1st (2) (6/1 +20%) Butler's Brief |
6/1(+20%) | (2) Butler's Brief 6/1, C&D winner who got back on track when third of 8 in handicap hurdle at Warwick (26f, good) 35 days ago. Can go well again off the same mark. Back to form when third at Warwick but he's become incredibly hard to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (14/1 -27%) Kiss My Face |
14/1(-27%) | (7) Kiss My Face 14/1, Resumed winning ways at Worcester in July and recorded a creditable fifth of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) 52 days ago. Much respected back in this sphere. Went up 10lb for his Worcester win in July and others might be better treated. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 +50%) Schalke |
5/1(+50%) | (4) Schalke 5/1, Winner at Kelso in December 2022 but ended last season well below par for Rebecca Menzies. Handily weighted though if this yard switch sparks a resurgence. Shown nothing in three runs this year after wind surgery; has changed yards. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (7/1 +61%) Jalisco Star |
7/1(+61%) | (8) Jalisco Star 7/1, C&D winner in March but off since pulled up in handicap hurdle at Haydock (24.3f, good to soft, 8/1) 7 months ago. Has since had a wind op so can't be discounted. Easy winner here in March and following defeat was only a week later; had wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (4/1 +38%) Pipers Cross |
4/1(+38%) | (9) Pipers Cross 4/1, Dual winner around 3m in the spring for Robbie Llewellyn. This consistent sort enters calculations on her yard debut/seasonal return. Admirably consistent in seven handicaps (2m4f-3m) for Robbie Llewellyn; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (7/2 -5%) It's Maisy |
7/2(-5%) | (10) It's Maisy 7/2, A three-time winner last term, signing off with victory at Uttoxeter (23.3f, heavy) in April. Off 6 months but she's still one to consider on her reappearance. Hasn't looked back since stepping up to this sort of trip, winning three of her last five. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (12/1 -71%) Milan Ac |
12/1(-71%) | (1) Milan Ac 12/1, Easily best effort when second of 14 in novice hurdle at Ffos Las (20f, good, 25/1) 167 days ago. Goes into handicaps now but others look better treated at these weights. Difficult to know what to make of this initial mark but he has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (7/1 -40%) Face D'music |
7/1(-40%) | (3) Face D'music 7/1, Got off the mark at Hereford in May but unseated rider 5th in handicap chase (4/1) at Kempton (24f, good to soft) on debut over fences 9 days ago. Quickly back over hurdles. Won a staying handicap at Hereford before unseating mid-race on last week's chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (14/1 +22%) Aazza |
14/1(+22%) | (11) Aazza 14/1, Winless last term and only seventh of 8 in handicap hurdle at Kelso (25.8f, soft) 156 days ago on her final run for Rose Dobbin. Others appeal more. Last season was disappointing and she makes trainer debut with much to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (9/1 +36%) Paricolor |
9/1(+36%) | (5) Paricolor 9/1, C&D winner but a below-par fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (23.9f, good, 12/1) 167 days ago. Cheekpieces back on with more needed. Without a win since late 2021 and was struggling for form when last seen. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MILAN AC posted his best effort to date when runner-up at Ffos Las in May and he enters handicaps off what looks a workable mark. The six-year-old should appreciate this stiffer test of stamina and a breakthrough victory could be on the cards. The progressive It's Maisy scored four times over hurdles last season and she isn't taken lightly on her return to action. Stable debutant Schalke lurks on an attractive mark and market support would be interesting.
This is wide open so at the likely odds it is worth siding with SCHALKE to capitalise on an attractive mark now starting out with Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero. Pipers Cross and Kiss My Face are also worthy of consideration. Face d'Music completes the shortlist.
An open race. PIPERS CROSS compiled a solid profile in handicaps for her previous yard and can continue the good work.

1st (1) (9/4 -20%) Navajo Indy |
9/4(-20%) | (1) Navajo Indy 9/4, Fairly useful bumper winner who showed plenty when runner-up first 2 outings over hurdles. Failed to capitalise on what had looked a very good opportunity at Fontwell in February but made no mistake at Wincanton when last seen in April. Should be in the mix under a penalty on reappearance. Newbury bumper winner who has run well in all four hurdles, winning the latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (3/1 +14%) Gamesters Guy |
3/1(+14%) | (6) Gamesters Guy 3/1, Made the ideal start with his stable going well when landing an 8-runner bumper at Uttoxeter and also ran out a ready winner at Carlisle in April. Pretty useful hurdles prospect so demands serious respect. Won two of his three bumpers, posting a good RPR last time; has only raced in the mud. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (66/1 -230%) Atlantic Lad |
66/1(-230%) | (13) Atlantic Lad 66/1, £10,000 4-y-o, third foal, half-brother to fair 17f hurdle winner Looking For Larry (by Telescope). Dam placed in points. Well-held second on second of 2 outings in points (May 22). Beaten some 20l in his second British point and looks the stable second string here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (2/1 +33%) Not Now Nathaniel |
2/1(+33%) | (2) Not Now Nathaniel 2/1, Debut bumper winner who also made a successful start over hurdles (fitted with a hood) in 4-runner novice at Aintree in May. Looked slightly more straightforward when following up over C&D and didn't do a lot wrong under a penalty when second at Cartmel in June. Came up short in her hat-trick bid at Cartmel but the winner has gone on to better things. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (11/1 -22%) Let's Sail Away |
11/1(-22%) | (8) Let's Sail Away 11/1, Successful on his sole outing in points but has displayed more than his share of temperament over hurdles. Looked as though he was asking for further when fourth in a 2m maiden at Uttoxeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (22/1 +12%) Malfoy Manor |
22/1(+12%) | (9) Malfoy Manor 22/1, €95,000 3-y-o, £100,000 4-y-o, Blue Bresil gelding. Brother to fair hurdler Tilly Toughnut. Dam, lightly raced in bumpers/over hurdles, half-sister to winning hurdler/top-class chaser (stayed 29f) Sir Rembrandt. Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish point but too free on bumper debut in March. Bought for £100,000 after point second; dropped away in his bumper but can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (100/1 -100%) Brockarno |
100/1(-100%) | (4) Brockarno 100/1, Showed promise in a bumper on his debut in February 2023 but has failed to repeat that subsequently, not given a hard time once chance of winning had gone here in May. Third to the smart Valgrand here last time but questionable what he achieved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (150/1 -50%) Fond Farewell |
150/1(-50%) | (5) Fond Farewell 150/1, Modest handicapper at best on Flat (should stay 2m), down the field both starts for current yard. Hurdles debut was hardly brimming with promise. It was low-grade stuff on the Flat and he was 150-1 when tailed off on hurdle debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (14/1 +0%) Land Of Moon |
14/1(+0%) | (7) Land Of Moon 14/1, Backed and shaped encouragingly first time up under a ride of exaggerated patience in Lingfield AW bumper in December. Not in the same form twice since on turf and now goes hurdling on the back of a breathing operation. Goes hurdling on the back of wind surgery and this 5yo remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (22/1 -10%) Maxiboy Dagrostis |
22/1(-10%) | (10) Maxiboy Dagrostis 22/1, Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/smart chaser Itchy Feet (2m-25f winner, by Cima de Triomphe) and French chaser Dakota d'Agrostis (19f winner, by Libourne). Dam unraced. Runner-up on second of 2 starts in points (May 6). Remote third in his first British point but wasn't beaten far in the next one. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (66/1 -32%) Rockvale |
66/1(-32%) | (11) Rockvale 66/1, €15,000 3-y-o, El Salvador gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful chaser Ingenious Stroke and 2½m chase winner Fit For Fifty. Dam (h86), maiden hurdler, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (2m-3m winner) World Wide Web. Placed all 3 starts in Irish points but may need more time under Rules. Didn't run at all badly for a 200-1 chance at Warwick (beaten 12l in a 2m novice). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (18/1 -13%) Bennettshill |
18/1(-13%) | (3) Bennettshill 18/1, Third foal, dam, unraced, closely related to fairly useful hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 2¾m) Changing Times. Off mark in Irish points at second attempt (May 2023) but absent since. It wasn't a strong Irish point that he won and that was back in May 2023. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (125/1 -25%) Walk In The Valley |
125/1(-25%) | (12) Walk In The Valley 125/1, £6,000 4-y-o, Walk In The Park gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to very smart hurdler/useful chaser (stayed 29f) Pettifour. Not disgraced both starts in points in spring 2023 but only limited short-term promise on hurdles debut. 100-1 for hurdling debut at Hexham and didn't show a lot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (200/1 -203%) Bestgetgoing |
200/1(-203%) | (14) Bestgetgoing 200/1, Jet Away mare. Dam unraced sister to fairly useful chaser (stayed 21f) Easily Pleased. Wears hood. Low-key debut back in May 2023. Absent since beating just the one home in a Ffos Las bumper on good to firm in May 2023. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
GAMESTERS GUY had little difficulty when making all under a penalty at Carlisle last season. The dual bumper winner makes plenty of appeal now tackling hurdles for the first time and he ticks plenty of the right boxes. Penalised winners Navajo Indy and Not Now Nathaniel should put their experience in this discipline to good use, with the former expected to serve the most resistance to the selection after gaining a breakthrough victory at Wincanton in April.
GAMESTERS GUY was talented enough to win a couple of bumpers last season and in receipt of weight from the previous hurdles winners Navajo Indy and Not Now Nathaniel, he looks the way to go.
The penalty asks a question of him but NAVAJO INDY brings solid form claims and is preferred to Gamesters Guy.

Vicki Vale |
(2) (11/2 +78%)11/2(+78%) | (2) Vicki Vale 11/2, Fair fourth of 7 in handicap hurdle (33/1) at Ludlow (21.2f, good) 20 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up off a 2 lb lower mark. Showed a bit more spark back over hurdles at Ludlow; nothing wrong with her mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (8) (7/2 +42%) Mermaids Cave |
7/2(+42%) | (8) Mermaids Cave 7/2, Bagged her third win for current yard at Cartmel in May and posted a good fourth of 14 in handicap there (17.2f, good) in June. That form has worked out really well so she's a player now freshened up after a break. Mark took a hit for three wins earlier this year but she might be better for a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 +38%) Easy To Follow |
5/1(+38%) | (3) Easy To Follow 5/1, Already a dual 19f hurdles winner and not disgraced when fourth of 6 in handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, heavy) 9 months ago. Can make her presence felt on her return. Basically progressive but seems best on heavy ground and has been off for a while. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/4 +40%) Little Miss Dante |
6/4(+40%) | (1) Little Miss Dante 6/4, A dual 2m winner last term but tongue tied when pulled up in listed hurdle at Cheltenham (20.2f) in April. Has since had a wind op so not ruled out now going into handicaps after a break. Had win op since pulled up in a Listed race; one to consider on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (10/1 -100%) Could Be Trouble |
10/1(-100%) | (6) Could Be Trouble 10/1, Resumed winning ways in 7-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham (20.1f, good) 25 days ago. This C&D scorer can give another good account despite a 4 lb rise. Made all at Hexham but this might not pan out quite so favourably. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (22/1 -57%) River Robe |
22/1(-57%) | (9) River Robe 22/1, Took a step back in the right direction when third of 6 in handicap hurdle at Stratford (16.3f, heavy) 10 days ago. Can go well again eased 1 lb. Successful for the Skeltons; latest Stratford third was a step in the right direction. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (9/1 +18%) Sedge Wren |
9/1(+18%) | (4) Sedge Wren 9/1, Landed novices at Huntingdon and Southwell in 2022/23 and not discredited when fourth of 6 in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy) 7 months ago. One for the shortlist. Won two good-ground novices; ground was heavy when well held on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (8/1 -33%) Rialannah |
8/1(-33%) | (5) Rialannah 8/1, Remains a maiden but off 6 months before posting an encouraging fourth of 9 in novice hurdle at Market Rasen (16.6f, good) 14 days ago. Much respected now going into handicaps. Beaten favourite last time but may have needed it and returns to a better trip here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Donald McCain's runners always warrant close inspection given his fine strike-rate at this venue and another bold bid is forecast from COULD BE TROUBLE. The nine-year-old made all the running at Hexham earlier this month and a 4lb rise looks on the lenient side. Little Miss Dante was highly tried outside of handicap company last season and better is expected on her handicap bow. Mermaids Cave should appreciate this longer distance and isn't easily dismissed either.
A case can be made for all of these but James Owen continues among the winners and his MERMAIDS CAVE is taken to resume her progress after a break and bag a fourth victory for the yard. The handily-weighted Kay Tara Tara is feared most starting out for a new stable after breathing surgery, while Could Be Trouble, Little Miss Dante and Vicki Vale all need factoring in too.
A chance is taken on KAY TARA TARA rediscovering her peak form for Alan King, having had wind surgery before this stable debut.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (5) (5/1 +17%) Chancycourt |
5/1(+17%) | (5) Chancycourt 5/1, Very lightly-raced for an 8-y-o and has found just one too good on his last 2 completed starts over hurdles, including when clear of the rest in a 2½m Worcester maiden (soft) last time. The winner of that race looks useful and he's of major interest now upped in trip for this chase/handicap debut. Beaten by a smart one last time; has to be of interest off this mark now sent chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (8/1 +20%) Ultra Beat |
8/1(+20%) | (3) Ultra Beat 8/1, Placed sole run between the flags and bettered previous hurdles form by some way when third in a 14-runner novice at Ffos Las (2¾m, good to soft) on latest start in May. May well be seen in a better light now switched to fences for this handicap debut, so he's one to be interested in. Good final run over hurdles; interesting handicap/chase debutant as he's bred for it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (15) (50/1 -100%) Lazy Sunday |
50/1(-100%) | (15) Lazy Sunday 50/1, Completed a hat-trick in handicap chases early-2023 and positive start to last season when runner-up in handicaps at Ffos Las and Chepstow. However, form subsequently nosedived and she now finds herself with a bit to prove. Failed to fire on all cylinders last season but she's back on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (12/1 -85%) Breeze Of Wind |
12/1(-85%) | (11) Breeze Of Wind 12/1, Point winner who, following a brief stint over hurdles, was much-improved switched to fences last season, winning 4 of his 9 starts in that sphere. Marathon trip (30.6f) was perhaps a bridge too far at Perth when last seen in April and leading claims back down in trip here. Last season was highly productive and consistent; can live with this career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) (9/2 +72%) Hill Of Tara |
9/2(+72%) | (13) Hill Of Tara 9/2, Enjoyed a good time of it last winter, bagging 4 handicap hurdles at up to 25.5f. However, signed off 2023/24 campaign with a couple of rather disappointing efforts (particularly his latest at Haydock where he was beaten a long way) and needs to get back on track now switched to fences. Four hurdle wins last season; makes chasing debut with his yard quiet. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (12/1 +40%) New Order |
12/1(+40%) | (4) New Order 12/1, Off the mark at second attempt in Irish points and made the frame on each of his first 4 starts over hurdles. Rather disappointing the last twice, albeit last month's reappearance spin/handicap bow at Worcester was probably needed and he's another that could be more of a force in this sphere. Will need to run better on today's chase debut than on his handicap hurdle hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (9/1 +36%) Exmoor Forest |
9/1(+36%) | (6) Exmoor Forest 9/1, Opened chase account in first-time cheekpieces when landing 9-runner handicap at Bangor (3m, good) in July. Latest third at Warwick was a creditable effort, too, but one suspects that a few of these will prove to be better treated. C&D winner in June and close to that form when third at Warwick last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (7) (12/1 +14%) Stans The Man |
12/1(+14%) | (7) Stans The Man 12/1, Firmly back in form with cheekpieces fitted in recent months, belatedly adding to maiden hurdle success back in January 2023 when landing a 3¼m Warwick handicap on penultimate start. Pulled up on chase debut last September but he's open to improvement in this sphere. Capable hurdler but a hard ride and was pulled up on chase debut last September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (5/1 +50%) East Street |
5/1(+50%) | (2) East Street 5/1, Benefited from a pace collapse when scoring at Wetherby (24.2f, heavy) last November and almost followed up at Newcastle next time. Very little to shout about thereafter but makes debut for new yard on a potentially handy mark and it'll be interesting to see if the market speaks in his favour. On a dangerous mark and his new, up-and-coming yard could easily get him back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (14/1 -133%) King Of Brazil |
14/1(-133%) | (10) King Of Brazil 14/1, Fair hurdler/chaser who has won 2 of his 3 completed starts following a wind op last season. Remains on a feasible mark and he could have a big part to play if fully tuned-up back from a 6-month break. Does not always look wildly enthusiastic but will be competitive should he fancy it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (14/1 +13%) Monbari |
14/1(+13%) | (12) Monbari 14/1, Found improvement dropped in trip fitted with first-time cheekpieces when second of 11 in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, soft) in April. Heavy defeat a fortnight later and form has a patchy look to it ahead of this return/chase debut. Did threaten over hurdles but was also inconsistent; others look safer on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (16/1 -100%) Anti Bridgie |
16/1(-100%) | (1) Anti Bridgie 16/1, Fair form in winning her first 2 starts over hurdles last season and took advantage of a weak race to open her account over fences in a 5-runner novice at Warwick (2½m heavy) in March. Wasn't disgraced at Uttoxeter next time but looks vulnerable under top-weight back from a break here. Hurdle/chase winner; not on a bad mark though if on her game after a summer break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (20/1 +0%) Walking The Walk |
20/1(+0%) | (9) Walking The Walk 20/1, Scored twice at up to 3m last summer for Gordon Elliott and shaped as if retaining all of his ability when placed first 2 starts for new yard during the summer. However, he needs to bounce back following a poor showing at Worcester on latest start in July (since undergone a wind op). First two runs for this yard were okay; pulled up last time and had wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (66/1 -100%) Oscar Robertson |
66/1(-100%) | (8) Oscar Robertson 66/1, Scored at Wetherby in 2021 for Tom George but hasn't hit the target since and little impact in 5 starts for this yard, including tried in cheekpieces and a visor respectively the last twice. Cheekpieces back on here. Following a layoff, never really got going for his new yard last season. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Those with no chasing experience are certain to learn plenty, but it might pay to side with ULTRA BEAT. The Henry Daly-trained gelding showed only moderate form over timber, but the switch to fences along with the step up to 3m can unlock improvement within the son of Milan. Exmoor Forest has had six starts over the larger obstacles, including a C&D win from 3lb lower. He can put that knowledge to good use though and it would come as no surprise were he to mount a stern challenge. Others to note include On The Platform and Chancycourt.
The suggestion is CHANCYCOURT, who makes his chase debut off what looks a very fair mark judged on last month's second in a maiden hurdle at Worcester where he followed home a nice prospect in Potters Charm (winner again at Cheltenham recently), in turn pulling clear of the rest. He was placed in a couple of points in 2021 and looks a chasing type. Breeze of Wind is feared most ahead of King of Brazil, while Brook Bay, East Street and Ultra Beat are others to consider.
Loads of these need considering but EAST STREET (nap) is on a dangerous mark if James Owen can get him back on track.

I'm Ravenous |
(3) (5/1 0%)5/1(0%) | (3) I'm Ravenous 5/1, Strong in the betting after 10 weeks off and got off the mark over hurdles at the fourth attempt in Sedgefield maiden over this trip at the start of the month, knuckling down well. Quickly switches to chasing and this expensive point winner is very interesting. Chasing debut with a recent run under his belt after winning a Sedgefield maiden hurdle. |

1st (10) (9/4 +44%) Billytherealbigred |
9/4(+44%) | (10) Billytherealbigred 9/4, Got a hat-trick up in handicap hurdles in the mud last season (last 2 wins for this yard). Fell final start but should do just as well over fences and 4-y-o allowance a bonus. Improving hurdler earlier this year and has to be of interest on this switch to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (33/1 +0%) Immortal Fame |
33/1(+0%) | (6) Immortal Fame 33/1, Didn't really go on from a promising start over fences for Tom Lacey in 2022-23 but won a couple of handicap hurdles at around this trip last term. £16,000 buy for new trainer and probably high enough in the weights on return. Strike-rate of 5-15 over hurdles and it was always going to be tough last time; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (11/2 +27%) Icare Grandchamp |
11/2(+27%) | (9) Icare Grandchamp 11/2, Was getting the hang of chasing when last seen in the summer, showing further improvement back up in trip when opening his account in 13-runner handicap at Newton Abbot (21f) under this pilot. Up just 3 lb and should have more to offer in this sphere. Only his third run over fences when arriving late on the scene at Newton Abbot (2m5f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (16/1 +20%) Zestful Hope |
16/1(+20%) | (8) Zestful Hope 16/1, Not won for a while but has been given a chance by the handicapper and hinted at a revival back over fences at Fontwell 5 weeks ago. Surely vulnerable to a number of unexposed rivals in this line-up, however. Won off a higher mark over hurdles; only fourth on his return to fences (0-6) at Fontwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (9/1 -29%) Lady Balko |
9/1(-29%) | (1) Lady Balko 9/1, On a roll in handicap hurdles last season, completing a hat-trick at up to 3m and running well from a mark 26 lb higher than when starting her winning spree on her final outing. Point scorer and no reason why she can't do just as good over fences now. Shot up the weights over hurdles last season but can deal with this mark; 1-1 in points. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (7/1 +65%) Hawkseye View |
7/1(+65%) | (12) Hawkseye View 7/1, Winning pointer placed twice over hurdles and made a perfectly satisfactory chasing debut at Wetherby recently, shaping as if better for the run after 6 months off having looked third best for a long way. Better to come. 0-7 over hurdles; wasn't beaten too far on chase debut and could come on for the run. |

7th (11) (15/2 0%) Iron D'ex |
15/2(0%) | (11) Iron D'ex 15/2, Ended 2023/24 in a lull over hurdles but got back on track from a reduced mark to make a winning start over fences in similar event at Ludlow over this trip 3 weeks ago. This is tougher up 3 lb but he's entitled to build on that breakthrough. Maiden hurdler but made a winning start over fences at Ludlow; raised a fair 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (5/1 +33%) Baltray |
5/1(+33%) | (4) Baltray 5/1, Quickly made up into a fairly useful hurdler for his new yard, readily landing the odds in 2m3f novice at Hereford a year ago. Good run in Fontwell handicap only other start and should make his mark over fences. Did well during light hurdling career and he's very much bred for fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (10/1 -33%) Valens Bruyee |
10/1(-33%) | (7) Valens Bruyee 10/1, Landed his second handicap hurdle over this trip at Ffos Las when last seen. Will need to jump better over fences but has the size for the game and shouldn't be overlooked. Dual hurdle winner (the handicap off 7lb lower) and has the scope to do well over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (66/1 -164%) Micro Millions |
66/1(-164%) | (5) Micro Millions 66/1, £40,000 buy after winning an Irish point and made the frame 3 times over hurdles at up to 25f for Dan Skelton last term. Big sort who should have a future over fences for new yard. Left Dan Skelton for £15,000 and 0-5; still early days and he's bred for fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Lady Balko found rapid improvement over hurdles last season and although she appeared to be in the grip of the handicapper when last seen, a switch to fences could see the previous point winner resume her progress. Connections have wasted no time in sending Baltray, second over hurdles at Fontwell in May, over the larger obstacles for the first time. Emma Lavelle's gelding is sure to appreciate the switch and he is considered along with recent Sedgefield winner I'm Ravenous. It is IRON D'EX, a winner on his return/chasing debut at Ludlow, that shades preference, though, and he can defy a 3lb rise with improvement likely.
A whole host of potentially decent chasers, with I'M RAVENOUS taken to make a successful start for Ben Pauling. He's quickly switched to fences after scoring in a Sedgefield maiden hurdle at the start of the month and should have plenty more to offer. Icare Grandchamp, who opened his account in a Newton Abbot handicap chase when last seen, and One More Stroke are a couple of the other likely players.
A few of these appeal as likely improvers now sent chasing and recent maiden hurdle winner I'M RAVENOUS falls into that category.

1st (4) (7/2 -17%) Mutual Respect |
7/2(-17%) | (4) Mutual Respect 7/2, All the better for return when narrow winner at Worcester last month, albeit needed some luck. Racing off same mark in weaker race so obvious claims. Had luck on his side at Worcester but did make a bad late mistake and on same mark here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (15/2 -150%) Dromlac Jury |
15/2(-150%) | (1) Dromlac Jury 15/2, Quite a costly buy out of points and made a winning handicap bow over hurdles at Ludlow in March. Likely to continue her progress switched to fences so needs considering. Hurdle winner off 3lb lower last time; bred for fences and has the scope for them. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (15/8 +44%) Copernic Du Mazet |
15/8(+44%) | (6) Copernic Du Mazet 15/8, Looks to be being brought along steadily, posting a good third in handicap at Huntingdon final start. Not taken lightly on chase bow. 2nd in only handicap hurdle; goes chasing with low mileage and armed with a 4yo allowance.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (4/1 -20%) Libor Lad |
4/1(-20%) | (3) Libor Lad 4/1, Winner of 2½m handicaps in the mud at Uttoxeter and Doncaster last winter. Ended last season with a couple of poor efforts but made a promising first effort over fences when second at Stratford on return 3 weeks ago. Entitled to build on that. Winning hurdler; second on chase debut at Stratford, though that form is knockable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (11/1 +21%) Professor Klump |
11/1(+21%) | (2) Professor Klump 11/1, Idled and only just held on in a 17f maiden here in February prior to trailing in last of 7 on his handicap debut at Bangor the following month. Needs to get back on track switched to fences on return (placed on second of 2 starts in Irish points). Winning hurdler and, with his pointing background, chasing looks the way forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (12/1 +0%) Johnny Mac |
12/1(+0%) | (5) Johnny Mac 12/1, Has shown improved form since joining his current yard, completing hat-trick at Leicester in January, his resolution on show yet again in gaining another verdict of a length or less. Too free on return 16 days ago so worth another chance. Remains on a fair mark, but he did drop out very tamely on his recent return at Ffos Las. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (12/1 +40%) Orbys River |
12/1(+40%) | (7) Orbys River 12/1, Poor maiden hurdler. Failed to complete both starts in Irish points so opposable on chase bow. Twice runner-up over hurdles and wouldn't be handicapped out of this if taking to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (40/1 -21%) Man Of The North |
40/1(-21%) | (8) Man Of The North 40/1, Veteran who looks on the decline and easy to look elsewhere. 3 lb out of the handicap. Last success came over C&D but in early 2021; opposable on this year's two runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (50/1 +50%) Connolly |
50/1(+50%) | (9) Connolly 50/1, Little promise in bumpers/over hurdles. 4 lb out of the handicap on chase/handicap bow. Failed to show much over hurdles and he's out of the weights for chase/handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LIBOR LAD ran with enthusiasm when second on his chasing debut at Stratford 22 days ago and, off just 2lb higher, he could go one better with that experience to draw upon. Dromlac Jury got off the mark on her most recent start over hurdles and can also figure if she transfers a similar level of ability now she starts out over to this sphere. Orbys River and Mutual Respect are others to monitor closely in the betting.
MUTUAL RESPECT needed some luck to win at Worcester last month but he still beat a subsequent winner that day and is racing off the same mark in a weaker race here. Libor Lad made a promising start over fences when second at Stratford so is next best ahead of chasing-newcomer Dromlac Jury, who was progressive over hurdles last season.
This may go to one of the chasing newcomers and COPERNIC DU MAZET could be dangerous with his 4yo allowance.

(3) (13/2 0%)13/2(0%) | (3) It's Top 13/2, It's Gino gelding. Dam French 19f/2½m hurdle winner. Point bumper winner in April and yard had winner of one of these at Cheltenham on Saturday. British point bumper winner; yard won a bumper at Cheltenham last week. |

1st (4) (8/1 -78%) North Of Richmond |
8/1(-78%) | (4) North Of Richmond 8/1, £75,000 buy who was runner-up only outing in Irish points in May. Got to be respected on bumper debut. Fetched £75,000 after finishing a 5l second in a 3m point in Ireland. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (13/8 +54%) Douglas Hyde |
13/8(+54%) | (2) Douglas Hyde 13/8, £85,000 Irish point winner, half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/chaser Game Socks (21f-3¼m winner, by Leading Light). Yard 0-39 in bumpers in last 5 seasons. Bought for £85,000 after winning a four-finisher Irish point on heavy ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (13/2 +68%) Brixson |
13/2(+68%) | (1) Brixson 13/2, Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/chaser Terresita. 18/1 and hooded, offered something to work on first time up at Warwick 4 weeks ago, in need of the experience as well as probably a greater emphasis on stamina. Probably vulnerable on that showing. Lacked the gears to challenge but still ran well to be fourth at Warwick; hood left off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/2 +0%) Sign Again |
9/2(+0%) | (6) Sign Again 9/2, £60,000 buy after Irish point win in April, when beating a well-regarded one who has since joined Olly Murphy (odds on when beaten at Sedgefield recently). From the family of Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle On and appealing on debut. Recruited for £60,000 after winning an Irish point in April by 4l (good to yielding). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (7/2 +13%) Paddys Policy |
7/2(+13%) | (5) Paddys Policy 7/2, £45,000 buy, runner-up only outing in Irish points (Mar 31). Yard had 3 bumper winners from last 7 runners. Well worth considering. Beaten 2l in a Quakerstown point (3m, soft) in March and later bought for £45,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (12/1 +0%) The Dancing Lass |
12/1(+0%) | (7) The Dancing Lass 12/1, Norse Dancer filly. Half-sister to 2¼m French hurdle winner Johnnysaid and modest 3m chase winner Safe Destination. Dam winning pointer. One for shortlist on debut. Half-sister to winners Safe Destination (3m chase) and Johnnysaid (French 2m2f hurdle). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
DOUGLAS HYDE was a comfortable winner on his solitary start in a point-to-point and, having subsequently been snapped up for 85,000 pounds at the Aintree sales in April, there is a lot to like now the four-year-old starts out under Rules under the tutelage of Rebecca Curtis. Sign Again holds a similar profile and appeals given his dam is an unraced half-sister to the high-class Put The Kettle On among others. It's Top also boasts a notable NH pedigree and warrants a second look.
Some interesting recruits from the pointing field, with PADDYS POLICY selected before market clues to give the Donald McCain yard another bumper winner. Sign Again and It's Top are also appealing.
The six with experience have all shown ability. Narrow preference is for SIGN AGAIN ahead of North Of Richmond.
Ths is the racecard key.
