1st (2) (10/11 -14%) It's All About You |
10/11(-14%) | (2) It's All About You 10/11, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat, winning at Ayr (13f) and Ffos Las (2m) in the summer. Probably didn't need to match that form to make a successful hurdling debut in 11-runner novice at Newcastle 18 days ago but there's surely better to come. Quite useful Flat stayer; won over 2m1f on jumps debut; should improve; the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (33/1 -32%) Norah's Legacy |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Norah's Legacy 33/1, Has shaped like a stayer in a couple of bumpers, so the step up in trip should help now hurdling. Fair fifth in two bumpers; needs to improve for this longer trip and the switch to jumping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (1/1 +27%) Dance And Glance |
1/1(+27%) | (1) Dance And Glance 1/1, Plumpton bumper winner who took a thin 2m maiden hurdle at Southwell last month and ran well in a much stronger event at Taunton next time, seeming to hit the line quite well even if unable to go with the promising first 2 in the latter stages. More to come as his jumping improves. Bumper winner; won at 2-13 on hurdles debut; fair third next time; up in trip; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (125/1 -150%) Fancy Nancy Pants |
125/1(-150%) | (6) Fancy Nancy Pants 125/1, Well held in 2 bumpers and on Sedgefield hurdling debut. Fair fourth in a bumper here but no real promise on h'dle debut last week; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (66/1 +34%) Shadowfax Of Rohan |
66/1(+34%) | (5) Shadowfax Of Rohan 66/1, In frame all 3 outings in bumpers but has offered little in a pair of maiden hurdles. Ex-Nigel Twiston-Davies; fair in bumpers but modest efforts over hurdles; hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (28/1 -40%) King Casey |
28/1(-40%) | (3) King Casey 28/1, Thrice-raced maiden under NH rules who offered a bit to work on for new connections (previously trained by Eoin Doyle and sold €20,000) after 8 months off when fifth of 8 in 2m novice hurdle at Wetherby 25 days ago, unsuited by drop in trip. Back up in distance. Ex-Irish; modest form so far, including on stable debut; improvement needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU recorded back-to-back victories on the Flat last summer before bolting up on his hurdles debut at Newcastle last month. That round of jumping was far from unblemished, but he ought to know more this time around and is taken to fend off the likely challenge of Dance And Glance, who will need to jump better than he did at Taunton in November. Norah's Legacy showed ability in bumpers and isn't without a chance now sent over hurdles.
IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU was by no means polished in the jumping department when making a successful start in this sphere at Newcastle the previous month, but his Flat form suggests there's much better to come from him as a hurdler, so he's taken to defy a penalty at the likely expense of Dance And Glance, who has scope for better still.
Although not entirely fluent when winning on his jumps debut IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU will be suited by stepping up to 2m3f and can follow up.

1st (4) (1/1 +43%) Beat The Edge |
1/1(+43%) | (4) Beat The Edge 1/1, Only the one win from 28 starts but positive start for this yard when runner-up at Sedgefield and this C&D. May have to play second fiddle once again. 1-23 over fences; runner-up the last twice, latest over C&D last week; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 -9%) Just Gino |
6/1(-9%) | (1) Just Gino 6/1, Fetched £100,000 after winning sole start in points and posted best effort from 3 starts over hurdles when fourth of 11 on return at Warwick. Fast-tracked over fences but failed to fire both starts this autumn. Headgear/tongue strap applied. Irish point winner; fair form over hurdles and fences; now tried in headgear; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (14/1 -75%) Cudgel |
14/1(-75%) | (3) Cudgel 14/1, All 6 career wins have been registered at Hexham but always behind there on return. Entitled to come on for that, however, and has ran well at this track, so no forlorn hope. All 6 wins at Hexham (in the frame all 3 runs here); will come on for last run; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/8 +8%) Bebside Banter |
11/8(+8%) | (2) Bebside Banter 11/8, Enhanced good chase record when making a winning return at Sedgefield and creditable third there 5 weeks ago (solid form). Good chance of resuming winning ways. Better over fences than hurdles; didn't run to his best last time; could go well. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Beat The Edge would be a deserved winner having occupied the runner-up spot on his last two starts, but preference is for BEBSIDE BANTER. He made most at Sedgefield two starts ago but wasn't able to back it up having faced competition for the lead there last time. Chris Grant's charge looks the likely pace angle here, though, and given a clean round of jumping he ought to hold every chance. Just Gino heads the remainder.
BEBSIDE BANTER has made a positive start to this campaign and this looks a good opportunity for him to resume winning ways. Beat The Edge can fill the runner-up spot again.
In a trappy race the suggestion is BEBSIDE BANTER who is better than he showed last time. Cudgel could prove his main threat.

1st (2) (9/2 +18%) How About No |
9/2(+18%) | (2) How About No 9/2, Fairly useful winner on Flat and placed all 4 starts in maiden hurdles for Joseph O'Brien. Low-key for new yard over timber at Newcastle but this is easier down markedly in trip. Ex-Joseph O'Brien; AW Flat winner; below par on stable debut (2m6f); not out of it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (13/8 -95%) Pigeon House |
13/8(-95%) | (1) Pigeon House 13/8, Won twice over hurdles (at up to 18.2f) when trained by Jessie Harrington. Has run well in similar events the last twice for new yard, for all he's found a double penalty too great a burden, and he's got to be respected back down in trip. Ex-Jessica Harrington; 2-17; runner-up both starts for this yard; down in trip; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (6/4 +55%) Stressfree |
6/4(+55%) | (3) Stressfree 6/4, Useful handicapper on Flat (stays 1½m), creditable effort last time. Related to a jumps winner in France and worth a look starting out in this sphere. Useful on Flat at 1m2f; goes on soft; interesting newcomer but not a certain stayer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/1 +64%) Travis Wheatley |
9/1(+64%) | (4) Travis Wheatley 9/1, Point winner in May and shaped encouragingly switched to Rules when second in Newcastle bumper in October. Well held with How About No on hurdles debut there 5 weeks ago and open to improvement. UK point winner; 2nd in a bumper; well beaten on hurdles debut; down in trip; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (50/1 -150%) Uncertain Terms |
50/1(-150%) | (5) Uncertain Terms 50/1, €20,000 3-y-o, €8,000 5-y-o, Yeats gelding. Closely related to a winner, and half-brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Tuzo and fair chaser Here We Have It. Maiden pointer, fourth of 5 finishers last time (Nov 2). Needs to hit the ground running on hurdles debut. Ex-Irish pointer; in the frame all 3 starts in the autumn; bought 8,000euros; yard debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Pigeon House sets the standard with an official rating of 130 but having failed to get the job done at odds of 5-6 on Boxing Day, STRESSFREE looks worth taking a chance on. David O'Meara's useful Flat performer isn't pitched in particularly deep and if transferring his ability to this sphere, he could prove tough to beat. How About No is also noted.
PIGEON HOUSE has made a good start over hurdles for Jennie Candlish for all he's twice found one too strong and he looks the one to beat despite the drop in trip. Useful Flat performer Stressfree might be the danger.
A tricky novice contest can go to PIGEON HOUSE who hasn't the best of strike rates but has the best form. How About No is next best.

1st (4) (9/2 +55%) Ensel Du Perche |
9/2(+55%) | (4) Ensel Du Perche 9/2, A dual 17f chase winner last term but he comes here on the back of a below-form sixth of 10 in handicap chase at Hexham (15.6f, soft) 21 days ago. Needs to get back on track. Front runner; two wins in summer of 2023; not run as well since; on a good mark; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (15/8 +32%) Master Breffni |
15/8(+32%) | (2) Master Breffni 15/8, A fair winner at 19f over hurdles and he resumed from 7 months off with a good fifth of 7 in novice chase at Carlisle (15.9f, soft) 31 days ago, not knocked about. Needs considering. Won a Carlisle handicap hurdle in March; stiff task on chase debut; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/11 +34%) Flamelco |
10/11(+34%) | (1) Flamelco 10/11, Gained a first win over fences for his new yard in 9-runner handicap chase over C&D (good) 15 days ago by 9 lengths from Langton Wold, forging clear from the last. Hiked up 8 lb but looks weighted to go in again. In good form; off the mark over fences over C&D; last time; up 8lb; should go well again. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
FLAMELCO built on his respectable second at Hereford when scoring in emphatic fashion over C&D 15 days ago. An 8lb rise in the ratings is partially negated by Jay Tidball's 5lb claim and a brace looks on the cards. Langton Wold finished nine lengths behind the selection on that occasion but could get closer this time, while Master Breffni will likely appreciate the return to handicap company.
FLAMELCO has made an excellent start for his current yard and is taken to make light of an 8 lb rise for his emphatic C&D success and again fend off Brian Ellison's in-form Langton Wold. Master Breffin can't be discounted either on the back of his encouraging Carlisle fifth last time out.
The well-treated ENSEL DU PERCHE is taken to bounce back to form by beating the in-form pair of Flamelco and Langton Wold.

1st (7) (5/2 0%) Jongleur D'etoiles |
5/2(0%) | (7) Jongleur D'etoiles 5/2, A typical quiet improver from this in-form yard, progressed for second run in headgear (retained today) when scoring at Wincanton (24.7f, heavy) 27 days ago (held up, not always fluent, travelled well, won decisively). Similar tactics likely today and should get a decent pace to aim at. Big player. Off the mark in novice handicap at Wincanton last time; now 10lb higher; each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/1 +25%) Edgewell |
9/1(+25%) | (8) Edgewell 9/1, Off the mark at the fourth attempt over fences with a cosy success in handicap at Downpatrick (23.7f) in October but not in same form (on toes in preliminaries and jumped poorly) when sixth of 8 in at Kelso (23.4f, good to soft) 67 days ago. Visor replaces cheekpieces on return to hurdles. Easy winner of h'cap chase at Downpatrick in October; lesser run latest; now back hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/1 +29%) Rumble B |
10/1(+29%) | (3) Rumble B 10/1, Notched 3 wins in the first half of 2024 and likely needed comeback run after 6 months off (raced off the pace, some headway before 2 out, never landed a blow) when sixth of 10 over C&D 15 days ago. Entitled to come on for that effort. In good form in the spring; never on terms with Be The Difference latest; better expected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (10/1 +38%) Just Jess |
10/1(+38%) | (9) Just Jess 10/1, C&D winner is on a lengthy losing run and ran poorly when pulled up in handicap chase at Newcastle (23.4f, good to soft, 9/2) 18 days ago, tailing off from early. Probably best to look elsewhere. Back hurdling after two modest runs over fences; best watched until showing a bit more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (9/2 -13%) Robert D'ores |
9/2(-13%) | (5) Robert D'ores 9/2, Career-best under Brian Hughes when winning 16-runner handicap hurdle (4/1) at Hexham (23.3f, soft) 21 days ago, travelled well through the race and won comfortably. Up 11 lb for that but second has franked form (won last week) and has to be respected in bid to follow up. Back to form after wind op, last time winning in good style at Hexham; up 9lb; good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (5/1 -50%) Be The Difference |
5/1(-50%) | (1) Be The Difference 5/1, Built on comeback run (second of 13 at Doncaster, 19.5f) when landing a dominant victory over C&D 15 days ago (keen in rear early, allowed to stride on, built up insurmountable lead and always holding on). May have more competition for the lead today but has an excellent chance of following up. Possibly flattered by his C&D win last time; up 5lb; in good form so not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (28/1 -100%) Fainche |
28/1(-100%) | (6) Fainche 28/1, Winless following 26 attempts but ended last term in good heart, runner-up in handicap at Newcastle (23.7f, heavy) in April. Shaped as if needing the run after 7 months off at Hexham 28 days ago. Cheekpieces added today (has worn them for previous trainer) but has a bit to find here. Long-standing maiden; not been in best of form last twice; headgear tried; bit to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
JONGLEUR D'ETOILES justified sustained support in the market when opening his account at Wincanton last month. Although the handicapper has reacted with a 10lb hike in the ratings, the son of It's Gino is relatively unexposed over staying distances and there looks to be more to come. Hexham scorer Robert d'Ores beat a subsequent winner by over nine lengths and is respected, likewise last month's C&D winner Be The Difference.
A couple of these like to race prominently and this could be set up nicely for last-time-out winner JONGLEUR D'ETOILES, who tends to be held up and would benefit from a truly-run race. Be the Difference is likely to be pushing the pace (along with Balkotic) following his dominant front-running victory here earlier this month. He's very much respected as the main danger, while the in-form Robert d'Ores can go well again.
Preference is for ROBERT D'ORES (nap), whose Hexham win was boosted by the runner-up winning at Wetherby on Friday.

1st (1) (10/11 +0%) Maghlaak |
10/11(+0%) | (1) Maghlaak 10/11, Fairly useful Flat winner for Charle Hills, including a Class 2 Goodwood handicap in May. Promise in second hurdles start for this yard and progressed to score impressively at Wetherby (16f, soft) 5 days ago, showing all his speed from the Flat. Looks to have an outstanding chance under a penalty. Useful on Flat and he won a novice hurdle last week; interesting on handicap hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (14/1 +36%) Belle Na Bann |
14/1(+36%) | (6) Belle Na Bann 14/1, Successful at Newcastle last December and followed up here over C&D (heavy) the following month, beating Restandbethankful. Inconsistent since and failed to come on for comeback run when well-beaten here (19.3f, good) 15 days ago. Best to look elsewhere on recent evidence. Won this off the same mark last year but she needs a major revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (4/1 +80%) Walk In The Valley |
4/1(+80%) | (3) Walk In The Valley 4/1, Not disgraced both starts in points in spring 2023 and showed a bit more in third start over hurdles (made brief headway after 3 out but never landed a blow) when fifth of 9 at Sedgefield 26 days ago. Makes handicap debut today. Still early days and now goes handicapping but he needs a much more dynamic effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/4 +31%) Restandbethankful |
11/4(+31%) | (2) Restandbethankful 11/4, Won 5-runner handicap chase at Cartmel (17f, soft) in August but couldn't cash in on lower hurdles mark when third of 10 at Musselburgh (15.6f, good to soft) last month. That was his best effort over hurdles for a while and could be dangerous from the front at a course he's run well at before. Won over fences in August and was a good third back over hurdles last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (16/1 -14%) Bunker Bay |
16/1(-14%) | (5) Bunker Bay 16/1, Fair handicapper on Flat (stays 2m), won once in 2023. Sold from William Knight's yard for 13,000 gns in October. Best run in novice event latest (fifth of 8, Cartmel, soft, 17.2f) and can do better now handicapping. Makes handicap hurdle debut after an absence and he needs checking in market. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Maghlaak landed a novice hurdle at Wetherby recently with something in hand and he must enter calculations shouldering a 7lb penalty on his handicap bow over hurdles. However, RESTANDBETHANKFUL arrives on the back of a solid third at Musselburgh and that form looks a touch stronger. Lizzie Quinlan's charge shades the verdict and a career eighth victory may be on the horizon. Love True is the pick of the remainder.
MAGHLAAK should have too much speed for these at the business end of the race. Restandbethankful could pose a danger if getting an easy time of things on the front end, while Love True can hit the frame again.
Useful Flat performer MAGHLAAK made his breakthrough over hurdles last week and is open to more progress on this switch to a handicap.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
