Two good runs in maiden hurdles and now returns from a break and wind surgery.

Offered a lot more when fourth of 8 in 2m Doncaster maiden hurdle on his recent return from a long absence but the form is only modest. Tongue tied first time here. Tailed off in two bumpers and unsure what she achieved when fourth on hurdle debut.

14:10 Ascot (Class 3) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Jackstell has undergone wind surgery since a slightly disappointing effort at Lingfield and warrants respect on the form of his penultimate second behind the smart Horaces Pearl, but WICKED THOUGHTS shades the verdict. He is rated 5lb higher than Jamie Snowden's gelding and the form of his Hereford second was boosted when the third came out and won next time. Three-time Flat scorer Haaland could prove next best, with Sean Bowen a positive jockey booking.

If JACKSTELL has derived any benefit from a wind op when last seen he might prove a bit too strong for Wicked Thoughts in what may develop into a straight fight between the pair.

A disappointing turnout for a maiden that usually takes some winning. WICKED THOUGHTS is the one they all have to beat.

Respected back in a handicap. Fairly useful Flat racer who has done well over hurdles; set to play another big role.

Should be competitive now handicapping. Placed in three consecutive Grade 2 races since cheekpieces were added; likely contender.

Could do better now handicapping. Cosily won three-runner race this month and is now 2-4 over hurdles; enters calculations.
5th	6 5th (6) (9/2 -50%) Ocean Conquest	4.5 9/2(-50%)	(6) Ocean Conquest 9/2, Expensive Flat winner in Ireland and has improved with each run over hurdles, sticking to the task behind an easy winner at Newbury 4 weeks ago. Can go well on handicap debut if cutting out the mistakes. Improving with experience over hurdles; kept on for clear second at Newbury last month.
6th	5 6th (5) (12/1 +0%) Moutarde	12 12/1(+0%)	(5) Moutarde 12/1, Fair Flat winner in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell and started well over hurdles for this yard with victories at Kempton and Taunton. In the process of bouncing back when crashing out at the last in listed juvenile at Musselburgh before finding the Fred Winter too hot. Tongue tie goes on now. Well held in recent Fred Winter but has claims if judged on earlier Musselburgh Listed run.
7th	2 7th (2) (18/1 -50%) Maitre En Science	18 18/1(-50%)	(2) Maitre En Science 18/1, Useful juvenile over 17f in France, winning twice, but has made a distinctly underwhelming start on these shores, easy to back in tongue tie and producing a disappointing finishing effort at Kelso. Cheekpieces added for this handicap debut. Tricky to fancy. 2-3 in France last year but both British runs have been underwhelming; headgear applied.

Difficult to assess at present. Listed hurdle winner in France but well beaten in two Grade 2 races for Paul Nicholls.

14:45 Ascot (Class 2) 15f Race Class Flow

All eight of the declared runners look to have some sort of chance, so STAR OF GUITING receives what can only be a tentative vote. He has performed to a decent level on all four hurdle starts to date, winning two including cheekily at Market Rasen last time, and a mark of 112 certainly doesn't look beyond him. Stablemate Ocean Conquest also merits consideration following two solid runner-up efforts, while Galactic Charm is unlikely to be far away either.

OCEAN CONQUEST should have more to offer in handicaps if jumping better and gets the vote. Huntingdon-winner Benvoy and Torrent are a couple of the other likely players.

The suggestion is BENVOY (nap), who travelled strongly before asserting on his recent handicap debut and could still be well treated.

Needs to get back on track. Soundly beaten at Newbury recently but a big player if judged on this season's course form.
3	1 3rd (1) (4/1 +27%) Light N Strike	4 4/1(+27%)	(1) Light N Strike 4/1, A useful 2m chase winner in May 2023 but well held all 3 starts this season after 18 months off, pulled up in Newbury handicap chase last time. Has lots to prove. Back on his last winning mark and sure to be suited by today's return to good ground.
4	5 4th (5) (6/1 -71%) Hypotenus	6 6/1(-71%)	(5) Hypotenus 6/1, Yet to score over fences but he's made a positive start for his current yard, third of 5 in handicap chase at Hereford (16f, good) 22 days ago when going off too hard. Player off a 2 lb lower mark. Front-runner; below form last time but started off for this stable with two good efforts.
5th	3 5th (3) (9/2 -35%) Third Time Lucki	4.5 9/2(-35%)	(3) Third Time Lucki 9/2, A smart chaser at his best for Dan Skelton in 2022/23. Joined present connections for £190,000 and finished a good second at Cheltenham in November. Poor efforts since though but his mark has plummeted so he remains one to consider with his yard among the winners. Very well handicapped on old form but yet to click for new stable this season.

15:20 Ascot (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

KOTMASK looks the one to beat dropped in both grade and trip. His overall Ascot record is encouraging, winning once and placing twice from six visits, and this is the first time that he has dropped into class 3 company since February last year. Coastguard Station disappointed over hurdles at Doncaster last time but much better is expected on his return to chasing, while Hypotenus could go well off his light weight if allowed to dictate matters.

Not an easy race to asess and the right angle could be to side with HYPOTENUS who is the only one of the quintet to arrive in good form and could also get his own way in front here. Fergal O'Brien has his team in rude health so the handily-weighted Third Time Lucki could prove the main threat if back on song ahead of Coastguard Station and Kotmask.

The return to Ascot is a big plus for KOTMASK, who is now only 1lb higher than when winning here in the autumn.

2	1 2nd (1) (5/2 +9%) Briefly	2.5 5/2(+9%)	(1) Briefly 5/2, Had been proving steadily progressive over hurdles, posting her best effort to date when runner-up in a Wincanton handicap (24.7f) last month, for all she was flattered by her proximity to the winner. Let down badly by her jumping when last of 3 over the same C&D 6 days ago and needs to bounce back. Flopped at Wincanton on Monday but her clear second there last month makes her of interest.
3	4 3rd (4) (2/1 +89%) Rubies Or Gold	2 2/1(+89%)	(4) Rubies Or Gold 2/1, Looked the type to do better in handicaps over further but has disappointed, often labouring in his races. Needs to improve significantly on what he's shown but he finds himself off a lowly mark and is a worth a market check on his return now reunited with ex-stable jockey (sole ride on the card). Unplaced all eight hurdling starts but still worth keeping an eye on in the betting.
4	5 4th (5) (16/1 +0%) Kicks And Ale	16 16/1(+0%)	(5) Kicks And Ale 16/1, Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points but has shown little in his qualifying runs, for all he may have been campaigned with handicaps in mind. Bred to be suited by this step up in trip and may be capable of better now handicapping. Struggled in three maiden/novice hurdles (2m4f-2m5f); up in trip for handicap debut.
5th	2 5th (2) (17/2 -183%) Miss Ireland	8.5 17/2(-183%)	(2) Miss Ireland 17/2, Didn't look the most straightforward when winning a bumper winner on debut Fontwell. Progressed from hurdling debut, again appearing quirky when runner-up in a Lingfield maiden (19.5f) last month. Should be suited by this longer trip and there could be more to come on handicap debut. May not be straightforward; switches to a handicap after going very close in a maiden.

15:55 Ascot (Class 4) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

MISS IRELAND took a big step forward when only beaten a nose into second over an extended 2m3f at Lingfield last month. The step up in trip and switch to handicap company could see the daughter of Yeats go one better here. That said, Native Moon also hit the crossbar on his most recent outing and Jeremy Scott's gelding should not be underestimated. Briefly is the pick of the remainder.

NATIVE MOON finished ahead of two subsequent winners when runner-up at Exeter earlier this month, and he can go one better providing the blinkers have the same effect this time around. Despite looking quirky, the lightly-raced Miss Ireland improved from her hurdles debut when second at Lingfield last time out, and she's feared most while Rubies Or Gold is one to note in the betting on his return.

Another chance is given to BRIEFLY, who disappointed at Wincanton on Monday but ran well behind a progressive rival there last month.

Resumed following wind surgery with a good third here in November and whilst disappointing a month later, bounce back not ruled out back from a break. Didn't fire last time but still has good Ascot record; returns here fresh and on good mark.
3	2 3rd (2) (9/1 +44%) Authorized Art	9 9/1(+44%)	(2) Authorized Art 9/1, Smart chaser for Willie Mullins and positive start for new yard when third in 2m listed hurdle at Kempton in October. Let down by his jumping in Grand Sefton at Aintree next time and below best both starts over hurdles/fences since. Fitting of blinkers need to have positive effect now. Ran quite well (over hurdles) on stable debut but has looked out of sorts since.
4	5 4th (5) (10/1 +29%) Deise Aba	10 10/1(+29%)	(5) Deise Aba 10/1, Successful on 4 of 6 starts in points prior to just failing at Wincanton on debut for present yard in October. However, consistency not his strong suit and he was a well-beaten tenth of 11 in handicap chase at Kempton (3m) in December. Had a break ahead of this so he could revive. Went very close on stable debut in October but ended 2024 with two disappointing efforts.
5th	4 5th (4) (10/3 -90%) Credo	3.333333 10/3(-90%)	(4) Credo 10/3, Useful handicapper who made it 2 wins from 3 starts since the visor was applied in 4-runner veterans' handicap at Carlisle (24.5f) 7 days ago, leading last and keeping on run-in. Has to merit respect under a penalty in this form. In-form mare who is 2-3 since fitted with a visor; respected in current mood.
7	7 \|PU\| (7) (6/4 +40%) Northern Poet	1.5 6/4(+40%)	(7) Northern Poet 6/4, Recorded a hat-trick switched to fences in the second half of 2022/23 and he lines up here as good as ever, following up his Doncaster veterans' success in 7-runner Warwick handicap (29.2f) 3 weeks ago, finishing best. Player up 4 lb in another hat-trick bid. Back in good form this month, winning twice on good ground (3m/3m5f); one to consider.

16:30 Ascot (Class 2) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Credo has to be of interest having won two of her last three starts, although a 6lb penalty for the latest of those victories is a concern. Similar comments apply to the hat-trick seeking Northern Poet, but the vote goes to TWO FOR GOLD. The 12-year-old failed to fire in a valuable event here in December but is now 4lb lower than when an encouraging fourth in another competitive contest over C&D the time before. On that evidence, he could take some stopping if returning to form.

Likeable mare CREDO justified good support when making it 2 wins from her last 3 starts equipped with a visor/under Harry Cobden at Carlisle last week and she could be the answer under a penalty in this sort of form. Fellow in-form 10-y-o Northern Poet arrives in search of the hat-trick and is feared, with Two For Gold, who landed this race 2 years ago, another worth a look back from a break.

2023 winner TWO FOR GOLD returns here on a good mark and gets the nod in the hope he's back on song after his 99-day break.

Ran well in a competitive 2m5f handicap last time; forecast drier ground is favourable.
2	2 2nd (2) (2/1 +11%) Court Cian	2 2/1(+11%)	(2) Court Cian 2/1, Has shown improved form since joining Stuart Edmunds, recording his third win for current trainer when scoring under Murray Dodd at Market Rasen (23.1f, good) 26 days ago. Respected with the potential of more still to offer. Upwardly mobile gelding who won with a bit in hand at Market Rasen; that form is solid.
3	4 3rd (4) (11/2 +75%) Fontana Ellissi	5.5 11/2(+75%)	(4) Fontana Ellissi 11/2, Fair winning handicap hurdler who has been lightly raced in recent seasons, unfortunate when failing to complete at Kelso (20.9f, good to soft) on his latest outing (stumbled soon after 3 out). Others still preferred. Well treated and was running a good race when slipping up before two out at Kelso.

17:05 Ascot (Class 3) 21f Race Class Flow

COURT CIAN appeared to have plenty in hand when winning over 2m7f at Market Rasen earlier in the month and that was his third win from his last five starts. A 5lb rise may still underestimate this progressive seven-year-old and he merits plenty of respect. Loverdose is also going in the right direction and could give the selection most to think about. Court In The Act is best of the rest.

LOVERDOSE has been most progressive in handicap hurdles, winning 4 times from 6 starts and showing a good attitude in defeat when second at Newbury on his latest outing, so he is taken to continue his improvement and add to his tally. Court Cian has also been going the right way for his current yard and could be the biggest threat, ahead of Court In The Act.

The 9yo FONTANA ELLISSI is potentially the best handicapped of these and he was running a big race when slipping up at Kelso.
