Frankendael |
(2) (13/8 +28%)13/8(+28%) | (2) Frankendael 13/8, First run since leaving Tim Easterby when 6/4, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Beverley (9.9f, heavy) 22 days ago. Expected to be bang there. Won with something to spare on heavy ground on stable debut at Beverley three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (9/2 +59%) Bashful |
9/2(+59%) | (1) Bashful 9/2, 3 wins from 9 runs this year. Latest win at Hamilton in July. 17/2, sixth of 8 in handicap at this C&D (soft) 9 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Seems to have gone off the boil. Didn't run badly in higher grade over C&D last week but needs to raise his game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (17/2 +15%) Ayr Poet |
17/2(+15%) | (7) Ayr Poet 17/2, 5-time course winner. 3 wins from 11 runs this year. Latest win here in September. 5/1, creditable third of 8 in handicap at this C&D (soft) 9 days ago, first home in group. Leading claims. Consistent five-time course winner who ran well over C&D recently and can be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (20/1 -67%) Stockbridge Tap |
20/1(-67%) | (13) Stockbridge Tap 20/1, 15/2, creditable third of 6 in handicap at Hamilton (11.1f, soft) 68 days ago. Can make presence felt. Encouraging run in August on second start back from long absence; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/1 -57%) Kentucky Bluegrass |
11/1(-57%) | (5) Kentucky Bluegrass 11/1, 2 wins from 6 runs this year. Latest win at Lingfield in June. 11/4, fourth of 6 in handicap at Epsom (8.5f, good to firm) 28 days ago. Respected. The dam's side of this 3yo's pedigree suggests the step up to 1m2f is worth a go. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/1 +9%) Bushfire |
10/1(+9%) | (4) Bushfire 10/1, Latest win at Southwell in September. Eighth of 12 in handicap (8/1) at Newcastle (8f) 13 days ago. Back up in trip. Could be back on his game. Disappointing last time but in good form previously & can make a bold bid if bouncing back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (15/2 +25%) Tilsitt |
15/2(+25%) | (3) Tilsitt 15/2, C&D winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2022. Creditable fourth of 8 in handicap at this C&D (soft, 7/1) 9 days ago. Visor on 1st time. Not discounted. Three-time course winner who was fair fourth in higher grade over C&D last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (12) (8/1 +50%) Mac Ailey |
8/1(+50%) | (12) Mac Ailey 8/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Hamilton in September. 3/1, fourth of 7 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, soft) 10 days ago. Back up in trip. Beaten at Hamilton latest and new 6lb higher mark has kicked in, but won easily previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (18/1 -13%) Nobody Told Me |
18/1(-13%) | (8) Nobody Told Me 18/1, 28/1 and blinkered for 1st time, tenth of 12 in handicap at York (16.2f, soft) 19 days ago. Significantly back down in trip. Has work to do. Drops back in trip but nevertheless has plenty to prove based on that recent evidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (33/1 -106%) Sophiesticate |
33/1(-106%) | (6) Sophiesticate 33/1, C&D winner. Last of 5 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, soft, 28/1) 10 days ago, flattered by proximity. Back up in trip. Others more persuasive. Runs off her last winning mark but she's finished down the field the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (25/1 -178%) Lunacy |
25/1(-178%) | (9) Lunacy 25/1, Latest win at Hamilton in September. Eighth of 9 in handicap at Hamilton (12.1f, soft, 9/4) 10 days ago. Might have found the race coming too soon last time, but faces another quick turnaround. Inconsistent and well beaten last time, but easy win two starts ago and not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (200/1 -150%) Maraakiz |
200/1(-150%) | (11) Maraakiz 200/1, 80/1, first run since leaving Linda Perratt when last of 8 in handicap at Hamilton (9.2f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Plenty to prove. Tailed off on both runs this summer after long absence and same story on recent yard debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (20/1 -25%) Kristal Klear |
20/1(-25%) | (10) Kristal Klear 20/1, 12/1, last of 7 in handicap at Chester (10.3f, soft) 27 days ago. Visor on 1st time. Others preferred. Form has gone the wrong way and the first-time visor needs to prompt a dramatic turnaround. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Jim Goldie has two good chances but five-time course winner AYR POET looks the best hope based on his proven effectiveness on this circuit. Amie Waugh's 3lb claim is a boost for the eight-year-old and further success could be imminent. There are dangers aplenty, though, and the likes of Kentucky Bluegrass, recent Beverley winner Frankendael and the first-time visored Tilsitt are all capable of making sure this is a typically competitive apprentice riders contest. The selection's stablemate, Sophiesticate, is dangerous to underestimate, too.
FRANKENDAEL upped his game immediately for his new stable at Beverley 22 days ago and there's likely more to come, so he gets the nod ahead of Ayr Poet and Kentucky Bluegrass.
Having won with something to spare on heavy ground at Beverley three weeks ago on stable debut, FRANKENDAEL (nap) can defy a 5lb rise.

1st (6) (9/4 +44%) Lava Stream |
9/4(+44%) | (6) Lava Stream 9/4, Thrice-raced maiden. Hooded for 1st time, fifth of 7 in minor event at Thirsk (8f, good to soft, 11/1) 41 days ago, keeping on without being given a hard time. Should have more to offer, particularly in handicaps. Has shown ability & might not be far away today, but suspicion she's vulnerable once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/5 -50%) Peace Walk |
6/5(-50%) | (1) Peace Walk 6/5, Never figured on debut in Convivial maiden at York but proved a completely different proposition when running out a comfortable winner of 8-runner Beverley novice (7.4f, heavy) 16 days ago. Step up to 1m promises to suit and sound claims with conditions holding no fears. Won by 4l at Beverley on second start; carries a penalty but nevertheless the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (17/2 -42%) Deimos |
17/2(-42%) | (2) Deimos 17/2, Night of Thunder colt who makes plenty of appeal on paper but ultimately held back by inexperience when sixth of 8 in 7f Thirsk novice on debut in August. Certainly the type to do better. Soundly beaten on debut but this 180,000gns yearling could be a big improver. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (17/2 +39%) Sanks To Flicka |
17/2(+39%) | (4) Sanks To Flicka 17/2, Foaled March 5. 40,000 gns yearling, Cracksman colt. Closely related to useful winner up to 7.4f Evocative Spark. Dam twice-raced, half-sister to useful winner up to 1m Emperor Claudius. Trainer had a productive August/September but is having a quiet year with his 2yos. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (6/1 +29%) Grey Nyle |
6/1(+29%) | (3) Grey Nyle 6/1, Foaled February 9. Frankel colt. Dam, winner up to 1m (2-y-o 6f winner) who stayed 1¼m, half-sister to useful winner up to 1m Stellar Path. Makes appeal on paper and interesting what the betting makes of him with yard also saddling Peace Walk. Well-bred Frankel newcomer; trainer also runs Beverley winner Peace Walk; check betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (150/1 -127%) Tommy's Promise |
150/1(-127%) | (5) Tommy's Promise 150/1, Once-raced maiden. Last of 9 in minor event (66/1) at this C&D (good to soft) on debut 21 days ago. 66-1, tailed off on recent debut over C&D (good to soft). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
PEACE WALK showed major improvement from first to second start when scoring comfortably at Beverley last month, and the slight rise in distance should not inconvenience as he looks to overcome a 7lb penalty. Lava Stream seemed to be getting the hang of things late on when fifth at Thirsk and he must enter calculations, along with Deimos, who wasn't disgraced on his racecourse bow for a stable in excellent form.
PEACE WALK left his debut effort in his wake when running out an authoritative winner of a Beverley novice 16 days ago, relishing the underfoot conditions in the process. Open to further improvement, he can concede weight all round and follow up. Deimos and Lava Stream head up the dangers.
The Charlie Johnston-trained PEACE WALK won by 4l on soft ground at Beverley on his second start and he's taken to defy a penalty.

1st (7) (9/4 +68%) Sassoon |
9/4(+68%) | (7) Sassoon 9/4, Unreliable type. C&D winner. Bit below form sixth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f, 33/1) 34 days ago. Refitting of a visor may well help but he's far from the easiest to predict. Has his conditions and he's dropped in the weights; revival not out of the question. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 -33%) The Gay Blade |
6/1(-33%) | (5) The Gay Blade 6/1, Latest win at Musselburgh (7f) in August. Good second of 8 in handicap at Hamilton (6f, soft, 6/1) 10 days ago, good headway final 1f and keeping on. Not taken lightly. In good form since a hood went on in August; 7f on testing ground may stretch his stamina. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (18/1 -64%) Zebra Star |
18/1(-64%) | (4) Zebra Star 18/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. 18/1, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at this C&D (soft) 9 days ago. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals. Not found her best form for this yard and work to do with Darbucks on last week's C&D run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (11/1 +31%) Miss Calculation |
11/1(+31%) | (1) Miss Calculation 11/1, Latest win at Thirsk (7f, soft) in April. Last of 12 in handicap (16/1) at Redcar (7f, good to firm) 15 days ago, weakening when short of room under 2f out. Plenty to prove at present. Well held in two runs back from a summer break but this is weaker and the ground will suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (7/1 -8%) Rogue Force |
7/1(-8%) | (8) Rogue Force 7/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2022. Good third of 12 in handicap at this C&D (soft, 13/2) 9 days ago, short of room briefly inside final 1f and keeping on. Not out of things from much-reduced mark. Down to a good mark now and last two runs here have hinted at a revival; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (17/2 -13%) Global Humor |
17/2(-13%) | (2) Global Humor 17/2, 3-time C&D winner who looked unfortunate not to add to his tally over C&D on his penultimate start in September. Respectable fourth back at this venue 9 days ago and not discounted operating from below last winning mark. C&D winner in June; respectable efforts the last twice but behind Darbucks last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (25/1 -39%) Jazzagal |
25/1(-39%) | (9) Jazzagal 25/1, Ninth of 10 in handicap at Catterick (6f, soft, 10/1) 8 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Up in trip. Needs a couple of these to falter. Inconsistent this year and stamina for 7f has to be taken on trust. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (40/1 -300%) Debater |
40/1(-300%) | (6) Debater 40/1, Visored for 1st time, twelfth of 13 in handicap (8/1) at Windsor (6f, good to firm) 38 days ago, weakening final 1f. Plenty to prove at present with blinkers now the headgear of choice. Struggling this season; ground a concern; another change of headgear this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (50/1 -52%) Hollis Brown |
50/1(-52%) | (10) Hollis Brown 50/1, Remains a maiden after 16 Flat runs. 15/2, fifth of 6 in handicap at Musselburgh (8f, good to soft) 26 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Exposed maiden; conditions no problem but cheekpieces need to give him a lift. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (3) (5/2 +0%) Darbucks |
5/2(+0%) | (3) Darbucks 5/2, Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. 5/2, good second of 10 in handicap at this C&D (soft) 9 days ago, collared final 100 yds. Shouldn't be long in resuming winning ways on recent evidence. Good C&D record this year; 2lb well in after last week's good second; solid candidate. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
DARBUCKS was only narrowly beaten into second in a similar event over course and distance last week and he is hard to oppose off the same mark. That said, The Gay Blade has a similar profile and is actually 1lb lower then when a neck second at Hamilton 10 days ago. With that in mind, the four-year-old cannot be discounted, while Global Humor and Rogue Force are others to note.
DARBUCKS arrives on a losing run of thirteen, yet he's gone very close to bucking that trend in recent starts, latterly when runner-up over C&D 9 days ago and he looks sure to go well again for all his mark is creeping back up. Global Humor and The Gay Blade are others to consider.
Darbucks is banging at the door but MISS CALCULATION has conditions to suit and may be primed to strike on this drop in grade.

1st (8) (14/1 +30%) Be Proud |
14/1(+30%) | (8) Be Proud 14/1, Course winner. Latest win at Doncaster in July. Twenty third of 25 in handicap (66/1) in the Silver Cup over this C&D (good) 19 days ago, hampered. Won two in a row in July; capable of having a say but has to bounce back to form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/1 -64%) Abduction |
9/1(-64%) | (2) Abduction 9/1, Multiple course winner. Latest win here in August. 6/1, shaped quite well when fourth of 7 in handicap at this course (7.2f, soft) 9 days ago, nearest finish and finishing with running left having been left with a lot to do. Needs everything to drop right but this three-time course winner is not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (3.33/1 -21%) Admiral D |
3.33/1(-21%) | (3) Admiral D 3.33/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2021. 20/1, good third of 25 in the Silver Cup over this C&D (good) 19 days ago, running on. Expected to be bang there from the same mark. Close third in the Silver Cup here last month; strong claims if repeating that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (6/1 +0%) Ascot Adventure |
6/1(+0%) | (4) Ascot Adventure 6/1, 15/2, improved on recent efforts to win 20-runner handicap at this C&D (good to soft) 20 days ago. 6 lb rise to contend with but he's clearly in good nick. Won the C&D Bronze Cup last month when clear with a next-time-out winner; unexposed at 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (7/2 +22%) Ramiro |
7/2(+22%) | (9) Ramiro 7/2, C&D winner who won 8-runner handicap (5/1) at Chester (7f, heavy) 12 days ago. Tendency to miss the break always a slight concern with him. Won in a big field over C&D in July and scored on heavy ground at Chester recently; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (4/1 +43%) Snazzy Jazzy |
4/1(+43%) | (1) Snazzy Jazzy 4/1, C&D winner. 33/1, first run since leaving Lawrence Mullaney when creditable fifth of 25 in the Silver Cup over this C&D (good) 19 days ago, running on. Big player eased in class. Promising fifth in Silver Cup here on stable debut and could have more to offer for yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (100/1 -52%) Shandy Star |
100/1(-52%) | (7) Shandy Star 100/1, Last of 7 in handicap at Pontefract (6f, good to soft, 20/1) 21 days ago. Eyeshields/blinkers on first time and she has a lot to prove. Made a belated reappearance this year and has been well beaten on both outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (28/1 -40%) Quintus Arrius |
28/1(-40%) | (6) Quintus Arrius 28/1, Two wins from 6 runs this year. Latest win at Hamilton in May. First run since leaving Kevin Ryan when last of 13 in handicap at Ripon (6f, good, 25/1) 12 days ago. 3yo who has won twice this year but was well beaten on recent stable debut at Ripon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (7/1 +42%) Jump The Gun |
7/1(+42%) | (5) Jump The Gun 7/1, Course winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 11/1, below form fourteenth of 25 in the Silver Cup this C&D (good) 19 days ago, finding little. Runner-up at Doncaster last month but merely mid-division in the C&D Silver Cup since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (33/1 -136%) Ramon Di Loria |
33/1(-136%) | (10) Ramon Di Loria 33/1, Stuck to his task when fifth of 10 in handicap at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Hood back on. Now below last winning mark but he's exposed. His mark has fallen but his form has taken a downturn on his last three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (18/1 +10%) Iris Dancer |
18/1(+10%) | (11) Iris Dancer 18/1, Three wins from 14 runs this year. Won 6-runner handicap (13/2) at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) 18 days ago, responding well. Must improve in this deeper race. Has won at Hamilton the last twice but that's her favourite track and this is tougher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (80/1 -142%) Sound Of Iona |
80/1(-142%) | (12) Sound Of Iona 80/1, Course winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. 25/1, seventeenth of 20 in handicap at this course (5f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Down to a dangerous mark but she's struggled to get competitive this year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ADMIRAL D bounced back to form when running a big race in third over C&D last time, and this looks a good opportunity to get his head in front. Richard Fahey's runner was only beaten one and a half lengths that day and he looks primed to go close off the same mark. Ascot Adventure rates as the biggest danger to the selection after scoring in the Bronze Cup last time, but it won't be easy to defy a 6lb rise, while Abduction also warrants respect.
Several of these ran in the Silver Cup here 3 weeks ago, with the frustrating ADMIRAL D (third on that occasion) taken to confirm the form and finally get off the mark for these connections. Snazzy Jazzy should pay his way for Seb Spencer and is feared, while Abduction, who has a good Ayr record, is also one to consider.
Having come clear with a next-time-out winner when landing the Bronze Cup over C&D three weeks ago, ASCOT ADVENTURE earns the vote.

11/2(+31%) | (11) Tremendous Times 11/2, Creditable fourth of 12 in handicap at this C&D (soft, 15/2) 9 days ago. Unexposed over this trip. Fair fourth when dropped back in trip over C&D last week and could make another bold bid. |

13/8(+46%) | (10) Jkr Cobbler 13/8, Three-time C&D winner. 4 wins from 15 runs this year, completing hat-trick here in August. 9/4, creditable second of 12 in handicap at this C&D (soft) 9 days ago, nearest finish. 20/1(-167%) | (1) Muntadab 20/1, Creditable third of 9 in handicap (13/2) at Musselburgh (7.2f, good to soft) 26 days ago, running on having been short of room briefly. One to consider eased in class. Back to form when third at Musselburgh; he likes it there but he's not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (12/1 -20%) Obee Jo |
12/1(-20%) | (12) Obee Jo 12/1, Latest win at Catterick in July. Good second of 9 in handicap at Catterick (7f, heavy, 13/2) 19 days ago, clear of rest. 3 lb rise isn't ideal. Likes Catterick, where he went close last time, but capable of running well elsewhere. |

Can make presence felt in this slightly weaker race. Five wins this season (including C&D) but the testing ground is a worry. |

14/1(+0%) | (6) Indian Falcon 14/1, Winner at Pontefract on just his second career start in April. 50/1, last of 12 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f) 29 days ago. Needs to leave that effort well behind. Plenty to prove regarding current form but return to testing surface offers chink of hope. |

66/1(-65%) | (13) Wrecked It Ralph 66/1, Unreliable sort. Course winner. 28/1, last of 9 in handicap at Hamilton (5f, soft) 10 days ago. Significantly up in trip with cheekpieces back on. On a competitive mark on this year's 5f/6f course form but well beaten the last twice. |

Hills Of Gold and Agnes Grey are open to improvement at this stage of their development and are serious competitors. However, TREMENDOUS TIMES has dropped to a highly attractive rating and, off 2lb lower than his latest start when fourth here, he has a live chance of reversing the form with the runner-up from that contest, Jkr Cobbler, to break his maiden at the 11th time of asking in the process. The veteran Muntadab is also feared.
JKR COBBLER is compiling an excellent record at Ayr, finding only a well-treated rival too good over C&D last week and from the same mark, he can regain the winning thread. Tremendous Times hasn't had much exposure to 7f so he's a threat, with Muntadab another to consider dropped in grade.
C&D specialist JKR COBBLER has continued in good form since winning three in a row here this summer and can get back on the scoresheet.

1st (7) (4/1 +20%) Banner Road |
4/1(+20%) | (7) Banner Road 4/1, C&D winner. Creditable second of 7 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, soft, 11/1) 10 days ago, having run of race. Needs considering. Has won just once but that was over C&D and she went close at Hamilton recently; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (5/1 +41%) Temper Trap |
5/1(+41%) | (1) Temper Trap 5/1, C&D winner. 3 wins from 14 runs this year. Latest win at Ripon in August. Creditable third of 8 in handicap at Hamilton (9.2f, good to soft, 7/1) 17 days ago. Looks competitive on form. Won three times in a row on soft ground this summer and he's on the shortlist today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (33/1 -65%) Two Rivers |
33/1(-65%) | (12) Two Rivers 33/1, Unreliable individual. Last of 13 in handicap (20/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 20 days ago. Others more persuasive. Some fair runs this season but soundly beaten over C&D last time and now 0-12. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (1.88/1 +16%) Zumaaty |
1.88/1(+16%) | (6) Zumaaty 1.88/1, Good second of 8 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, good to soft) 17 days ago, clear of rest. Took this 12 months ago so he's not taken lightly. Comfortably won this last year (heavy); arrives in similarly good form this time around. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (16/1 +0%) Retirement Beckons |
16/1(+0%) | (9) Retirement Beckons 16/1, 4-time C&D winner. 3 wins from 15 runs this year. Latest win at Carlisle in August. 28/1, fifth of 7 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, soft) 10 days ago so needs to bounce back. Three wins this year (two C&D) but he hasn't been at the top of his game the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (14/1 +13%) Motarajel |
14/1(+13%) | (11) Motarajel 14/1, Below form sixth of 11 in handicap at Redcar (8f, good, 25/1) 23 days ago. Eighteen runs since last win in 2022. Well handicapped on form as recent as July but hasn't threatened more recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (8/1 -33%) First Greyed |
8/1(-33%) | (2) First Greyed 8/1, Latest win at Beverley in August. 5/1, creditable third of 10 in handicap at this course (7.2f, soft) 9 days ago. Expected to be bang there. Good third over 7f here last time and there can be optimism he'll be fine back up to 1m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (7/1 +50%) Fifty Sent |
7/1(+50%) | (4) Fifty Sent 7/1, Ninth of 11 in handicap (16/1) at Redcar (8f, good) 23 days ago, very slowly away. Had an excuse last time and he's now 2lb lower than when second over C&D (soft) in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (50/1 -79%) Zalicia Fire |
50/1(-79%) | (10) Zalicia Fire 50/1, Below form sixth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 22/1) 17 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Robyn Brisland with more needed. Lightly raced 3yo who has dropped down weights, but hard to fancy on this year's evidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (14) (50/1 -150%) My Boy Teddy |
50/1(-150%) | (14) My Boy Teddy 50/1, 7/2 and hooded for 1st time, first run since leaving Ms Claire O'Connell when eleventh of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (8f) 10 days ago. It's very early days with this yard but he's shown little across his six starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (25/1 -79%) Keeponbelieving |
25/1(-79%) | (8) Keeponbelieving 25/1, 11/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, last of 5 in handicap at Musselburgh (9f, good) 79 days ago. Can give a good account if shrugging off latest effort. Lightly raced; some firm pointers in pedigree that she could be suited by testing ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (13) (100/1 -100%) Royal Countess |
100/1(-100%) | (13) Royal Countess 100/1, Course winner. Sixth of 8 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, good to soft, 66/1) 17 days ago, slowly away. Has work to do. Returns to the scene of her three wins but arrives with something to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (3) (80/1 -142%) Rains Of Castamere |
80/1(-142%) | (3) Rains Of Castamere 80/1, 14/1, below form eighth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (16.8f, good to soft). Off 12 months. First run for yard after leaving Ann Duffield with his fitness to prove. Struggled to get competitive off lowly hurdle mark in 2022; makes yard debut after absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (5) (22/1 -120%) Ben Asker |
22/1(-120%) | (5) Ben Asker 22/1, Course winner. 6/1, respectable fourth of 12 in handicap at Carlisle (6.9f, good) when last seen, faring best of those ridden prominently. Off 13 months. Rejoined in-form yard after leaving Katie Scott. No forlorn hope. Absent since last August but he's a two-time course winner and trainer is in fine form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Last year's winner Zumaaty returns in fine form and should go well again off a 5lb higher mark than 12 months ago, while Temper Trap won a division of this race in 2021 and sneaks in off top weight after a 1lb drop for placing at Hamilton recently. First Greyed is interesting stepping up in trip but preference is for BANNER ROAD, whose sole victory came over this C&D and Jim Goldie's filly hinted her turn was near again when a neck second at Hamilton.
ZUMAATY arrives in good nick and captured this event last year so he edges the vote in an open-looking contest. First Greyed is weighted to have a big say too and next on the list ahead of C&D winner Temper Trap. Fellow C&D scorer Banner Road completes the shortlist.
The in-form ZUMAATY won this comfortably on heavy ground last season and can land back-to-back runnings.

1st (7) (10/1 +0%) Ebony Maw |
10/1(+0%) | (7) Ebony Maw 10/1, One win from 26 Flat runs, which was gained back in 2020. 10/1, creditable 3½ lengths second of 9 to Jaminoz in handicap at Hamilton (12.1f, soft) 10 days ago. Live each-way candidate. Placed on his last two starts but hard to win with and may come up short once again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (8/1 +20%) Tafsir |
8/1(+20%) | (5) Tafsir 8/1, Three wins from 14 runs this year, the latest at Musselburgh in August. Below form third of 6 in handicap (7/1) at Chester (14.4f, heavy) 12 days ago. Opposable with conditions likely to be testing here, too. Three wins this summer; ran better than the distance beaten suggests latest; ground a ?. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (2/1 +33%) Clansman |
2/1(+33%) | (1) Clansman 2/1, Won 9-runner handicap (4/1) at this course (15f, soft) 9 days ago. More on his plate under a penalty but he clearly likes it here and conditions will not be a problem. Won this race in 2022; fine record on slow ground; 1m7f win here last week; big chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/2 -13%) Jaminoz |
9/2(-13%) | (4) Jaminoz 9/2, Course winner. Career best when winning 9-runner handicap (4/1) at Hamilton (12.1f, soft) 10 days ago by 3½ lengths from Ebony Maw, forging clear. This is more demanding under a penalty but he has to be taken seriously in current form. Chasing a hat-trick after two easy wins at Hamilton; another career best required to win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (10/1 -43%) Kells |
10/1(-43%) | (9) Kells 10/1, One win from 29 Flat runs. Winner at Thirsk in September. 7/4, third of 5 in handicap at Haydock (10.2f, soft) 13 days ago. Up in trip and he's likely to find one or two too good. Easy winner at Thirsk last month (1m4f, soft); beaten twice since and others are stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (15/2 -88%) Kittykarma |
15/2(-88%) | (6) Kittykarma 15/2, Winner at Thirsk in August. Good second of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 7/1) 6 days ago, just failing. Has form on soft ground (untried on heavy) and she's one to consider. Done well since the cheekpieces went on; 2lb well in; likely to stay; heavy ground a query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (18/1 +36%) Golden Valour |
18/1(+36%) | (8) Golden Valour 18/1, Temperamental sort. Two wins from 44 Flat runs. Respectable 8 lengths fifth of 9 to Jaminoz in handicap at Hamilton (12.1f, soft, 16/1) 10 days ago. Hopes pinned on the first-time blinkers triggering some improvement. Consistent this year but 0-28 on turf and the change of headgear isn't enough to tempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (13/2 +7%) Don't Look Back |
13/2(+7%) | (2) Don't Look Back 13/2, Respectable fourth of 10 in handicap at Catterick (12.1f, soft, 11/1) 8 days ago. Very much one to consider now dipping into 0-65 company and faced with a stiffer test. Easy win on heavy ground in April; stamina to prove but not on a bad mark; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (28/1 -100%) Highlighter |
28/1(-100%) | (3) Highlighter 28/1, Last of 4 in handicap at Newcastle (16.2f, 5/2) when last seen. Off 113 days and he's probably worth taking on for all conditions will suit. Not kicked on in handicaps just yet but a break may have helped & he'll handle conditions. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
JAMINOZ arrives here in fine form, seeking a hat-trick after consecutive wins at Hamilton, and he gets the nod for Jim Goldie. The four-year-old seemed to get better the further he went over 1m4f last time and he appears likely to mound a bold bid in attempting to defy a 5lb penalty for that three and a half-length success. Kittykarma makes most appeal of the rest after shaping as if this extra yardage would suit when just held over the extended 1m4f at Newcastle last time, while Clansman is also respected in his bid to follow up a victory over 1m7f here last week.
Having shaped with encouragement at Catterick the last twice, DON'T LOOK BACK could be the answer now pitched into a 0-65 contest and moving up in trip. He could have most to fear from the sole 3-y-o in the line-up, Kittykarma, who was just touched off at Newcastle six days ago and looks dangerous off the same mark (due to go up 2 lb). The hat-trick seeking Jaminoz is third choice ahead of Clansman.
With underfoot conditions to suit, last year's winner CLANSMAN is taken to defy top weight at the main expense of Don't Look Back.
Ths is the racecard key.
