4/7(+7%) | (12) Wellington Arch 4/7, Fairly useful bumper winner last season who translated that ability to hurdles at the first time of asking when second on 17f Exeter reappearance 37 days ago. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (4/1 +43%) Throatlash |
4/1(+43%) | (9) Throatlash 4/1, £30,000 after winning an Irish point in October. Respected hurdle newcomer. Point winner who brings potential to today's rules debut and could be in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (16/1 -167%) Tech That |
16/1(-167%) | (8) Tech That 16/1, Runner-up in a point in May and showed plenty when beaten just over a length into fourth in a Ffos Las bumper (heavy) last month. Should have a future over hurdles. Has gone close in a point and a bumper and he's one to consider on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (100/1 -52%) Lord De Vinci |
100/1(-52%) | (4) Lord De Vinci 100/1, Fourth both starts in Irish points in April 2023. Off for 609 days ahead of this hurdle debut. A watching brief is advised. Displayed promise in Irish points in April 2023 but absent since and may be best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (250/1 -150%) Jersey Stream |
250/1(-150%) | (2) Jersey Stream 250/1, Sent off at 40/1 when down the field in a Wetherby bumper in March. Best watched unless the betting hints a lot better is anticipated. His dam was a French hurdle/chase winner but he was tailed off at 40-1 in his sole bumper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (250/1 -67%) Big Storm Brewing |
250/1(-67%) | (1) Big Storm Brewing 250/1, Well held in a Perth bumper and 19f course novice hurdle 6 months apart. Tailed off on both starts, more recently when 300-1 for hurdle debut here a fortnight ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (11/1 -38%) Val Bassett |
11/1(-38%) | (10) Val Bassett 11/1, Fair but temperamental stayer on Flat, successful on most recent outing at Newcastle last month. Showed some aptitude for hurdling when third of 6 at Cartmel in August but isn't sure to step up on that. Fair third at Cartmel in August on sole hurdle start and won on AW in October; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (100/1 -52%) Vampire Slayer |
100/1(-52%) | (11) Vampire Slayer 100/1, Fair maiden on the Flat but unable to land a blow both hurdles starts and is probably one for later on. Hood fitted. Has shown ability on the Flat but 0-13 in that code and well beaten on both hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (28/1 -40%) Monsieur Le Fuzz |
28/1(-40%) | (5) Monsieur Le Fuzz 28/1, Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points. Better effort in novice hurdles for new connections when 17 lengths fourth of 6 at Market Rasen (20.5f) 10 days ago. Drops back in trip now. Point runner-up; 4th of 6 at Market Rasen on second hurdle run; needs further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (22/1 -10%) Sam's Falcon |
22/1(-10%) | (7) Sam's Falcon 22/1, Showed ability when 11¼ lengths sixth of 12 to Epic West in C&D novice 26 days ago. May do better again. Yet to threaten but ran okay when sixth over C&D last time and has an each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (3) (250/1 -150%) Just Winging It |
250/1(-150%) | (3) Just Winging It 250/1, 80/1 and tailed off in a bumper at Ayr in October. Always behind and tailed off at 80-1 on debut in an Ayr bumper in October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (6) (8/1 -23%) Old But Gold |
8/1(-23%) | (6) Old But Gold 8/1, £80,000 purchase after finishing runner-up sole start in Irish points (Feb 2024). Subsequently had wind surgery. It'll be interesting to see what the betting makes of this one. Changed hands for £80,000 after going close in a point on debut; could have a part to play. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
WELLINGTON ARCH was no match for a short-priced favourite on his hurdling bow at Exeter, but there were positives to be taken from that performance. The O'Neills' gelding will have learned plenty and is expected to go one better with the experience under his belt. Val Bassett was a winner on the Flat at Newcastle in October and might prove to be the main threat, although Tech That shaped with promise on his sole bumper start and is another to consider.
This looks a good chance for WELLINGTON ARCH to go one better than on his hurdle debut. Donald McCain point recruit Throatlash may provide the main threat ahead of Tech That, who was a close fourth in a Ffos Las bumper last month.
Having kept on well to go close in a 3m point and a bumper, this stiff track should be ideal for TECH THAT on his hurdle debut.

1st (4) (11/4 +39%) King Of Tara |
11/4(+39%) | (4) King Of Tara 11/4, A fairly useful 2m novice hurdle winner who comes here on the back of a good fourth of 17 in 2m3f Chepstow handicap 23 days ago. Type to make a chaser so he must enter calculations. Soft-ground novice hurdle winner; the drop back in trip could be a plus on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/2 -83%) Disco Annie |
11/2(-83%) | (3) Disco Annie 11/2, Bagged back-to-back 17f Carlisle handicap hurdles last month before posting a solid sixth in 2m Newbury Listed hurdle 15 days ago. This Irish points runner-up is a likely player starting out over fences. Won two handicap hurdles here last month; could continue to progress now tackling fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (13/2 +19%) Cold Sobar |
13/2(+19%) | (1) Cold Sobar 13/2, Winning Irish pointer who scored twice over hurdles at Newcastle in the spring of 2023. Off for 14 months since an excellent fourth in Chepstow Grade 2 novice but he can't be discounted now going chasing. Worth a market check. Point and two-time novice hurdle winner; returns from absence but interesting nevertheless. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (5/1 +29%) Leitrim Chief |
5/1(+29%) | (5) Leitrim Chief 5/1, Showed ability over hurdles and stepped up on his chase debut when third of 12 in a Hexham handicap (15.6f, heavy) in April. Since undergone breathing surgery and needs considering on his return. Did well to finish third at Hexham on second chase start having been hampered two out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (10/3 -21%) Fia Fuinidh |
10/3(-21%) | (7) Fia Fuinidh 10/3, Yet to score over fences but he is knocking on the door, second of 6 in 2m1f Kelso handicap last month. Up 2 lb but he can go well again. 0-8 over fences but runner-up four times and could be bang there once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (6) (9/1 +55%) Ballyfort |
9/1(+55%) | (6) Ballyfort 9/1, Showed promise over hurdles but jumped left and was welll held when falling last on his chasing debut in 2m handicap at Hexham last month. Worth another chance. Placed in points and over hurdles, but well beaten when final-fence faller on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (12/1 -85%) Stylish Recruit |
12/1(-85%) | (2) Stylish Recruit 12/1, Irish point winner who readily surpassed previous hurdling exploits when a game winner of a Hexham novice (16.2f) in June. Since had a wind op and much respected now attentions switch to larger obstacles. Point and novice hurdle winner who could improve for the switch to fences; handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Point-to-point winner STYLISH RECRUIT gained a narrow success over hurdles at Hexham in June, but chasing ought to be more his game and it would come as no surprise were Sandy Thomson's gelding to find the required improvement. Disco Annie found Listed company a step too far at Newbury, but she is of interest now sent over the larger obstacles. Market support for useful hurdler Cold Sobar would be noteworthy following a 429-day absence.
None of these can be ruled out but the vote goes to DISCO ANNIE who was runner-up in an Irish point and arrives at the top of her game over hurdles. She is taken to go in at the first time of asking in this sphere for her in-form yard ahead of fellow chasing newcomer King of Tara who brings plenty of potential too. Fia Fuinidh appeals as the pick of those with experience and can also have a say in an intriguing contest.
James Ewart's horses are running well and LEITRIM CHIEF caught the eye staying on for third at Hexham in April, after being hampered.

1st (6) (9/2 +10%) Aire Spray |
9/2(+10%) | (6) Aire Spray 9/2, Second in a Newcastle bumper last December. Poor form over hurdles since but handicaps provide him with a more realistic chance of success. Went close in a bumper last winter and shaped with promise in first two hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (6/1 +57%) Navigate West |
6/1(+57%) | (5) Navigate West 6/1, Hinted at ability on the first of 2 outings in bumpers and similar story over hurdles in spring 2023. Has a long absence to overcome but worth a precautionary betting check on handicap debut with his yard back among the winners. Displayed only minor promise in three novice hurdles in spring 2023; back from long layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (11/4 +66%) Independent Jimmy |
11/4(+66%) | (4) Independent Jimmy 11/4, Fair maiden hurdler who wasn't disgraced when fourth on his 17f course handicap debut in October. The step back up in trip may help him. Just a respectable fourth on handicap debut but this move back up in trip ought to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (13/2 -63%) Deep Strato |
13/2(-63%) | (9) Deep Strato 13/2, Point winner. Signs of ability in a bumper. Failed to make an impact in maiden/novice hurdles later in the season but no shock were he to take off in handicaps. Interesting runner, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Well beaten in three novice/maiden hurdles last season; may fare better now in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (40/1 -186%) Paddy The Panda |
40/1(-186%) | (10) Paddy The Panda 40/1, Exposed as a poor maiden handicap hurdler and likely to be vulnerable again. 0-13 over hurdles and absent since two midfield finishes in autumn 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (16/1 +36%) Perfect Arch |
16/1(+36%) | (8) Perfect Arch 16/1, Still a maiden. Placed in handicaps on the Flat and over hurdles on joining this yard at the start of the summer but he's struggled on the Flat in more recent times. Went close off this mark in June but has lost his way since; now 0-43 under all codes. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (6/1 -9%) Tees Comp's Clive |
6/1(-9%) | (2) Tees Comp's Clive 6/1, Has shaped better than the bare result in his qualifying runs and there should be more to come in handicaps. Displayed promise in two 2m4f novice races here this autumn; handicap debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (9/1 -157%) Lathan |
9/1(-157%) | (1) Lathan 9/1, Couldn't have been found a weaker maiden at Newcastle last month and would have bettered that form (looked set for second) but for falling 2 out at Wetherby just 24 hours later. Respected on handicap debut. Easily won a match last month; not easy to weigh up on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (9/1 +36%) Ballyquin Bay |
9/1(+36%) | (7) Ballyquin Bay 9/1, Reached the frame in handicap hurdles for this yard last winter but pulled up on Ayr reappearance 7 weeks ago. Needs to have come on a lot. Ran poorly on seasonal debut and is now 0-16 over hurdles; difficult to enthuse over. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Not the deepest of contests and preference is for LATHAN, who was still in contention when coming to grief two from home at Wetherby last month, a day after winning at Newcastle. An opening mark of 98 looks fair and he might not need much further improvement to land the spoils. Independent Jimmy kept on for fourth over 2m1f here in October and is an interesting contender now upped in trip, along with handicap debutant Deep Strato.
A chance is taken on DEEP STRATO, who is bred to be a good deal better than such a modest opening mark and more than hinted at ability last season. Newcastle maiden winner Lathan looks on a fair opening mark himself and is second choice ahead of Tees Comp's Clive, who also leaves the impression he could step up now handicapping.
Bumper runner-up AIRE SPRAY showed enough on his two hurdling starts last season to suggest he could be on a good opening mark.

1st (2) (10/3 +26%) Grandads Cottage |
10/3(+26%) | (2) Grandads Cottage 10/3, Added to his chase tally in a first-time tongue strap at Leicester in January and ended the term with a good eighth of 24 in the Topham at Aintree. Returns with yard in really good nick so he's a likely player. Below best when last seen but lightly raced for his age with creditable 3-8 chasing record. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (125/1 -150%) Lieutenant Command |
125/1(-150%) | (4) Lieutenant Command 125/1, Doubled his tally over fences at Leopardstown (21f) in March 2023 but has struggled since, first run since leaving Noel Meade when pulled up at Haydock 22 days ago. Has plenty to prove. Tough task last time following an absence; question mark about how much ability he retains. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 -14%) Lounge Lizard |
4/1(-14%) | (1) Lounge Lizard 4/1, Unreliable sort but he signed off last term with success in 2m4f handicap chase at Huntingdon in March. Off 9 months but not ruled out if on his A-game. Progressive last season; goes well fresh and reappears with yard in good form; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (5/1 -25%) Flic Ou Voyou |
5/1(-25%) | (5) Flic Ou Voyou 5/1, Consistent sort who bids for a hat-trick after 2m4f successes at Newcastle and here this winter. Up 6 lb but he should give another good account from the front. Made it two wins in a row when scoring over C&D last month; on softer ground today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (3) (11/2 +8%) Prairie Wolf |
11/2(+8%) | (3) Prairie Wolf 11/2, Winner of 3 of his half-a-dozen starts switched to fences last term. Yet to fire this season, though, so others appeal more. Three wins last season and well handicapped on that form, but below par this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (4/1 +20%) Marown |
4/1(+20%) | (7) Marown 4/1, Winless since 2021 but he resumed with a good second of 4 in 2m4f handicap chase here 26 days ago. Visor replaces usual cheekpieces. Place prospects once more. On long losing sequence but often runs well and is on a competitive mark; headgear change. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (9/2 +18%) William Of York |
9/2(+18%) | (6) William Of York 9/2, Completed a hat-trick over hurdles for Dan Skelton and repeated the feat for his current yard over fences in 2m4f handicap here in April. Yard is going well so this likeable sort must enter calculations on his seasonal return. Made it 3-3 in the cheekpieces when winning over C&D in April; could continue to progress. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
This looks a tricky heat to solve so only a tentative vote goes to LOUNGE LIZARD. He finished an excellent second in a hot handicap chase at Cheltenham before going one better at Huntingdon in March. Upped 3lb, he gets the nod to pick up where he left off on his reappearance. Recent course winner Flic Ou Voyou looks a danger off 6lb higher, although there is a suspicion that he may have enjoyed the run of the race on that occasion. William Of York is also noteworthy.
This is wide open but Olly Murphy has his string in excellent nick so his GRANDADS COTTAGE is taken to make a winning return and edge out the hat-trick seeking Flic Ou Voyou. William of York is another who can have a say despite having an absence to overcome, with Marown completing the shortlist.
Topweight LOUNGE LIZARD showed improved form on his final two runs last term and can make a winning return for the in-form Henry Daly.

1st (4) (10/1 +0%) Shallow River |
10/1(+0%) | (4) Shallow River 10/1, Gained reward for a string of good efforts in handicap hurdles when staying on to lead close home at Exeter (23.1f) in February and not disgraced in deeper contest at Cheltenham 2 months later. Shaped as if amiss on first start for current yard at Newton Abbot on reappearance. Needs to bounce back. May have needed his stable debut in October; good case can be made on last winter's form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +44%) D Art D Art |
9/4(+44%) | (2) D Art D Art 9/4, Career best when winning 11-runner handicap hurdle at Punchestown (20f, good, 6/1) in October. Far from disgraced when third of 23 in a handicap hurdle (10/1) at Navan (22.4f, good to soft) 28 days ago, shaping as though this step up in trip would suit. Claims here. Progressive Irish raider for whom this step up in trip could unlock further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (15/2 -125%) Gwennie May Boy |
15/2(-125%) | (1) Gwennie May Boy 15/2, Made it 3-3 for Dan Skelton with a useful performance to land a competitive staying handicap at the Aintree Grand National meeting in April, earning a further 11 lb rise for that victory, Fell at 4th flight on comeback run. Dangerous to dismiss but could be one for bigger targets down the line. Made it 3-3 for yard at Aintree's National meeting; early fall on reappearance; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/1 +29%) Gold In The Rivers |
10/1(+29%) | (5) Gold In The Rivers 10/1, Maiden hurdle winner in Ireland and ran well at Down Royal when last seen in May. Dropped back to the minimum trip starting out for new yard (£40,000 buy from Gordon Elliott) and could never land a blow. This test should be more to his liking and better expected. Below par on yard debut but this unexposed 5yo retains potential now back at staying trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (8/1 +43%) Shoeshine Boy |
8/1(+43%) | (10) Shoeshine Boy 8/1, Shaded a tight finish on his 23f Hexham reappearance in October. He had hard race that day and possible paid the price for those exertions at Ayr 43 days ago (finished 3rd of 6 but well beaten). Freshened up and should enjoy this greater stamina test back on more testing ground. C&D winner who has won three times this year; good ground perhaps not ideal last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (66/1 -32%) Fonzerelli |
66/1(-32%) | (8) Fonzerelli 66/1, Listed winner over hurdles back in 2022 but it was far from happy days on her return to the track off a 2-year absence, sent off at 100/1, finishing well beat at Ayr in April. A concern that she hasn't been seen since and question marks as to whether she is the force of old. Won Listed mares' novice hurdle in March 2022; tailed off this April after a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (18/5 +28%) Icare Allen |
18/5(+28%) | (7) Icare Allen 18/5, Shaped better than bare result when 7th of 11 at Uttoxeter (20f) at the beginning of November. Took advantage of falling handicap mark when returning to that venue (upped in trip to 3m), winning with something in hand when well-backed 3 weeks ago. Still well handicapped on the best of his form. Capitalised on reduced mark at Uttoxeter three weeks ago and he's firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (14/1 -75%) Feivel |
14/1(-75%) | (6) Feivel 14/1, Twice a winner over hurdles last season but pulled up on final start. Ran a stormer in the Southern National but jumped left throughout. He will enjoy this stamina test and is likely to make a bold bid from the front if jumping straighter. Two hurdle wins early this year; reappeared with good 2nd over fences; can make a bold bid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (4/1 +38%) Scarlet O'tara |
4/1(+38%) | (9) Scarlet O'tara 4/1, Defied a penalty at the second time of asking in 5-runner novice hurdle at Perth (20.2f, soft) at Perth in September, winning readily. Relished the step up in trip on handicap debut, scoring decisvely at Ascot (23.5f) last month. Progressive sort and should be in the mix here. Progressive mare who won on handicap debut at Ascot; could take an 8lb rise in her stride. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
This step up in trip could be the making of D ART D ART, who caught the eye when a staying-on third over an extended 2m6f at Navan and he looks the one to side with, despite a 7lb higher mark. Gwennie May Boy only got as far as the fourth on his seasonal reappearance at Haydock, but he was progressive last season and it will be no surprise if he is able to make his presence felt off a career-high mark. Icare Allen is also a key player.
ICARE ALLEN is still well-handicapped on the best of his form and he is taken to follow up his victory at Uttoxeter last month. Interesting Irish challenger D Art D Art and Gwennie May Boy can give the selection most to think about, while the progressive Scarlet O'Tara is also respected.
The step up in trip could prompt further improvement from the 5yo Irish raider D ART D ART (nap) and he can hit the target.

3rd (3) (6/1 +14%) Whosmydaddy |
6/1(+14%) | (3) Whosmydaddy 6/1, No significant impact in maiden/novice hurdles but proved a different proposition sent handicap chasing in headgear when winning over 3m at Musselburgh and Ayr. Came up short in his hat-trick bid at Hexham, however, and ran badly at Wetherby on return. Has left Sandy Thomson. 5th (5) (8/1 +60%) Uptown Harry |
8/1(+60%) | (5) Uptown Harry 8/1, Regular here who capitalised on falling mark over 24.5f in March. Well held since, however, including both starts this term. His last two wins have come here but he's struggled here on both outings this season. |

40/1(0%) | (4) C'est Quelqu'un 40/1, Recorded back-to-back handicap chase wins for Gordon Elliott last season but form has gone the wrong way since, including both starts for this yard. Pulled up on final two runs for Gordon Elliott & no return to form since joining this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (17/2 +47%) One For Dan |
17/2(+47%) | (7) One For Dan 17/2, Irish point winner but little form over hurdles/in handicap chases. Won a point in Ireland in March 2023 but struggled back under rules subsequently last year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The key to this race could be the recent clash here between GIPSY LEE ROSE (first) and Croagh Patrick (second), with the latter 4lb better off for a three-and-a-quarter-length defeat. Nick Alexander's mare is still taken to come out on top again and it may be that Rock Of Star gives her the most to think about, despite falling when well fancied on his stable debut here in October.
ROCK OF STAR was strong in the betting starting out for this yard when falling at the 11th here on his comeback in October so is worth another chance. Gipsy Lee Rose and Croagh Patrick were first and second in a similar event over C&D 2 weeks ago so also need considering.
The 10yo mare GIPSY LEE ROSE made it three wins from her last six starts when making all over C&D a fortnight ago and can follow up.

3rd (2) (3/1 +33%) Crying Lightning |
3/1(+33%) | (2) Crying Lightning 3/1, Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 21f) Guitar Pete. Showed something to work on when ninth of 12 in listed contest at Cheltenham on debut and should step forward in these calmer waters. Not devoid of promise when handed tough Listed task on debut; could play a leading role. |

15/2(+46%) | (8) Madame Bluebelle 15/2, Shaped like a stayer first time up when fourth of 8 in bumper at Ayr but not in the same form at Cheltenham next time. Others make more appeal. Yet to threaten but the stiff track is a positive and she's not ruled out; has had wind op. |

9th (9) (2/1 +20%) Oh Clare |
2/1(+20%) | (9) Oh Clare 2/1, Related to winners and started well when fourth here first time out. Should have learned from that and is open to improvement, so strong player. Promising fourth on last month's debut here and the form has a solid look to it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (28/1 -180%) Desirable Walk |
28/1(-180%) | (3) Desirable Walk 28/1, £20,000 3-y-o. Walk In The Park filly. Dam (c127/h120) 2m-2¾m hurdle/chase winner. Would enter the reckoning if the betting vibes are strong. First foal; dam useful 2m-2m5f hurdle/chase winner; may be one for further down the line. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A promising fourth on debut here when only weakening late in the piece, OH CLARE is likely to have plenty of improvement forthcoming and this appeals as an ideal opportunity to get off the mark. Down the field in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham first time out, Crying Lightning should appreciate this drop in grade, while the well-related Gintime could be the pick of the newcomers for the in-form Nicky Richards team. Little Wren and Smile Back can be monitored for market support as well.
GINTIME is bred to go well in this sphere and, if sufficiently clued up, could be capable of getting the better of Oh Clare, who is the clear pick of those with experience. Crying Lightning should find this easier than her debut in a listed race, so she's also considered.
The attractively bred 4yo OH CLARE made a positive start to her career when fourth over C&D last month and that form reads well.
Ths is the racecard key.
