Russian Virtue |
(1) (9/2 +25%)9/2(+25%) | (1) Russian Virtue 9/2, Has thrived for this yard, gaining a seventh win since December (5 hurdle, 2 Flat) when seeing off 11 rivals here (2m1f) in October. Runner-up has gone in since so he's a big player. Also engaged 2.20 Southwell. Narrow winner here in October and now 5-13 over hurdles; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jipekaa Machin |
(4) (15/8 +77%)15/8(+77%) | (4) Jipekaa Machin 15/8, A fair 2m hurdles winner who went without his usual headgear when a fading sixth of 12 in 2m4f Sedgefield handicap on his return. Can take a step forward. Drops back in trip after satisfactory seasonal debut; a possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CITY DERBY was runner-up over 2m4f at Perth in September and Lizzie Quinlan's charge holds leading claims if coping with this drop in trip. Jipekaa Machin is entitled to build on his reappearance at Sedgefield in October and is also likely to be in the shake-up, while Poppy Rose warrants respect after posting a respectable third in a 22-runner contest at Navan last month.
RUSSIAN VIRTUE hasn't looked back since joining Rebecca Menzies and is fancied to rack up win number 8 for the yard with the form of his latest course success having been franked. Irish challenger Poppy Rose rates the chief threat on the back of her good recent Navan third, with the consistent City Derby and last year's victor Applaus also in the mix in an open handicap.
Joker Du Chenet looks interesting but his stablemate POPPY ROSE gets the vote after her creditable third in a big field at Navan.

Beep Beep Burrow |
(2) (2/1 +86%)2/1(+86%) | (2) Beep Beep Burrow 2/1, Started to get the hang of things late in the day when fifth of 13 in a Doncaster bumper on debut in January. Clearly not 100% when pulled up at that venue a month later and again looked like a stayer when down the field in a Hexham bumper in April. Hurdles debut. Made quite promising bumper debut but his other two bumper runs were very disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Forged Well |
(3) (4/1 +71%)4/1(+71%) | (3) Forged Well 4/1, Jet Away gelding who was third on his completed start in Irish points. The betting should help guide to expectations. Kept on for modest third on Irish point debut in May; makes rules debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hubbel Bubbel |
(4) (9/1 +36%)9/1(+36%) | (4) Hubbel Bubbel 9/1, Showed a bit on first of 2 starts in bumpers but shaped with a little more encouragement on return/hurdles debut when fifth of 10 in a Sedgefield maiden (19.8f) 17 days ago. Entitled to improve for that initial experience. Ran well to a point at Sedgefield last month but needs to build on that effort here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Askmore |
(1) (11/8 +83%)11/8(+83%) | (1) Askmore 11/8, Ask gelding. Half-brother to modest hurdler/fair chaser Kym Eyre. Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Mar 26) but he could only run to a modest level when sixth of 12 in a course bumper (17f) 4 weeks ago. Up in trip for hurdles bow. Point winner; weakened into sixth in course bumper on rules debut; may last longer today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Time To Upgrade |
(8) (18/1 +10%)18/1(+10%) | (8) Time To Upgrade 18/1, Last of 4 finishers completed start in points. Best watched on hurdle debut unless the betting hints otherwise. Last of four finishers in an Irish point in March; best watched on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Righteous Ruane |
(6) (50/1 +24%)50/1(+24%) | (6) Righteous Ruane 50/1, Poor hurdler who is very hard to fancy on debut for new yard. Well beaten on all five hurdling starts in Ireland in spring/summer; now with new stable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
VALLEYVIEW TOMMY offered plenty to work with on his Rules debut when third at Kelso in October and any improvement from Sandy Thomson's gelding may be enough for him to open his account. Hubbel Bubbel displayed enough promise when fifth at Sedgefield last month to suggest that he can play a part in the finish too, with Askmore completing the shortlist.
Sandy Thomson holds a strong hand here with ROB ROY MACGREGOR and Valleyview Tommy looking the pair to focus on. Each displayed promise on their respective hurdling debuts recently, with the narrow vote in favour of the former who shaped as though this longer trip would suit. Hubbel Bubbel may do best of the remainder.
Course bumper winner ROB ROY MACGREGOR appears to have been found a good opportunity here.

Ivegotdapower |
(5) (5/4 +91%)5/4(+91%) | (5) Ivegotdapower 5/4, Winning Irish pointer but (11/1) last of 9 in novice hurdle at Doncaster (16.6f, good) on NH debut 16 days ago. In good hands but lots more is required. Dual Irish point winner in spring but well beaten on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Marty McFly |
(6) (8/13 +96%)8/13(+96%) | (6) Marty McFly 8/13, Dead-heated in an Irish point last year and showed fair form when in the frame both starts in bumpers for Patrick Neville. Well held on his hurdling bow at Ayr last month but may still do better. Made the frame in two spring bumpers; may have needed last month's hurdle run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wal Buck's |
(7) (10/11 +64%)10/11(+64%) | (7) Wal Buck's 10/11, Fourth sole outing in Irish points and given a considerate introduction when fifth of 12 in bumper here 28 days ago. Much respected now going over hurdles. Fourth in good Irish point in February; should improve upon his low-key bumper debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Marty Mcfly only finished seventh on his opening bid over timber at Ayr last month and sets just a modest standard of those with hurdling experience. With that in mind, it may be worth taking a chance on Irish point winner FLAUBERT. Donald McCain's charge ran out a wide-margin winner between the flags in May and he may have too much class for these rivals. Wal Buck's is another to consider.
FLAUBERT is in very good hands and appeals on paper too so Donald McCain's newcomer is taken to go in at the first time of asking and supplement his Irish point success. Fellow debutant Wal Buck's should be all the better for a recent bumper fifth here and rates the main danger ahead of Marty McFly, who could be one more for the future but needs considering if the market vibes are positive.
The suggestion is FLAUBERT, who joined Donald McCain after an impressive Irish point win in the spring.

Palm Beach |
(4) (3/1 +70%)3/1(+70%) | (4) Palm Beach 3/1, Hasn't made much of an impact in handicaps for this yard and work to do from 4 lb out of the weights. Significantly up in trip. Tongue strap back on after wind op. Lost his way last season and has been absent since June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Court Dreaming |
(3) (6/5 +52%)6/5(+52%) | (3) Court Dreaming 6/5, Back on track (in a race he won last year) returned to fences when fourth here 45 days ago. 1 lb lower back over hurdles now so needs considering. Kept on for fourth over fences here in October but tends to race lazily nowadays. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barbados Buck's |
(2) (7/4 -40%)7/4(-40%) | (2) Barbados Buck's 7/4, Back on track following a wind op last term when posting three solid placed efforts for Paul Nicholls. Proved he retains his ability on first outing this yard when fourth at Ayr on return 4 weeks ago and entitled to come on for that. Gave good account when fourth on last month's seasonal/stable debut; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
AILIE ROSE was set some stiff assignments last season, but still made great strides and picked up a nice pot at the Irish National meeting. This is her first appearance since struggling at the Punchestown Festival, but she faces an altogether different test and is capable of successfully conceding weight all round. Barbados Buck's made a pleasing start for Daragh Bourke when fourth at Ayr and looks a bigger threat than Court Dreaming.
COURT DREAMING ran well back from a break when fourth over fences here in October and is now only 1 lb higher than for his C&D win last year. Barbados Buck's made a positive start for this yard when fourth at Ayr and is next best.
The one with least to prove is BARBADOS BUCK'S (nap), who ran well on last month's stable debut at Ayr.

Begoodtoyourself |
(9) (3/1 +79%)3/1(+79%) | (9) Begoodtoyourself 3/1, Limitations have long been exposed but he at least ran up to his recent best when fifth of 13 in handicap hurdle (50/1) at Uttoxeter (23.3f, good to soft) 81 days ago. Out of the handicap but may be able to reach the frame in a weak contest. Didn't run badly on latest outing but is 4lb wrong here and has very modest strike-rate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Living's Boy An Co |
(7) (5/1 +58%)5/1(+58%) | (7) Living's Boy An Co 5/1, Off the mark in emphatic fashion over fences at Market Rasen last October but little to write home about since, including when returned to this sphere at Aintree in June. Won a chase in autumn 2022 but was not in the same form when last seen in spring. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barney Stinson |
(4) (6/1 -140%)6/1(-140%) | (4) Barney Stinson 6/1, Tumbled in the weights for this yard but was holding his own at this kind of level in summer 2022, running well to be second in a 6-runner handicap at Perth (23.9f, good, 7/1) when last seen. 16-month absence is a concern but he's a player if retaining all ability. Consistent in spring/summer 2022 but has fitness to prove after long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hostile Hotelier |
(1) (6/4 +0%)6/4(+0%) | (1) Hostile Hotelier 6/4, Justified strong support to make a successful switch to handicaps in 5-runner event at Hexham (16.2f, heavy) 11 days ago. Return to this trip rates as a positive and he should go close again from 5 lb higher mark. Improved to make winning handicap debut 11 days ago; should have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dance Thief |
(3) (11/1 -38%)11/1(-38%) | (3) Dance Thief 11/1, Point winner has showed modest form across 4 hurdles outings at Perth to date, though looked rather summed up by his mark when fifth of 9 in handicap (20.2f, good) 162 days ago. Still unexposed under rules but made just a respectable handicap debut in June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Boyneside |
(8) (20/1 +0%)20/1(+0%) | (8) Boyneside 20/1, Well held on sole bumper outing and hasn't fared any better hurdling. Plenty more required now handicapping. Well beaten at bug digit odds in a bumper and three maiden/novice hurdles; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gun Merchant |
(5) (22/1 -175%)22/1(-175%) | (5) Gun Merchant 22/1, Winner over fences at Newcastle in late-2021 but seen only sparingly since, brushed aside quickly when last of 6 at Perth when last out. Goes back hurdling after 17-month absence. Inconsistent and regressive 10yo; absent since disappointing chase run last summer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HOSTILE HOTELIER attracted plenty of market support ahead of his handicap debut and justified it with a determined display over 2m at Hexham. The way he stuck to his guns strongly suggested that this trip can help spark further improvement and that was his first run since May, which should also help bring him forward. Barney Stinson would be feared more were it not for his 16-month absence, so Dance Thief is put forward as the one for forecast backers.
A weak contest which should go the way of HOSTILE HOTELIER, who made a winning start in handicap company at Hexham last month and promises to find the extra couple of furlongs here to his benefit. Barney Stinson has been off the track for 16 months but would pose a serious threat if returning in top form, with the low-mileage Dance Thief a modest pick for third.
The most obvious answer is HOSTILE HOTELIER, who moves back up in trip after winning over 2m on his recent handicap debut.

Sea God |
(6) (1/5 +95%)1/5(+95%) | (6) Sea God 1/5, £26,000 3-y-o, £50,000 4-y-o, Sea Moon gelding. Half-brother to bumper/fairly useful 2½m hurdle winner Turn Turk. Dam unraced half-sister to top-class chaser (2½m-3¼m winner) Celestial Gold and high-class hurdler (stayed 3m) Fiveforthree. Successful sole start in British points (Mar 5). British point winner who has joined good Irish yard; firmly in calculations on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bogleyburn |
(2) (7/2 +86%)7/2(+86%) | (2) Bogleyburn 7/2, Shirocco gelding who made little appeal on paper and ran to only a modest level when ninth of 15 in bumper at Ayr (16f, good) last month. Easy enough to look elsewhere. 33-1, didn't run badly on last month's debut at Ayr but others have achieved more. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Malicash was a length and a position ahead of Al Kalila when third at Kelso, but they come up against some interesting newcomers to this discipline. Sea God and Tigga Time both won their sole starts between the flags and sold for 50,000 pounds and 30,000 pounds respectively. However, WALK ON QUEST changed hands for a six-figure sum after finishing runner-up in an Irish point-to-point, where a recent maiden hurdle winner was just behind him.
A few in with a squeak but AL KALILA took a step forward from his debut effort when fourth at Kelso just over 3 weeks ago and with further progress on the cards, he's taken to make it third time lucky at the expense of Walk On Quest, who finished runner-up on his sole start in Irish points but represents a yard going great guns. Malicash and Tigga Time can do battle for minor honours.
British maiden point winner SEA GOD has his first run for Irish trainer John McConnell and gets the nod ahead of Walk On Quest.
Ths is the racecard key.
