6/4(+0%)
(2) Josh The Boss 6/4, Brother to a useful hurdler and showed fair form in bumpers, scoring at Kempton in March. Surpassed that form when routing the opposition on return/debut in this sphere at Warwick (21f, good), doing the job in the manner of one destined for better things. The one to beat.
Jumped well/scored impressively at Warwick five weeks ago; soft ground fine; solid claims.

(6) Magical King 4/1, Third on his sole start between the flags during the spring and promising start under Rules when going close in a maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter (2½m, good to soft), just undone by inexperience. Improvement on the cards and highly likely to go one better before long.
Went close in maiden at Uttoxeter on hurdling debut, staying on; open to improvement.

(1) Minella Double 10/3, Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points. Disappointing on Rules debut in a bumper, but proved a different proposition when making a winning start over hurdles at Hexham (2½m, heavy) last month. Open to improvement and merits respect, for all that this is a much tougher assignment.
Soft-ground point winner who rallied to make successful hurdle debut at Hexham; big player.

(5) Wexford Park 150/1, £36,000 buy after finishing in the money on both starts in Irish points earlier this year, but was only eighth of 10 starting out under Rules in a Bangor bumper (16.7f, soft). Pitched into a warm race for this hurdles debut and he's readily passed over.
Placed in points; tailed off in bumper after getting loose beforehand; not discounted.

(7) Pollyonesock 100/1, Stepped up on what she showed in bumpers when third of 10 on first completed start over hurdles at Stratford (16.3f, soft) in April. However, she didn't appear to get home upped to 21.2f at Ludlow since and she looks up against it in this company.
Just modest form in bumpers and maiden/novice hurdles; plenty of improvement needed.

(3) Flash In The Park 10/3, Half-brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Foggy's Wall. Fetched £350,000 after winning an Irish maiden point by 20 lengths last November and has joined a respected yard as he embarks on a career under Rules. Interesting to see what the market has to say.
Wide-margin Irish point winner subsequently sold for £350,000; interesting rules newcomer.

(4) Valens Bruyee 40/1, Didn't shape at all badly when fourth of 7 in what was probably a decent bumper at Ffos Las (15.8f, good to soft) last month. Likely to do better now moving up in trip for this hurdles bow, but there will be easier opportunities than this.
Clear signs of ability when close fourth in Ffos Las bumper last month, staying on.
LTO Selection:

12:25 Aintree Maiden Hurdle (Class 3) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

An impressive winner at Warwick on his return last month, JOSH THE BOSS should have plenty more to come and the talented four-year-old could be hard to stop once again. Narrowly denied on his Rules debut at Uttoxeter, Magical King looks to be a key player, along with Minella Double, who won well on his hurdles bow at Hexham a month ago.

It was hard not to be impressed by the way JOSH THE BOSS went about his business on debut over hurdles at Warwick and, with the promise of better to come from this 4-y-o, he is hard to oppose. Magical King and Minella Double are both promising, too, with the former marginally preferred for forecast purposes, while point-winner Flash In The Park is one to note in the betting.

Flash In The Park is an interesting newcomer to hurdling but the safer option is JOSH THE BOSS, a wide-margin winner at Warwick.

Giovinco

5/6(-66%)
(1) Giovinco 5/6, Winning pointer who made it 3-3 over hurdles when taking a 6-runner listed event at Perth (3m, good to soft) in April. Was upsides the eventual winner and going well when unseating 3 out on recent return/chase debut at Carlisle, and his mark for this handicap bow will probably be within reach.
Gives lots of weight but he's a smart prospect who may well atone for his Carlisle mishap.

Universal Folly

7/2(+36%)
(3) Universal Folly 7/2, Back-to-back winner of 3m handicaps at Uttoxeter and Hexham during the summer, and completed the hat-trick at the latter venue (2½m, heavy) back from a break last month. This is tougher, but 4 lb rise is fair enough and should make his presence felt.
Mopping up in small fields; latest was on soft and this return to 3m can help.

Tiger Orchid

7/1(+22%)
(2) Tiger Orchid 7/1, Dual hurdles winner last term and has already matched that tally over fences, bagging 23f Worcester handicaps on good to soft/heavy during the summer. Lost no caste in defeat when a clear second to the progressive Mole Court at Stratford and, though 5 lb higher now, he should make his presence felt.
Ease of his 2m7f win on soft ground on penultimate start appears to give him a good shout.

Lord Of Kerak

4
4/1(+27%)
(5) Lord Of Kerak 4/1, Fairly useful winner over hurdles and left chase bow well behind when runner-up at Wetherby (24.2f, soft) in March. Wasn't in the same form at Uttoxeter next time, but drop back to 2½m clearly counted against him that day and better expected back up in trip here.
Ran well in the spring last two starts; sole win in 2020; 3lb out of the handicap.
LTO Selection:

13:00 Aintree Handicap Chase (Class 3) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

GIOVINCO's chase debut may not have gone to plan at Carlisle, when unseating his rider three out, but he is the class act in this field and can take advantage. Lucinda Russell's charge always promised to go well over fences and he is preferred to Universal Folly, who arrives in top form having won his last three starts. Lord Of Kerak is the pick of the remainder.

Impressive in winning his three starts over hurdles last season, GIOVINCO was still going strongly when unseating Stephen Mulqueen at the third-last on his chase debut at Carlisle 16 days ago. He remains a bright prospect and will prove hard to beat. Moving back up in trip will help Lord of Kerak and he is next on the list ahead of the in-form Universal Folly.

There's no guarantee GIOVINCO would have won at Carlisle had he avoided that unseat but he'd made a fine impression until that point.

Won first two runs last term; tailed off in Feb; £1,500 buy out of Sandy Thomson's in May.
LTO Selection:

13:35 Aintree Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

A comfortable winner on his handicap debut at Ayr when last seen, IMPERIAL MERLIN could be just the type to excel during his second season over hurdles and a mark of 127 gives him a big chance. Irish raider Icare Allen is of interest stepping up markedly in trip, while Storm Nelson has an excellent record when fresh and cannot be ruled out for new connections. Last year's winner Remastered and Classic Chase scorer Iwilldoit are also high on the shortlist.

REMASTERED ended last season out of sorts but the fact he started the previous campaign in such good form provides hope he can bounce back with a bang and land this race for the second year running. Icare Allen will be a major threat if his stamina holds now tackling 3m for the first time, while Imperial Merlin is a lightly-raced improver who likely has even more to come this season.

The greatest potential comes with IMPERIAL MERLIN (nap), who ended last season on a seriously positive note on his first attempt at 3m.

LTO Selection:

14:10 Aintree Handicap Chase (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

MASTER CHEWY emerged as a ready winner of a novices' handicap chase over this course and distance 13 days ago and it is entirely possible that a 10lb higher mark underestimates his scope for improvement over fences. Nigel Twiston-Davies' gelding certainly created a favourable impression with his jumping that day and is hard to ignore despite the relatively quick turnaround. Djelo boasts some useful form over hurdles and is respected on his chasing debut. Real Stone is also noteworthy on his first start after wind surgery.

MASTER CHEWY was mightily impressive as he came clear on his first run over fences here a fortnight ago and can go in again if this doesn't come too soon. Lively Citizen looks another chaser to follow after his likeable victory at Perth in May. Netywell and Djelo are also considered.

Chasing debutant Djelo is tempting but MASTER CHEWY was so impressive here two weeks ago that he's taken to follow up.

LTO Selection:

14:45 Aintree Handicap Chase (Class 2) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Beaten just a nose in this race last year, Gesskille has a live chance of going one place better off just a 5lb higher mark. Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero picked up a Listed race in France with the gelding on his latest start and he can go well once again. However, FANTASTIC LADY was second in the Topham over C&D in April and gets the vote off just 4lb higher. Cooper's Cross and Born By The Sea complete the shortlist.

GESSKILLE came close twice over these fences last season and returned to winning ways at Auteuil last time. Proven in testing conditions, he makes plenty of appeal. Coopers Cross improved throughout last season and was bang in contention when coming to grief here in April. He is feared most, whilst Fantastic Lady and Percussion also bring valuable course form to the table and are much respected too.

Half Shot is second on the list but is up against a strong group of those who have already run well here. GESSKILLE gets the vote.

Lost his way over fences last season but interesting on old form and likes Aintree.
LTO Selection:

15:20 Aintree Conditions Hurdle (Class 2) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

The lightly-raced WEST BALBOA arrives here seeking a hat-trick following two wins earlier this year, with the most recent of those victories coming over 3m at this venue in April. Brewin'upastorm unseated his rider in this race last year but is feared most based on his victory in the previous renewal in 2021, while Millers Bank should not be completely discounted.

Things didn't go to plan for MILLERS BANK over fences last term, but he boasts a solid strike rate in this sphere and was placed in a Grade 1 at this course on his latest hurdles start at the 2021 Grand National meeting. The 9-y-o gets the nod ahead of West Balboa, who ended last season on a high here and will be a big threat if going to post (also engaged at Wincanton). Brewin'upastorm landed this race two years ago and has to be feared, for all that he has a little bit to find on these terms.

A fascinating contest can go to WEST BALBOA who is improving fast and can make the most of the weight she receives from the geldings.

LTO Selection:

15:50 Aintree NH Flat Race (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A tricky puzzle to solve with all nine of these having their first taste of competitive racecourse action, but CLAP OF THUNDER stands out as the most intriguing runner. Nigel Twiston-Davies has a useful record in bumpers and this son of Mount Nelson is related to plenty of winners and makes most appeal. I Wish You and Rocheval are others to consider.

Without the benefit of market clues, it could pay to side with CLAP OF THUNDER, who is from a good family and represents an in-form yard that had an impressive winner in this sphere recently. Simba's Roar and I Wish You are also of interest, although a case can be made for the majority on paper.

All nine are newcomers. The vote goes to the well-bred CLAP OF THUNDER whose yard has a very solid record in bumpers.
