1st (6) (7/2 +42%) Birkie Boy |
7/2(+42%) | (6) Birkie Boy 7/2, Seventh of 9 in nursery at Chelmsford City (7f, 9/2) 10 days ago. Placed twice this year and could figure. Can put a line through latest run; has shown more than most and could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (6/1 -20%) Clear Justice |
6/1(-20%) | (8) Clear Justice 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 14/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, sixth of 11 in nursery at Lingfield (7f, AW) 24 days ago. Was heavily backed when also disappointing on previous start (handicap debut). Well held in all his runs including two handicaps over 7f on the AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/1 -122%) Head's Gone Pal |
10/1(-122%) | (7) Head's Gone Pal 10/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, fourth of 9 in nursery at Chelmsford City (7f, 40/1) 10 days ago. Perhaps flattered last time but that's still one of the best pieces of form on offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (28/1 -75%) Tres Chic |
28/1(-75%) | (5) Tres Chic 28/1, Thrice-raced maiden, little sign of ability. 250/1, twelfth of 13 in minor event at Kempton (7f) 18 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Beaten in the region of 15l in her three qualifying runs, posting RPRs in the 30s. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/2 +50%) Search |
9/2(+50%) | (2) Search 9/2, Eighth of 9 in nursery at Chelmsford City (7f, 9/1) 10 days ago. The only winner in the field (at this track over 6f) so one of the more likely types. Hasn't progressed from winning a maiden here and doesn't look the easiest of rides. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (8/1 -33%) Miss Dubai |
8/1(-33%) | (4) Miss Dubai 8/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 66/1, eighth of 10 in maiden at Bath (8f, good) 24 days ago. Could do better now handicapping at a very low starting point. Nothing in her three runs to get excited about and goes handicapping with much to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (9/1 +10%) Lady Showcasing |
9/1(+10%) | (1) Lady Showcasing 9/1, Little solid form. Tenth of 11 in nursery (66/1) at Kempton (7f) 22 days ago. Went close in 5f AW maiden in May but has lost her way since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (7/2 -27%) Eyes Closed |
7/2(-27%) | (3) Eyes Closed 7/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Tongue strap on for 1st time, fifth of 12 in nursery (22/1) at Chelmsford City (6f) 10 days ago, best work finish. One to consider upped to 7f. Showed enough at Chelmsford to believe this longer trip might bring her on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (12/1 +14%) Tea Leaf Ted |
12/1(+14%) | (9) Tea Leaf Ted 12/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Off 99 days. Significantly up in trip. Blinkered for 1st time. Makes handicap debut. Work to do. Basement mark for handicap debut looks warranted; now gelded and blinkered. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
The step up in trip can work the oracle for EYES CLOSED on her nursery debut after a relatively promising effort over shorter at Chelmsford last month. Brandon Wilkie's 7lb claim is a major plus and she is preferred to six-race maiden Head's Gone Pal and Birkie Boy, who has finished in the first three on both starts here and deserves a change in luck.
A very low-grade nursery that could go to EYES CLOSED, who was doing her best work at the finish at Chelmsford recently and will be suited by this longer trip. Miss Dubai and Search, the only previous winner in the field (and at this track, too), are also considered.
The suggestion is BIRKIE BOY who scored high marks for consistency prior to an excusable run last time when behind Head's Gone Pal.

1st (2) (4/7 +72%) Dianara |
4/7(+72%) | (2) Dianara 4/7, Ran to fair level at Deauville on debut, before seeming unsuited by drop in trip when fourth of 11 in minor event (10/3) at Newcastle (6f) 3 weeks ago. Not taken lightly returned to this longer distance. Promising first run over 7f in France; not beaten far dropped to 6f at Newcastle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 -25%) Fernden Wells |
5/1(-25%) | (3) Fernden Wells 5/1, Left debut effort well behind when second of 10 in maiden at Lingfield (7f, AW, 15/2) 41 days ago. Can make her presence felt with further progress to come. Got outpaced before keeping on to edge out Floridian for second at Lingfield. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/1 -8%) Floridian |
7/1(-8%) | (5) Floridian 7/1, Made more impact than first time up when third of 10 in maiden (33/1) at Lingfield (7f, AW) 41 days ago. Needs to take another step forward. Showed plenty more at Lingfield and closely matched with Fernden Wells. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (6/1 +25%) Miss Galiway |
6/1(+25%) | (4) Miss Galiway 6/1, Ran to similar level as on debut when third of 6 in minor event at Beverley (8.4f, heavy, 5/2) 2 weeks ago. Improvement required as she drops back down in trip. Beaten 11l when third at Beverley and needs to step up on that form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This can go the way of DIANARA, who had shown up well on her debut in a valuable maiden at Deauville before running with plenty of credit at Newcastle last time out. The daughter of Goken should have too much for Fernden Wells, who had Floridian (third) narrowly behind when runner-up at Lingfield in August. Willy Campbell posted a career-best effort when not beaten far at Kempton last month and he cannot be ruled out either.
WILLY CAMPBELL left his previous efforts well behind when third at Kempton 13 days ago, closing all the way to the line, and he can take another step forward to get off the mark. Dianara has run to a fair level when making the frame on both of her starts so far and is respected back up in trip, with Fernden Wells the pick of the remainder.
This can go the way of DIANARA who ran well over 6f last time and yet it was over this trip when shaping so well in France.

1st (7) (12/1 +25%) Temur Khan |
12/1(+25%) | (7) Temur Khan 12/1, 3-time C&D winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Fifth of 8 in handicap (12/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 29 days ago. Out of sorts. Well handicapped but hard to trust after finishing tailed off on his last three runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/2 +82%) Alodia |
9/2(+82%) | (8) Alodia 9/2, Creditable sixth of 11 in handicap at Kempton (16f, 28/1) 32 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Back down in trip. Others have achieved more. Very quiet of late in handicaps and a classified race (1m2f-2m). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (5/2 +29%) Broad Appeal |
5/2(+29%) | (5) Broad Appeal 5/2, Nineteen runs since last win in 2020. 5/1, good second of 12 in handicap at Bath (11.6f, good) 24 days ago. Merits consideration. Without a win since the summer of 2020 but comes here in decent form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/4 +45%) Cloudy Rose |
11/4(+45%) | (3) Cloudy Rose 11/4, C&D winner. 3 wins from 8 runs this year. Latest win here in June. 5/1, fourth of 5 in handicap at this C&D (heavy) 22 days ago. One to consider. C&D winner on a good mark but her form just appears to have cooled off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (12/1 +45%) Lady Clemmie |
12/1(+45%) | (9) Lady Clemmie 12/1, Respectable sixth of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f, 18/1) 19 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Unplaced so far and hard to know where the requisite improvement is coming from. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (2) (16/5 +9%) Control |
16/5(+9%) | (2) Control 16/5, Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs. Creditable second of 8 in handicap (15/8) at this C&D (good to soft) 29 days ago, again not convincing under pressure as she hung right and carried head awkwardly. An exposed maiden but runner-up over 1m2f and 1m4f here the last twice. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ASENSE may not have won here in four attempts, but Gary Moore's charge is in the form of her life at present and, having won with a bit to spare at Bath last week, there is every chance of her defying a 5lb penally to bring up the four-timer. She goes on any ground and it may be that recent Bath second Broad Appeal gives her the most to think about, despite the latter being winless since June 2020. Control and course specialist Temur Khan can also have a say.
ASENSE came clear in good style under Anna Gibson at Bath last week and can nab the 4-timer. Broad Appeal is feared most ahead of Cloudy Rose.
A low-grade handicap. John Butler's CONTROL should again be competitive, as has been the case here of late.

1st (6) (7/4 +56%) Cryptos Dream |
7/4(+56%) | (6) Cryptos Dream 7/4, C&D winner. Latest win here in August. Below form seventh of 13 in handicap at Ripon (9.8f, good, 9/4) 43 days ago, racing closer to pace than ideal. Respected back here. Won easily over C&D and went off too fast when seventh at Ripon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (7/2 -5%) Chinthurst |
7/2(-5%) | (7) Chinthurst 7/2, Creditable third of 8 in handicap (5/2) at Epsom (12f, good to firm) 26 days ago, sticking to task. This is weaker and he's one to consider down in trip. Was third at Epsom last time despite not looking at ease on the track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/1 -80%) Habanero Star |
9/1(-80%) | (2) Habanero Star 9/1, Course winner. Latest win at Yarmouth in August. Respectable third of 11 in handicap at this C&D (heavy, well-backed 4/1) 22 days ago. Goes well here and one to consider. Solid record at this track; seems in decent form and unlikely to be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (80/1 -100%) Many Words |
80/1(-100%) | (8) Many Words 80/1, Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs. Last of 7 in handicap at Bath (11.6f, firm, 40/1) 34 days ago, missing break. Tongue strap on 1st time, cheekpieces on 1st time. 10l behind Cryptos Dream here two runs ago and then finished last at Bath. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (13/2 +46%) Storm Valley |
13/2(+46%) | (3) Storm Valley 13/2, Eighth of 12 in handicap (5/1) at Kempton (11f) 22 days ago. Now 0-9 and beginning to frustrate; well below her best the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (10/3 -21%) Silver Bubble |
10/3(-21%) | (4) Silver Bubble 10/3, 4-time course winner. Ninth of 14 in handicap (12/1) at Kempton (12f) 18 days ago, not much room. Good run there before that and can go well back in trip having won a division of this last season under Saffie Osborne. Won a division of this 12 months ago and she's handicapped to go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (20/1 -43%) Girl Inthe Picture |
20/1(-43%) | (1) Girl Inthe Picture 20/1, Course winner. Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Below form fourth of 8 in handicap at Bath (8f, good, 12/1) 40 days ago. Back up in trip. Cheekpieces back on. Again well below her best despite running a little better at Bath most recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (28/1 -367%) James Bradley |
28/1(-367%) | (9) James Bradley 28/1, 13/2, very good second of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f) 19 days ago. Chance he's better on AW. Has done most of his racing on the AW and this is only his third run on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (66/1 -65%) Jackie Diamond |
66/1(-65%) | (5) Jackie Diamond 66/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 40/1, ninth of 10 in handicap at Bath (8f, good) 83 days ago. Back up in trip. Has had a wind op. Must improve. Regressive profile but has undergone wind surgery during her absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
CRYPTOS DREAM was a beaten favourite on her latest start under a 5lb penalty at Ripon when attempting to back up a C&D success only a week earlier. Given enough time to recover from that display, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the four-year-old bounce back today. Chinthurst is expected to benefit from a drop in trip after his third at Epsom, while the shortlist is completed by Habanero Star and James Bradley.
SILVER BUBBLE took a division of this last season and she could be ready to strike off a reduced mark having run well at Kempton a couple of starts back. Habanero Star and Cryptos Dream are feared.
The filly CRYPTOS DREAM perhaps went off a bit too hot last time at Ripon and was a convincing winner here the time before.

11/2(+21%) | (10) Volcanology 11/2, Seemed to know her job when fifth of 7 in maiden (4/1) at Yarmouth (8f, soft) on debut 19 days ago. Improvement required. Prominent to a point before fading out of contention and finishing fifth at Yarmouth. |

4/5(+33%) | (5) Prometeo 4/5, Matched debut form when second of 8 in 9.1f maiden at Yarmouth (good to soft) 21 days ago. Remains capable of better. His Yarmouth second sets the standard and he should improve some more. |

12/1(+25%) | (3) Mysterious Soul 12/1, Twice-raced colt. 9/2, failed to progress from debut when fifth of 6 in maiden at Chelmsford City (8f) 63 days ago. RPRs in the 50s when finishing fifth in races at Lingfield (6f) and Chelmsford (1m). |

11/4(+8%) | (6) Rogue King 11/4, Foaled May 13. €16,000 2-y-o, Sea The Stars colt. Half-brother to useful 1m-1¼m winner Evident Beauty. Dam unraced half-sister to high-class winner up to 1½m The Fugue. Interesting newcomer. 16,000euros 2yo; third foal; half-brother to 1m/1m2f winner Evident Beauty (RPR 99). |

5th (4) (40/1 +0%) Our Papa Smurf |
40/1(+0%) | (4) Our Papa Smurf 40/1, Twice-raced gelding. Last of 11 in minor event (50/1) at Ascot (6f, good to firm) 32 days ago. Significantly up in trip. First two races have been at Sandown (7f) and Ascot (6f) but was pretty much tailed off. |

Not really bred for this far but worth a market check all the same. 20,000euros yearling; third foal; half-brother to Polish 1m/1m2f winner Ten Coins. |

22/1(-83%) | (9) Midnight Margarita 22/1, 22/1, showed nothing when tenth of 14 in maiden at Nottingham (6.1f, good) on debut. Off 103 days. Significantly up in trip. Hooded for 1st time. 22-1 when tenth of 14 on her Nottingham debut (6f); now goes in a hood. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
PROMETEO sets the form standard based on his two efforts to date, finishing third at Kempton before filling the runner-up spot at Yarmouth and he travelled strongly throughout that latter contest over a furlong further. The return to a mile can see him shed the maiden tag in a contest that lacks depth on paper. Rogue King comes from the family of The Fugue and is an interesting newcomer, while Volcanology is also noted.
An ordinary-looking maiden which can go to PROMETEO, who didn't do a lot wrong when edged out late on at Yarmouth 3 weeks ago and remains capable of better. Rogue King and Belarmindar are a couple of newcomers to keep a close eye on in the betting.
Although it was disappointing that PROMETEO couldn't get the job done at Yarmouth after travelling much the best, he's clearly useful.

5/2(+58%) | (4) Harry The Haggler 5/2, Career best when winning 7-runner maiden (evens) at this C&D (heavy) 22 days ago. Solid in handicaps before that and should be in the mix again. Won a poor maiden here last time; has been competitive in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (18/1 -13%) Frequent Flyer |
18/1(-13%) | (2) Frequent Flyer 18/1, Fair at his best for Andrew Balding. 33/1, respectable seventh of 15 at Doncaster (8f, good) 23 days ago. Has fallen in the weights. 33-1 and only mid-division on stable debut in the Legends Race at Doncaster. |

11th (9) (50/1 -213%) Larrsen |
50/1(-213%) | (9) Larrsen 50/1, Winner at Bath in May. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, below form sixth of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW, 12/1) 34 days ago. Something to find on form. His win over 1m at Bath in May (good to soft) stands out like a sore thumb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
This is competitive for the grade, with the likes of Style Of Life (winner), a lightly-raced three-year-old, and old stager, Voltaic (third), both high on the shortlist after their encounter at Wolverhampton 15 days ago. Harry The Haggler also enters calculations back in a handicap after winning a maiden here last month. However, MOONDIAL is worth another try over this trip and, with her recent form working out well, the Kubler's filly edges the vote.
STYLE OF LIFE made all in good style on her recent handicap debut at Wolverhampton and is likely to improve again so she could be hard to stop. C&D winner Harry The Haggler and Moondial are also big players.
Jim Boyle's BUY THE DIP beat all bar a well-handicapped rival last time and Luke Catton gets to claim 5lb this time.

7th (3) (7/4 +36%) Cuban Grey |
7/4(+36%) | (3) Cuban Grey 7/4, First run since leaving Robert Cowell, back to form when winning 7-runner handicap (3/1) at this C&D (heavy) 22 days ago. Remains on a workable mark so he merits consideration. Well backed when winning over C&D on recent stable debut; still fairly treated up 5lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Veteran sprinter BOOM THE GROOM retains his enthusiasm and, having won two of his last three starts in gritty fashion, he could well fight his way to further success. A close third on the all-weather last time, the versatile 12-year-old won over the 6f trip here off this mark last summer and has little to fear dropping in trip/reverting to turf. Recent course winners Cuban Grey and Thank The Lord are feared, while the well-handicapped Street Parade cannot be ruled out.
BOOM THE GROOM has returned to form of late, running well when third at Chelmsford in his bid for a hat-trick last time, so he is taken to quickly resume winning ways. He can see off the challenge of Cuban Grey, who made a successful stable debut at this C&D on his latest outing, with Atty's Edge completing the shortlist.
Having made the perfect start for his new connections CUBAN GREY (nap) is taken to defy his 5lb rise in the weights.
Ths is the racecard key.
