Finished well behind the principals on her recent return to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (14/1 -211%) Auditoria |
14/1(-211%) | (2) Auditoria 14/1, Returned from 5 months off with a creditable second at Fontwell (19.5f) in October. Unseated mid-race at Leicester (23f) in November but she's certainly not out of things with blinkers now replacing the visor. Probably in decent form; should go well, for all that's yet to prove herself beyond 2m6f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
At the age of six INVICTUS ALLEN is the youngest horse in the field and the one open to most improvement.

1st (5) (9/4 +18%) Herakles Westwood |
9/4(+18%) | (5) Herakles Westwood 9/4, Fair form in bumpers and much improved over hurdles when landing 13-runner handicap at Lingfield (19.5f, good to soft) in November. Handled dire conditions fine when following up from 9 lb higher at Fontwell (21.8f, heavy) last month and every chance he can make it 3 on the spin. Progressive 7yo who has won his last two and could take latest 5lb rise in his stride. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/2 +18%) Hajey |
9/2(+18%) | (2) Hajey 9/2, Progressive in handicaps last season, landing this race, and returned to form to resume winning ways in 4-runner C&D handicap (heavy) 27 days ago, staying on to lead again run-in. Nudged up 4 lb and likely to go well once more. Likes it here; won this race last year & did it in good style over C&D latest; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/3 +39%) Autumn Return |
10/3(+39%) | (1) Autumn Return 10/3, Course winner who posted a career best when bagging 6-runner handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (19.8f, soft) in November. Had no answer to a revitalised one at Market Rasen 15 days ago but remains one to be interested in, especially now back up in trip. 2-2 in 2m4f handicaps and she's a solid contender now back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (11/1 -47%) Halpha Soleil |
11/1(-47%) | (10) Halpha Soleil 11/1, Successful twice in French bumpers and came good over hurdles in a Sedgefield handicap on Boxing Day. However, shaped as if amiss when pulled up in a similar race there 12 days ago. Won at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and obvious excuse back there since; retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (14/1 -40%) Golfe Clair |
14/1(-40%) | (4) Golfe Clair 14/1, Made a winning hurdles debut for Joseph Patrick O'Brien back in June 2021 and doubled his tally on his first start for his current yard later that summer. Picked up another win at Sedgefield in March 2022 and understandably shaped as if needing the run on first start since there last month. Second in this in 2022; soundly beaten at Sedgefield last month but after a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (14/1 -100%) Sambezi |
14/1(-100%) | (3) Sambezi 14/1, Resumed winning ways with a dominant display in a 20f Worcester handicap hurdle in May. Hit with a 9 lb rise on the back of that and shaped as if better for the run after 8 months off when last of 3 in a Fontwell handicap (17.7f) 29 days ago. Progressive last spring and he may have needed last month's return to action. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (11/2 +15%) Captain Potter |
11/2(+15%) | (9) Captain Potter 11/2, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 1½m) for Mark Walford who left his hurdling debut form well behind when winning 8-runner maiden at Sedgefield (19.8f, heavy) 12 days ago. Heads into handicaps now armed with a handy weight-for-age allowance and should be competitive. Won at Sedgefield recently and receives valuable 4yo allowance on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (33/1 -106%) City Derby |
33/1(-106%) | (7) City Derby 33/1, Consistent sort who produced a rare below-par effort after 3 months off when a well-held sixth in 8-runner handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (19.8f, soft) 19 days ago. Type to bounce back quickly. Below par at Musselburgh when back from 100 days off, but running well prior to his break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (33/1 -136%) Uno Mas |
33/1(-136%) | (11) Uno Mas 33/1, Five-time winner in 2021 but very lightly raced since and has run poorly on his last 2 outings. Lots to prove. Mark continues to fall but tailed off the last twice and needs to turn things around. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (28/1 -27%) Coral Blue |
28/1(-27%) | (8) Coral Blue 28/1, Three-time winner last season but hasn't fired both starts this term. On the plus side, his mark continues to ease. Three wins last season but well beaten on both starts this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (100/1 -525%) Iwa |
100/1(-525%) | (6) Iwa 100/1, Dual chase winner in France who showed fair form when placed twice from 3 races over hurdles in 2021/22. Has a long absence to overcome on first start for new yard and market can prove a good guide. Two-time French chase winner who returns from absence; one to watch in the betting. |

Last year's winner HAJEY (nap) likes it here, having added a second C&D win last month, and is the selection ahead of Autumn Return.

1st (7) (6/1 +50%) Noche Negra |
6/1(+50%) | (7) Noche Negra 6/1, Down the field all 3 starts in maiden hurdles but was placed in points earlier in his career so no surprise he showed more when third at Market Rasen on handicap/chase debut. Back down in trip. Third over 3m on chase/handicap debut and could benefit from today's drop back in distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (4/1 +33%) Henry Gray |
4/1(+33%) | (8) Henry Gray 4/1, Just modest form at best in a trio of hurdling outings but this former point winner has shaped with encouragement on both chase outings and he could benefit from this sharper test. Encouraging third at Bangor last month, when making bad early mistake; he's a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (6/4 +63%) Empty Nest |
6/4(+63%) | (9) Empty Nest 6/4, Promising signs so far over fences, catching the eye with his finishing effort when third here 36 days ago. More to come, so could be the answer. Close third over C&D latest and every chance this unexposed 6yo will continue to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (4/1 +0%) Hokelami |
4/1(+0%) | (5) Hokelami 4/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time, left chase bow well behind when winning 6-runner handicap at Market Rasen 15 days ago, pushed out. More to come over fences and likely to go well again. Made all at Market Rasen recently on second chase start and respected up 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (12/1 +52%) Master Breffni |
12/1(+52%) | (1) Master Breffni 12/1, Unplaced completed start in points and just a modest maiden hurdler in Ireland. Best watched on chase/yard debut. Struggled over hurdles on final three runs for Jim Dreaper; return to form needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (9/1 -50%) Hollington |
9/1(-50%) | (4) Hollington 9/1, Some promise in bumpers but made little impact in a trio of Irish maiden hurdles for Stuart Crawford. Has won twice in points since then, including on most recent outing in April, and not disgraced when fifth on yard debut at Sedgefield on Boxing Day. Makes quick switch to chasing for handicap bow. Two-time point winner who could be an improver now back up in trip on chase/handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

1st (3) (3/1 +54%) Letthedustsettle |
3/1(+54%) | (3) Letthedustsettle 3/1, Successful on his sole outing in points and shaped with promise in a couple of his qualifying runs over hurdles. Does need to shrug off a disappointing run on his recent Leicester handicap debut, though. Tailed off on handicap debut but still very early days and he showed promise previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/2 +0%) We Still Believe |
9/2(+0%) | (8) We Still Believe 9/2, Reacted well to a visor when 12 lengths second of 13 at Musselburgh 19 days ago, going down only to a progressive sort with the reopposing Milajess back in third. Big player if the headgear works a second time. 12l second to fast-improving winner at Musselburgh; strong claims if reproducing that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (10/3 -11%) Ring Of Beara |
10/3(-11%) | (2) Ring Of Beara 10/3, Fair Flat performer who has reached the frame on all bar one of his 7 starts over hurdles, albeit he was beaten 29 lengths into second in 2m Southwell handicap latest. On a handy mark on last season's juvenile form but hasn't really shone this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (6/1 +8%) Milajess |
6/1(+8%) | (4) Milajess 6/1, Down in weights and first sign of promise for current yard when third of 13 at Musselburgh (2m, soft) 19 days ago, although the reopposing We Still Believe was ahead in second. 0-15 but encouraging third behind easy winner at Musselburgh latest & could be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (9/2 +10%) Misty Mani |
9/2(+10%) | (7) Misty Mani 9/2, Won 3 on the bounce in 2022 and bounced back following a strong of underwhelming efforts when placed at Market Rasen and over 19f here on her last 2 outings. Placed the last twice (here most recently) and can give another good account. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (17/2 -55%) Lahire |
17/2(-55%) | (5) Lahire 17/2, Vastly improved with cheekpieces added when landing 8-runner juvenile hurdle at Sedgefield (soft) in October. Very disappointing back there following month but remains unexposed now handicapping after a short break. Won juvenile hurdle at Sedgefield in October; tailed off there since but not written off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A chance can be taken on JIMMY BOY, who was well held in sixth at Fakenham latest but was dropped 5lb for that effort. The son of Elzaam was sent off at a big price that day but dropping in grade could see him go close. Ring Of Beara was well beaten into second on heavy ground last time, but he could be seen in a better light off a 2lb lower rating with the conditions unlikely to be as testing. Of the remainder, Milajess appeals most.
WE STILL BELIEVE was the only one able to serve it up to a very well-treated rival when second at Musselburgh last time and could take a bit of pegging back if showing up here in similar form. Milajess was 3½ lengths behind the selection in third at Musselburgh and may provide the chief threat ahead of Lahire, who should be up to making his presence felt from this mark if recapturing the form he showed when winning a Sedgefield juvenile in the autumn.
The reapplied visor prompted a return to form from WE STILL BELIEVE at Musselburgh last time. He's the pick ahead of Milajess.

1st (1) (7/4 +30%) Wendigo |
7/4(+30%) | (1) Wendigo 7/4, £70,000 recruit from the Irish pointing field who built on his Worcester debut third when landing short odds at Hexham (heavy) in November. Ought to be very competitive under the penalty. Irish point winner and has finished third and first in his two bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (2/1 +6%) Wilful |
2/1(+6%) | (2) Wilful 2/1, Cost €105,000 as a 3-y-o and having been too free at Stratford on debut, showed much improved form to get off the mark at this C&D (good to soft) just over 5 weeks ago, showing a willing attitude under pressure. Has a penalty to carry, but there's plenty to like. Nicely on top at the finish over C&D a month ago; could be the one they have to beat. |

25/1(+0%) | (5) Foster's Fortune 25/1, Down the field but not beaten far in a couple of bumpers this winter (latest over C&D). Step forward required if he's to get involved. Difficult to see why he should be reversing latest course placings with Wilful. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
WILFUL took a pleasant step forward from his debut effort to score by three lengths over C&D last time, and he now has a 7lb penalty to shoulder. The son of Westerner could have plenty more to offer and looks the one to beat. Wendigo justified odds-on favouritism on heavy ground at Hexham and it would be no surprise to see him thereabouts, while any market confidence behind Diva B would also be of interest.
This looks to concern penalised runners WENDIGO and Wilful, with preference for the former having confirmed the promise of his Rules debut at Hexham 9 weeks ago. Jonjo O'Neill's charge showed a willing attitude to open his account over C&D last month, so he won't allow the selection to have it all his own way, while Diva B and Saxon Star are a couple of interesting debutantes worth keeping an eye on, too.
Wilful is preferred to Wendigo of the previous winners but, as a 4yo filly, DIVA B is getting plenty of weight off that pair.
Ths is the racecard key.
