1st (8) (4.5/1 -50%) Rainbow Rain |
4.5/1(-50%) | (8) Rainbow Rain 4.5/1, Latest win at Thirsk in July. 7/4, creditable neck second of 18 to One of Our Own in handicap at Redcar (6f, good to firm) 12 days ago. Visor back on. Enters calculations. In midst of a decent spell of form (122); closely matched with One Of Our Own; thereabouts. |

2nd (1) (3/1 +45%) Dream Deal |
3/1(+45%) | (1) Dream Deal 3/1, 13/2, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Catterick (6f, good) 17 days ago, holding on gamely. Not taken lightly. Off the mark at Catterick (6f, good to soft) last month; effective on good to firm; chance. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (7/1 +30%) Merry Secret |
7/1(+30%) | (11) Merry Secret 7/1, Unreliable type. 7/1, respectable third of 9 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) 6 days ago. Not sure to be in the same form but shouldn't be dismissed in a weak race. Last win came on Tapeta at Newcastle (6f) in March; has related form with a few of these.. |

12/1(+57%) | (5) Dandys Gold 12/1, Seventh of 9 in handicap at Redcar (7f, good to firm, 10/1) 76 days ago. Needs to bounce back after a break. Placed at Thirsk (7f, heavy) in May; feasibly handicapped but without a win for 15 months.. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (14) (33/1 -65%) Muatadel |
33/1(-65%) | (14) Muatadel 33/1, Twenty six runs since last win in 2021. 25/1, seventh of 11 in handicap at Beverley (5f, good) 11 days ago. Without a win since October 2021, and has seemingly gone off the boil again latterly.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (11/1 +73%) Doon The Glen |

22/1(+12%) | (12) Secret Equity 22/1, Last of 11 in handicap (12/1) at Newcastle (5f). Off 8 months. Likely to need the run, so others make more appeal. Absent since trailing home last of 11 at Newcastle in January; fitness is taken on trust.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (2) (14/1 +13%) Lezardrieux |
14/1(+13%) | (2) Lezardrieux 14/1, Latest win at Catterick in May. 16½ lengths tenth of 11 to Dream Deal in handicap (12/1) at Catterick (6f, good) 17 days ago, worst of draw. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (16) (150/1 -20%) Helianthus |
150/1(-20%) | (16) Helianthus 150/1, Last of 8 in handicap (125/1) at Wetherby (7f, good to firm) 86 days ago. Hard to make any sort of case for. Eight-race maiden with essentially poor form; better to look elsewhere for the solution.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
One Of Our Own ran down RAINBOW RAIN late on when scoring over this trip at Redcar last month, but Tracy Waggott's inmate could reverse that form. The gelded son of Acclamation has been knocking on the door of late and, with more progression likely, could be worth siding with. Fellow last-time-out winner Dream Deal is another to consider off 4lb higher.
RAINBOW RAIN was denied by only a neck by One of Our Own at Redcar last time and, on better terms, he's fancied to reverse form with that rival with a visor refitted. Dream Deal is another one to consider but the majority are out of sorts.
With Tom Eaves back in the saddle, the consistent RAINBOW RAIN is taken to turn the tables on his Redcar conqueror One Of Our Own.

28/1(-12%) | (7) Secret Command 28/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 300/1, eleventh of 13 in maiden at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Cut little ice in three 6f maidens; switch to handicaps needs to spark major improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2.75/1 -10%) Sergeant Mayer |
2.75/1(-10%) | (3) Sergeant Mayer 2.75/1, Very good second of 9 in nursery at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) 8 days ago. Expected to be bang there from the same mark. Easily best effort when second in Musselburgh nursery latest; merits serious consideration. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (33/1 +0%) Bella Camina |
33/1(+0%) | (10) Bella Camina 33/1, Blinkered for first time, ninth of 10 in nursery at Windsor (6f, good) 24 days ago. Little in the way of worthwhile form. Has offered little all four runs, in blinkers for her nursery debut at Windsor 24 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (2.12/1 +29%) Space Ninja |
2.12/1(+29%) | (4) Space Ninja 2.12/1, Left his qualifying runs behind when a very good fourth of 13 in nursery at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 21 days ago. In good hands and there may well be more to come. Best run when 4th in Beverley nursery latest; must enter calculations off 2lb lower now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (10/1 -25%) Rock Lodge |
10/1(-25%) | (9) Rock Lodge 10/1, Sent off 50/ but settled better than has been the case when creditable fourth of 9 in nursery at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) 8 days ago, nearest finish. Big step forward when fourth in Musselburgh nursery eight days ago; he needs to back it up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (7.5/1 -50%) Lazareti |
7.5/1(-50%) | (5) Lazareti 7.5/1, Third of 5 in novice event at Pontefract (5f, good, 18/1) 18 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Good third of five in 5f Pontefract novice latest; needs considering on her nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (28/1 -100%) Naval Flight |
28/1(-100%) | (8) Naval Flight 28/1, 9/1, ninth of 13 in nursery at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 21 days ago. Others more persuasive on balance of her form. Arrives well below par in nurseries; plenty more is needed despite a falling mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (6/1 +0%) Zaphea |
6/1(+0%) | (6) Zaphea 6/1, Placed twice from similar marks but backward step when seventh of 9 in nursery at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) 8 days ago. Looks pretty exposed. In good form without winning until seventh at Musselburgh latest; sort to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (18/1 +10%) Dear Mary |
18/1(+10%) | (2) Dear Mary 18/1, Cheekpieces on for the first time when eighth of 11 in nursery at Catterick (6f, good) 17 days ago, though was drawn wide and she had to race wide. Cheekpieces on when below-par Catterick eighth 17 days ago; more is required here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (11/1 +21%) Fast Love |
11/1(+21%) | (1) Fast Love 11/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 7/1, tenth of 11 in nursery at Leicester (7f, good to firm) 25 days ago. Down in trip/class but needs to bounce back. Has failed to progress since sent into handicaps; she needs to get back on track. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Only denied by three-quarters of a length over this trip at Musselburgh last month, SERGEANT MAYER gets the nod in a contest lacking depth. The gelded son of Soldier's Call kept on well on that occasion and likely has more to offer, so he is taken to get the better of Lazareti, who makes her handicap debut following a fair run for third at Pontefract most recently. Space Ninja looks best of the rest.
SERGEANT MAYER was nicely clear of the rest when runner-up at Musselburgh last week and from the same mark he's the most persuasive option. Space Ninja also arrives on the back of a personal best and he heads the opposition, with Rock Lodge another to consider.
This looks a good opportunity for SERGEANT MAYER, who can race off the same mark as when an excellent recent Musseburgh nursery second

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4.5/1 +50%) Wee Fat Mac |
4.5/1(+50%) | (7) Wee Fat Mac 4.5/1, Latest win at Ayr in August. 3 lengths fourth of 7 to Cavalier Approach in handicap (9/2) at Hamilton (5f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Won at Ayr last month and fair efforts the next twice; might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (6.5/1 +54%) Canaria Prince |
6.5/1(+54%) | (12) Canaria Prince 6.5/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Last of 10 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) 9 days ago. Engaged 5.30 Ripon Tuesday. On a reduced mark but hasn't shone lately; sixth of 14 at Ripon on Tuesday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (12/1 -20%) Dark Crusade |
12/1(-20%) | (3) Dark Crusade 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 11/4, third of 5 in handicap at Catterick (5f, good to firm) on reappearance 89 days ago. Returns to action with his yard among the winners. Less exposed than a lot of these and one to note in the betting. Reappeared with encouraging run at Catterick and this stiffer track could be a positive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (25/1 +38%) He's An Angel |
25/1(+38%) | (8) He's An Angel 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Off 13 months, ninth of 11 in handicap at Catterick (6f, good, 80/1) 17 days ago. Cheekpieces on now. Hard to make a case for. Very lightly raced; promising debut over C&D last June but has failed to shine since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (2/1 +20%) Cavalier Approach |
2/1(+20%) | (1) Cavalier Approach 2/1, First run since leaving Ruth Carr when winning 7-runner handicap at Hamilton (5f, good to soft, 10/3) 13 days ago, keeping on well. Could easily have more to offer for his new yard. Won on recent stable debut at Hamilton and could have more to offer for the yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (11/1 -47%) Birdie Bowers |
11/1(-47%) | (11) Birdie Bowers 11/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Good second of 11 in handicap at Beverley (5f, good, 13/2) 11 days ago. Merits consideration. Inconsistent but runner-up on three of his last five starts and could be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (6.5/1 +7%) Triple Jaye |
6.5/1(+7%) | (4) Triple Jaye 6.5/1, Fourth of 9 in handicap (10/1) at Nottingham (5f, good to soft) 23 days ago, possibly deserving of extra credit for racing away from where the main action unfolded. Step back in the right direction when fourth at Nottingham and she's not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (8.5/1 -21%) Sixcor |
8.5/1(-21%) | (5) Sixcor 8.5/1, Won 10-runner handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) 9 days ago, getting on top towards the finish. 5 lb penalty demands more of him. Won at Musselburgh last Tuesday and he's entitled to respect under a 5lb penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (12/1 -41%) One Last Hug |
12/1(-41%) | (6) One Last Hug 12/1, Three wins from 11 runs this year, the latest at Ayr in July. 7/1, seventh of 10 in handicap at Ayr (6f, good) 26 days ago. Can make presence felt under Fanning. His wins have come at Ayr but three of them have been this year; dangerous to dismiss. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BIRDIE BOWERS took a big step forward when filling the runner-up spot over this trip at Beverley most recently and he is fancied to go one better off a 1lb raised mark. Sixcor kept on well to score on his latest outing and is feared most under a 5lb penalty, while Cavalier Approach is another recent winner not to be taken lightly off 5lb higher.
Ed Bethell has quickly found the key to CAVALIER APPROACH who can make light of a 5 lb rise with further progress on the cards for his new stable. Joe Fanning has a very good record on One Last Hug this year and Jim Goldie's 8-y-o can provide the chief threat ahead of last-time-out Beverley second Birdie Bowers.
Topweight CAVALIER APPROACH made a winning start for Ed Bethell at Hamilton a fortnight ago and is taken to make it 2-2 for the yard.

1.25/1(+23%) | (5) Victory Shout 1.25/1, Left debut run well behind when fourth of 8 in novice event (22/1) at Haydock (8f, good to firm) 27 days ago. Sets the bar pretty high. Frankel colt; posted a good fourth in 1m Haydock novice latest; holds solid form claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3.5/1 -27%) Silent Move |
3.5/1(-27%) | (1) Silent Move 3.5/1, Ran in a warm race on debut and quickened clear to land 8-runner novice event at Thirsk (7f, good to soft, 6/5) 20 days ago. Will go on improving. Ready winner of 7f Thirsk novice; more to offer; very much in the mix despite 7lb penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/1 -13%) Love Safari |
9/1(-13%) | (4) Love Safari 9/1, Foaled March 15. 57,000 gns yearling, Galileo colt. Brother to 2-y-o 8.6f-1¼m winner Persia and 11.5f/1½m winner Visage, both useful. Dam, 1m winner who stayed 1½m. Brother to 1m2f winner Persia (RPR 102); a much-respected Galileo newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (2/1 +0%) Apiarist |
2/1(+0%) | (3) Apiarist 2/1, Second of 9 in novice event at Thirsk (7f, good to soft, 11/8) 20 days ago, well positioned. Likely to improve and he's a big player. Has shaped well both runs, clear Thirsk second latest; capable of better still; big shout. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (200/1 -33%) Apache Angel |
200/1(-33%) | (2) Apache Angel 200/1, 80/1, last of 7 in maiden at Catterick (7f, good) on debut 30 days ago. Last in maiden at Catterick on his debut; needs to take a big step forward. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SILENT MOVE showed marked improvement from first to second start when an easy winner at Thirsk last time out, and Richard Fahey's charge is taken to follow up under a 7lb penalty. He is narrowly preferred to Apiarist, who was narrowly denied at the same track last month and should be open to further improvement. A full-brother to the Group-placed Persia, newcomer Love Safari could also have a say in proceedings.
VICTORY SHOUT left his debut form well behind when fourth in a fairly useful novice at Haydock last month and a repeat of that level may well suffice. Apiarist and Thirsk-winner Silent Move will ensure the selection doesn't have it all his own way.

2nd (1) (40/1 -21%) Loom Large |
40/1(-21%) | (1) Loom Large 40/1, Landed a 10f Naas handicap for Andrew Oliver but hard to glean any positives from his exploits for present stable, last of 5 equipped with tongue tie (retained here) in handicap at Ripon (10.9f, good, 10/1) 10 days ago. Can only be watched. Won at Naas (1m2f) in August 2022; has struggled since joining this trainer (0-4).. |

3rd (10) (11/1 +21%) Cosa Sara |
11/1(+21%) | (10) Cosa Sara 11/1, 4½ lengths eighth of 11 to Chinese Spirit in handicap (11/1) at Musselburgh (8f, good to firm) 8 days ago, keeping on when no room final 1f. Operating from last winning mark but others appeal a little more for win purposes. Won at Ayr (1m; under Mark Winn) in early May; low-key over duration of last four starts.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (14/1 +0%) Jewel Of Kabeir |
14/1(+0%) | (7) Jewel Of Kabeir 14/1, 16/1, creditable fourth of 13 in handicap at Ripon (9.8f, good) 10 days ago, suited by strong pace. Back down in trip. Maiden (0-11); has knocked at the door since fitted with a visor; capable of having a say.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (3.5/1 +36%) Shahnaz |
3.5/1(+36%) | (4) Shahnaz 3.5/1, C&D winner who dispelled a lesser effort when creditable second of 8 in handicap at this C&D (good) 7 days ago, keeping on well and collared post. In the mix with a repeat despite widest draw of all. Caught close home over C&D (good) last week; holds an obvious chance from the same mark.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (7.5/1 +17%) Willing To Please |
7.5/1(+17%) | (12) Willing To Please 7.5/1, C&D winner. Sixteen runs since last win in 2022. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, bit below form sixth of 11 in handicap (9/2) at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) 22 days ago. Down to a handy mark if putting it all together. Dual C&D winner (from marks in the mid 50s); hasn't been quite so sharp in recent times.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (9/1 +36%) Shifter |
9/1(+36%) | (5) Shifter 9/1, Left reappearance/stable debut effort well behind when edging a close finish at Ayr (1m) last month. Not ideally served by drop back to 7f at Musselburgh latest and this slightly longer trip will suit on this stiffer track. Back to winning ways at Ayr (1m; from 4lb lower) penultimate; behind Merricourt since.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (11/1 +39%) Gracelands Girl |
11/1(+39%) | (2) Gracelands Girl 11/1, Fair filly who ran creditably when third at Newcastle (7f) back in February but seen only twice since, well held eleventh on back of 4 months off at Catterick (7f) 17 days ago. Eased further 2 lb if that run has brought her on. Frustrating filly (placed numerous times as a 3yo); the handicapper has given her a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (8.5/1 -21%) Merricourt |
8.5/1(-21%) | (3) Merricourt 8.5/1, Seventeen runs since last win in 2022. Creditable fourth of 11 in handicap at Musselburgh (7.2f, good to firm, 9/1) 8 days ago, pushed along final 1f and keeping on. Not out of things from this mark. No win since April 2022; slipped to a workable mark, running consistently at Musselburgh.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (20/1 -150%) Elettaria |
20/1(-150%) | (11) Elettaria 20/1, 15/2, career best when winning 10-runner handicap at this course (6.9f, good to firm) 15 days ago, suited by a well-run race on this stiff track. This rates tougher, however. Successful over 7f here (good to firm) last month; 4lb higher but could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (7/1 -8%) Royal Prospect |
7/1(-8%) | (8) Royal Prospect 7/1, C&D winner. Good fifth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 12/1) 23 days ago, unlucky not to finish much closer having been snatched up approaching final 1f. On a very handy mark if backing that up here. Dual C&D winner; caught the eye when luckless fifth (form franked) at Newcastle last time.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (13) (12/1 +25%) Red Command |
12/1(+25%) | (13) Red Command 12/1, 7/1, eleventh of 13 in minor event at Catterick (7f, good) 30 days ago, going off too hard. Cheekpieces on 1st time. 12-race maiden; precious few positives to take from last two efforts; cheekpieces go on.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Denied by a narrow margin over C&D last time out, SHAHNAZ deserves a change in luck and she can claim a first victory since August 2022 here. Gemma Tutty's charge is now 11lb lower than her last winning mark and should have too much for the likes of Merricourt, and Yeeeaah, who has been placed on three of his last four starts. Others to note include Gracelands Girl, Royal Prospect and Willing To Please.
This looks likely to be run at a good pace which could well play to the strengths of MERRICOURT. He's been shaping up respectably in recent outings and, operating on a workable mark, he could well be ready to strike for his in-form yard. Yeeeaah and Royal Prospect head up the dangers, with Shahnaz another who can't be discounted from her much-reduced mark.
The smooth-travelling ROYAL PROSPECT (nap) was an eyecatcher at Newcastle last time, so earns the vote at a track which suits.

IMPERIAL QUARTER made a pleasing start to her career when beaten just over two lengths over 1m at Newmarket and this looks like a good opportunity to get her head in front. Roger Varian's charge shaped as if this extra yardage should suit on that occasion and she could be hard to beat. The two debutants Man Of Monaco and Wadacre Maximus can also feature.
IMPERIAL QUARTER showed more than enough on debut to think she can win what looks a weak race unless one of the Johnston-trained newcomers is ready to go. Kintaro is quite closely matched with the selection in form terms but lacks her potential.
Dubawi filly IMPERIAL QUARTER shaped well when a running-on debut Newmarket fifth (form has been franked) and looks the way to go

MARBUZET has racked up a sequence of placed efforts of late and he appears sure to run his race once again. The four-year-old is off the same mark as his third over 2m at Ripon last time and this drop in trip looks to be a positive. Oh So Chic also commands respect after a good second over 2m at Catterick last month, but she needs to defy a 1lb rise in the ratings, while The Navigator could be on a dangerous mark.
THE NAVIGATOR had little chance from his position well off the pace at Catterick last time and might be worth chancing from his reduced mark at a track which has often brought the best out of him on the Flat. The reliable Marbuzet should figure prominently again, while John Berry's Merrijig is less exposed than a lot of these and didn't fare too badly on last month's Newmarket handicap debut.
A few with chances but the vote goes to Tim Easterby's MARBUZET who is proving very reliable and can gain a deserved first win of 2023
Ths is the racecard key.
