It's taken a bit of time to get him to the track but it'll still be interesting to see what the betting makes of him. £80,000 buy after Irish point 2nd in November 2023 (form sound); one to consider on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

33/1(-175%) | (2) Blakey Boy 33/1, Has shown ability in 2 bumpers 6 months apart and this longer trip promises to suit now hurdling. Creditable efforts in two bumpers but probably best watched on first run over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (50/1 -52%) Jet Light |
50/1(-52%) | (5) Jet Light 50/1, £28,000 point recruit but more one for longer term under Rules judged on his Carlisle hurdle debut. £28,000 buy after 2 fair runs in Irish points; tailed off on hurdles debut; should improve. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
YOUNG GETAWAY has shown a fair amount of promise on both hurdle outings so far, including when third to a useful type of Dan Skelton's here in October, and the six-year-old is expected to benefit from a step up in distance. Al Kalila has a level of form that suggests he is likely to enter the reckoning on his first outing since Punchestown last April. Others for the shortlist include Jeune Prince and St Olan's Well.
AL KALILA has the best form if he's fully primed after 8 months off. Jeune Prince promises to benefit from this longer trip and is second choice ahead of the Nicky Richards-trained Young Getaway.
This can go to SCARLET JET, who won a UK point in May and improved on his first run over hurdles when fourth at Carlisle last time.

1/4(+31%) | (8) Walking On A Dream 1/4, £45,000 purchase after finishing runner-up all 3 completed starts in Irish points (latest May 11). Bright start under Rules when chasing home the useful Country Mile in a C&D novice in October and this looks an excellent opportunity to get off the mark. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (20/1 +0%) Lizzie Luna |
20/1(+0%) | (10) Lizzie Luna 20/1, Modest form in bumpers and glimmers of promise both starts over hurdles in recent months. However, looks the type who could well come into her own when attentions switch to handicaps. Has shown some ability but yet to finish better than fifth and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/1 +8%) Jony R |
11/1(+8%) | (5) Jony R 11/1, Leading Light gelding who showed little when tenth of 11 in a C&D bumper on debut back in April. Betting can guide now attentions switch to hurdling. Well beaten on debut in bumper here in April but yard has won last 2 runnings of this race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (100/1 -525%) Glenville |
100/1(-525%) | (3) Glenville 100/1, Down the field in a Haydock bumper in May and fared no better after 6 months off when fifth in 6-runner C&D contest 50 days ago. Hurdles debut. Down the field in both bumpers and lots of improvement is needed on hurdle debut. |

5th (2) (5/1 +9%) Famous Liss |
5/1(+9%) | (2) Famous Liss 5/1, Fair form on third start when runner-up in a Hexham novice (16.2f) in June. Shaped as if needing the run when last of 6 on handicap debut at Kelso (20.9f) in October prior to taking a heavy fall at Carlisle later that month. Given a break and strong claims of making the frame. Something to prove regarding current form but went very close at Hexham in June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (25/1 +69%) Red Ned |
25/1(+69%) | (6) Red Ned 25/1, Runner-up on the first of 2 starts in bumpers last season but offered little both starts over hurdles upon returning to action in October. Handicaps could be more his thing in due course. Short-headed in Southwell bumper in November 2023 but struggled on his three runs since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (200/1 -100%) Cage Rattler |
200/1(-100%) | (1) Cage Rattler 200/1, Modest 7f Flat winner who offered little both starts in maiden hurdles in November. Can only be watched. Modest on the Flat and tailed off at 125-1 in November on his two hurdle starts. |

12/1(+70%) | (4) Jirko 12/1, Comfortably held both outings in bumpers and only minor promise in pair of novice/maiden hurdles so far this winter. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (66/1 +18%) The Dipper |
66/1(+18%) | (7) The Dipper 66/1, Well held in bumper and 2 novice hurdles. Tailed off on both hurdle starts and improvement is needed, including in his jumping. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
WALKING ON A DREAM made a pleasing start when finishing runner-up over C&D in October and this appears to represent an excellent opportunity for Lucinda Russell's gelding to go one better. Famous Liss is capable of being in the mix judged on his novice form last summer. The return to 2m may well be another positive, while Glenville appeals as the type to improve on his first attempt over hurdles.
WALKING ON A DREAM produced a promising first effort under Rules when chasing home the now useful Country Mile in a C&D novice in October and this looks a great opportunity for him to open his account with improvement anticipated. Famous Liss can fill the forecast spot.
Three-time point runner-up WALKING ON A DREAM was second over C&D on his rules debut and can go one better today.

1st (3) (4/7 +62%) Hombre De Guerra |
4/7(+62%) | (3) Hombre De Guerra 4/7, Fair hurdler who got off the mark in a C&D maiden in March. Had wind op/off 8 months before a good second in a C&D novice chase 32 days ago and he's of interest now handicapping returned to this venue. Very creditable 2nd on chase debut at Carlisle; on an attractive mark now back in handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/2 +8%) Imaginary Dragon |
11/2(+8%) | (1) Imaginary Dragon 11/2, Fair hurdler who opened account at Kelso (22.7f) last December before a creditable fifth at Musselburgh in February. Found test inadequate after 10 months off when pulled up on chase debut at Carlisle (2m) 32 days ago and this again probably on the sharp side. Pulled up on chase debut but may have needed the run; lightly raced and retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (3/1 -20%) Park Annonciade |
3/1(-20%) | (2) Park Annonciade 3/1, Useful Irish hurdler who has yet to complete in this sphere but in process of running well (in second at the time) when falling 3 out at Doncaster (19f) 3 weeks ago. Player if brushing up his jumping. Yet to complete over fences but running well when falling 3 out last time; possible player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (28/1 -75%) Hermes Boy |
28/1(-75%) | (5) Hermes Boy 28/1, Mark eased plenty and capitalised on drop into class 5 company when successful in refitted cheekpieces at Wincanton (21.3f, heavy) in February. Overall record is patchy and unable to back that up twice thereafter. Returns to chasing now for new yard. Won over hurdles last February but struggled the next twice; has changed hands for £2,000. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HOMBRE DE GUERRA won a maiden hurdle here in March last year before struggling to land a blow at the Scottish National meeting on handicap debut. Nick Alexander's gelding was no match for Caldwell Potter on his chasing/seasonal bow at Carlisle but it was a solid beginning in this sphere and this might be the time to catch him, especially on his second start after a wind operation. Park Annonciade and Imaginary Dragon complete the shortlist.
HOMBRE DE GUERRA produced a promising first effort in this sphere when runner-up in a Carlisle novice 32 days ago and he earns the vote to build on that now handicapping back at the scene of his sole hurdles victory. Park Annonciade can emerge as the chief threat.
The unexposed 7yo HOMBRE DE GUERRA has an attractive mark to work with now back in a handicap for his second chase start.

1st (12) (11/5 +56%) Alright Dai |
11/5(+56%) | (12) Alright Dai 11/5, Made the frame all 3 starts in bumpers (trained by Dan Skelton first 2 outings), but hadn't offered much over hurdles until taking a step forward in first-time cheekpieces when landing handicap at Market Rasen (20.6f) on Boxing Day. Respected under a penalty. Won readily in first-time cheekpieces at Market Rasen last Thursday; leading player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (33/1 -106%) Santa Clarita |
33/1(-106%) | (9) Santa Clarita 33/1, Made a winning start for Dan Skelton back over hurdles at Worcester in September. Shaped encouragingly first 2 outings for current yard, runner-up at Kelso (20.9f) in November, before finding it tougher up in grade last time. Could bounce back. Fair second at Kelso on second run for yard but has to bounce back from lesser latest run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/1 +8%) So Many Roads |
11/1(+8%) | (2) So Many Roads 11/1, Made a winning handicap debut at this C&D in early-2023 but hasn't managed to go on from that effort since, running below form on last 2 starts. Needs to get back on track as he returns from 10 months off (has had breathing operation). Well beaten on final two starts last term but this C&D winner has had a wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (20/1 +50%) Snowrocco |
20/1(+50%) | (5) Snowrocco 20/1, Placed in an Irish point and encouragement when making the frame at Wetherby on hurdles bow. Remote third at Catterick next time, before down the field at Musselburgh (15.6f) on seasonal/handicap debut in November, but the step up in trip should suit. Down the field on handicap debut but bred to be suited by this longer trip; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (19) (7/2 +56%) Cave Hill |
7/2(+56%) | (19) Cave Hill 7/2, Has looked an improved performer with tongue tie applied last 2 starts, getting off the mark in 16-runner handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f) 19 days ago. Enters calculations now that he's up and running. Won big-field handicap at Newcastle last time; different ground today but still respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (20) (11/1 +39%) Lewa House |
11/1(+39%) | (20) Lewa House 11/1, Only one win from 22 starts but placed on 4 of his 6 outings last season. Failed to come on for reappearance run when sixth of 11 at Hexham (20.1f) 22 days ago, but he's not ruled out from 5 lb below his winning mark. Inconsistent 9yo with poor strike-rate but second in this last year and not ruled out e-w. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (14) (6/1 +40%) Wainwright |
6/1(+40%) | (14) Wainwright 6/1, After 5 months off, finished well held but showed a bit more promise on third start when seventh of 12 in novice at Kelso (18.1f) in April, still having plenty to do between 4 out and 3 out. Could yet do better as he makes handicap debut after 8 months off. Soundly beaten on all three starts but could improve for the longer trip on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (15/2 +17%) Beat The Retreat |
15/2(+17%) | (13) Beat The Retreat 15/2, Successful at this course (18f) in December 2023 but lost his way as the season ended and pulled up on return. However, under Dominic Hislop he bounced back to form when third at Musselburgh (19.8f) in November. Capable of getting involved. Course winner who was a good third at Musselburgh last time and could be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (17) (33/1 -18%) Ballyquin Bay |
33/1(-18%) | (17) Ballyquin Bay 33/1, Remains a maiden after 17 starts. Reached the frame in handicap hurdles for this yard last winter but pulled up both starts this season, the latest at Carlisle (19.3f) 18 days ago. On a competitive mark on last winter's form but pulled up on both runs this term; now 0-17. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (50/1 0%) The Jeweller's Pet |
50/1(0%) | (10) The Jeweller's Pet 50/1, In the frame twice in points and, upped further in trip, made more impact on third start over hurdles when sixth of 9 in a Cartmel maiden (22.1f) in June. Further improvement required as he goes handicapping after 6 months off. Has shown some ability and now goes handicapping off a lowly mark; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (18) (125/1 -150%) Catcha Flight |
125/1(-150%) | (18) Catcha Flight 125/1, Hinted at ability on bumper debut and did the same making third start over hurdles, unable to sustain effort from a long way back when down the field in a Kelso maiden (16.2f) 25 days ago. Upped in trip for handicap bow. Goes h'capping off lowly mark but hasn't achieved much over h'dles; claims not compelling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (3) (28/1 -40%) Love That |
28/1(-40%) | (3) Love That 28/1, Has made the frame (modest form) all 3 completed starts over hurdles, avoiding mistakes when second in a Kelso novice (20.9f) 25 days ago, albeit beaten 21 lengths. Needs to find more back in a handicap. Distant second of eight in Kelso novice last time; not ruled out now back in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (4) (50/1 -79%) Coral Blue |
50/1(-79%) | (4) Coral Blue 50/1, Three-time winner in 2022/23, including at this C&D, but failed to fire in 3 starts last season. After 6 months off, shaped as if better for the run when fourth of 5 at Uttoxeter (15.8f) in July, but he's been off again since. Won over C&D in February 2023 but this 10yo has been lightly raced since and hasn't shone. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (7) (20/1 -82%) Marty Mcfly |
20/1(-82%) | (7) Marty Mcfly 20/1, Struck at second time of asking for Sandy Thomson in a Perth handicap in June, but failed to repeat that effort at Kelso 5 months later (following a wind op). However, he ran better when fourth of 8 at Doncaster (16.6f) last time. Tongue strap back on. Shaped when fourth at Doncaster latest as though this step back up in trip worth a go. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (22/1 -38%) Topkapi Star |
22/1(-38%) | (15) Topkapi Star 22/1, Successful twice in 2022/23 but ran only once the following season. However, after another 5 months off she bounced back when winning at Sedgefield (19.8f) in October. Backed up that effort when fourth at Haydock (24.3f) last time, so she could be in the mix. Won at Sedgefield in October and fair fourth at Haydock next time; could be involved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (28/1 -40%) Euchan Falls |
28/1(-40%) | (11) Euchan Falls 28/1, Last win came at this C&D back in March 2023 and, after 5 months off, has finished well beaten returned to chasing on his last 2 starts. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 +0%) Lisloran |
50/1(+0%) | (8) Lisloran 50/1, Won 3 times over fences at around 20f during 2022/23 campaign. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (16) (80/1 -21%) Ardera Cross |
80/1(-21%) | (16) Ardera Cross 80/1, Veteran who has 9 chase wins at this course to his name. However, ran no sort of race at Carlisle on final outing in 2023/24 and has fared no better in 2 starts here this season. Others preferred back over hurdles. Nine-time course winner but this 14yo has struggled here on his two starts this season. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Freshened up following a costly Southwell defeat in the summer, ALRIGHT DAI made amends with an impressive victory at Market Rasen on Boxing Day and he is 5lb well-in under his penalty. The cheekpieces that appeared to do the trick in Lincolnshire stay on and he can follow up. Achnamara's penalty leaves him 6lb lower than his revised rating so the Sedgefield scorer looks very dangerous. Cave Hill arrives on the back of a breakthrough triumph at Newcastle and is noted too.
ACHNAMARA wasted no time getting back on track when opening his hurdles account with a wide-margin success at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and he can go on to score again under a penalty. Alright Dai also arrives on the back of a win 7 days ago and could be the biggest threat, with Cave Hill and Beat The Retreat also considered.
Having bolted up at Market Rasen on Boxing Day, ALRIGHT DAI can defy a penalty and make it 2-2 in the cheekpieces.

1st (2) (10/11 +24%) Whistle Stop Tour |
10/11(+24%) | (2) Whistle Stop Tour 10/11, Dual hurdle winner last season and this former Irish point scorer made it second time lucky over fences with a convincing display at Kelso (3m, heavy) last month, forging clear late on. Definitely more to come and can make light of a 6 lb rise. Won at Kelso last month on second chase start & could have lots more to offer over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (22/1 +21%) Wasdell Dundalk |
22/1(+21%) | (4) Wasdell Dundalk 22/1, Five wins since joining this yard but arrives with something to prove having pulled up on his last 2 outings. Won twice in the autumn; current mark shouldn't be beyond him but pulled up the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/2 -5%) Jet Legs |
7/2(-5%) | (5) Jet Legs 7/2, Winner of a pair of handicap chases around 3m last winter. Better effort this term when fifth of 11 in 4m Borders National at Kelso last month, left behind gradually after 3 out. Respected back at 3m. Progressive novice last season; weakened when fifth over 4m at Kelso; could be a player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/1 -175%) Gold Cup Bailly |
11/1(-175%) | (1) Gold Cup Bailly 11/1, Won first 3 starts sent chasing in 2022/23, including C&D, but lightly raced and well held since. Off a further 8 months since finishing 22 lengths third of 4 over hurdles at Down Royal in May. Below par last spring and returns from some more time off today, but has good record here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (10/3 +52%) Special Rate |
10/3(+52%) | (3) Special Rate 10/3, Enjoyed a most productive campaign over hurdles/fences last term, winning 7 from 10 starts for Philip Kirby. Shaped better than the result when seventh of 13 in the competitive Rehearsal at Newcastle (3m, good) in November, weakening having made headway into third. Had wind op since. On a handy mark on last season's best and not ruled out on first run since wind surgery. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Whistle Stop Tour was a progressive hurdler and looks set to continue that forward momentum after making it second-time lucky over fences at Kelso. Even so, a chance is still taken on the fitness of GOLD CUP BAILLY, who took this prize in 2023. Winless, albeit quite lightly raced since, his last three chase starts have come in Grade 3/premier handicap company and he can make the most of the drop in class. Special Rate also commands respect.
A 6 lb rise doesn't look enough to stop WHISTLE STOP TOUR with further improvement very much on the cards. Jet Legs seemed to find 4m on deep ground stretching his stamina in the 4m Borders National at Kelso and can provide the main threat back over shorter.
The novice WHISTLE STOP TOUR won at Kelso last month on second chase start and looks to be a stayer going places.

7/2(-40%) | (4) Hashtag Boum 7/2, Fairly useful winning hurdler who struck at the first time of asking over fences in 21f Sedgefield handicap at the beginning of October. Bumped into a smart prospect when second at Uttoxeter since. Likely more to come and respected. Promise on both chase starts and he could have more to offer; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (28/1 -40%) Lord Roco |
28/1(-40%) | (5) Lord Roco 28/1, Hurdle winner. Also runner-up 3 times over fences at the end of 2022 but off since pulling up twice at Carlisle in early 2023. Returns in quite a warm race and can only watch. Promising start to chase career in late 2022 but he has a hefty absence to defy. |

3rd (1) (11/10 +32%) President Scottie |
11/10(+32%) | (1) President Scottie 11/10, Ended last term on the up over hurdles, including a 20.5f win here. Promising second in 21.5f Haydock handicap on chase debut/reappearance. Looks sure to progress and win races over fences. Course hurdles winner who was a promising second on chase debut; open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (17/2 +15%) Step Above |

16/5(+20%) | (2) Choose A Copper 16/5, Posted career best when making a winning return/chasing bow at Hexham (2½m) in October. Disappointed at Kelso last time but he remains on a fair mark and could well bounce back. Won on chase debut at Hexham; disappointing at Kelso since but retains potential. |

|PU| (6) (16/1 +68%) Ozzy Cosmo |
16/1(+68%) | (6) Ozzy Cosmo 16/1, Irish point recruit who landed a 2m course novice hurdle on Rules debut last December but fell both subsequent hurdle starts last season and made an inauspicious start to his chase career when last of 6 on Kelso reappearance. Should do better at some point but can only watch this time. Course novice hurdle winner; not written off but well beaten at 33-1 on his chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
PRESIDENT SCOTTIE was far from disgraced when finishing second on his chasing debut at Haydock and is only 2lb higher for that performance. With plenty of scope for improvement, the gelding might be able to go one better. The main threat could be Hashtag Boum, who occupied the runner-up berth in this grade at Uttoxeter last time and should go well. Choose A Copper completes the shortlist.
There was plenty to like about PRESIDENT SCOTTIE's chase debut second at Haydock last month and he's narrowly preferred to Ruth Jefferson's Hashtag Boum in quite an interesting novice handicap.
Topweight PRESIDENT SCOTTIE (nap) is a useful prospect and can get off the mark over fences following his promising chase debut second.

2nd (6) (13/2 +46%) Gaillimh A Stor |
13/2(+46%) | (6) Gaillimh A Stor 13/2, Course novice hurdle winner back in 2022. Off 21 months, shaped as if retaining all his ability when third of 10 at Kelso (23f) 25 days ago. Claims if he can build on that. Returned from absence with mighty third at Kelso last month and could be a factor. |

3rd (10) (3/1 +63%) Adveram |
3/1(+63%) | (10) Adveram 3/1, Off the mark in 19.5f course handicap on reappearance in October. This consistent has hit the frame on both outings since but he is 4 lb out of the handicap here. 4lb out of the handicap but progressive form this season and could be in the shake-up. |

4th (3) (25/1 -127%) Pinot Rouge |
25/1(-127%) | (3) Pinot Rouge 25/1, Point winner who took well to hurdling last season, winning 3m Doncaster listed novice in March before fine fourth in Grade 1 Sefton at Aintree (3m again) in April. Has taken to fences this winter but may fare better back hurdling. Reverts to hurdles and she won a Listed mares' novice hurdle last March; not ruled out. |

5th (4) (17/2 -155%) Hazy Glen |
17/2(-155%) | (4) Hazy Glen 17/2, Promise in maiden/novice hurdles last season and improved to make a winning handicap debut/reappearance at Haydock (19f, soft) 29 days ago. Up in trip. Likely has even more to offer so a 5 lb rise may not stop him. Won on handicap debut at Haydock; new trip today but he's unexposed and promising. |

6th (7) (9/2 -29%) Forged Well |
9/2(-29%) | (7) Forged Well 9/2, Largely progressive hurdles, winning a 21f Kelso handicap in November. Good second (Gaillimh A Stor third) over 23f back there since. The even longer trip today should play to his strengths. Respected. Progressive at the end of last year and this longer trip could prompt further improvement. |

7th (8) (11/4 +45%) Both Barrels |
11/4(+45%) | (8) Both Barrels 11/4, Made steady progressive over hurdles last season, landing a 23f Kelso handicap in April. Off since but he's a low-mileage sort who could easily have more to offer. Returns from absence but brings staying potential to this reappearance; player if tuned up. |

8th (9) (33/1 +18%) Coventry |
33/1(+18%) | (9) Coventry 33/1, It's now 19 runs since his last win in 2021. Did run well for second at Carlisle (17f, soft) in October but not in anything like the same form at Haydock (2m) since. Significantly back up in trip now. Step back in the right direction at Carlisle in October but heavy defeat at Haydock since. |

9th (5) (66/1 -200%) Theme Tune |
66/1(-200%) | (5) Theme Tune 66/1, Landed a pair of 3m handicap hurdle wins for Nick Alexander in 2022/23 season but not seen since finishing a below-par sixth at Carlisle 14 months ago. Possibly best watched unless the market hints otherwise. Four-time winner but down the field in November 2023 and absent since. |

10th (1) (14/1 -17%) Wakool |
14/1(-17%) | (1) Wakool 14/1, C&D winner but had a poor time last season and beaten 21 lengths when fourth on his C&D return from wind surgery in November. Tongue tied first time now. He continues to drop down the weights but for good reason; needs to turn things around. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
HAZY GLEN made a successful handicap debut at Haydock on his most recent outing and the handicapper might have been kind to only put him up 5lb for that triumph. He takes a step up in trip, which could eke out the improvement required to go in again. Both Barrels justified favouritism over an extended 2m6f at Kelso last April and could get involved on his reappearance. Forged Well is another to watch out for.
HAZY GLEN should have more to come so a 5 lb rise for Haydock doesn't look enough to prevent him going in again assuming his stamina holds now stepping up significantly in trip. Last-time-out Kelso 2-3 Forged Well and Gaillimh A Stor may give him most to do.
The improving 6yo FORGED WELL has been in fine form at Kelso the last twice and this further step up in trip promises to suit.
Ths is the racecard key.
