1st (3) (7/5 +69%) Immortal Fame |
7/5(+69%) | (3) Immortal Fame 7/5, Didn't go on from a promising start over fences for Tom Lacey in 2022/23 but won a couple of handicap hurdles around this trip last term. £16,000 buy for new trainer and did all he could behind a progressive one back chasing at Bangor on return recently. Faces a younger pair of chasing debutants. Kept on for second (no match for winner) on recent stable debut; remains on workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3/1 -100%) Step Out |
3/1(-100%) | (1) Step Out 3/1, Runner-up 3 times over hurdles before getting it right in a Downpatrick maiden in August (21.8f). No match for one under a penalty at Kelso next time (said to be showing signs of heat stress) and presumably unsuited by the drop in trip here earlier this month. Considered on chase bow. Hurdle winner in August; beaten favourite twice since; still considered on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (11/8 +0%) Kandor |
11/8(+0%) | (2) Kandor 11/8, Left hurdling debut form well behind when winning novice at Perth (20.2f) in July and acquitted himself well under a penalty at Kelso next time. Well held from a stiff opening mark last time but was runner-up in an Irish point so a likely sort on chase bow. Tongue tie applied (has had wind op). Disappointing on recent handicap hurdle debut but should have a future over fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Step Out has something to prove after his recent fifth-placed defeat in a novice hurdle here and a switch to chasing will hopefully perk his interest. Fellow chase debutant Kandor may appreciate a return to this distance and the five-year-old isn't taken lightly. However, IMMORTAL FAME arrives on the back of a solid second to a progressive rival over fences at Bangor and he could put his chase experience to good use.
A tricky puzzle to solve despite the small field but preference is for KANDOR, who opened his account over hurdles at Perth in the summer and, having been a runner-up in Irish points earlier in his career, he can make the successful transition to chasing at the expense of Step Out, who was unsuited by the drop in trip when well held here earlier in the month and also makes his chase bow.
The vote goes to IMMORTAL FAME, who has the benefit of chasing experience and ran quite well on slower-than-ideal ground last month.

1st (2) (4/9 -11%) Evaluation |
4/9(-11%) | (2) Evaluation 4/9, Useful handicapper on Flat (stays 16.5f) who opened his account for this yard at Wolverhampton (16.5f) in April. Creditable efforts in competitive contests all 4 starts since and he's an interesting contender now hurdling on the back of wind surgery. Second in Northumberland Plate this summer; has excellent chance on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 +30%) Clondaw Fame |
7/2(+30%) | (1) Clondaw Fame 7/2, Fame And Glory gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Sneaky Getaway. Had wind surgery ahead of debut and he's one to note, particularly if strong in the betting. Wears hood. Fourth in three Irish points in 2011; makes rules debut after mammoth absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/2 +39%) Gorvennec |
11/2(+39%) | (3) Gorvennec 11/2, Martaline gelding. Made frame completed start in points and showed a bit on Rules debut when fifth of 9 in a bumper at Hexham (16.2f) 32 days ago. Will likely need to step up on that effort to play a lead role now tackling timber. Made low-key bumper debut last month but was a convincing Irish point winner in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (22/1 -38%) Blow A Fortune |
22/1(-38%) | (5) Blow A Fortune 22/1, Bred to stay well and offered only minor promise in pair of hurdle starts to date, eighth of 10 in novice hurdle at Kelso (16.2f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Handicaps/over further promise to be more suitable moving forward. Posed no threat when among the outsiders for two Kelso hurdles last month (2m5f/2m). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (200/1 -33%) Breadalbane Lass |
200/1(-33%) | (6) Breadalbane Lass 200/1, Telescope filly who showed ability when sixth in a Newcastle bumper in December but still in need of experience when pulled up on hurdles bow at Catterick (15.7f) in February. Best watched on return to action. Struggled when 200-1 for hurdle debut in February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (150/1 +0%) Catcha Flight |
150/1(+0%) | (7) Catcha Flight 150/1, Hinted at ability on debut in a Kelso bumper back in May but offered little starting out in this sphere when tenth of 12 in a C&D novice 11 days ago. Best watched. Made fairly encouraging bumper debut in May but struggled in a recent C&D hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (40/1 -21%) Split Stone |
40/1(-21%) | (4) Split Stone 40/1, Clovis Du Berlais gelding. Dam lightly raced on Flat/in points. 16/1, never figured when seventh of 8 in bumper at Perth (16.2f) on debut in May. Passed over now sent hurdling after 6 months off. In rear throughout when 16-1 for Perth bumper on debut in May. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Decent Flat performer EVALUATION ticks plenty of the right boxes on his hurdles bow. Lucinda Russell's charge finished a respectable 13th in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last month and he certainly won't be found lacking for stamina in this discipline. Irish point winner Gorvennec failed to make much of an impact in a bumper at Hexham 32 days ago, but better is expected now tackling timber. Nick Alexander's five-year-old is feared most, ahead of Blow A Fortune.
No real depth to this novice but EVALUATION is firmly established as a useful staying performer on the level and is taken to make it first time lucky now tackling timber for the first time. Newcomer Clondaw Fame could well emerge as the chief danger.
Useful Flat stayer EVALUATION makes his hurdling debut in a very modest race and ought to win easily if his jumping is adequate.

1st (7) (15/2 +6%) Dalileo |
15/2(+6%) | (7) Dalileo 15/2, Respectable sixth of 10 in handicap hurdle here (24.3f, good to soft) 16 days ago. One for the shortlist. Just 2-30 over hurdles and was down the field here last time; needs more back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/4 +21%) Summergrounds |
11/4(+21%) | (5) Summergrounds 11/4, Winner at Market Rasen in May and posted a creditable third of 11 in handicap hurdle at Kelso (20.9f, good to soft) 38 days ago. Looks competitive on form. Consistent sort who was placed behind a major improver at Kelso last time; shortlisted.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (7/1 -75%) Balranald |
7/1(-75%) | (8) Balranald 7/1, Arrives on a hat-trick after 2m handicap wins at Sedgefield and Newcastle last month. Not taken lightly despite a 4 lb weights rise. Has won his last two starts and should go well again back up in trip in hat-trick bid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/4 +25%) Bathgate |
9/4(+25%) | (6) Bathgate 9/4, Still a maiden but comes here on the back of a very good second of 14 in C&D handicap last month. Big shout despite taking a 3 lb weights rise. 0-8 but he went close over C&D last time and is a big player if he can back that up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (10/1 +70%) Cave Hill |
10/1(+70%) | (9) Cave Hill 10/1, 25/1, eleventh of 15 in handicap hurdle at Perth (20.2f, good to soft). Off 6 months with work to do in first-time tongue tie. Ten-race maiden who has struggled over hurdles and can only be watched on his return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (16/1 -167%) Blazing Court |
16/1(-167%) | (2) Blazing Court 16/1, Got off the mark in 2m4f Worcester handicap chase in August. on his final run for Martin Keighley. Not discounted back in this sphere for his new stable. Won over fences in August; 3lb higher for new yard but he's respected back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (15/2 +46%) Evenwood Sonofagun |
15/2(+46%) | (4) Evenwood Sonofagun 15/2, Remains a maiden after 19 runs. 18/1, first run since leaving Fergal O'Brien when tenth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Kelso (16.2f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Cheekpieces back on with work to do. Still a maiden after 24 starts and was well held on stable debut last month; down the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (22/1 -10%) Don't Look Back |
22/1(-10%) | (10) Don't Look Back 22/1, Remains a maiden after 17 runs. 28/1, pulled up in handicap hurdle at Perth (20.2f, soft) 49 days ago. Hard to make a case for. 0-17 over hurdles and he's failed to complete at Perth last twice; 4lb out of weights here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (14/1 0%) C'est Quelqu'un |
14/1(0%) | (1) C'est Quelqu'un 14/1, A dual chase winner for Gordon Elliott last term but pulled up over hurdles/fences this time around. Tongue strap back on with lots to prove for his new handler. Pulled up in final two runs for Gordon Elliott and has plenty to prove for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (40/1 -100%) Love That |
40/1(-100%) | (3) Love That 40/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Fell 4th in handicap hurdle (66/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 16 days ago. Still needs considering with few miles on the clock. Unexposed 5yo but he fell on handicap debut here last month and others are more convincing. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The hat-trick seeking Balranald must enter calculations in his current mood and a 4lb rise in the ratings for his recent triumph at Newcastle looks more than fair. However, SUMMERGROUNDS' third behind two subsequent winners at Kelso last month couldn't have worked out any better and Nicky Richards' gelding shades the verdict. Bathgate is unlikely to be far away if reproducing his latest runner-up effort over C&D.
A few with chances but BATHGATE signalled he is ready to gain a breakthrough victory when an excellent C&D runner-up last time out. Hat-trick seeking Balranald rates the obvious threat, with in-form duo Dalileo and Summergrounds both firmly in the picture too. The lightly-raced Love That completes the shortlist.
Several have possibilities but the vote goes to BATHGATE, who travelled well for a long way before going close over C&D last time.

1st (1) (9/4 -105%) Ilikedwayurthinkin |
9/4(-105%) | (1) Ilikedwayurthinkin 9/4, Useful handicap hurdler/chaser at one time and has rediscovered some form this summer, scoring twice in Cartmel handicaps. Creditable third there since and will find this less competitive. Two wins at Cartmel in the summer; fair third there last time; could play a leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (15/8 +32%) No Regrets |
15/8(+32%) | (3) No Regrets 15/8, Kelso winner in May and still looked in good heart after 2 months off when fourth back at that venue (21.6f, good) in September. Suffered a fall at Hexham the following month but type to bounce back. Has run some good races in the visor this year & there's every chance he'll be in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (6/4 +33%) Artic Row |
6/4(+33%) | (2) Artic Row 6/4, Successful 3 times last season (all 3 wins over 20f here). Didn't seem to stay this trip at Perth final start and got no further than the first fence at Hexham on return. Better ground and a return to this track are the positives. Stamina to prove and prone to odd mistake but excels at Ayr; major player if seeing it out. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
This may prove a good opportunity for ILIKEDWAYURTHINKIN to return to winning ways. Ben Haslam's charge was thwarted in his hat-trick bid when finishing third at Cartmel in August but, easing in trip off an unchanged mark, he gets the nod ahead of Artic Row. Nick Alexander's gelding didn't get further than the first on his seasonal reappearance at Hexham, but he boasts form figures of 91111 at this venue and must enter calculations. No Regrets is also noteworthy.
ILIKEDWAYURTHINKIN was third in a better race than this at Cartmel 11 weeks ago and could be the way to go. Artic Row has an excellent record here so is next best on his second try at this distance.
Ayr brings out the best in ARTIC ROW, whose five visits here have yielded four wins, and he gets the nod ahead of No Regrets.

1st (4) (6/1 -20%) Kinbara Firstdraft |
6/1(-20%) | (4) Kinbara Firstdraft 6/1, Made a successful handicap debut at Perth (16.2f, good to firm) in June but hasn't built on that effort in 2 starts since, sixth of 8 at Kelso (20.9f, good) on latest run in September. Could fare better back down in grade, though. 5yo who won on handicap debut at Perth in June but unable to kick on since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (4/1 +80%) Malangen |
4/1(+80%) | (8) Malangen 4/1, Successful at Hexham (16.2f, good) in June and has been kept busy of late, below form ridden more patiently when seventh of 10 at Carlisle (17.2f, good to soft) 10 days ago. Is now 2 lb below last winning mark but more needed to take advantage. Won off 2lb higher at Hexham in June but recent form has been mixed; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (9/2 +25%) Follow Charlie |
9/2(+25%) | (7) Follow Charlie 9/2, Improved sent handicapping last season, recording a second C&D success when scoring in good style in March. After 6 months off, shaped as if better for the run when down the field at Carlisle (17.2f, soft) in October, so he's one to note back here. Well beaten on reappearance but may have needed it; two C&D wins last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (12/1 -243%) Kilbrainy |
12/1(-243%) | (6) Kilbrainy 12/1, Off the mark in impressive style at Kelso (20.9f) a year ago and, after 10 weeks off, left behind some poor efforts when doubling his tally at Carlisle (20f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Could be in the mix with his latest run behind him. Back to form with 22-1 win at Carlisle; can play another leading role if on song once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (13/8 +46%) Fourofakind |
13/8(+46%) | (1) Fourofakind 13/8, Has taken his form up a notch since joining current yard this summer, winning a pair of handicap hurdles at Perth (both at 20.2f). Good effort when fourth of 9 at Carlisle (20f, good to soft) 10 days ago and he's a major player back down in grade. Has done very well since joining this yard in the summer and he's a solid contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (25/1 -56%) Quid Pro Quo |
25/1(-56%) | (2) Quid Pro Quo 25/1, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser at best for Dan Skelton. Ran no sort of race on final outing last year and, making first start for current yard, again finished well held back over hurdles at Wetherby (24.1f, good to soft) last month. Cheekpieces reached for. Wears cheekpieces on second start back from long absence, but was tailed off last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (17/2 -143%) Highly Recommended |
17/2(-143%) | (3) Highly Recommended 17/2, Well held in a bumper and was in need of experience on first 2 starts over hurdles. However, upped in trip he was much improved when winning a Ludlow novice (21.2f, good) last month. Makes handicap debut on first run for yard after leaving Mel Rowley. Easily won Ludlow novice last month; makes stable debut with yard in good form; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (80/1 -400%) Fugitives Drift |
80/1(-400%) | (5) Fugitives Drift 80/1, Went the wrong way for Nicky Henderson in 2022 and pulled up in hunter chase at Kelso (23.4f, heavy) sole outing in 2023/24 for Miss Lucy Brown. Has won one of 3 starts in points since (latest run in April), but others preferred back hurdling. Won a point-to-point in March but he may be best watched now back under rules. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Fourofakind lost little in defeat when finishing fourth over 2m4f at Carlisle earlier this month and, with his sights lowered off an unchanged mark, he warrants the utmost respect. That said, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED edges preference. He fairly bolted up over an extended 2m5f at Ludlow last month and, making his handicap debut for the in-form Dianne Sayer team, he looks the one to side with. Fellow last-time-out winner Kilbrainy is respected most of the remainder.
FOUROFAKIND continued in top form when making the frame at Carlisle 10 days ago and, with Conor Rabbitt back in the saddle (on board for both wins this season), he can take advantage of the return to this lower grade. Follow Charlie won twice over C&D last season and could be the main danger, ahead of Kilbrainy.
Topweight FOUROFAKIND (nap) has done very well since joining Lizzie Quinlan in the summer and can post his third win for the yard.

1st (1) (4/6 +20%) Castle Carrock |
4/6(+20%) | (1) Castle Carrock 4/6, Out of a dual bumper winner and a likely type on paper for a stable with a strong bumper record, particularly here. Dam bumper/2m2f hurdle winner; makes debut with trainer in good form; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (33/1 +0%) Jack Dempsey |
33/1(+0%) | (3) Jack Dempsey 33/1, Jack Hobbs colt. Dam, no show in 2 bumpers, half-sister to fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser (3m-3½m winner) See You There and fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3m) Golden Sparkle. Trainer 0-36 in bumpers in the last 5 seasons. Dam half-sister to two useful winners; trainer's horses have been running well this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (5/1 -43%) Shes All Pride |
5/1(-43%) | (6) Shes All Pride 5/1, Runner-up sole start in Irish points (May 25). The stable has had a bumper winner in the last 5 seasons. Runner-up in a point (albeit no match for winner); has to be respected on bumper debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (22/1 -38%) Portnablagh |
22/1(-38%) | (4) Portnablagh 22/1, Berkshire gelding who was pulled up in an Irish point last month. Wears a tongue strap. Pulled up in point but has travelled from Northern Ireland for bumper debut; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (15/2 +77%) Glenville |
15/2(+77%) | (2) Glenville 15/2, 25/1, down the field in a Haydock bumper in May. Returns in what is probably a weaker race but still only consider if the subject of market support. There's potential in his pedigree but he tailed off at 25-1 on debut at Haydock in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (5/1 -82%) Wild Reiver |
5/1(-82%) | (5) Wild Reiver 5/1, Valirann gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler (stayed 3m) Colonial Dreams. Wears hood. Interesting newcomer for a yard which has a 3-21 record in bumpers here in the last 5 seasons. First foal; dam unraced half-sister to some useful winners; possible player on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CASTLE CARROCK is out of a bumper winner and is a close relation to a useful chase winner. This looks a good starting point and he rates the one to side with first time up for the in-form Nicky Richards yard. Runner-up on her only point-to-point start, Shes All Pride commands respect on her Rules debut, while Wild Reiver and Glenville are a couple of others to consider.
Nicky Richards operates at a 25% strike-rate in bumpers here so CASTLE CARROCK looks the most likely winner before any market clues are known. Iain Jardine is more than capable of readying one for a race like this so Wild Reiver is a tentative second choice ahead of Irish point runner-up She's All Pride, a first ever Ayr runner for Deborah Cole.
The filly SHES ALL PRIDE showed ability in an Irish mares' maiden point in May and it's possible this race may not take much winning.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
